Hello and welcome to our look ahead to what the the papers will be bringing us tomorrow. With me are susie Boniface Columnist at the daily Mirror And Martin benham, home Affairs Editor at the evening standard. It to have you both here with us from the very start. The Daily Mail says princess Dianas Brother Lord Spencer is demanding Scotland Yard investigate the bbc over her panorama interview. According to the daily telegraph, the bbc is facing a major Shake Up to ensure the Martin Bashir Scandal can never be repeated. While the guardian has the former chair of the Bbc Trust Warning against what he calls the Feeding Frenzy engulfing the corporation as ministers say they will look at how its governed, in the wake of damning findings about its 1995 interview. The times focuses on Prince Harry telling how he used drink and drugs to mask the pain he felt over his mother s death as he accused the Royal Family of total neglect. The sun also picks up on Prince Harrys interview with Oprah Winfrey saying hes left Prince Charles deeply hurt by claiming he let him suffer, as a child. While the Daily Express says Prince Harry s latest Tv Attack may have deepened the Family Rift beyond repair. The i reports Quarantine Rules are creating a legal grey area, if children miss school without permission. And the financial times quotes the Chief Executive of astrazeneca, who insists its covid 19 vaccine does has a future, as he revealed the uk had Priority Access to the jab and hit out at the armchair generals behind the attacks on the company. Lets begin with the times stop my pain over diana. We have a picture there of Prince Harry having Eye Movement Desensitisation and reprocessing therapy to help him with his mental health. Yes, its a bit like a flashback, actually committed that 1995 diana documentary. She discussed her postnatal depression, bulimia, self harm, the fact that she had lots of therapy to try to help her through it and that her family, the royalfamily were very through it and that her family, the Royal Family were very uncaring about it, that they set up her bulimia, i suppose you will be wasting that food later and she didnt get that Help And Support that anyone would really want in that anyone would really want in that situation. And here is her youngest sun during the exact same thing, and probably facing roughly the same kind of reaction in the media, which is commuter causing problems, you are making the family unhappy, how can you possibly sail the rest of it . Its like history is repeating itself, its the thing that harry often says he fears. And its interesting that on the other side of the pond, his brother is saying of that Panorama Documentary it should never see the light of day again when so much of what it did say was important to an awful lot of people who suffer the same way his mother dead. The people who suffer the same way his mother dead mother dead. The bbc saying that the Will Mother dead. The bbc saying that they will never mother dead. The bbc saying that they will never air mother dead. The bbc saying that they will never air that mother dead. The bbc saying that l they will never air that documentary of her again, that interview that Martin Bashir secured by dubious means is we now know. The Daily Express similar sort of story on its front page, martin, accusations of total Neglect Leave Reconciliation hopes in tatters as Prince Harry hurts Royal Family to the core. Yes. Hurts Royal Family to the core. Yes, i mean, hurts Royal Family to the core. Yes, i mean. I hurts Royal Family to the core. Yes, i mean. I suopose hurts Royal Family to the core. Yes, i mean, i suppose as hurts Royal Family to the core. Yes, i mean, i suppose as he hurts Royal Family to the core. Yes, i mean, i suppose as He Sat hurts Royal Family to the core. Yes, i mean, i suppose as He Sat in hurts Royal Family to the core. Yes, i mean, i suppose as He Sat in the previous i mean, i suppose as He Sat in the previous programme, who can tell how different previous programme, who can tell how different families operates, im sure different families operates, im sure that different families operates, im sure that there probably will be a will on sure that there probably will be a Will On The sure that there probably will be a Will On The part of his Father And Brother Will On The part of his Father And Brother to Will On The part of his Father And Brother to reconcile at some point if they brother to reconcile at some point if they possibly can. Having said all of if they possibly can. Having said all of fact, if they possibly can. Having said all of fact, the other point to make is that all of fact, the other point to make is that obviously Prince Harry has had a is that obviously Prince Harry has had a herh is that obviously Prince Harry has had a herb and his experience in his life with had a herb and his experience in his life with his had a herb and his experience in his life with his mother dying in the circumstances that she did following his parents very high Profile Divorce his parents very high Profile Divorce. So a lot of sympathy for him, divorce. So a lot of sympathy for him, clearly, and hes obviously going him, clearly, and hes obviously going through some terrible things, and yet. Going through some terrible things, and yet. I going through some terrible things, and yet, i think one thing talking about and yet, i think one thing talking about that and yet, i think one thing talking about that and the suffering that He Has had about that and the suffering that He Has had in about that and the suffering that He Has had in the stuff he is revealed here, has had in the stuff he is