Trent Alexander Arnold limps off during englands friendly with austria, Bukaya Saka giving them the win. Scotland drew with The Netherlands and wales lost in france. One of the worlds most famous Wedding Dresses, the gown worn by Princess Diana, goes on display for the first time in 25 years. Diana come up with that dress, was declaring herself on the world stage. She was going to be a Rule Breaker and a Fashion Icon. Yesterday was the warmest day of the year so far. The temperature in the London Reach 28 degrees. Today claudia. It should brighten up as we go through the course of the morning. Today more cloudy. Its thursday, the 3rd ofjune. Our top story. The man appointed by borisjohnson to Help Pupils in england make up for lost learning during the pandemic, has resigned in a row overfunding. Sir Kevan Collins said the £11; billion allocated to the scheme fell far short of what was needed. Simonjones has this report. After months of Classroom Closures due to coronavirus, schools are now playing catchup. But that wilL Need extra cash, and the Governments Education Recovery tsar says there simply isnt enough of it. In a resignation statement, Sir Kevan Collins said hed ask for Landmark Investment but instead ministers had chosen a plan that is too narrow, delivered too slowly. One that falls far short of whats needed. He adds, a hard hearted approach risks failing pupils. The astonishing thing is the Prime Minister hired him to do a job, knowing the kind of people he would produce. Report he would produce. When he produces it, the Prime Minister throws his hand up and says, no. Its really, really important to realise there are parts of this country that will suffer because of this because parts of the north of england, schools have been closed for double the amount of time that other parts of the country, particularly in the south, have done. The government had announced an extra eli; billion over three years for Tutoring And Teacher training. Sir kevan is reported to have wanted ten times that. This is not The End of announcements for what needs to be done to support this generation of young people. Theyve been through an immensely disruptive time, which has affected different children, different young people in different ways, and the government is committed, i believe, to doing what it takes to address that. We havent yet had the comprehensive Spending Review and when we do we will hear more about what those plans are. The government says it will continue to focus on Education Recovery to make sure no child is left behind with their learning, insisting more money is on the way. Sir kevan says whats on offer so far does not come close to meeting the scale of the challenge. Simon jones, Bbc News. Werejoined now by our chief political correspondent, adam fleming. We are looking for what response there has been to What Has happened. In one moment we have someone lauded for what they are going to bring to the table and now he has gone. What has been the reaction . fix, the table and now he has gone. What has been the reaction . Has been the reaction . A downing Street Statement has been the reaction . A downing Street Statement yesterday has been the reaction . A downing i Street Statement yesterday following the resignation, thanked him for his service to the country and pointed out they had already committed a hefty £3 billion to the Catch Up Programme, notan hefty £3 billion to the Catch Up Programme, not an insignificant amount of money, just not significant enough for said kevan, he was asking for something like £10 billion so the School Day could be extended for every pupil in england by half an hour a day. It turns out that was too much for The Treasury, who have said they wanted to see more evidence it would work and spend more time looking at plans and bolder into the comprehensive Spending Review in your tim, which will all spending done by all Government Departments. In the autumn. This is a personal Prime Ministerial priority. No Prime Minister likes their personal Priority Policy being described as key slow, too narrow, too small or half hearted. There is a caveat to this. Borisjohnson s of session is the Tutoring Programme. That got an extra £2 billion yesterday. Boris johnson does not appear to have a view over whether the School Day should be extended and maybe this is not such a huge clash between the Prime Minister, The Treasury and the Education Tsar as we might expect. It will be fascinating to see how this debate pans out over the next few months. Do we see more money given to the Tutoring Programme . Adam, thank you very much. The organisers of the Tokyo Olympics have ruled out a cancellation or another postponement of the games, amid a surge in covid Infections Injapan and a State Of Emergency in the Capital. 10,000 volunteers have already pulled out over concerns about rising covid cases, and a slow vaccination rollout. Translation im going to take all prevention measures we can | take, and well be Watching the game away from other fans. Inside, just 5,000 spectators are allowed. Theyve been holding Football Matches like this injapan, with audiences, throughout the covid pandemic, and they say they can do so safely because everybody wears masks, because of the Safety Measures that theyve put in place, and they say they havent had one single cluster of covid traced back to any of these games since the beginning of the pandemic. All this is evidence to support the Olympic Committees latest mantra, which is repeated at every opportunity. We will be able to deliver a safe and secure games for everyone. These games will be able to be staged in a safe and secure manner. We will be able to deliver a safe and secure games this summer. But safe and secure is not how it feels in the Emergency Ward at Thejuso Hospital in osaka. The last month has been exhausting for staff here, with more covid patients than ever before. The international Olympic Committee says events like this show that going ahead with the olympics can be done with minimal risk. It seems like there is frenetic activity to get everything ready, get the preparations for the checks and Security And Bio security that will be needed in order to hold it safely, as the ioc says it will be. It is still extremely controversial here. Not only have we had 10,000 volunteers resign in the last week, we have also heard from one of our senior advisers to the japanese authority. She said going ahead with the olympics during the pandemic is not normal. That is just adding to the voices of scientists, doctors, and the general public, who are saying, this is not a post olympics pandemic, this is an olympics in the middle of a pandemic. Is that really a wise thing to be doing . The japanese government says yes, the ioc says yes. We understand the japanese Prime Minister will next week in corn will ask for Support Forjapan going ahead with the Olympic Games. In cornwall. Nasa has announced two new missions to venus, aimed at understanding why the planet became an extremely inhospitable place while earth managed to thrive. The missions will examine the Planets Atmosphere and geological features and are scheduled to launch at The End of the decade. Our correspondent David Willis reports. Venus is the closest planet to earth, and similar in size, mass, density and composition. In recent years, its received less attention than mars and other destinations in the Solar System, primarily because its so hot. Its dense atmosphere Traps Heat from The Sun, leading to temperatures of more than A70 Celsius in places. Interest in venus was rekindled after astronomers said they had detected a molecule in the clouds which could be a possible sign of life. Nasa is now planning two robotic missions later this decade, one of which will analyse the Planets Atmosphere, whilst the other will map its surface. These two sister missions, both aimed to understand how venus became an infertile like world, capable of Melting Lead at the surface. They will offer the entire Science Community the chance to investigate a planet we havent been to in more than 30 years. Nasa says the missions will also help to further understanding of why earth is habitable whilst other planet in the Solar System are not. David willis, Bbc News, los angeles. And the daily mails front page carries a warning that foreign holidays could be under threat amid growing concern about a new variant of coronavirus thought to have originated in nepal. The paper says there are fears it could be resistant to vaccines but quotes one Government Adviser who said officials should not be overly concerned. The Daily Mirror accuses the Prime Minister of letting down children after only a fraction of the cash needed was allocated to their Catch Up plans. The paper includes comments from the former Education Tsar, Sir Kevan Collins who resigned over the proposals yesterday. The government said it would continue to focus on Education Recovery. fears for foreign holidays also make the front page of the daily telegraph this morning. It carries a warning from borisjohnson that officials would not hesitate to remove countries from the travel Green List. The paper suggests portugal could face the axe after a rise in cases there. And the most read on the Bbc News website is this mind bending image of an orangutan said to be an Optical Illusion because of the sky reflected