From people at work for years. The Ason-'>SeAson'>Premier League SeAson might not even be over, but the Transfer Speculation is starting. England Captain Harry Kane is understood to be frustrated at tottenham, with widespread reports over his long term future. We are live at the royal horticultural Societys Brand new garden, Rhs Bridgwater in salford. Its opening has been delayed by a year because of covid but it opens today and looks blooming marvellous. Good morning from the top of the London Eye. What a view on a gin clear view, you can see a0 kilometres in every direction as far as Windsor Castle. Many of us starting dry with some sunshine but through the day, further showers developing some with hail. All the details later in the programme. Its Tuesday 18th may. Our top story. Ministers are stepping up calls for people to book a Coronavirus Vaccination as soon as theyre offered one, amid increasing concern over the indian variant. Its now spread to 86 local councils, with more than 2,000 confirmed cases across the uk. It comes as Lockdown Restrictions were eased in most of Britain Yesterday to allow more social mixing. Jon donnison reports. A lovely day. A lovely day, and for those out on the town indoors in manchester Last Night One thats been a Long Time Coming. A chance to get the glad rags on, or maybe just a pint with the pooch. Do you know what . Its just amazing. You know, we spent so long, like. Even being outside is not the same thing as Being Inside. And just the atmosphere, people, live music its brilliant, i love it. Indoor soft play areas for children are also now open welcome news for parents in hull. Its amazing, just that he gets to be around other children and interact. Hes not had that for the last year so, yeah, its great for him. Wales and scotland have also seen their restrictions eased and, in cardiff, the bingo was back. It made me feel great to be able to. Ive missed it so much. Its not as if i even win but at the same time as its easing restrictions, the government in westminster says its urging caution, amid growing concerns about the new indian variant of the virus. The Vaccination Programme can give us confidence, but we must be alert to new variants that could jeopardise the advances that weve made. In bolton, which has the highest Infection Rates in england, the Vaccine Programme has been stepped up, with long queues forming outside Vaccination Centres. Government says there are now 86 local authorities with at least five cases of the indian variant. Bedford is the latest place to roll out Surge Testing, and some say the government needs to slow down. My feeling is that we really need tojust be a little bit more cautious in the speed at which we open up, and keep a very close eye on this variant. But while the restrictions weve all lived under are being eased now, it could be several weeks before we know what impact that has on the numbers. Jon donnison, Bbc News. There has been a significant rise in cases of the indian variant in some areas of the North West of england. One hotspot is blackburn, where our reporter Phil Mccann is this morning. Good morning. Tell us what the authorities are doing there . Good mornin , authorities are doing there . Good morning, louise. Authorities are doing there . Good morning, louise. This authorities are doing there . Good morning, louise. This is authorities are doing there . Good morning, louise. This is one authorities are doing there . 13mm morning, louise. This is one of the things they are doing, this pop up Vaccination Centre which has been dropped off overnight by a lorry in a Car Park it in blackburn, part of a Car Park it in blackburn, part of a surge of vaccinations in blackburn and bolton. The two boroughs which have the highest number of people with the indian variant anywhere in the country. Yesterday the Health Secretary Matt hancock said anybody having doubts and concerns about getting the virus, just look at bolton. The reAson for that is because he said the majority of people in hospital in bolton were eligible for the virus but had the vaccine and had not had it. Its not known whether that is because there are barriers in the way or if they are reluctant. That is the thinking behind these pop up centres. We saw long queues in bolton yesterday, but the Health Secretary said you should only turn up secretary said you should only turn up if you are eligible for it, over 37 or if you have long term underlying health conditions. The logic is that they are still going to follow the clinical advice to make sure people in those more vulnerable categories get their second dose, so they have never maximum protection, rather than rolling it out to everybody in all Age Groups. So that they have maximum protection. We might see some more long queues outside these centres later on. Centres later on. Thank you very much. Police in gloucester say theres enough evidence to begin Excavation Work at a cafe, as they search for the body of a suspected victim of Serial Killer, Fred West. Officers are investigating the disappearance of 15 year old Mary Bastholm who worked at the cafe before she went missing in 1968. Will batchelor reports. Hes been dead for more than a quarter of a century, but Fred Wests crimes still cast a shadow over gloucester. Earlier this month, Police Officers began an initial search of this cafe in the town where west was a regular customer and where he carried out Building Work in the late 1960s. It was also the cafe where 15 year old Mary Bastholm worked as a waitress. She was last seen in 1968 while waiting for a bus nearby. West was charged with murdering 12 women and girls in 199a, many of them buried at his house on cromwell street. He took