But will they go ahead, and if they do will there be any crowds to Watch . Hello and welcome to Bbc News. Portugal, including madeira and the azores, is to be removed from the uks travel Green Lists. That means that from next tuesday while it will still be legal to visit portugal, it will be officially advised against, and like other popular Holiday Destinations on the Amber List including spain, france and greece those returning from portugal will have to isolate for ten days and take two private coronavirus tests. The portugal decision has been taken by all four nations of the uk together. When it comes to englands Green List, no new countries have been added to the list of destinations which People can travel to without quarantine. And seven countries, including costa rica, egypt, and sri lanka, will be added to the Red List, meaning travellers must pay £1,750 to quarantine in a government approved hotel on their return. This is what grant shapps, the transport secretary, had to say in the last hour. I want to be straight with People. It is actually a difficult decision to make. In The End, we have seen two things, really, which have caused concern. One is the Positivity Rate has nearly doubled since the last review in portugal. The other as there is a sort of mutation of the so called indian variant, which has been detected. And we just do not know the potential for that to be a vaccine defeating mutation and simply do not want to take the risk as we come up to the 21st Ofjune and the review of the fourth stage of the unlock. The support for the Travel Industry, who goodness knows have suffered throughout this crisis, is ongoing. We have got £7 billion worth of support, which are still being paid out right now, including through the furlough scheme. What i want to do with todays difficult, but i hope decisive, action, is make sure that we protected the future by not restarting problems which may or may not be there at home. We will be able to get international travel Down The Line open quite quickly. It is a safety first approach, which i see that gatwick and others have said is an understandable approach given where we are in the fourth stage of the unlock. The Travel Industry, the Aviation Sector has struggled enormously. That is why there is the support. That support is ongoing. Including the furlough scheme. We havejust done more for Ground Handlers and for the airports themselves by way of rebates. We will always look to support them. The best thing we can do is get back to being able to travel internationally. We are working, for example, with g7 partners, the oecd, other international bodies to get this going again. The first thing to do is to protect the Unlock Mystically and not put that in danger, which potentially a vaccine defeating mutation could do. It is a safety first measure. That defeating mutation could do. It is a safety first measure. Safety first measure. That is the Transort Safety first measure. That is the transport secretary. In the last few minutes weve had some reaction from portugal. Portugals Foreign Minister says it cannot understand the logic behind the Uk Decision to remove portugal from the Green List. Disappointment they are in portugal. We can speak now to our Business Correspondent Vishala sri pathma. Disappointment and anger in Portugal And Disappointment in the Travel Industry here. It is and disappointment in the Travel Industry here and disappointment in the Travel Industry here. It is hugely crushing for them. Industry here. It is hugely crushing for them they industry here. It is hugely crushing for them. They were industry here. It is hugely crushing for them. They were expecting industry here. It is hugely crushing| for them. They were expecting this to be the restart of the Travel Industry for the summer. This is now two summers of business relate down the drain for them. Lots of countries were hoping to get on that Green List. We heard rumours earlier on in the day that some islands might have been able to get themselves on that list. But no countries were added on. That is really crushing, notjust for other countries that have found themselves moving along that amber and Red List, but also ones that did not manage to make it onto the Green List. For portugal, as we havejust heard, they are very disappointed. Portuguese, Spanish Companies are very reliant on the uk tourist. We provide a lot of tourism to those countries and those economies are quite reliant on our money being spent in those countries. It is a huge blow to that industry. Mat spent in those countries. It is a huge blow to that industry. Not only uncertainty now huge blow to that industry. Not only uncertainty now but huge blow to that industry. Not only uncertainty now but Uncertainty Uncertainty now but uncertainty about bookings for the summer, for the Peak Summer months, july and august, the school holidays. People are just not sure what they can do. Actually, this summer, we are well under way now. We are injune. To prepare for, say, a booking season, it is quite short notice for People to put on services, to hire staff. So it is quite short notice anyway. The fact that it does not look like it is going to be likely in the next few months now, it is quite a blow for them as well. For the individuals as well, lots of People on Social Media talking about flying out to portugal today, but also looking to get back onto a Return Flight because they are not able to quarantine. Not everybody has got believe. , ~ ,. ,. , believe. Thank you very much. Not Eve Bod believe. Thank you very much. Not everybody has