in the water beneath it. The image has won first prize in the Nature Photographer of the year competition. The picture is taken from up above, looking down but because of the blue, it looks like the sky and you would think it is looking up. Beautiful, anyway. One of the stories we hear periodically, there is a thing about younger drivers, they know the rules better, they have taken the test more recently than older drivers. This survey says basically over 55 do not remind themselves of the Highway Code often enough. This reminds me of a conversation we once had when you said i would not pass my test if i took it now. I think that is true. I am definitely the same. D want to do their thing here . Are we all engaged . These are some of the questions. Do we want to do the thing here . Take your time. The Theatre Sector has been one of those areas hardest hit by the pandemic. As most of the workers are freelance meaning many were not eligible for furlough when theatres were forced to close back in march last year. But Last Night a special concert at the Palace Theatre was held to raise money for those affected. The show must go on brought together 18 different musicals and over 50 performers to the stage. Its Host And Star of hamilton said it was an emotional evening. Genuinely, genuinely i find myself already getting overly emotional backstage and feeling the tears come when i dont necessarily expect them to because there is such an emotional catharsis happening on that stage and for the audiences, they get to come and share that with us and that is really exciting. And the concert will be free to stream live on Sunday Evening at 7pm on the shows youtube channel. Lets Take A Look at the Travel Situation now. Theres a good service on the tubes this morning. Just minor delays on the Circle Line. On the roads, london bound traffic on the a13 is building through barking. The Strand Underpass is closed following a collsion, with a short queue on Waterloo Bridge as traffic diverts into aldwych. Now the weather with gillian brown. Good morning. A warm start to the day across the Capital already with temperatures in the mid to high teens. Its a cloudier start than weve seen this week but that cloud will gradually thin and break as we go through the day and behind it plenty of Brightness And Sunshine once again and it is still going to feel warm in that sun, with highs of 2a, maybe even 25 celsius. Into this evening, some late periods of sunshine, gradually into the early hours this band of quite heavy, possibly thundery showers is going to push up from the south so it could be a bit of a soggy start to friday. Temperatures to begin with around 11 or 12 celsius overnight and they will build through the day, but its likely we are going to hang onto some of those showers as we go through the course of the afternoon as well. But we will hang on to The Sunshine through the weekend, saturday and sunday looking drier and brighter but still the likelihood of a shower on sunday, more so than saturday, but a pretty bright and warm weekend to come. We will keep you up to date with the forecast and i will see you soon. Im back with the latest from the Bbc London newsroom in half an hour. Plenty more on our website at the usual address. They will be the ones on the Green List. Gp Dr Fari Ahmad joins us now from wilmslow. Good morning to you. Lets concentrate for a moment on the Travel Restrictions and potential changes. We dont find out until five oclock this afternoon were quite a lot of speculation about it. People are interested and it is the summer. What you make of what you are seeing and hearing . I summer. What you make of what you are seeing and hearing . Are seeing and hearing . I think a lot of peeple are seeing and hearing . I think a lot of people understandably are seeing and hearing . I think a| lot of people understandably after the year and a bit we have had are keen to get away and keen to get a holiday or a break and get some sunshine. But i think what is happening is we need to look and see where we are going and are we putting ourselves more at risk and are we in danger of bringing the coronavirus back with us, so its important to know that places are safe that we can go to and places that are on the amber and red zone, and the advices only go if travel is necessary, so this is lots of People Something lots of people will be looking up with interest to see if they can go anywhere for their Summer Break or not. We they can go anywhere for their Summer Break or not. They can go anywhere for their Summer Break or not. We ust have to wait and see Summer Break or not. There is a L Wait and see on that one. There is a lot of emphasis, increasingly so, as we head towardsjune 21 and potentially the relaxation of many other areas of how we lead our lives, social distancing and everything, and a lot more emphasis on personal responsibility. I wonder what you are seeing in terms of people coming to see you in the practice on the decisions they are making about how they are leading their lives. ,. ,. ,. , their lives. Throughout this and all their lives. Throughout this and all the restrictions their lives. Throughout this and all the restrictions we their lives. Throughout this and all the restrictions we have their lives. Throughout this and all the restrictions we have had their lives. Throughout this and all the restrictions we have had that i the restrictions we have had that have increased and reduced, a lot of it has come down to personal responsibility. Lots of people have taken it on board that they hear what they need to do and they go ahead and do it and if people didnt, most of the Restrictions Wouldnt have had the impact they had. Moving forward, its interesting now that there is the thought of people are stopping social distancing under mask wearing, so weve had discussions with people who are more vulnerable and they have a different view on it and they have a different view on it and are less keen to do so. Ive had people say that i probably will wear my mask because i feel it keeps me less at risk and there is the other side of that spectrum who say, we should have stopped this weeks ago and it will in The End become very personal and Peoples Understanding of their own risks and the people they love and how they are affected, and trying to get all of that on balance to find the right way forward. ,. , , forward. We are seeing a lot of Mental Health issues affecting children, school aged children, and in terms of how the pandemic happened and how lockdown happened it has had a massive impact on some of these children, and they are contacting us for help. I think the problem we are having is the demand for places they can get help from is far exceeding the supply, and this has always been the case with Mental Health, even before the pandemic and certainly this issue has become worse. It would be a good place to concentrate resources on, to help young people find ways to support their mental Health And Help parents and teachers support them. Encouraging performances from most of the Home Nationsjust two weeks out from the euros, but englands win over austria could have cost them with an Injury Worry for Trent Alexander Arnold. Scotland led twice in their draw with The Netherlands while ten man wales suffered a defeat to france. Our sports correspondent, Katie Gornall Watched the action. Excitement is building. Soon england will kick off their european championship, but this will not be the team that walks out in ten days time. Jesse lingard started for one, despite being cut from the squad. With no chelsea, united or city players available after their european finals, england still looked fluent against austria in the first half. All that was missing was a goal. Only a handful of players remain from englands last euros, a turnover driven by the emergence of young talent such as Bukayo Saka, 19 years old and taking his chance. But here is a sight Fans Wont want to see, Trent Alexander Arnold limping off injured. Quite what this means for him is unclear but it was an unfortunate end to a game that edges england closer to the starting line. Scotland arrived in portugal to face The Netherlands low on numbers after the loss of seven players due to covid concerns and what they needed was something to lift them, and jack hendry, the centre back delivered. How about that . Spurred into action, the dutch responded quickly as Memphis Depay, once of Manchester United, made his mark. But Scotland Werent done yet, as Kevin Nisbet came off the bench to thump home. That looked to be the winner, but depay would pop up again to take the gloss off what was still a good night for scotland. Facing the toughest test though was wales, who were taking on the World Champions, france, in nice, but this small country has big ambitions and in goal, Danny Ward was more than a match, but then var are intervened. A handball was spotted and Neco Williams punished. Step forward karim benzema. Six years hes been out of the national team. Welcome back. With ten men, wales were struggling. Eventually they would succumb as Kylian Mbappe pounced. If that was scrappy, what followed from Antoine Griezmann was sublime. France would score again as it finished 3 0. Wales will surely have better nights than this. England manager Gareth Southgate said he would know more about Alexander Arnolds