his own life before he could stand trial. Although never charged with marys murder, many people in gloucester suspected his involvement. Now the Police Search of the Cafe Basement has provided enough evidence to prompt Excavation Work, which is due to start tomorrow and likely to last several weeks. Marys family have been kept abreast of developments and are said to be happy at the thought of potentially solving the mystery of her disappearance. Will batchelor, Bbc News. Our reporter Andrew Plant is at the site this morning. Good morning. What makes the police think that this lead is well worth pursuing, do you think . Goad pursuing, do you think . Good morning. Pursuing, do you think . Good morning, dan. It has been a i pursuing, do you think . Good. Morning, dan. It has been a Long Time Coming, more than 50 years since mary disappeared, she was last seen not far away from here at the Bus Stop in gloucester when she was 15 years old, she was carrying a Monopoly Board in a Carrier Bag and was off to see her boyfriend for the day and that was the last time she was seen. There was a massive Police Search at the time to try and find out what had happened to her that there was no trace. She was waitress at this cafe, and one of her customers was a builder called Fred West. Fast forward 25 years, and his crimes started to come to light in the early 90s, charged with 12 murders. At that point people began to put two and two together and wonder whether Fred West had had something to do with Marys Disappearance but with but there was never enough evidence to search this cafe. A couple of weeks ago, a Documentary Team who are making a Documentary Team who are making a documentary about the crimes of Fred West found something, we didnt know what happened at the time, to merit police attention. Last night, police said they found some kind of blue material in the corner of the seller here and we know that mary had been wearing a blue coat when she vanished. They also said they found a structural anomaly in the basement here and they say that Warrants Excavation and they will start digging in the basement of this cafe in wednesday. Marys family have been informed and say they are happy about what is happening here and finally the possibility, more than five decades after she disappeared, that they might finally solve the mystery of what happened to mary. Thank you. President biden has said the us is working to secure a ceasefire after more than a week of violence between israel and palestinian militants. More than half of the single Use Plastic items thrown away around the world are made from materials produced byjust 20 companies, according to new research. The authors of the study say the firms should take more responsibility for the harm caused by the waste. Our Science Editor David shukman reports. It all begins with oil pumped from underground, the start of a plasticjourney. In refineries and processing plants, the oil is turned into the raw materials for plastic. And the new research finds that of those destined to make single use items, half are produced by just 20 companies. Those ingredients are sold to manufacturers who make everything from plastic cups to plastic bottles. Most of them used just once and then thrown away, often polluting the environment. The study says the original producers need to take responsibility for that. The future of the plastic Waste Crisis really sits in the hands ofjust 20 companies who account for more than half of the waste we generate. We need to go after the tap to turn off the tap of Fossil Fuel plastics, and we need to create plastics from recycled materials. The producers say they are trying to recycle as much plastic as possible and that theyre investing in new ways to do that. They say its not as easy as it looks and that anyway, we all depend on plastic to keep ourselves safe and to keep our food fresh. But pressure is mounting on the companies involved to do more. These rivers are choked with plastic waste and at the moment theres No End In Sight to scenes like this. David shukman, Bbc News. We could not have picked a better day The View from the top of the London Eye is a stunning, you can hear on a clear day on a0 kilometres as every direction, as far out as Windsor Castle. We have the Houses Of Parliament clearly in view there, and the Elizabeth Tower, more commonly known as big ben. Then if you cross the road, you can see that wHite lorry, Portcullis House right next to it, and the wHite building behind is the treasury, next to that is the foreign commonwealth office, and then the building with the green roof, that is the ministry of defence. Behind that is st jamess park. Then you can make out Buckingham Palace and behind that, Hyde Park. It is stunning. The top of the London Eye is where you want to be today. A Weather Front in the South West will introduce some heavy and thundery showers with some hail and another Weather Front is sinking south across the far north of scotland. That will bring in cloud and further patchy rain. In between, starting off on a not particularly cold Night But Sunshine around, but watch those showers develop as we go through the day, particularly from the system coming across the South West. There will still be some showers across Northern England and Southern Scotland but fewer and further between the temperature will beat nine to 15 degrees. Through the evening and overnight, eventually the showers will fade but the picture in the South West is going to mean that the feature scoots across southern counties, rings and the feature in the north is sinking south. Temperatures close to freezing in prone frost spots. Wednesday, The Rain Turned Patchy across