believe. Thank you very much. Not everybody has got believe. Thank you very much. Not everybody has got the believe. Thank you very much. Not everybody has got the leave. Antigua and barbuda remain on the uks Amber List. Im joined now by charles fernandez, Antigua And Barbudas minister of tourism and investment. Thank you so much for being with us. What does it mean to you . There was some speculation that antigua could be moved to the Green List here, which would mean more british People could go there more easily. Are you disappointed you are still on the Amber List . We disappointed you are still on the Amber List . Disappointed you are still on the Amber List . ~. , Amber List . We are disappointed. But aaain we Amber List . We are disappointed. But again we understand Amber List . We are disappointed. But again we understand the Amber List . We are disappointed. But again we understand the concern Amber List . We are disappointed. But again we understand the concern for l again we understand the concern for lives and safety. We ourselves take that as a priority. Yes, livelihoods are important, but we can understand the measures. We are disappointed, but we cannot fault anybody for, any country for that matter, for wanting to keep their People safe. So that is something that we understand. We are anticipating that we will get onto the Green List, our numbers have been very, very low. We think we have come over it. We have done very well with our vaccinations. We believe that the vaccinations are ongoing. The risk has been greatly reduced. We are looking forward to going onto the Green List and we are also looking forward to more travel coming to Antigua And Barbuda, and by extension the caribbean. 50 coming to Antigua And Barbuda, and by extension the caribbean. By extension the caribbean. So you would say it by extension the caribbean. So you would say it is by extension the caribbean. So you would say it is a by extension the caribbean. So you would say it is a safe by extension the caribbean. So you would say it is a safe place by extension the caribbean. So you would say it is a safe place to by extension the caribbean. So you would say it is a safe place to go i would say it is a safe place to go in terms of coronavirus . It is very safe at the in terms of coronavirus . It is very safe at the present in terms of coronavirus . It is very safe at the present moment. In terms of coronavirus . It is very safe at the present moment. I in terms of coronavirus . It is very l safe at the present moment. I think we have, as of yesterday, there were two positive cases. There are six People in isolation. As i said, our Vaccine Roll Out has gone very, very well. We are up to those that are 18 and above with the Astrazeneca Vaccine. We have reached almost 40 of them. We are hoping that with the incentives that the government has put into place, that will be upwards of 5060 put into place, that will be upwards of 50 60 by The End ofjune, at least with the first jab. Hour least with the first ab. How damaging h least with the first ab. How damaging is h least with the first ab. How damaging is all least with the first ab. How damaging is all of h least with the first jab. How damaging is all of this least with the first jab. How damaging is all of this to i least with the first jab. How damaging is all of this to your Tourism Industry and how reliant are you on tourists, in particularfrom the uk . You on tourists, in particular from the uk . , you on tourists, in particular from the uk . ~ , g, you on tourists, in particular from the uk . ,. , ~ the uk . Are very reliant, i think the uk . Are very reliant, i think the united the uk . Are very reliant, i think the united kingdom the uk . Are very reliant, i think the united kingdom accounts i the uk . Are very reliant, i think| the united kingdom accounts for between 25 30 of our tourist arrivals. So we are reliant, of course. The second most important market. We are looking forward to a very good Summer And Winter coming out of the uk from discussions we have had. Theres a lot of interest to increase flights to Antigua And Barbuda coming out of the uk. We are looking forward to some very positive things from that market. What about People from other countries . For example, the united states . Are you currently having tourists from there . States . Are you currently having tourists from there . Yes, of course we are. Tourists from there . Yes, of course we are the tourists from there . Yes, of course we are the 86 tourists from there . Yes, of course we are. The 86 remains tourists from there . Yes, of course we are. The 86 remains our tourists from there . Yes, of course | we are. The 86 remains our Number One market. We have seen a very robust response from the united states. Antigua and barbuda was the first in the region to reopen to tourism arrivals. We did it in, i think, easy to see a very safe manner. We did not have any, at this moment, any evidence of spread from tourists to any of the persons within the industry. We have done a very, very robust set of protocols and we continue to monitor them and upgrade them. We are very, very confident. As i said, the Vaccine Roll Out, both in our markets and Antigua And Barbuda, the risk has been greatly reduced. We are fairly confident, very confident actually, that we will be ready to go within another couple of months in a very big way. Another couple of months in a very bi wa. A, another couple of months in a very bi wa. G, g, another couple of months in a very biiwa. , g, g, big way. Charles fernandes, good to talk to