injury in the next 2a hours, but he also spoke about his disappointment at a section of the Crowd Booing as the players took a knee. Idid hear i did hear it. Its not something on behalf i did hear it. Its not something on behalf of i did hear it. At lords, englands match against New Zealand was overshadowed by Debut Bowler Ollie robinson who had to apologise after historical tweets of a racist and sexist nature were revealed. On the pitch, New Zealands debutant Devon Conway finished with an unbeaten 136, as New Zealand closed on 246 3. It was the first time that england had played in front of a Home Crowd in almost two years, with around 7 and a half thousand fans inside lords. However, they may have hoped for a better start to the season. Ollie robinson took two wickets. While James Anderson removed new Zealand Captain Kane williamson. But it was an unbeaten partnership of 132 between Conway And Henry nicholls that steered the match in the tourists favour. As we mentioned, england Bowler Ollie Robinson said he felt ashamed after he was found to have sent tweets of a racist and sexist nature eight years ago. He made this statement after the days play. We certainl will we have more sunshine . Certainly will. Its been quite a muqqy certainly will. Its been quite a Muggy Night for some of us and at the moment In London the temperature is 18 degrees but if you wake up in braemar, the temperature is only 5 degrees. There is a lot of cloud around this morning but dont be full. The Uv Levels will be high or very high across most of The Uk. So the forecast for today is mostly dry. There are some showers in the northern half of the country and although the temperatures will still be roughly where they should be at this Stage Injune it will feel coolerfor most compared this Stage Injune it will feel cooler for most compared to yesterday, and the exception to that is in the South East of england. This morning we have showers across northern england, Northern Ireland and southern Scotland Courtesy of the Weather Front which has pushed north through the course of the night. It will continue to move north and the showers will tend to fade. The cloud we currently have will break up and we will see sunshine developing. Temperatures in The Sunshine widely in the low or Mid 20s and locally in the South East we are looking at roundabout 25 up to 27 despite what you see on the charts. Overnight we will see showers coming up across the Channel Islands and getting as far north as the midlands and into the South East of england and some of those could be heavy and thundery. We will also have showers across the North West of scotland and parts of Northern Ireland. A lot of dry weather, a fresher night than the onejust gone. Of dry weather, a fresher night than the one just gone. Tomorrow we start with those showers in the North West and they will tend to fade. The showers in the South East move further north and a little bit further north and a little bit further west as well. Again, the potential for them to be heavy and thundery and it will cloud over in the west with some spots of Rain Coming in late in the day as a new Weather Front approaches but Cooler Tomorrow with a saucy temperatures in the high teens or Low 20s. With us all seeing temperatures. By, with us all seeing temperatures. A lovely look over the skyline. Its one of the most recognisable items of clothing in history and now Princess Dianas Wedding Dress is going back on public display for the first time in 25 years. The gown forms part of a new exhibition at Kensington Palace from where our correspondent, ellie price, joins us now. Ellie, its going to be something that really brings back many, many memories for lots of people because that dress did have the Wow Factor then. And there is a lot of anticipation here at Kensington Palace because we are in the presence of royalty, at least addresses they wore. And this one incidentally is one that Princess Margaret wore in the late 19605 but there are cri5i5 dresses from the Queen Mother and that Big Dre55 there are cri5i5 dresses from the Queen Mother and that big dress from diana that she wore on her big day almost four decades ago. It was the wedding. The dre55. Even the archbishop of canterbury described the day as the stuff of Fairy Tales. 750 Million people tuned in worldwide to Watch. 600,000 people tried to see for themselves along the route from St Pauls to buckingham palace. And out come the bride and groom. Diana, the dress, the wedding, it marked the moment, a huge shift in the relationship between public and press and the Royal Family. It was the beginning of di mania, this huge obsession with this young, 20 year old girl, this absolute obsession with her that was never going to wane. The wedding took place on a warm wednesday in latejuly almost a0 years ago. It was a bank holiday, and for those who did not line the streets of london, it was essential viewing on the telly. What were you doing that day . I got dressed up in my mums Wedding Dress and Watched the royal wedding. How old were you . I was about six. She got out of the car and her dress, ithink it was made by the emmanuels, and it was massive, the long train and it was very creased and everyone was fussing around her and trying to straighten it out. I just think everybody was so pleased to see them together and married. It was just essential viewing. Nobody i knew didnt Watch it. I wa517. Did it feel like a Fairy Tale . It did. Ye5, every girls dream. The dress is on display for the first time in 25 years at Kensington Palace. All 25 feet of train, 10,000 Mother Of Pearl sequins and lots and lots of taffeta ruffles. Along with the other items in the collection, including this life sized Te5t Garment of the Coronation Gown of Queen Elizabeth, the Queen Mother from 1937, its a challenge to keep these dresses in their full royal glory. Once they are installed we monitor the environment they are in, we look at relative humidity, temperature, pe5t5 are also a very big problem. Everything is packed in acid free boxes, in tissue paper, and then obviously things that are on display, slightly different criteria, so we look at light levels but we also do a bit of hands on conservation work. The dress has been loaned to the exhibition by her sons, the princes, and it goes on display just a few weeks before what would have been diana is 60th birthday, a bittersweet reminder that life is rarely as simple a5 happily ever after. And thats what everyone has been waiting for. That was the thing that charles and dianas wedding, it was the Fairy Tale, it was the huge romance. The world fell in love with it but under it all it was a very different story, and when diana spoke out and chose to shatter the Fairy Tale, it was almost too much for the national obsession to bear. There are five garments here, not just the one from diana, but they are all beautiful and rewarding me now is Claudia Williams who is the curator here. Ifeel like i recognise this one, but i dont. The Theatre Sector has been one of those areas hardest hit by the pandemic. As most of the workers are freelance meaning many were not eligible for furlough when theatres were forced to close back in march last year. But Last Night a special concert at the Palace Theatre was held to raise money for those affected. The show must go on brought together 18 different mu5icals and over 50 performers to the stage. The Strand Underpass is closed following a collision, with a short queue on Waterloo Bridge as traffic diverts into aldwych. Now the weather with gillian brown. Good morning. A warm start to the day across the Capital already with temperatures in the mid to high teen5. Its a cloudier start than weve seen this week but that cloud will gradually thin and break as we go through the day and behind it plenty of Brightness And 5un5hine once again and it is still going to feel warm in that sun, with highs of 2a, maybe even 25 celsius. Im back with the latest from the Bbc London new5room in half an hour. Plenty more on our website at the usual addre55. Sir Kevan Collins said the £1. A billion allocated to the scheme fell far short of what was needed. Simonjones has this report. After months of Classroom Closures due to coronavirus, schools are now playing catchup. But that wilL Need extra cash, and the Governments Education Recovery tsar says there simply isnt enough of it. In a resignation statement, Sir Kevan Collins said hed asked for Landmark Investment but instead mini5ter5 had chosen a plan that is too narrow, delivered too slowly. One that falls far short of whats needed. He adds, a hard hearted Approach Ri5ks failing pupils. The astonishing thing is the Prime Minister hired him to do a job, knowing the kind of report he would produce. When he produces it, the Prime Minister throws his hand up and says, no. Its really, really important to realise there are parts of this country that will suffer because of this because part5 of the north of england, schools have been closed for double the amount of time that other parts of the country, particularly in the south, have done. The government had announced an extra £1. A billion over three years for Tutoring And Teacher training. Sir kevan is reported to have wanted ten times that. This is not The End of announcements for what needs to be done to support this generation of young people. Theyve