scotland, sunshine and showers behind it. Once again, the front in the south clears away and we will see further showers, particularly in the east where they are likely to be heavy and thundery once again with some hail. And then overnight it changes as an area of low pressure comes our way, and on thursday, all of this rain is sweeping in from the west across most areas during the day. Accompanying that will be strengthening winds. That will be with us on friday before it clears away. Some of us will have some gales. The weather fairly unsettled. A campaign to get 500 big companies to pledge to do more to improve inclusion for people with disabilities has finally met its goal after two years of hard work. Nina has the details. Imagine hiding something really important about yourself for Years Forfear of being Left Behind or losing yourjob. That was Caroline Caseys reality. So she pledged to do something about it. Worldwide more than 1. 3 billion people are currently living with a disability. The Equality Act defines this as, a physical or mental impairment which has some form of impact on Peoples Day to day lives. Seven percent of the Worlds Board members, so senior business leaders, have a disability but one in five of those dont feel comfortable telling people about it. That reluctance reflects a real fear that people will get Left Behind, or even lose theirjobs. And the reality is most people develop their disability during their working lives, not before. People like steve who runs a recruitment company. I had a skiing accident. And i very nearly lost my life, but didnt, obviously. And i ended up paralysed with a complete fracture, so it went right through my spinal cord, so i feel nothing below what is technically termed t10, t11, which isjust below the belly button, basically. It didnt occur to me that i would be any different in the Workplace Or Thought of any differently. But when an older colleague, ex colleague, said to me, what are you going to do . And i told them, they said, well, you cant. And i said, why not . And they said, youre in a wheelchair. I wont say the words i used, but, isaid, yes, i know. And he said, people wont see you any more, they wont take you seriously. 20 of people are disabled. 1a of people who Go To University are disabled. And theyre capable of doing the same job as somebody who is able. They may even show qualities that able bodied people may not have. Overcoming challenges, resilience, creative idea generation, you know, things like that. I can tell you, you know, when youre in a wheelchair, you do have to find solutions to problems sometimes. Steve isnt alone. At the same time he was coming to terms with his disability, Caroline Casey was stood where i am now telling breakfast about her goal. I hid my disability. Im registered blind. Right through when i was working with accenture. I never told anybody. And i think people are fascinated why. Or how i got through. But its not the how, its the why. You would never know that i was visually impaired, youd never know i couldnt see you, you look like George Clooney to me. We need 500 ceos, the biggest ceos in the world to say, i care about disability, im willing to commit to resources, to put it equally on my agenda like i do other issues, not make it be the poor cousin. Today, Carolines Goal has been reached. 500 companies have signed up. They collectively employ 20 Million people in 36 countries around the world. So, how will they actually make a change . Theyve agreed to set up networks of workers, Increase Employment opportunities, make sure their products and websites are adapted. Plus theyll put together more Ad Campaigns featuring people with disabilities. This campaign is called the Valuable 500 because caroline says its valuable to all parties, that failing to include those with disabilities means losing out on a world of talent. Well talk to caroline herself a little later. As she said, its notjust about right in the workplace when you are disabled and being perceived in a different way, but also about making money. There are more products on the market for vegan people and people who own a dog than there are for people with disabilities and there are so many more people there. She looks kind of terrifying, she is kind of girl who getsjob done with all the hand sanitiser, face coverings and temperature checks, it wasnt exactly Business As Usual when theatres reopened Last Night. But make no mistake, the show did go on. After a long wait, audiences returned to auditoriums across britain to watch everything from the mousetrap to april in paris. Ben boulos reports from the west end. Its been months since any of us have experienced live theatre like this. Cos, baby, im a Hit we dont even know it so admit. But across england, scotland and wales, stages are beginning to burst into life as audiences can return once again. Everyone is so excited. We know the show, so were just kind of Fine Tuning at the moment. And everyone is happy to be together. But when the curtain finally goes up and you hear the audience coming into the theatre, thats going to be a special moment. We love to perform, we love entertaining people, thats obviously our passion and thats what we love to do. And its been hard not being able to do that but finally were getting back to it which is an amazing thing, so, yeah. Yeah, just missing the crowd. Hearing the cheer when youve just done a number and you hear the cheer, and the energy you get | back as well when youre running | through the audience, you see the smiles on peoples faces. I as Lockdown Restrictions ease, agatha christies the mousetrap was one of the first to reopen. The classic whodunnit said to be the worlds longest Running