Portugaljoins the amber list, which includes other key british Holiday Destinations such france, italy, spain, and greece, which the government says british residents should not travel to. The portuguese government said it was struggling to see the logic in the decision, while here the move has sparked Anger And Concern in the Travel Industry, and introduced uncertainty for those whove booked to go abroad. The portuguese Foreign Ministry tweeted after the announcement that it couldnt see the logic in the decision to put portugal on the amber list. Our reporter Alison Roberts is in Cascais. So bewilderment there what is the situation with covid cases there . Well, portugal still does have one of the lowest rates in the european union. They have been taking up in the last few days. Nevertheless, there is half a dozen municipalities on the watchlist that the government has laid out, one of them is lisbon, which is obviously a very big city. And there are concerns about cases coming up in the centre of lisbon. Our correspondent Alison Roberts, reporting there from Cascais in portugal. Our Health Editor Hugh pym is here. An Armed Policeman Who shot the Fishmongers Hall Attacker has told an inquest he thought they were all going to die, after spotting what he believed to be a Suicide Belt attached to Usman Khans waist. The officer, who cant be named to protect his identity, told the jury he came up close to khan, as bystanders pinned him to the ground on London Bridge. Our home Affairs Correspondent Daniel Sandford reports. Having killed two people in fishmongers hall, Usman Khan was pursued out under London Bridge by three men wielding a Fire Extinguisher and a narwhal tusk. They successfully brought him to the ground. At this point, three Firearms Officers arrived from city of london police. They dived in to try to take control. One of the officers, known as ws5 to conceal his identity, then saw what looked like a bomb around the suspect s waste. Hes got a bomb. If youd seen films, youd have believed it was a viable device. Various packages of cigarette packet size, tape, wires coming out, ws5 told the inquestjury. When i was in his face, in his personal space, i remember him shouting Allahu Akbar at me. At that point i thought, thats it, im not going home to see my family or my friends either. A second officer who was right by Khans Head heard him saying, ive got a bomb. I was slightly stunned. I was thinking, you want to kill yourself and you want me to do it, yx99 recalled. But worrying about the device around khans waste, he said, i drew my firearm up into the aiming position, id already made the decision several seconds prior that i was going to shoot him. The first second the shot became available, i took it. He said he fired, to save myself and to try and save the people around me. I thought he was going to detonate it. I thought we were going to die from that close. The officers then retreated. A Stand Off followed with the Armed Police watching from a safer distance from behind cover, and khan lying here on the bridge. A Police Helicopter was hovering overhead, beaming live pictures back to the control room. And then, after eight minutes, to the officers surprise, khan sat up. At that point, six officers started shooting, firing a total of 18 bullets. Khan was declared dead soon afterwards. The belt he was wearing turned out to be fake. Health ministers from the G7 Group of wealthy nations met today in oxford to discuss sharing vaccines with poorer countries. Theyve also been considering ways of combatting future health threats. Next week, the uk will host the G7 Summit which is likely to be dominated by discussions about the Coronavirus Pandemic and plans for recovery. Our global Health Correspondent Tulip mazumdar reports. Covid 19 has ravaged every corner of the globe. But as rich countries vaccinate millions of people every day to protect them against the deadly virus, some poorer nations are yet to vaccinate a single person. Ever since india stopped exporting covid vaccines because of the crisis there, countries in africa have been counting down their last doses. Here in ghana, there has been a very successful Roll Out of the first dose of vaccines for the most at risk groups. Their second doses are now due, but officials are unclear and when they will arrive. It is deeply unfair. Of the almost Two Billion doses that have been administered globally, Sub Saharan Africa have received about 1 of all of these vaccines. We have ten countries that have already completely run out of doses. We have countries like morocco, countries like rwanda, lesotho, eswatini, that have used up all of their doses. But also we have a number of countries that will use up all of their vaccine in the next couple of weeks. Those are countries like uganda, you have countries like kenya, seychelles, egypt. Meanwhile, g7 countries, the uk, us and canada, have vaccinated more than half of their populations. Germany, italy and france, well over a third. Japans uptake has been much slower, but not because theyre short on supplies. The Health Ministers of those countries have been meeting in oxford at the university which created the worlds most widely used covid vaccine. Now the Co Creator of the Oxford Astrazeneca Jab is calling on World Leaders to share that vaccine more fairly. Globally, we need to be able to find the funds and the means to vaccinate widely across the world. If we dont, what will happen is more mutations arising in the virus, and we will have a harder and harder task to fight the virus as it continues to mutate. The un Agency Unicef wants g7 countries, together with the eu, to donate 20 of the doses injune, july and august. For the uk that would mean sharing just over Four Million doses this month and Five Million injuly. The agency says, crucially, that countries can do all this without disrupting their own domestic Roll Outs. The Uk Vaccination programme has very much been based on delivering vaccine as soon as it is delivered to us. So we dont have any excess doses at the moment. But, absolutely, we want to lean into this global effort, when there is spare capacity. So, as rich countries continue vaccinating younger people, who are least at risk of dying from covid, some of the worlds most at risk, including Health Care workers in poorer nations, remain last in line. Tulip mazumdar, Bbc News. And Buckingham Palace has announced that the queen will meet President Biden and the first Ladyjill Biden at Windsor Castle next weekend, as part of the president s visit to the uk, for that G7 Summit. Time for a look at the weather heres ben rich. Every evening so far this Week Weve talked about it being the warmest day of the year so far. Monday, first, which was eclipsed by tuesday, then wednesday. But today we have broken that pattern. Temperatures fell a little short, 25 the highest Temperature Weve seen today, and it looks a Bit Cooler over the next few days. Even a bit of rain for some today, that was the Scene Injersey earlier. Some of the rain has pushed across the channel, patchy, Showery Rain Drifting Across Central Southern England into the South East and maybe East Anglia through the night. Also showers into Northern Ireland. In between, clear skies, and it will get quite chilly in a few places, some spots in the countryside, wales for example, could get down to round about four or 5 degrees. But mild and muddy across eastern england. Tomorrow, a lot of dry weather and sunshine, but you can see cloud bringing Showery Rain Across Parts of Northern Ireland at times. And also some rain down to the South East. There is still some uncertainty about just how far west this wet weather will get, we may see patchy rain into the london area, certainly some likely across East Anglia. For much of the rest of england and wales, apart from the Odd Shower we will see sunshine. These temperatures about where they should be for this time of year. Cloud will bring some showers, particularly into western counties of Northern Ireland. The Odd Shower across scotland but quite a lot of sunshine and very pleasant at 19 degrees in aberdeen. The weekend, High Pressure is close by so a lot of dry weather, but you can see this front pushing in from the west. This will provide some outbreaks of rain, but without running into the High Pressure it will be quite a weak affair, so Showery Rain Across Parts of Northern Ireland, western scotland, could be the Odd Sharp Show if eastern scotland, much of england and wales it looks likely dry with sunshine. 18 to maybe 23 degrees. Just not quite as warm as it has been. The sunday, the remnants of the front will sit across our shores, but you cant make them out on the chart, just a bit more cloud, may be the Odd Shower, and temperatures of 18 to 23.