been through an immensely di5ruptive time, which has affected different children, different young people in different ways, and the government is committed, i believe, to doing what it takes to address that. We havent yet had the comprehensive Spending Review and when we do we will hear more about what those plans are. The government says it will continue to focus on Education Recovery to make sure no child is left behind with their learning, In5isting More Money is on the way. What this i thanked Sir Kevan. What this argument is about that has prompted his Resignation I5 Argument is about that has prompted his resignation is not necessarily the Tutoring Programme or Teacher Training announced yesterday, he wanted to extend the School Day for all pupils in england. It would work out an average of an extra half an hour a day, dedicated to what he called Enrichment Activities, extracurricular activities, extracurricular activities like sport, mu5ic activities, extracurricular activities like sport, music and maybe extra Tutoring A5 activities like sport, music and maybe extra tutoring as well. The treasury, who allocate the money for all of this stuff, say they were not convinced by that pace and they were not convinced by doing it now. That is the subject of a review that will take a couple of weeks or months. It raises the question, is bori5 johnsons Flagship Policy for the pandemic recovery, helping children to Catch Up with lost learning, now being held hostage or taken control of by The Treasury . I am not sure thatis of by The Treasury . I am not sure that is the case. We do not really know if bori5 that is the case. We do not really know if Borisjohnson I5 that is the case. We do not really know if borisjohnson is in favour of an extended School Day or not. We do not know if he has been prevented from getting that. We know he is obsessed by the Tutoring Programme. That got an extra £1 billion yesterday. He is getting his way on that. Claims of a massive row between the government and The Treasury might be a little bit exaggerated, Orat Treasury might be a little bit exaggerated, or at least they are exaggerated, or at least they are exaggerated for now. Exaggerated, or at least they are exaggerated for now. Thank you very much. The organisers of the Tokyo Olympics have ruled out a cancellation or another postponement of the games amid a surge in Covid Infection5 Injapan and a State Of Emergency in the Capital. 10,000 volunteers have already pulled out over concerns about rising covid cases, and a slow vaccination rollout. Nasa has announced two new missions to venus, aimed at understanding why the planet became an extremely inhospitable place while life on Earth Earth managed to thrive. These two sister missions, both aimed to understand how venus became an inferno like world, capable of Melting Lead at the surface. They will offer the entire Science Community the chance to investigate a planet we havent been to in more than 30 years. Nasa says the missions will also help to further understanding of why earth is habitable whilst other planets in the Solar System are not. David willis, Bbc News, los angeles. Thank you very much stop this time last year on breakfast, we spoke to nurse, we spoke to nurse suzie vaughan, who was caring for patients on a covid ward at Queen Elizabeth hospital in kings lynn. Suzie spent nine weeks away from her two young daughters and shared with us the Surprise Moment they were all reunited. A year on, Robbie West has been catching up with the family. Mummy filmed a year ago, this was the moment a nurse, who was working at the Queen Elizabeth hospital in kings lynn, was reunited with her two daughters. Hetty and bella went to stay with their auntie at the start of the pandemic, enabling their mum to work on the critical care front line. Today they re Watched the video that has been seen millions of times across the world. Just emotional. Really happy. But despite the happiness now, at the time they were frightened their mum would catch the virus. I thought id never see her again. I felt worried just in case that all those people, What Had happened to them might happen to her. I understand because she went to save all those people and she went to help them. A year on, suzie told me what it was like at the beginning of the pandemic, as hospitals began to fill up with covid patients. It was a bit like a War Zone really, thats the way to describe it. Obviously weve never experienced a pandemic, so it was a learning curve. Every single day was a learning curve. Suzie has now left the nhs and has moved to peterborough to be close to her family. She says she still gets emotional when she Watches the video of her surprising the girls. On my way to pick them up i wasjust grinning from ear to ear. Ifelt like a kid. At christmas i couldnt wait to get there. I was expecting them to hear me come through. Ithought, 0k, illjust creep up behind them. When they turned around and screamed, mummy, i felt like My Heart was going to explode. I was so happy to see them. Their reaction made me feel guilty again. A year on, hetty and bella have had time to process what their mum did and its led to them wanting to follow in their footsteps. Im thinking of working at the nhs and at the hospital. I want to be a lifeguard when i grow up, for her saving peoples lives and me saving peoples lives. I cant say how proud of her i am. Shes my hero. Itjust really warms My Heart. I know i did the right thing by them. As much as i questioned myself back then, i know i did the right thing. Sacrifice during a time of crisis. A hard decision to separate a family. The Theatre Sector has been one of those areas hardest hit by the pandemic as most of the workers are freelance meaning many were not eligible for furlough when theatres were forced to close back in march last year. The show must go on. But Last Night a special concert at the Palace Theatre was heald to raise money for those affected. And the concert will be free to stream live on Sunday Evening at 7pm on the show s youtube channel. Lets Take A Look at the Travel Situation now. Theres a good service on the tubes this morning. Just the Circle Line with minor delays. On the roads, Blackwall Tunnel southern approach is slow from the Woolwich Rd Flyover the Strand Underpass is closed following a collsion, with a short queue on Waterloo Bridge as. Traffic diverts into aldwych. Im back with the latest from the Bbc London newsroom in an hour. Plenty more on our website at the usual address. Now though its back to naga and charlie. Hello, this is breakfast with Naga Munchetty and charlie stayt. Too narrow, too small and will be delivered too slowly that was the damning assessment of the governments new Catch Up fund for pupils in england made by the very man tasked with overseeing its roll out. Sir Kevan Collins resigned yesterday after the money pledged for the scheme, £1. A billion, fell far short of what he had proposed. Lets get reaction now from the chair of the education select committee, robert halfon. Thanks very much for your time. I was looking at your social Media Feed and you said that to lose someone of the stature of Sir Kevan Collins is a real Blow World todays Catch Up money is hugely welcome to improve Attainment And Outcome for disadvantaged pupils, we need a properly resourced, radical, long Term Plan and funding. This is what Sir Kevan Collins was brought in to do, and he hasnt been listened to. What do you think is happening . Listened to. What do you think is haueninu . ,. , happening . Yesterday i thought the overall amount happening . Yesterday i thought the overall amount of happening . Yesterday i thought the overall amount of money, happening . Yesterday i thought the overall amount of money, around i happening . Yesterday i thought the | overall amount of money, around £3 billion for extra tuition and Catch Up was a hefty starter from the government as long as there was a main course and Sir Kevan Collins clearly thought there was no main course and that is why he resigned and it is a huge blow because he is and it is a huge blow because he is a serious individual with some serious ideas and i think that the government needs to ensure that education is their number one priority. We put so much energy into the economy and health, but education needs to be considered alongside it. There is always the question of funding and i recognise that 400 Billion has been spent on the pandemic and we are 1 Trillion in debt but the government found an extra 16 Billion for defence and we are going to spend 800 Million on a new Research Agency and £200 million on a royal yacht to showcase business around the world so if we can find money from the back of The Treasury safer for those things, why on Earth Cant we find the right funding for a long Term Plan for education . Its got to be a radical long Term Plan. We have to look at things like a longer School Day as Sir Kevan was proposing and we have to look at the cutting of the Summer Holidays and reallocating the holidays and reallocating the holidays over the year and look at the curriculum and prepare children for the world of work and undo the awful damage that children have faced over the past year because of not being at school. What faced over the past year because of not being at school. Not being at school. What do you think this does not being at school. What do you think this does in not being at school. What do you think this does in terms not being at school. What do you think this does in terms of not being at school. What do you think this does in terms of a think this does in terms of a reflection on the government . Sir kevan told an education select committee in march that the 1. 