you big way. Charles fernandes, good to talk to you. Lets hope you really i talk to you. Lets hope you really do get your Tourism Industry back up and running very quickly. Thank you. Thank you very much. Lets just bring you some years we are hearing from public Health England in the last couple of minutes about the variant that originated in india. It has been named by the World Health Organization as the Delta Variant. Public Health England are now saying thatis public Health England are now saying that is the dominant strain, officially now, in the uk. The number of cases confirmed by Lab Analysis rose by 79 in the last week, and scientists believe that variant, that Delta Variant, as we should now call it, has overtaken the kent variant, which has also been renamed, rather confusingly, as the alpha variant. Public Health England also say there might be a higher risk of hospitalisation that is linked to that variant that originated in india that we should now call the Delta Variant. That Delta Variant now the dominant strain of coronavirus in the uk. The High Court has ruled that the Home Office broke the law by Housing Cross Channel migrants in a run down barracks in folkestone, where around 200 men contracted covid while sleeping in dormitories. Six Asylum Seekers brought the challenge, saying the conditions were appalling and squalid, and the Home Office fell short of its duty of care towards them. Their victory paves the way for a damages claim against the Home Secretary, Priti Patel. Dominic casciani has more. A former Army Base just a mile from the english channel, a temporary home for Asylum Seekers arriving in dinghies and lorries, this is napier barracks. For months, campaigners have called for its closure. A fire ripped through part of the complex in january and there have been repeated protests by the hundreds of men housed here. Now, in a criticaljudgement, the High Court has ruled that the Home Office has breached its own minimum standards of care. Some 200 men contracted covid in the first months of this year. Public Health England had warned the Home Office this could happen. Today, Mrjustice Linden ruled that it was inevitable there would be a major outbreak of covid 19. He said that led to actual bodily harm of the residents and as a result the Mental Health of the claimants deteriorated. Today, men who arrived from The Middle East were telling us napier is inhumane. We do not have hot water, internet, electricity. We have just one shower for 100 persons and live in this military base, 100 People. 400 400 People. You understand . If you need food, bad food. And same food, notjust bad. Everything, my friends, are bad here. While the Home Office says it is disappointed with todays judgment, it has not said whether it will appeal. It has no plans to close napier in the short term because it is going to use it to hold migrants crossing the channel in dinghies during the summer months. Anybody who is familiar with the conditions at the barracks will know that Human Beings should not be kept in conditions like that, much less People who are recovering from the trauma of Conflict Or Persecution and even more so in a pandemic. Officials insist that conditions in the barracks have massively improved but charities say todays ruling means Home Secretary Priti Patel cannot be trusted with the Health And Safety of the migrants. The Director General of the bbc has made a personal apology to the Whistle Blower who raised concerns about Martin Bashir s interview with Princess Diana. Matthias wiessler, a Graphic Designer, alerted his bosses to the fake documents used by Martin Bashir. The response from the bbc at the time was to stop giving him any work. Our Media Correspondent David sillito has been speaking to Matt Wiessler and hejoins me now. This is quite an extraordinary meeting between him and the Director General today. Do we know what happened . He directorgeneraltoday. Do we know what happened . What happened . He said after 25 ears are what happened . He said after 25 years are mens what happened . He said after 25 years are mens had what happened . He said after 25 years are mens had been what happened . He said after 25 years are mens had been made. J what happened . He said after 25 i years are mens had been made. The story is an extraordinary one because there he is, a freelance Graphic Designer back in 1995, he is asked by Martin Bashir to drop two documents very quickly, overnight, he did not ask a great number of questions, and does not think anything more of it. Until he sees the interview with Princess Diana and he begins to realise that something was amiss. He raises concerns with his policies, there is an enquiry, and at The End of that enquiry, Martin Bashir is declared to be an honourable man. And Mr Wiessler never worked for the bbc again. It takes 25 years for him to realise he was essentially blackballed and that he was absolutely right to raise those concerns. He had an apology in writing from the bbc, but today he came out of the bbc explaining to me white Todays Meeting was so important to him. Yes, very much so. Because i still felt that to this day, the bbc were just saying things to sort of appease me, but i have come away from it feeling, no, they really, really support me and they feel really genuinely that they sort of want to. Not help me, but, you know, clear up the past and start again in a sort of friendly relationship. So he has had a personal apology. There is also, we think, the small matter of compensation. He there is also, we think, the small matter of compensation. There