revealed here, He Has had in the stuff he is revealed here, He Has talked about it a lot, to he here, He Has talked about it a lot, to be frank. Here, He Has talked about it a lot, to be frank, and a few more details come to be frank, and a few more details come out to be frank, and a few more details come out each time, this time about the extent come out each time, this time about the extent of his drinking and so on, the extent of his drinking and so on. That the extent of his drinking and so on. That is the extent of his drinking and so on, that is one thing. I think to then on, that is one thing. I think to then start on, that is one thing. I think to then start blaming the family for it, then start blaming the family for it. He then start blaming the family for it. He did then start blaming the family for it, he did another interview very recently it, he did another interview very recently where he basically said there recently where he basically said there was no plane attached, there was some there was no plane attached, there was some blame attached and directed because was some blame attached and directed because he was some blame attached and directed because he said that his upbringing, he was because he said that his upbringing, he was trained to break the cycle of what happened to him with his father, what happened to him with his father, and that his father was basically father, and that his father was basically bringing him up in the way that he basically bringing him up in the way that he had been brought up by his parents. That he had been brought up by his parents, indirectly, criticising two generations of the Royal Family, including generations of the Royal Family, including the queen. I think thats probably including the queen. I think thats probably not very helpful in any family. Probably not very helpful in any family. To probably not very helpful in any family, to be frank. Its one thing to talk family, to be frank. Its one thing to talk about your difficulty and the struggles He Has had to overcome the struggles He Has had to overcome the terrible the struggles He Has had to overcome the terrible things that happened to him that the terrible things that happened to him that He Has had to go through, but not him that He Has had to go through, but not really very helpful i would think but not really very helpful i would think personally to drag anybody else into think personally to drag anybody else into it into, in effect, criticise else into it into, in effect, criticise the way that they have behaved criticise the way that they have behaved. , . , criticise the way that they have behaved. , . ,. , behaved. Very difficult for People L sometimes to have a right of reply, especially the royal Familys View of engaging with the media. It will probably be affected even more now. The independent, bbc Under Pressure to explain rehiring of Martin Bashir. Martin bashir taken back on as the Religion Editor for the bashir. Martin bashir taken back on as the Religion Editorfor the bbc in 2016. Yes, and james harding, former head of news saying tonight elsewhere, he had no idea at the time that Martin Bashir had everfaked had no idea at the time that Martin Bashir had ever faked those had no idea at the time that Martin Bashir had everfaked those Bank Statements in order to get that story in the first place. Its kind of a bit difficult to believe that because all he wouldve had to do is google it, or look through the Newspaper Cuttings and he wouldve found that in 1996, the Mail On Sunday exposed those bank fake Bank Statement stories. Allegations about how he had secured the Michael Jackson Interview in the George Best interview which are being aired again tomorrow in the mirror. So, there were plenty of people as well working at the bbc who were trying to blow the whistle on Martin Bashir and who knew exactly what he was like. So, he couldve known, he shouldve known him if he didnt know, that he didnt do hisjob properly or kept his ear to the ground. Ithink properly or kept his ear to the ground. I think generally when there are bigger organisations like the bbc, probably, you know, Martin Bashirwas bbc, probably, you know, Martin Bashir was probably hired by committee then rather than a person, which is probably where the problem came in. He shouldnt have been rehired, he was known to have lied to his bosses back in 1996 about these Bank Statements before finally abetting admitting he had faked them. Some people probably quite glad not to have that gigantic event because of the covert restrictions. There are plenty of excuses, just briefly. Yelena exactly, no in there, sorry. I think its worth pointing out, think im right and think about that you can have big Weddings Commute still cant tap dancing, we have still cant tap dancing, we have still got to have social distancing from east of the wear masks indoors, so its not exactly a free for all. No, not much fun from it . I dont know what sort of dancing it up to do, socially distanced line dancing, possibly. The ft, lashing out at armchair generals attacking astrazeneca. This is pascal, the ceo. Yes, astrazeneca, its worth bearing in mind, whatever you think about vaccines or big pharma, they pushed ahead with the vaccine and then sold it at cost, pretty much to the entire world. Some of the other companies have not done that. Thea;r companies have not done that. They did net companies have not done that. They did get government companies have not done that. They did get government investments, though, didnt they . Lets remind ourselves of that. They couldve charged more than they did, and they have done a good