7 billion pledged fell far short of what was needed and this is not a surprise, is it . What was needed and this is not a surprise. Is it . Surprise, is it . When he was appointed surprise, is it . When he was appointed as surprise, is it . When he was appointed as an surprise, is it . When he was appointed as an adviser surprise, is it . When he was appointed as an adviser to l surprise, is it . When he was| appointed as an adviser to 10 downing street, why appoint somebody of his stature who the government respects, he was formerly head of the Education Endowment Foundation that the government give money to to carry out educational research, so why appoint someone like that and ask him to do a plan and then reject most of it . That i dont understand. As i say, the damage of the last year has been enormous to children in terms of educational attainment, Mental Health, safeguarding hazards, their lifetime chances, statistic after statistic and Sir Kevan mentioned 200,000 children are below literacy levels and that is just one of the statistics, so we have to repair the damage of covid and reduce the Attainment Gap. At the moment there are disadvantaged pupils who are 18 months behind better off pupils by the time they reach 16 and we know that white working class boys and girls on free school meals underperform almost every other ethnic group at every stage of the education system, so big challenges facing schools which is why the government needs to come up is why the government needs to come up with a long Term Plan and it has to be properly funded. If the nhs can have a properfunding. Apologies for interrupting, but Sir Kevan came up with a plan needed now and said if something is not done now, this problem, the children who have fallen behind are going to fall behind even further and the Attainment Gap you mentioned will widen even more. The government has been given a plan and it doesnt want to spend the money on it, so what is the point of a long Term Plan . I what is the point of a longterm lan . ,. , what is the point of a longterm ian . ,. ,. ,. ,. , plan . I agree with a lot of what Sir Kevan has said, plan . I agree with a lot of what Sir Kevan has said, and plan . I agree with a lot of what Sir Kevan has said, and he plan . I agree with a lot of what Sir Kevan has said, and he was plan . I agree with a lot of what sir| kevan has said, and he was setting out a plan and at The End of the day the plan has got to come from the Prime Minister and the education secretary. Sir Kevan Collins is an adviser but i have a lot of sympathy with what he was trying to do and we need that radical thinking and we need that radical thinking and we need to make education as much of a priority as we do defence, health and the economy and given the support, the financial support, the muscle, the political will that it needs. ,. , ~ muscle, the political will that it needs. , ~. , needs. Tell me what you think, how ou think needs. Tell me what you think, how you think this needs. Tell me what you think, how you think this reflects needs. Tell me what you think, how you think this reflects on needs. Tell me what you think, how you think this reflects on the you think this reflects on the conservative party . One of the things that Sir Kevan Collins said that in parts of the country where schools were closed for longer, such as the north, the impact of low skills on productivity is likely to be particularly severe. The conservative party built a lot of its Base And Support at the last election with the promise of levelling up. This is an obvious statement on the fact that without money and this needed money, according to Sir Kevan Collins, levelling up is not going to happen, at least for children. I levelling up is not going to happen, at least for children. At least for children. I was never a Lockdown Sceptic at least for children. I was never a Lockdown Sceptic but at least for children. I was never a Lockdown Sceptic but i at least for children. I was never a Lockdown Sceptic but i was at least for children. I was never a Lockdown Sceptic but i was always | at least for children. I was never a l Lockdown Sceptic but i was always a School Closure Sceptic in one of the reasons i campaigned over the last yearfor reasons i campaigned over the last year for schools to be kept open Evenif Year for schools to be kept open even if everything else was shut down was because i was worried about the damage to children and Sir Kevan Collins and others have set out how stark the damage has been, especially to disadvantaged pupils, especially to disadvantaged pupils, especially the disadvantaged areas in the country that will be with us for months and years to come unless we act quickly, so it levelling up is to mean anything, yes, the government has done some brilliant work on skills and lifetime learning, but it levelling up is to mean something really substantial, we have to have that long Term Plan for education. Education has to be a Core Part of it, properly funded and supported and real political will from The Treasury behind it. Do you think this government from The Treasury behind it. Do you think this government has from The Treasury behind it. Do you think this government has come from The Treasury behind it. Do you| think this government has come out well after this . fit think this government has come out well after this . Well after this . Of course, when these things well after this . Of course, when these things happen well after this . Of course, when these things happen its well after this . Of course, when these things happen its not well after this . Of course, when i these things happen its not great, but to be fair to the government, as i mentioned in the beginning, they have put £3 billion will Catch Up and extra tuition, and that is serious money and it should be welcome. 100 Million extra hours of tuition and hundreds of millions of pounds going into Summer Holiday activities programmes across schools, so there are some good things the government have done but im asking for real political will and muscle, that long Term Plan, some radical thinking out of the box and to make sure it is properly resourced and it has to come sooner rather than later because we need to ensure that we repair the damage to children over the past year. You ensure that we repair the damage to children over the past year. Children over the past year. You say its a significant children over the past year. You say its a significant amounts children over the past year. You say its a significant amounts of children over the past year. You say its a significant amounts of money, £3 billion, certainly nothing to be sniffed at in terms of the real world, but what this extra funding, the 1. 4 billion, amounts to £50 per pupil per year, which is a tenth of what Sir Kevan Collins said was needed. So we are always talking about big figures, but it is what is needed. You, as the chair of the education select committee, what can you do about this now . I education select committee, what can you do about this now . You do about this now . I want to seak to you do about this now . I want to speak to my you do about this now . I want to speak to my committee you do about this now . I want to i speak to my committee colleagues. You do about this now . I want to speak to my committee colleagues. I dont make decisions without them, but ive been campaigning for a properly resourced and long Term Plan for education for over two years now. In fact, we published a previous Committee Report asking for this before covid. I canjust continue to do that and raise questions in parliament and have witnesses before the Committee And Hope that possibly we can ask Sir Kevan to come before the committee to set out the full details of the plan that he had proposed to the government and what i can do as a Committee Chair is to lobby the government to make sure that education, the real political muscle and will behind it, if we can find during covid an extra 16. 