is also, we think, the small matter of compensation. He was not willini to matter of compensation. He was not willing to talk matter of compensation. He was not willing to talk about matter of compensation. He was not willing to talk about it matter of compensation. He was not willing to talk about it publicly, i willing to talk about it publicly, but there certainly have been conversations in private about that. Almost certainly it will not be revealed at The End what that actually is. Certainly a much happier matthias wiessler, who felt as though after all these years he knew The Truth about what happened to him and he said he got unreserved and multiple apologies for what had happened to him. But and multiple apologies for what had happened to him. Happened to him. But that is not iuite the happened to him. But that is not quite The End happened to him. But that is not quite The End of happened to him. But that is not quite The End of the happened to him. But that is not quite The End of the story happened to him. But that is not. Quite The End of the story because there is one more enquiry that is due to report. There is one more enquiry that is due to report due to report. Martin bashir was rehired by due to report. Martin bashir was rehired by the due to report. Martin bashir was rehired by the bbc due to report. Martin bashir was rehired by the bbc in due to report. Martin bashir was rehired by the bbc in 2016. Due to report. Martin Bashir Wasl rehired by the bbc in 2016. There were a few People at the time who raised a few eyebrows given the fact that he had parted company for an american broadcaster, two of them in recent years. So there is a second internal enquiry under way at the moment asking why and what did People know about Martin Bashir when he was rehired. We are expecting that will probably report sometime next week. G, g, next week. David, thank you very much. The headlines on Bbc News a bitter blow for Uk Holidaymakers as quarantine free travel to and from Portugal Ends on tuesday morning. A Firearms Officer has told an inquestjury he feared he would die as he tackled the Fishmongers Hall Killer Usman Khan. The officer, identified only as ws5, said when he saw khans fake Suicide Belt, he thought he wouldnt go home that night. Daniel sandford is at the inquest. In the inquest into the death of Usman Khan at Fishmongers Hall, the attacker who had just killed two People. We have today heard from the three Firearms Officers who were first on the scene. They arrived in a Police Car from very, first on the scene. They arrived in a Police Carfrom very, very first on the scene. They arrived in a Police Car from very, very close by and got to London Bridge while a group of men were still holding Usman Khan to the ground, trying to get the knives off of him. First we heard from an officer known as Ws Five, we are not giving his real name to preserve his identity, on the order of the corner. He describes going into the melee of People on the bridge and then suddenly, in a bit of trying to get People off Usman Khan, realising that he had what he said looked like a viable Improvised Explosive Device around his belt. Ws five told the jury, if i am honest, i did not think i was going home. He describes trying to pull off the last member of the public that was tackling Mr Khan before his colleagues then took over. We then heard from Y X 16 who was in the same car. When he arrived, he also got involved in the fight with Usman Khan and decided that he needed to be incapacitated. He did not see this fake Suicide Belt that Usman Khan was wearing. And so when the last person was pulled off Usman Khan, Hejust Opens Fire with his taser in an attempt to incapacitate him so that they could get a better control of the situation was not in fact, on the whole course of the afternoons events, the officer Y X 16 never opened fire. Thirdly, we heard from the officer whY X 19. Opened fire. Thirdly, we heard from the officer whY X19. He described going into the fight and Usman Khan looking up at him and saying i have got a bomb. At which point he decides that he will have to shoot him. He pulls away and waits for the last person to be pulled off Usman Khan, and then he opens fire two times. About eight minutes later, Usman Khan sits up, and in the first man we heard from Ws Five also opens fire ten times. More now on our top story. Thats despite a surge in coronavirus cases injapan and Opinion Polls which suggest that as many as 80 of japanese People would like to see the games cancelled. Speaking exclusively to the bbc, the president Of Tokyo 2020 says if theres an outbreak, the games will continue, but without spectators. Rupert wingfield hayes reports from tokyo. The olympics is fond of a dramatic unveiling and with 50 days to go the volume is turned up to 11 as tokyo unveiled the Medal Podium for the delayed 2020 olympic and paralympic games. Speaking to the bbc, the president of the tokyo games made it clear the feverish speculation that the Covid Pandemic could still stop the games is just that, speculation. Translation it is my conviction that when People understand i there are no firmer measures we could be taking to prevent the spread of coronavirus, attitudes will change to say it is ok to have the games. I believe that the possibility of this game is happening is 100 . Mrs hashimotos assertion that attitudes to the games can still change looks wildly optimistic. Yesterday it was revealed that 10,000 olympic volunteers had resigned, many out of fear that the olympics could become a covid Super Spreader event. A solid 70 