thing, and they have taken one for the team, basically. Its affected their Share Price that they didnt charge more for it. The fact that there are people saying you should donate, the fact that you have any kind of vaccine at all even if it was only half effective, and its much more effective, ive got one astrazeneca and my arm, im waiting for The One, i think its an amazing achievement for all of those who worked on all the vaccine projects. This is the best pandemic in human history, however much we argue about it, you know, its going much better than the Black Death so far. I much better than the Black Death so far. , much better than the Black Death so far. ,. ,. ,. , far. I have had two and i have never been happier far. I have had two and i have never i been happier to see something coming on me with a needle. Martin, there have been so me concerns about this vaccine can have it there, that sort of Stop Start shall we shant we use it because of blood clots. A maker have, but again, for most people, the risk of that was far outweighed as all the medical evidence showed by the risk of getting covid. So it made much more sense for most people, unless you are immunocompromised to have the vaccine, it has saved an awful of lives around the world. And it received in europe, the supply of vaccines and some claims about its efficacy there seems to be a lot of politics going on there, and as he says there, the reason that the uk got preferential treatment was that the government had struck a Priority Deal with the university before astrazeneca became involved in this, and thats why, that basically we, as a country, where swift, which is as a country, where swift, which is a well known fact as its been well discussed, we are much more agile and fast at getting the Vaccine Contract struck with astrazeneca the on the urban union European Union was in this case, and they did catch some flack from europe over that. Lets finish with holidays, quit quick comment from both of you. If you do go to an ember list country, you do go to an ember list country, you have to come back and isolate. Yes. It makes sense, doesnt touch . To not yes. It makes sense, doesnt touch . To not have yes. It makes sense, doesnt touch . To not have a yes. It makes sense, doesnt touch . To not have a fine so as to encourage them, and therefore send their kids encourage them, and therefore send their kids to encourage them, and therefore send their kids to school when they shouldnt their kids to school when they shouldnt be doing, that is obvious. With so shouldnt be doing, that is obvious. With so people can go on holiday. I think with so people can go on holiday. I think most with so people can go on holiday. I think most of us are desperate to have think most of us are desperate to have one. To want to holiday more than you want certainly you would want to. To want to holiday more than you want your. To holiday more than you want your kids to catch up worn on what they missed last year . Exactly. If you were complaining that your school went in school enough leicester, i think taking them out of school for holiday and subsequent isolation which you know you have to do before you go is incredibly bad. I think anybody who is having a foreign Holiday Right about now is behaving selfishly and without, i know its an unpopular view, but without due recognition, so the fact that last year both waves of hope that this country suffered were seated by foreign travel. The first risk years in Northern Italy over last winter, and then the Summer Package holidays to then the Summer Package holidays to the med in the summer which the summer when people came back and went to school through september. So i think going abroad just for the next year to as a Daft Idea because there are 7 Billion people on the planet, perhaps this year we might get A Billion of them vaccinated. They will all be in the wealthy north, but when you want to sunny Sunshine Breaks and parts of the developing world are places that are slightly poorer or less well off than europe for your holidays, then you are potentially going to be bringing back in other variants, bearing in mind that only half the population so far as vaccinated. You dont mind you population so far as vaccinated. You dont mind you sticking your neck out with being a popular, thats why we have you back. We like you. Dont take your kids on holiday, folks. Hello and welcome to the Film Review with me, mark kermode, rounding up the best movies available in cinemas and in the home. Uk cinemas reopen this week, with films that have previously been available on streaming services such as minari, mortal Kombat And Raya and the last dragon, playing alongside new releases like those who wish me dead. Whyd they put you in a Fire Tower . Well, imjust lucky, i guess. Angelina jolie plays Smoke Jumper hannah, Combating Forest Fires in montana. Hannah is a wild card, haunted by guilty memories of a mission in which she misjudged the wind, with grim consequences. Having been sent to spend a season alone atop a Fire Tower, their path conveniently crosses with that of a young boy, lost and On The Run after his father was targeted by sinister hit men, played by Aidan Gillen and nicholas hoult. Give Em Somethingj else to worry about. Loosely adapted from a novel by Michael Koryta and Directed By taylor sheridan, whose credits include the oscar nominated screenplay for hell or high water, this is solidly pedestrian stuff a by the numbers, Box Ticking Affair spiced up by shoot outs, Lightning Strikes and some very impressive fire escapes. We cant go through that. That eats everything in its Path None of it is