5 billion for defence, why cant we find that extra money for education . If we can find money for tanks, why cant we find money for tanks, why cant we find the extra funds needed for textbooks . There has to be political will and i hope if Sir Kevans resignation has done anything it will give impetus to the government to come up with this long Term Plan for education. Jane, i was listening, as part of my campaign to get excited about euro 2020 on the radio to the England Game. First off, no goals, and i was delighted to hear, correctly if im wrong, is it chris waddle who was doing the commentary and he used the phrase that england are playing really well but they need to get the ball in the back of the net. He used that phrase twice in the space of ten minutes and then it changed in the second half. The second half. They got their aoal. The second half. They got their goal they the second half. They got their goal they got the second half. They got their goal. They got the the second half. They got their goal. They got the win, the second half. They got their goal. They got the win, but the second half. They got their goal. They got the win, but at| the second half. They got their goal. They got the win, but at what cost . So much talk before the Squad Selection about Trent Alexander Arnold, would he be selected or left out and that could be an irrelevance because he picked up be an irrelevance because he picked up an injury and that could be very significant for england. Encouraging performances from most of the Home Nationsjust two weeks out from the euros, Bukayo Saka scored a Debut Goal for england in their win, scotland led twice in their draw with The Netherlands, but ten man wales suffered a defeat to france. Facing the toughest test though was wales, who were taking on the World Champions, france, in nice, but this small country has big ambitions and in goal, Danny Ward was more than a match, but then var intervened. England manager Gareth Southgate said he would know more about Alexander Arnolds injury in the next 24 hours, but he also spoke about his disappointment at a section of the Crowd Booing as the players took a knee. I did hear it. Its not something on behalf of our black players that i wanted to hear, because it feels as though it is a criticism of them. I think we have got a situation where some people seem to think it is a political stand that they dont agree with. Thats not the reason that the players are doing it. We are supporting each other. Staying with football could antonio conte be making a return to the Premier League with tottenham . Spurs have made contact with the former Chelsea Manager who won the Premier League with them in 2017. Conte left italian club inter milan last month after leading them to their first League Title in more than 10 years. Spurs have been without a permanent manager since the Departure Ofjose Mourinho in april. It was the first time that england had played in front of a Home Crowd in almost two years, with around 7,500 fans inside the home of cricket. However, they may have hoped for a better start to the season. Ollie robinson took two wickets. While James Anderson removed new Zealand Captain Kane williamson. But it was an unbeaten partnership of 132 between Conway And Henry nicholls that steered the match in the tourists favour. As we mentioned, england Bowler Ollie Robinson said he felt ashamed after he was found to have sent tweets of a racist and sexist nature eight years ago, when he was 18 and 19. He made this statement after the days play. I would like to unreservedly apologise to anyone i have offended, my Team Mates and the game as a whole in What Has been a day of Action And Awareness of discrimination in our sport. I dont want something that happened eight years ago to diminish the efforts of my team and the ecb as we tried to have meaningful action with comprehensive initiatives that i support. I will continue to educate myself, look for advice and go to the Support Network available to me to get better in this area. Absolutely. Jane, thank you the organisers of the Tokyo Olympics insist the games will go ahead, in spite ofjapans rising covid infections. Its causing uncertainty for the athletes, with just 50 days to go. But one Team Gb Competitor who is still hoping to defend his title is swimmer adam peaty. Hes been keeping a Video Diary for Bbc Breakfast in the run up to the games. That legacy is something that you cant almost create, it creates itself. Good evening, manchester. Its really nice just to be in a different place. It might sound stupid, because obviously we have been in lockdown. There is the man himself, adam peaty. The greatest Breast Stroker of all time. I think, emotionally, because there is no crowd and no noise, even the coaches arent allowed to shout because of covid, so you are literally on the block and its really, really quiet and you can hear a pin drop. Its something ive obviously got to get used to for the olympics. So todays moving day. Hey i have literally forgot my pants, my socks and spare trousers and everything else that you need in the morning. So, that was great. Hiya we are literally 30 seconds from the new house, and its very exciting. Are you excited, georgie . Very happy to be in. And you are happy too, thats good. Obviously we have got no food in the house so we are going to have to have a cheap meal. It what do you think, george . What you think we should do first . What . No way. He wants a bouncy castle, and a trampoline . So, the announcement was this week that there would be no international visitors allowed at the Tokyo Olympics, which is a little disappointing. I think every athlete around the world is just grateful to have the opportunity to race and perform. Its all about being positive and getting the best possible performance and hopefully bringing back that gold. Peekaboo ive already qualified for the olympics but its about basically putting down some good times, see where we are at and get a bit of rest. Youve grown so much, my boy. You have. And then its all about the europeans and the olympics after that. Peaty still close though. Peaty gets the gold. A most impressive swim. Job done. I love you so much. Hold it up. put it in your mouth. Thats it. Really interesting seeing behind the scenes and a lot of family live there, and often the athletes say that if everything is good at home, and in current circumstances more than ever, have to have that security and you can do your thing. Is it wrong that i got from that that i think peekaboo is one of the most fun games ever. It works. Very happy baby. Thank you to adam and his wife for letting us behind the scenes. It was lovely. We have a real difference in temperatures this morning as in glasgow it is 12 degrees and in belfast it is 14 and in liverpool and also london, it is 18 degrees. Worth mentioning that pollen levels are low across scotland and North West england but moderate for the rest of The Uk and despite the cloudy star, Uv Levels will be high or very high, more or less across the board. The forecast for today is a largely dry one. We have some showers in the northern half of the country at the moment but by no means will we all see a shower. For many, the cloud will break and it will be sunny and it will be cooler foremost than it was yesterday. Low pressure has been coming in across the south west and pushing north through the course of the night bringing showers, some of which have been heavy and thundery and as it advances nor through the course of the day, the showers will become fewer and far between and eventually fade. We start off with showers across northern england and they will migrate north and fade away. The cloud we have his breaking up allowing sunshine to develop, the best of which will be across the South East and also the North East of scotland with temperatures widely in the high teens to the Low 20s but locally, in the South East, we could hit 27. Through the evening and overnight a few showers in the Channel Islands and the midlands are most of the showers will be in the South Eastern corner where they are likely to be heavy and thundery. We also have some showers across North West Scotland And Northern ireland as well. But its not going to be a cold night, but it will be a fresher night than it was Last Night when it was quite muggy for some. We start tomorrow with showers across the South East and they will migrate further north and a bit further west as we go through the day is so still the potential for them to as we go through the day is so still the potentialfor them to be as we go through the day is so still the potential for them to be heavy and thundery. The showers in the North West are fading but a Weather Front coming in from the west will introduce more cloud and later splashes of rain and across the Board Tomorrow it will be cooler everywhere, including the South East with temperatures in the high teens, just into the Low 20s. As we head into saturday, all of the showers in the South East will pull away to the North Sea and there will be residual cloud but it will break up and there will be a fair bit of sunshine but in the west we are looking at some showers and we also have a Temperature Range from 12 in the north to 24 in the south. Sunday could see one or two showers but for most it will be dry. Have you heard of Yarn Bombing . Not before this morning. I thought, this has got to be something we do a book on and i managed to find dozens of knitters and crochets across the country, all ages and walks of Life And Talk to them about their experiences during lockdown, so its notjust experiences during lockdown, so its not just about the knitting, experiences during lockdown, so its notjust about the knitting, its about how people coped during the time. ,. ,. , time. The man appointed by borisjohnson to Help Pupils in england make up for lost learning during the pandemic, has resigned in a row overfunding. Sir Kevan Collins said the £1. 