of the japanese public say they want the games stopped. In western japan, doctors and nurses are still struggling to deal with the huge Fourth Wave of covid infections that has overwhelmed hospitals and has killed more than 2000 People. Doctors there told us the measures to protect the olympics are not going to be enough. Translation i know they are hoping to create an Immunity Bubble by vaccinating those involved in the olympics, but that only protects those involved. The majority of japanese are not vaccinated. The Infection Rate has not come down, nor has the number of those who are critically ill from covid. Public opposition to the games looks very unlikely to change in the six weeks left until the opening ceremony. Nor does the determination of the International Olympic Committee and the japanese government to go ahead. Rupert wingfield hayes, Bbc News, tokyo. It is not the athletes that get to make the decision whether the olympics is going ahead or not. You can hear the noise, everyone says the crowd gives you that little extra 1 , that marginal gain, because they do lift you, they do encourage you, you do hear that war, that buzz, whatever you want to describe it as. At The End of the day, i think there used to that now. Competitions have been happening with no spectators. They have retrained themselves out of that spectators now. They know the worlds Watching on tv and for them it is still that opportunity to get that olympic final, that olympic medal. Now its time for a look at the weather with Ben Rich. Hello. After the high temperatures of the last few days, today is a little Bit Cooler for many of us. We stick with that slightly cooler feel for the next few days, though it will be mostly dry with some spells of sunshine. The highest temperatures this afternoon across eastern england, 25 26, and also north east scotland not doing too badly. These are some of the sunniest spots as well. Through this evening and tonight, we could see Showery Rain at times affecting east england, and the Odd Shower into western counties of Northern Ireland. Clear spells in between, a pretty mild and Muggy Night across eastern parts, where tomorrow we could continue to see some bursts of Showery Rain from time to time. Thicker cloud, bringing a bit of patchy rain into western counties of Northern Ireland. In between, good spells of sunshine, and, while it is a little cooler than it has been, 18 21, it will feel very pleasant in the sunshine. More sunny spells through the weekend, a few showers here and there, and temperatures still high teens or low 20s. Hello, this is Bbc News. Now on the News Channel its time for your questions answered. Were answering your questions on the what restrictions mean, and consumer rights. Youve been sending in your questions, so to answer them, we can now speak to lisa minot, the Travel Editor at the sun. About the various Travel Restrictions announced today, including portugal no longer being on the Green List. Lets start off. Straightaway, thank you very much for being with us. If portugal is moved to the Amber List, what are the rules for travel there and back to the uk . ~. The rules for travel there and back to the uk . The rules for travel there and back to the uk . A i, i, i, i, to the uk . What we have found today is that the government to the uk . What we have found today is that the government have to the uk . What we have found today is that the government have decided l is that the government have decided to put portugal and madeira and the azores onto the Amber List. That will mean from tuesday of next week, anyone coming back into the uk from those destinations will have to self isolate for ten days, and they will have to take two tests, coronavirus test, Pcr Tests, on days, as a prerequisite to coming back into the country. {line days, as a prerequisite to coming back into the country. One Viewer Sa S. I am due to travel out to portugal in august this year, although we are extremely concerned that this would not be the right approach. Should i continue to plan the trip, or is it likely that based on Government Guidelinesjet2 will cancel the holiday first . Jet2 were among the first to say when the original Green List was announced that they couldnt work with it. Just too many of the countries that they would normally take passengers to would be on the Amber List, and they cancelled all holidays to our Bucket List countries, right up to the 24th of june. Now we are faced with the impossible decision that one place where they could take them, portugal, is now the embolus, as well. It is too soon to say whether or not a holiday that is meant to be happening in august. Wee going ahead, and things are moving so quickly. I think the government are basically want to get thatjune 21 date and social distancing ending, get that out of the way first before People travel abroad in great numbers. What was a shock was how many countries have been removed from the Green List, and extra countries added to the Red List. Why do People need to pay for Pcr Tests when going to europe when they have already received both vaccinations . Thats a very good question, and it depends on whether you are talking about whether you are going into a country, and certain countries still require People have been vaccinated to have a Pcr Test, but today the Canary Islands announced it would no longer be asking for someone coming into the Canary Islands to take a Pcr Test if they are double vaccinated. However, on the way back into the uk, i think its part of the uk cosmic aim to make sure theyre on top of all these