particularly believable, withjolie looking far too much like a Movie Star to convince as a battle scarred firefighter. Still, her character is far more convincing than the hit men, who were essentially upmarket, B Movie caricatures, killing everyone they meet whilst complaining about the scenery in entertainingly daft fashion. Hes still on duty, you can try him on your radio. On the other hand, you have Medina Senghore stealing the show as the most indominantly badass mother to be since Francis Mcdormands marge gunderson in fargo. No masterpiece, then, but distracting popcorn fair Tailor Made to be seen on the big screen. On the subject of indomitable women, Sigourney Weaver achieved iconic status as ripley in the alien movies, a role which earned her an Academy Award nomination. Shes had two further oscar nods for Working Girls and gorillas in the midst, and starred in such varied fair as ghostbusters, the Ice Storm and the Cult Sci Fi spoof galaxy quest. In her new movie my New York year, from the 2014 memoir byjoanna rakoff, Weaver Plays Old School literary agent margaret, whose most high Profile Client is reclusive Catcher In The Rye author, jd salinger. Well . I like it. Really . But what do you make of it . Im not sure what you mean. Well, its not a kids book, is it . No, no. Its about kids for grown ups. Its about female friendship. But will adults buy a book about kids . Can i sell it . Into margarets agency comesjoanna, a College Grad played by once upon a time in Hollywood Costar Margaret qualley, who has never read salinger but aspires to be a poet. Shes set to work dealing with salinger s fan mail, ensuring that no one gets to the writer, while keeping an eye out for anything suspicious. Over phone dont get stuck answering the phone, joanna. Youre a poet. What follows is a whimsical drama in which Salinger Befriends Joanna over the phone and encourages her to concentrate on her writing, despite margarets fierce insistence that she must never telljerry that shes a writer. There are echoes of the Master Slave Relationship at the heart of the devil wears prada, although this has none of the bite of that acerbic novel turned film. Instead, it settles for something more Twee A Nostalgic World observed with Dewy Eyed Wonder by character who, although based on real life, never seems real. Is it on . But weaver has fun as the imperious Grande Dame who cannot abide computers and whose withering look is worth the price of admission. Its in cinemas now. A decade ago, saw 3d, the seventh film in the torture packed franchise, promised to be the final instalment. Fat chance. After 2017s jigsaw, we now have a ninth movie, Portentously Entitled Spiral from the book of saw. What is that . Play me. Hello, detective banks. Directed by darren lynn bousman, who held episodes two, three and four, this new chapter stars chris rock, promising to do for the Saw Franchise what 48 hours did for Buddy Cop movies. Hes zeke, a Wisecracking Detective whose dad, played by samuel ljackson, was a legend in the force. I couldve killed you. Faced with a Jigsaw Style Copycat targeting the police, loner zeke, whos watching his back after turning in a dirty cop, finds himself paired with a wide eyed rookie played by max minghella. Detective banks. Zeke initially hates the rookie because, hey, thats what cliched movie cops do. But gradually, he comes to respect him because, hey, thats what cliched movie cops do. Based on a script that has been polished by rock and remember, there are some things you just Cant Polish Spiral seems to be pulling in two different directions. On The One hand, theres rock doing his Post Eddie Murphy procedural shtick, and on the other, theres the elaborate Set Pieces in which people get horribly tortured by ridiculously complicated machinery while a puppet explains the plot on a tape. Whens the last time| you saw your father . The Saw Franchise may be predicated upon these Set Pieces, but it would help if they actually made sense and didnt leave you wondering a, how the killer designed, built and then set up all this machinery without anyone noticing, and b, what exactly the point of the traps is, particularly one that seems to offer the victim the choice between death and, er, death, without even the possibility of cake. Most importantly, for all its grotesquery, nothing in spiral is scary, with its Plot Twists provoking not shocks, but groans. Its in cinemas now. Meanwhile over on netflix, we have Army Of The Dead, the latest from zack snyder, who recently scored an online hit with his directors cut ofjustice league. Is there anybody else here who hasnt killed a zombie . Well, we all know the basics. Zombies, shamblers, the undead whatever you want to call them when it comes to killing them, its all about the brain. One comes at you, shoot in the brain. Its that simple. Any questions . Yes. What if i took a Big Rock and smashed it into the head . Would that work . Best known for such comic Book Inspired Movies as 300, Watchmen And Batman v superman, snyder cut his teeth on a remake of george romeros zombie classic dawn of The Dead. In Army Of The Dead, he conjures a satirical world in which a Zombie Outbreak has been confined to the Walled Off Enderongs of las vegas, a place thats always been hell on earth, but is now doubly so. Shh. With a nuclear strike looming, muscle bound Dave Bautista leads a ragtag troop back into vegas to raid a vault in one of the casinos, and also to try to save a mother who went missing in Sin City some weeks earlier. Its not too late to go back. With so many zombie movies in the past few years, its unsurprising that Army Of The Dead, of which a prequel