4 billion allocated to the scheme fell far short of what was needed. In a resignation statement, he says hed asked for Landmark Investment, but instead ministers had chosen a plan that is too narrow, delivered too slowly one that falls far short of whats needed. He added a half hearted approach risks failing pupils. Lets speak to our education editor, branwenjeffreys, now. She will take us through What Has happened. He was appointed to give honest advice directly to the Prime Minister about what was needed in schools to help them Catch Up. Right from his first interview with the bbc back in february, he was telling me he wanted to think about more time that could be used flexibly by schools, not necessarily for extra lessons but there could also be sport, music, otheractivities, including thinking about Childrens Confidence and well being he thought might be needed as part of rebuilding everything in education after the pandemic. I understand by last week there was a plan on the table in government which had got to the cost of around £10 billion. That was something he thought he could live with. At that stage, The Treasury, looking at the cost of that, said this is to much to sit outside our biggest Bank Spending plans. But we got yesterday was £1. 4 billion from the government on top of 1. 7 they had already spent, or already committed to spending. And the concert will be free to stream live on Sunday Evening at 7pm on the show s youtube channel. Lets Take A Look at the Travel Situation now. Lets return to one of the main series we are covering. We will do everything we can to support children who have fallen behind that was the claim made by the Prime Minister, borisjohnson, on the announcement of his new Catch Up plan for school children in england affected by the pandemic. But for the man tasked with overseeing the schemes rollout Sir Kevan Collins the Funding Boostjust didnt go far enough and he resigned yesterday. Lets get the reaction now from the former Childrens Commissioner for england, anne longfield. Good morning to you. First up, what did you make of the resignation . And more to the point, what did you make of what he said in the Resignation Letter . Riff of what he said in the Resignation Letter . , , of what he said in the Resignation Letter . , ,. , letter . Of course, it is a huge Loss And Shame letter . Of course, it is a huge Loss And Shame that letter . Of course, it is a huge Loss And Shame that Sir Letter . Of course, it is a huge Loss And Shame that Sir Kevan letter . Of course, it is a huge Loss And Shame that Sir Kevan Collins L Letter . Of course, it is a huge loss i and shame that Sir Kevan Collins has gone as he is so respected and has huge credibility from the sector and knows his stuff. He was a catch to get in the first place but he wont have done this lightly. And the scale of the difference between the proposals he has poured his energies into in recent months and What Has been put forward i think will be What Has done it for him and he has looked at what children need in the round and put forward a sensible proposal over the numbers of years and he said this will be along proposal over the numbers of years and he said this will be a long job, but he is responsive to the scale of what is needed. So he has been clear in his Resignation Letter and statements that he thinks this is a small shadow of what was needed and he had no option to resign and what we have had this week is an announcement of some money for tutoring and of course that is welcome and will be put to good news and children will benefit. But that is not the scale of Catch Up that Sir Kevan and others think is needed, and that really leads leaves a huge void in terms of what government now does and i think they need to quickly rethink. You government now does and i think they need to quickly rethink. Need to quickly rethink. You are a former childrens need to quickly rethink. You are a former Childrens Commissioner L Need to quickly rethink. You are a i former Childrens Commissioner for england, and i imagine you feel you can speakfreely, england, and i imagine you feel you can speak freely, so when you hear the government say education is either their top priority or one of their top priorities in amongst a difficult time, and then you see this sum of money, does this Lender Lie to the notion that the government is prioritising Catch Up learning for young people. It is government is prioritising Catchup Learning for young people. Learning for young people. It is two thins, learning for young people. It is two things. And learning for young people. It is two things. And the learning for young people. It is two things, and the Proof Learning for young people. It is two things, and the proof of learning for young people. It is two things, and the proof of the learning for young people. It is two l things, and the proof of the pudding is where the money goes, and if things are priorities, money follows, and clearly Money Hasnt followed, so somehow this has evaporated into some sort of nice to have thing, but there is also not been a clear understanding both of what children have been through during this period and what the scale of the loss has been, especially for disadvantaged children and what that needs to remedy the situation, so we have Seenin Remedy the situation, so we have seen in other areas that spending has needed to happen during the pandemic and furlough, none of us would not say it is money well spent, but when it gets to children and education there is so much and so many hoops that need to be jumped through, so where ever these lives, whether it is number ten or The Treasury this is a false economy. The government says it wants to level up, but this is at the heart of levelling up and not to do so will leave a Hole Generation of children potentially stranded. Ultimately, that is what matters most. Can you see a very clear Cause And Effect between money spent now and effect between money spent now and damage that would be done immediately . In one of the conversations politically is, we will hold on a few months and then we will have an idea of what else we can spend, and this is happening right now. Can spend, and this is happening riaht now. ,. , can spend, and this is happening riahtnow. ,. , right now. Yes, we wouldnt say it for other areas, right now. Yes, we wouldnt say it for other areas, would right now. Yes, we wouldnt say it for other areas, would we . I right now. Yes, we wouldnt say it for other areas, would we . We i for other areas, would we . We couldnt say that for furlough. We wouldnt say that in terms of aspects of the economy and it shouldnt be something we feel we can ponder over and come back to later in the year because that means the Money Wont be available for another few months and the Planning Wont take part for another year, so you have children who are already way behind in their reading and that is what was reported that really shocked the Prime Minister into action on this but also in terms of their emotional well being, you have half of parents saying that they know that their children have suffered emotionally and with their Mental Health because of the pandemic and that is where some of the proposals Sir Kevan was putting in around access to activities and Enrichment Activities around the school, music, sport, dance, because of Course Tutoring suits some children well and those children who are not confident learners and confident in school or dont even go to school that often wilL Need to be engaged in a different way, so its a much more rounded package that is needed, but ultimately, children are 20 of the population and in terms of looking at the assets of our society in years to come, itjust makes sense on every level to invest in them now. Stand makes sense on every level to invest in them now in them now. And longfield, thank ou for in them now. And longfield, thank you for your in them now. And longfield, thank you for your time. The only goal came early in the second half, with arsenals Bukayo Saka on hand to finish for his first international goal. There was concern for england though with Trent Alexander Arnold going off injured. Gareth southgate said theyd know how bad it was in the next 26 hours. The England Manager also expressed concern at a section of the Crowd Booing as players took a knee. I did hear it. Its not something on behalf of our black players that i wanted to hear, because it feels as though it is a criticism of them. I think we have got a situation where some people seem to think it is a political stand that they dont agree with. Thats not the reason that the players are doing it. We are supporting each other. Scotland were so close to beating The Netherlands in portugal. Jack hendry scored first and then Kevin Nisbet put scotland 2 1 up just after coming on as a substitute. However, in the 89th minute, former Manchester United forward Memphis Depay scored a brilliant free kick to equalise. Scotland were without seven players in the Squad Afterjohn Fleck tested positive for coronavirus. And ten man wales were beaten 3 0 by the World Champions france, Antoine Griezmann scoring the second after Kylian Mbappe had given them the lead in nice. Ousmane dembele then added a third. Wales had to play a significant portion of the match with ten men after Neco Williams was shown a red Card Afterjust 26 minutes. At lords, englands match against New Zealand was overshadowed by Debut Bowler Ollie robinson who apologised and said he was ashamed after it was revealed he had sent tweets of a racist and sexist nature as a teenager eight years ago. On the pitch, New Zealands debutant Devon Conway finished with an unbeaten 136, as New Zealand closed on 246 3. It was the first time that england had played in front of a Home Crowd in almost two years, with around 7,500 fans inside the home of cricket. However, they may have hoped for a better start to the season. Ollie robinson took two wickets while James Anderson removed new Zealand Captain Kane williamson. But it was an unbeaten partnership of 132 between Conway And Henry nicholls that steered the match in the tourists favour. Play resumes a little later in front of a crowd of 7500, and they presumably will have the weather for it. Completely different subject, do you knit or crochet . Absolutely not. Yesterday was the warmest day of the year so far and the temperature reached 28. 