variants of concern, so they are telling People they still do need to take a test on day two from the greenest country, or two and eight from an amber laced country, to check out the variants are, and what is being brought in from places abroad. Lets talk more about the Red List countries. I am due to fly on holiday to a country on the Red List at The End ofjune. Will my flights be cancelled . Am i entitled to a refund as its against Government Advice . This is a really problematic area, because although there are these Red List countries, some flights are still going in and out. We are seeing at the moment we have the direct flights the romance that will now be going out, arriving at terminal two of heathrow, and there are still flights on People needing to travel. It depends whether or not you havejust to travel. It depends whether or not you have just booked a flight so you have booked a package holiday. If you have booked a package holiday, that will be cancelled, and obviously you would be able to get your Money Back, but if you just booked flights, it will be very much down to whether the airline is going to cancel those flights, or it will be with one of the few remaining flights that will actually still be running between the two countries, and that is the point where you have to then start to talk to your airline and say to them, right, i dont want to travel, i cant travel, can i have my Money Back . If not, can i transfer this to a different date and found a different date . ,. ,. ,. ,. , why are we letting People travel here from Red Zones . At the moment, its because there are lots of People from All Over The World who are Uk Citizens who should be allowed to come back into the country. They are coming back into the country for a Red List country, they still have to site a self isolate in a hotel, but there are People who do still need to travel for various reasons, be at work, education, Orto Attend Travel for various reasons, be at work, education, or to attend the funerals of friends or family, and thatis funerals of friends or family, and that is why there is still those Borders still open, and it may seem a bit of an anachronism to why that is the case, but we cannot completely close our Borders, or thatis completely close our Borders, or that is what i have government have decided not to do. There are still some flights, for People'>Uk People to come back. Why are some countries still on Red List despite the fact that the amount of cases in such country are relatively low . I think thats mainly because the Government Isntjust looking at the number of cases, they are looking at whether or not the countries involved at the correct facilities for the Genomic Testing and sequencing, sorry, genomic sequencing, sorry, genomic sequencing, to identify the different variants of concern. It could be that, it could be the fact that they have enough of their population vaccinated. The government are looking at several different factors, before they are making these decisions, but even then, the Travel Industry has reacted with just complete bafflement today, because they are saying they can see countries that do qualify under all the various different things the government are saying they are looking at, and yet they are still not actually on the Green List. They are still not actually on the Green List im a british citizen and would like to be able to visit family and friends in the usa. Due to restrictions im not able to. When will this be changed . I think that something that stephanie being discussed between the us in the uk at the moment. I think theres obviously doing something that might change once we have President Biden in the uk for the G7 Summit, but we are preparing at the moment for the resumption of that transatlantic route, but obviously it has to be bilateral, it cantjust be a saying that we would like, you know, brits can go there, the us has to allow us in as well, and what were seeing at the moment with australia and New Zealand, although they are on our list, they are not allowing anyone to come in except under very exceptional circumstances, only their own citizens. We are hoping that byjuly the force there is this idea that around a Independence Day there will be recognition of the Border is opening in People being allowed to travel again, opening in People being allowed to travelagain, but opening in People being allowed to travel again, but it depends on the variance and how governments feel about the variance moving in their populations. About the variance moving in their populations about the variance moving in their oulations. ,. , populations. Thank you so much for answerini populations. Thank you so much for answering some of our viewers i answering some of our viewers questions. A lot of People pretty confused out there about the travel situation, but you have helped clarify a little bit, at least. Thank you very much. We are going to stay with this Travel Story now, the changes to the countries that People can and cant go to, and the governments comments about having to be cautious. Lets speak now to shadow Home Secretary nick thomas symonds. What you make of the changes are lack of changes that have been made clear by the government today, particularly portugal, which is of interest to many british Holiday Makers moving from the greenest of the embolus . flit holidaymakers moving from the greenest of the embolus . Of course theres been greenest of the embolus . Of course theres been an greenest of the embolus . Of course theres been an uptick greenest of the embolus . Of course