and a Spin Off Anime Style Series are on the way, seems so unoriginal, lifting riffs from everything from romeros movies to World War Z to return of the living dead part iii. Whats more surprising is just how much snyder and his Co Writers have pinched not only from John Carpenters escape from New York and escape from la, but also from james camerons 1986 gem aliens, which similarly spliced genres to altogether more gripping effect. Bickering squad entering a deserted area full of temporarily dormant beasties . Check. Lets remember the team. Parent Child Jeopardy Reconciliation theme . Check. Thats crossing the line. Duplicitous Company Man who cant be trusted . Check. Foolhardy return to Rescue Someone as the Clock Counts down to a Nuclear Blast . Check. The difference is that while aliens was a nail biting combination of Horror Movie and war movie, this not very humorous Horror Heist Hybrid settles for altogether more goofy splatter thrills, contempt to throw blood and entrails around without ever getting beneath the surface of the story. But when it comes to snyders films, surface is everything, as is length, with Army Of The Dead clocking in at a Bloated Two and a half hours when it could have been in and out in 89 minutes. Oh, and note to Film Makers putting a Gurning Cameo by trumps former Press Secretary Sean spicer in your movie is never a good idea. Ever. Army of The Dead is on netflix now. Ill leave you with news of rare beasts, in which star of stage, Screen And Pop charts Billie Piper Ads Writer Director to her cv. Even though i feel scared and angry, i still love and respect myself. A post fleabag Era Tale of dysfunctional male female relationships teamed with humour and a hint of horror, its an ambitious work boosted by an exceptional cast. So, why are you single, pete . I find women intolerable. Right. Piper plays mandy, a single mum living with her own mum, played by kerry fox. When mandy goes out on a date with uptight workmate pete, played by leo bill, he tells her that he finds women intolerable, but he refuses to be without one something that should send her running for the hills. Instead, she embarks upon a masochistic relationship with pete, while simultaneously trying to reconcile with her selfish father, played by david thewlis, and to raise her anxiously twitchy son. Every wife, respect your husband there are stylistic echoes of Craig Robertss eternal beauty, in which Piper And Thewlis costarred, both in the mix of Tragedy And Comedy and in the heightened theatrical reality which occasionally tips over into fantasy. I want a man at times, this Super Stylised Performative approach can seem distracting, and some audiences will struggle to engage with the characters. But the examination of modern Gender Roles is intriguing, entertaining and honest. And while mandy may be an uncertain character riddled with self doubt, Pipers Direction is bold and confident, suggesting that a future career behind the camera awaits. Rare beasts is in cinemas and online now. Thats it for this week. Thanks for watching the Film Review. Stay safe, and ill see you next week. Howd you get in here . Are you forgetting who the landlord is . Yeah, but that doesnt give you the right to just walk in here anytime you want. Renters got rights. You start paying some rent, you can get some rights. Well, friday, for many of us was an absolute write off. Blowing a gale, Heavy Rain, surely the weather is going to improve. And, yes, it is. The low pressure is finally moving out into the north sea. It brought some really Heavy Rain to wales, for example, and some ferocious gusts of wind. Heres an example, 89 mph in exposed places in the isle of wight. More typically it was around 60mph or more, so very windy for the time of year, and of course, very wet. You can see where low pressure is early in the morning on saturday. Pretty stormy out to sea there. But for many of us, it is calming down. In fact, so much so that across parts of scotland and northern ireland, with clearing skies, there will be a touch of frost. Anyway, heres the important bit, Saturdays Headline drier, brighter and less windy for all of us. And this is what it looks like for the morning onwards. It will brighten up across many western areas right from the word go. There will be some showers around, particularly in the east of the country, maybe in the south, and there will still be a keen wind blowing out of the northwest, and itll be chilly 11 celsisus in newcastle, 1a or 15 degrees elsewhere. You know what . Well take it after that nasty friday. Now, heres the forecast Saturday Night into sunday so these guys are clearing again, its going to be a chilly morning on sunday. You cant miss this, the winds spinning around behind me. Thats the next area of low pressure heading our way. Heres the headline for sunday you may want to look away now here it is Rain And Wind again. So, this unsettled weather continues. Heres the good news, across some eastern areas there will be sunshine in the morning. Probably into the afternoon as well. And this Weather Front Wont reach western areas until later on in the day, but the rain will be accompanied by Gale Force winds as well. So, not a great second half of the weekend. Eventually, that Weather Front will sweep towards the east later on in the afternoon and into the evening hours. That low pressure is here to stay, it will park itself over us on monday and tuesday, and that means that the weather will remain unsettled into next week. So, you guessed it, showers to come and remaining cool into next week. This is Bbc News with the latest headlines for viewers in the uk and around the world.
