Hamas officials for their part quoted as saying they have secured guarantees from israel regarding the two flashpoints in jerusalem regarding the two Flashpoints Injerusalem that helped to trigger this crisis. The situation in the mosque of the old city and also in the neighbourhood, is really officials are quoted as saying those claims are nonsense. They have offered no such guarantees. We understand that egyptian officials will be arriving in gaza and in israel fairly soon to discuss the fine print. And clearly those negotiations will be important. The Bottom Line is that the two sides have agreed to stop these exchanges that have been going on for ii exchanges that have been going on for 11 days. Even after the announcement from the Israeli Side there were further Air Strikes on gaza. Also rockets fired into israel. For a brief time Israels Airport was closed which i think is indicative of the Share Fragility of the situation at the moment. But the guns are going to fall silent. 0f the moment. I think each side understood that there was not a whole lot more to be gained. I think hamas had fired 5000 rockets into israel. And obviously the destruction within gaza is pretty extensive and extreme. So from a Hamas Standpoint there wasnt much more to be gained and there was plenty to to be lost. And from an israeli standpoint there diminishing returns were continuing to carry out strikes from outside which might have marginally added to the destruction in terms of hamas capabilities but not in a significant way. 0bviously at the same time could run a high cluster of israel in terms of international public opinion. But at The End of this are we any closer to the two State Solution which supposedly is the aim of all of the International Diplomacy around this vexed question . Ila. I think there is a need on part of the israeli government to do some serious outreach and serious discussions about how to address concerns that have been raised weve been hearing for the last year, israeli, arab concerns about the lack of law in order in their towns, the lack of investment and infrastructure. Itll be very interesting to see what initiatives are likely to be a physical action coming up within israel. This will be i think real issues to watch over the coming months. The coming months. And so while the Cease Fire is much welcome and we should, a symbol of good news the bigger question is what is coming, whats gonna happen, will the Cease Fire be broken and will indeed international monitors be allowed into gaza . Internally in gaza, of course we have upcoming elections. So brokering a Cease Fire could bode well for hamas but it also could bode not so well because people have reached a breaking point. Thursday brought us an unusually deep area of low pressure for the time of year. It brought some very powerful looking seas to the coastline of newquay in cornwall. There, look at the pretty impressive waves battering the coastline here. And the strongest winds were around the coasts of south West England and wales. The strongest gusts were well into the 60s To Low 70s of miles an hour, peaking with a gust of 73 mph in Pembrey Sands in south wales. And of course it was pretty wet as well. The wettest weather is across this central swathe of the uk. 36 mm for north wales. But in sharp contrast to that, it was mainly dry across north west scotland, and there was barely a drop of rain across the south east. The rain will continue to be variable on into Friday Thanks to our familiar slow moving friend, our area of low pressure here. So, weve got rain at the moment. The rains getting heavier, the winds a bit stronger across eastern scotland.