Show is back after what has felt like the worlds longest interval. Well, no Detective Skills are needed to spot the experience is different from before. Hand sanitiser, the audience having to wear masks, and temperatures checked on arrival. Thank you. Inside, the Audience Sit socially distanced, and at the interval, drinks are brought to the seats. Everywhere, clues that remind us, the pandemic is still not over. Obviously, no ones ever been in the situation before, so we are learning all the time. With the mousetrap particularly, what weve done is we have engaged two separate star casts, so that, which i dont think anyones ever done before, weve done it as a precaution so that if someone were to test positive in one of the casts, we have another cast that can step in straightaway. And the audience, delighted to be back. Magical. Amazing. Utterly magical. So amazing. I got quite emotional going inside. Just getting inside a theatre was really special. What have you missed about the theatre in the last year and a bit . The whole communal feeling of Being In a house together, enjoying the same thing at the same moment, i think. Laughing with somebody else. Theatre is an important part of the uk economy. Each year, normally 3A Million people go to see a show. Through tickets, travel and restaurants, that generates over £1 billion in vat for the government. And the sector employs almost 300,000 people. On stage, backstage and supplying things like costume and props. Despite this weeks reopenings, there are fears there could be an unwelcome plot twist. The bigger shows like matilda, Hamilton And Lion king are more expensive to rage, and plan to return only are more expensive to stage, and plan to return only after the next easing of rules when they can fill the seats without social distancing. Thats expected on the 21st Ofjune but if its delayed, there will be questions about whether the shows can go on. Ben boulos, Bbc News. At least it is back yeah, fantastic. Its a slightly chillier start to the morning than we saw this time yesterday. Another day of sunny spells and some showers on the cards. Now, lots of dry weather around this morning. There is some cloud, but it will thin and break and well see some spells of Brightness And Sunshine come through. It wont be too long before those showers also start to develop through the late morning especially into the afternoon and some of those showers could be heavy, they could be thundery, some hail and some lightning possibly involved, too. But there will be some brighter spells in between and in the best of that brightness, temperatures will get as high as 15 or 16 Degrees Celsius still on the low side of average for this time of year. At least the winds are fairly light. Now, as we head through this evening and overnight, again, the showers likely to fade away and well see a mostly dry night to follow, temperatures down to around six to eight Degrees Celsius generally. On wednesday, still some showers developing perhaps fewer than on tuesday. There will also be some sunshine around. The problem is that people who have not had their vaccination i thinking, do i really need to have it now everything seems to be getting better . Everything is to returning to normal, we are all ok. We are seeing some of the Vaccination Slots in a general practice just not Vaccination Slots in a general practicejust not being Vaccination Slots in a general practice just not being filled. People saying they will come and they dont. Thats never happened earlier in the pandemic and now we are seeing that change and you just think that some people i thinking, you know, ive been into lines, i dont think will go. What we do know, if that rate of vaccination in the under 50s goes from 80 to 90 down to 50 , that will double the number of admissions later in the year. That is why it is so important for everyone to think, no, the pandemic is still here, still around, the virus is poised to come back again if we take our foot off the pedal at all. So the vaccination has to continue, even though, as you say, it looks great and things are slowly returning to normal. It say, it looks great and things are slowly returning to normal. It looks as thou. H slowly returning to normal. It looks as though the slowly returning to normal. It looks as though the government slowly returning to normal. It looks as though the government are slowly returning to normal. It looks| as though the government are quite keen to use the situation in bolton to try to guard against some complacency yes, and i think bolton has had a really bad pandemic and its great to see the queues of people to have the vaccination, but also the sage testing, the indian variant we know is probably more infection Surge Testing. We dont know if people escape immunity if the variant will escape immunity. That is still to be found out but while it is that is still to be found out mt while it is rising there is obviously that concern and it has a lot of impact on the 21st Ofjune because a step three, the one we have just had yesterday, there is an increase, we know that, there will be at hospital admissions, in about august, but if you and step four and you have a variant then it goes into the unknown and that is why they are trying to hold that back. I the unknown and that is why they are trying to hold that back. Trying to hold that back. I dont know the answer trying to hold that back. I dont know the answer to trying to hold that back. I dont know the answer to this trying to hold that back. I dont i know the answer to this question, which is probably why im asking it, but in terms of expected cases to go up, what about numbers of deaths . Would it have to be numbers