theres been an uptick in greenest of the embolus . Of course theres been an uptick in cases i greenest of the embolus . Of course theres been an uptick in cases in i theres been an uptick in cases in portugal, so it isnt a surprise that portugal has been moved from the greenest, but today is a huge missed opportunity. The Amber List is an enormous problem, frankly. Government messaging on it has been ambiguous, we are taking far too much of a risk in terms of variants being able to come to our shores, so all i say is, yes, lets develop the Room Opening of travel with that small Green List that can grow over time, but the Amber List needs to go into the Red List. We need clarity about travel and a comprehensive Hotel Quarantine System in place across those countries to protect People and indeed to protect the Vaccine Roll Out. Just People and indeed to protect the vaccine rollout. People and indeed to protect the vaccine rollout. Just explain why use are so vaccine rollout. Just explain why use are so worried vaccine rollout. Just explain why use are so worried about vaccine rollout. Just explain why use are so worried about the i vaccine rollout. Just explain why i use are so worried about the Amber List. I think People are abusing that, going to places on the Amber List on holiday when they shouldnt be . ,. , list on holiday when they shouldnt be . ,. , list on holiday when they shouldnt be . ,. , list on holiday when they shouldnt be . ,. ,. , list on holiday when they shouldnt be . ,. , be . Thousands of People do seem to be . Thousands of People do seem to be iuoin to be . Thousands of People do seem to be going to amber be . Thousands of People do seem to be going to Amber List be . Thousands of People do seem to be going to Amber List countries, i be going to Amber List countries, but the blame for that has to lie with the deeply confused messaging of the government. The Prime Minister initially brief that the Amber List was meant to be for Essential Travel only, and Cabinet Minister then said that holidays might be considered Essential Travel, the Prime Minister then later said that People should only travel in exceptional circumstances, but we know firstly that thousands of People are travelling on it, and secondly we are seeing situations in some of our airports where People are mixing for substantial periods of time, irrespective of which country, whether it be considered Essential Travel, the Prime Minister then later said that People should only travel in exceptional circumstances, but we know firstly that thousands of People are travelling on it, and secondly we are seeing situations in some of our airports where People are mixing for substantial periods of time, irrespective of which country, weatherby red, amber or green, they have actually arrived from. These are really serious problems that are putting it throughout the 21st Of June reopening, and the government has to act decisively, and actonel, in frankly away they havent been on Border is during the pandemic. In portugal, the decision has been greeted angrily, by the Travel Industry here in the uk, the head of easyjet said this was a Shock Decision and a huge blow to those who are currently in portugal. Do you accept, i mean, its very difficult for the Travel Industry in this country right now . Its this country right now . Its undoubtedly this country right now . It s undoubtedly hugely challenging for the Travel Industry, and, indeed, for all the associated sectors and Aviation Supply chains, absolutely. The government should have been providing what it promised, which was a sector specific deal supporting aviation, and that should have already been done by the government. In relation to the specific decision in portugal, the government has to be transparent about data. As i say, we have seen that uptick in cases. The government needs to, every time a country changes from one list to another, to give that absolute Clarity And Confidence that they are acting in a proper, rational, evidence based way, because that is what promotes confidence in the measure is that the government is taking, and gives that Support And Assistance to those who are currently in portugal who clearly no need to make arrangements. Clearly no need to make arrangements. Clearly no need to make arranuements. , , arrangements. Youre being very critical of the arrangements. Youre being very critical of the government, i arrangements. Youre being very critical of the government, but l arrangements. Youre being very i critical of the government, but you said many times throughout this crisis, the government has not been cautious enough, but surely their Decisions Today and travel show, and this is what they have said, is that they have been very, very cautious today. Well, that they havent been| very cautious today, because if they had been very cautious today, they wouldnt only be announcing the movement of one country from green to amber, they would be announcing that that 150 plus countries that is actually on the Amber List was going into the Red List. Im afraid this is a pattern under this government, whether it was, you know, no formal Quarantining Untiljune last year, no mandatory Testing Tool this year, no mandatory Testing Tool this year, no quarantining till february this year, and then that 14 day inexplicable to say that it might delay in putting india onto the Red List. The former Trade Minister the former Prime Minister, theresa may, and more than a dozen other senior Conservative Mps have joined a rebellion against cuts to the uks foreign Aid Budget. Rebel tories