3 celsius in northolt. Today, the forecast is a Bit Cooler for most of us. The exception is across the South East where we could hit 26 or 27 and for most it will be dry after a fairly cloudy start, with the cloud breaking up in The Sunshine coming through and the showers we currently have fading. The reason we have showers is because we have been Watching low pressure come up through the south west through the course of the night which has been drifting northwards and taking the showers with it and we have one or two in Northern Ireland and northern england and some of those in south West Scotland. Those will travel northwards and fade. The cloud will thin and break and the best of The Sunshine will be across North East scotland and also South East england. Temperatures are widely in the high teens, to the Low 20s, and locally we will see maybe 25, 26 or 27 in 20s, and locally we will see maybe 25,26 or 27 in the 20s, and locally we will see maybe 25, 26 or 27 in the South East, including east anglia. As we head through the evening and overnight we see showers develop across the Channel Islands, one or two getting on across the midlands and most of them will be across the South East and they could be heavy and thundery. There will be a few showers across the North And West of Scotland And North of the North West of Northern Ireland but it will be a fresher night than the one just gone, but it wont be cold by any means. As we head into tomorrow, we start with the showers in the South East, some of them moving further north, possibly as far north as lincolnshire and a bit further west towards greater london, still the risk of thunder in them and the showers we have in the North West will fade but they will be replaced by more cloud coming in from the west later on, heralding the arrival of a new Weather Front which will introduce spots of Rain And Tomorrow the temperatures will be coming down in the South East, so for all of us we will be looking at temperatures closer to where they should be in earlyjune. On saturday we start with showers in the South East and they clear off and there will be a lot of sunshine around. Hazy at times because of the cloud, but some are Showers Courtesy of the Weather Front coming in from the west and the Temperature Ranges 12 in the north down to 26 as we come further south. On sunday we could see one or two showers but many of us will stay dry. Carol, lovely to see you, enjoy the lovely sunshine. See you soon. That| dress really is stunning. You heard her name mentioned a few times. The designer of the dress. Werejoined now by Elizabeth Emanuel, who designed the dress. Very good morning to you. Hello to you. So much history attached to the dress itself. Can you remember the first discussion you had with diana about what she wanted . I first discussion you had with diana about what she wanted . I remember when she phoned about what she wanted . I remember when she phoned up about what she wanted . I remember when she phoned up and about what she wanted . I remember when she phoned up and she about what she wanted . I remember when she phoned up and she asked i about what she wanted . I remember. When she phoned up and she asked us if we would do her the honour of making her Wedding Gown and that was when it all kicked off. It was the most important, exciting moment of our careers and then it evolved because she knew our style and she knew it was very romantic and it just went from there. She kind of trusted us to come up with something that she would really love. Elizabeth, tell me, im no expert on dresses and dont pretend to be but the train, which i believe is 25 feet long, was there a debate about whether it should be 40, 15 . How did you work out the correct length . Brute you work out the correct length . , wanted to make it as long as possible, the longest in royal history, so we went through all of our books and discovered the previous record was 23 feet, so with diana, we thought lets do better than that, lets add on an additional couple of feet and make it the very longest, and because St Pauls cathedral is so huge on the isle is so long, we wanted to make the dress very dramatic. Did isle is so long, we wanted to make the dress very dramatic. The dress very dramatic. Did you ever work the dress very dramatic. Did you ever work out the dress very dramatic. Did you ever work out how the dress very dramatic. Did you ever work out how heavy the dress very dramatic. Did you ever work out how heavy it i the dress very dramatic. Did you ever work out how heavy it was, | the dress very dramatic. Did you i ever work out how heavy it was, that dress, to actually wear . Because normal Wedding Dresses arent exactly light, but with a 25 feet train, that is a lot carry. You know what, no train, that is a lot carry. You know what. No one train, that is a lot carry. You know what, no one has train, that is a lot carry. You know what, no one has ever train, that is a lot carry. You know what, no one has ever asked i train, that is a lot carry. You know what, no one has ever asked that l what, no one has ever asked that before. I have no idea. It was pretty heavy, i can imagine, mainly because of the petticoat, because the petticoat had hundreds of metres of wheel in a timely taffeta of the dress is quite light and the pearls were tiny and so were the sequins, but there were so many thousands are sewn onto the dress. It was probably quite heavy but it was evenly distributed so it worked out fine. Do you think Princess Diana was, and please dont take this offensively at all, because i think youve said this before, that you are quite naive and young and you could kind of go for it when you are designing it. Because she wasnt yet that Fashion Icon, there was a tension on her, but we had not seen her real desire forfashion, but her, but we had not seen her real desire for fashion, but what she has bold as you were in terms of lets do whatever we want and there are no rules . I think it was all a bit of an adventure for her. She wasnt really into an adventure for her. She wasnt really into fashion an adventure for her. She wasnt really into fashion when an adventure for her. She wasnt really into fashion when we an adventure for her. She wasnt really into fashion when we met | an adventure for her. She wasnt really into fashion when we met her. I remember she first walked in and she had the sloan Sweater And Skirt on and it was not something that featured big with her and she was a Nursery School Teacher then she came to the studio is all addresses and beautiful fabrics and to the studio is all addresses and beautifulfabrics and i to the studio is all addresses and beautiful fabrics and i think she really, really enjoyed herself, and we were much the same age, only seven years that separated us, and we got on so well. And she started to really realise the power of clothes, but in those early days she had not yet become a Fashion Icon and that was to come, and i think when she wore the black dress at goldsmith hall, that is when suddenly she became a Fashion Icon. Elizabeth, i know you made the point earlier that she was attracted to the style you are already doing but im curious as to whether after the wedding you got many people coming along and saying, do you know what, i would like a Wedding Dress like dianas . Did you get people asking that . ,. ,. ,. ,. , that . Yes, we got a lot of people askin that . Yes, we got a lot of people asking that that . Yes, we got a lot of people asking that and that . Yes, we got a lot of people asking that and what that . Yes, we got a lot of people asking that and what we that . Yes, we got a lot of people asking that and what we try that . Yes, we got a lot of people asking that and what we try to i that . Yes, we got a lot of people asking that and what we try to do with a Wedding Dress was make it as complicated as possible because we did not want it appearing on the high street. Cheap copies of it. But we did get a lot of people but we never did a copy of the dress because it was so special and it was for diana and she was the most important person for us. Elizabeth, thanks and lovely important person for us. Elizabeth, thanks and lovely talking important person for us. Elizabeth, thanks and lovely talking to important person for us. Elizabeth, thanks and lovely talking to you thanks and lovely talking to you this morning and im sure a lot of people will take great delight in seeing it again being displayed after such a long time, so thank you very much. And some advice, if anyone is, when you can get married in gathering, Elizabeth Emanuel made the point there that the most important person when they are designing the dress is the bride. Her dress.