believe they have enough support to win a vote next monday that would force ministers to increase Aid Spending next year. This from our diplomatic correspondent james landale. For years, britain has been a World Leader in delivering humanitarian and Development Aid around the world. But this year, the government has made cuts, saying it has to repair the public finances hit by the pandemic. Now a growing number of Conservative Mps, including the former Prime Minister, theresa may, are fighting back. Some 30 Tory Mps are Backing Plans to force the government to start spending more on aid next year. They say the cuts have had a devastating impact on the lives of some of the worlds most vulnerable People. We are talking about Famine Relief globally, we are talking about access to clean water in a pandemic so that People can wash. We are talking about access to Girls Education which the Prime Minister made a huge commitment to, describing it as the swiss Army Knife that solved a myriad of problems and challenges and we are talking about womens rights to access to contraception which prevents them from having unwanted pregnancies. The government cut Aid Spending this year by about £4 billion. It did that by cutting its target to spend just 0. 5 of national income on aid. The Rebel Amendment would reinstate the original target of 0. 7 next year. The rebels say they are confident of finding the 45 Tory Mps needed to win the Crunch Vote on monday. But ministers are looking at ways of heading off defeat and insist the uks Aid Budget remains generous, about £10 billion despite the cuts. The biggest contribution that we can make to ending this pandemic globally is the fact that we put the investment in here in oxford to develop the oxford Astrazeneca Vaccine and now, with astrazeneca, we make it available at cost to the whole world, and that doesnt take aid, that takes british science. Win or lose, the government will now be in the tricky position of having to defend its international aid cuts in the same week its hosting the G7 Summit in cornwall. James landale, Bbc News. Everything is packed in acid free boxes and Tissue Paper and then obviously things that are on display, theres slightly different criteria, so we look at light levels, but we also do a little bit of hands on conservation work. The dress has been loaned to the exhibition by her sons, the princes. It goes on displayjust a few weeks before what would have been dianas 60th birthday, a bittersweet reminder that life is rarely a simple as happily ever after. Ah, thats what everybodys been waiting for. Ellie price with that report. Next its the Bbc News at six with reeta chakrabarti. But first its time for a look at the weather with Ben Rich hello there. At the very warm weather we had earlier on this week, today a Truck Practice a little for all of us, and today we take that cooler for your back with us. It will be mostly dry, but not completely dry, and during today we saw crowding some patchy rain pushing up from the south affecting the Channel Islands and some southern council counties, and its all because of this is where the front here, bringing outbreaks of rain. Quite a right to keep across parts of East Anglia as we head through the ceiling into tonight, and particularly into tomorrow, but there is still a lot of uncertainty about the details of this rainfall. We are going to see some cloud and Showery Rain, elsewhere largely clear through the night. Quite a mild and muggy part, Showery Rain at times through tomorrow, and also this cloud brings some showers into Western Parts of Northern Ireland, and the Odd Shower elsewhere, too, but most players places on the contract. Uncertainty about the exact behaviour of this wet weather, criticallyjust how about the exact behaviour of this wet weather, critically just how far west it will get. I think we will see some rain at times into the london area, certainly across parts of East Anglia, but for much of the rest of england and wales it is fine, with some sunshine. These temperatures high teen, low 20s, about what we would expect at this time of year. Cloud bringing some rain into Northern Ireland, the Drug Shower popping up across scotland, temperatures up to aberdeen around 19 degrees. As we head into the weekend, High Pressure will always be close by, so that means there will always be a lot of dry weather. But a frontal system pushing in from the west will bring crowden some such Showery Rain into Northern Ireland in western scotland. This front will be a weakening effect, but it could bring the old heavy shower as we head through saturday and sunday afternoon, largely drivers some sunshine, temperatures between 18 and 23 degrees, and the other be with us into sunday, but you cant see much of of it on the charts, just a bit more of cloud developing through the day, the Odd Shower in here, temperatures raiding from 18 in glasgow to 23 in london. Quarantine free travel to portugal will end on tuesday, as the government moves it off the uk Green List. For travellers hoping to get to the only Mainstream Option for european holidays, its a bitter blow. Im gutted, really. But, anyway, it is what it is. I understand. But we cant quarantine. We are trying to change flights as i stand. But its not likely that ill be able to go. Greece, along with spain, france, and italy, all remain on the Amber List meaning ten Days Quarantine on return, and two covid tests. Well be getting the reaction from the Travel Industry and asking whether this is a foretaste of a Stop Start Summer for british Holiday Makers. Also on the programme.