of deaths and pressure on the nhs to challenge the date of the 21st Of June . Challenge the date of the 21st Of June . , ,. , june . Yeah, it will be the number of cases itself. June . Yeah, it will be the number of cases itself, it june . Yeah, it will be the number of cases itself, it isnt june . Yeah, it will be the number of cases itself, it isnt quite june . Yeah, it will be the number of cases itself, it isnt quite so cases itself, it isnt quite so important particularly in younger people. That is just the kind important particularly in younger people. That isjust the kind of benchmark of finding out how it compares to before and what is going to happen later. There is always that delay, so if the number of cases go up we know it will eventually lead up to hospitalisations, especially as you get into the older group. Some people havent been vaccinated, vaccinated, havent got that coverage, we dont know if there is 100 effectiveness in the older group, there is still the vulnerable group, there is still the vulnerable group because the Vaccination Isnt 100 effective. By now, lots of people should have had it and that isnt really any indication not to have the vaccine, even if you had a slight reaction from the first, you must have the second. It really is only major anaphylactic reaction. The number of hospitalisations and deaths, with this new variant, the number of contacts we all make, whether it be Immunity Wanes, as well. That is still to be found out after you have had the vaccination or the actual infection itself, how quickly does the Immunity Wane . All of these are unknown so the number of these are unknown so the number of deaths and the number of hospitalisations will go up but we dont think it will be anywhere near the january or at last spring so thatis the january or at last spring so that is real reassurance but it is still unknown at the moment, hence not complete ecstasy that, hey, we have, we are over it. By no means, we have to wait until this time next year before we can say that. We have to wait until this time next year before we can say that. Some of our Viewers Year before we can say that. It was a big Day Yesterday as spectators were officially allowed to return to sporting events. There were limited Capacity Rules in place around the country, as well as numerous Covid 19 Protocols but fans were back to watch horse racing, Rugby Union, Rugby League and the first legs of the championship play off matches, as Michael Redford reports. Solanke to danjuma crowd cheers. The roar of a crowd how weve missed that. The Sound Ofjoy fills the air on the South Coast this is the next step to sport returning to some kind of normality supporters back in stadiums, albeit in a limited capacity. There were 2,000 lucky Ticket Holders at bournemouth Last Night in their championship playoff semifinal. And there were around a,000 at barnsley for their match against swansea. Over a year away from the terraces, it doesnt take long for the raw emotion to return. And it wasnt just football that reopened its doors fans were flying high at newcastle with live Rugby Union on offer, their pre Match Pie now accompanied by a squeeze of sanitizer. I think its a mixture of relief and excitement. Relief because perhaps, you know, during the dark days, we didnt believe that wed get to this point and excitement, really, because, you know, its going to be great to hear the Kingston Park Stadium Roar as the fellas run out for the first time. Switching codes but not switching Attire Face masks aplenty at warrington as around a,000 fans packed in to see their beloved wolves in the Super League. And from wolves to horses where fans returned to a handful of racecourses around the country. Plenty turned up at redcar to see miss Houdini Escape with the tightest of wins. Its so nice to have the atmosphere back. Everyones in, you know, great spirits and its just a complete. Sort of uplifting mood. But for some, the excitement of fans returning may have been too much. And for some well, the occasion was simply just a bit overwhelming. Whatever the emotion, its good to be back. Michael redford, Bbc News. We spoke about this yesterday, the big fight between Anthonyjoshua And Tyson fury. It has been thrown into doubt. Just 2a hours after it looked like it was definitely going to happen. With the olympics getting closer, theres been more good news for Adam Peaty as he won in the 100m Breaststroke Semi Final at the european championships. The final is today. But it was britains Ax100m Relay Team who stole the headlines Last Night. They won gold at the championships for the first time in 9a Years finishing ahead of the netherlands. And they did it in a new british record time to secure a place in tokyo. At the start of the year, Double Olympic champion Helen Glover told Bbc Breakfast she wanted to try and attempt a comeback in time for tokyo. That would make her the first woman to be selected for the british olympic Rowing Team after having children. Not cold for most, the Focus Today is one of sunshine and also some showers. Like the last couple of days the showers will be heavy and thundery with some hail. There is not much wind to move them along. Two Weather Fronts, one in the north sliding southwards across scotland and another coming in from the South West, they will bring heavy showers as we go through the day. Starting dry, a few showers around the showers will get going Coming Up from the South West across many parts of england and wales. Meanwhile the front and annoyed slips southwards across parts of scotland, bring patchy Cloud And Patchy rain. You are showers that they will still be some across Southern Scotland and Northern England with temperatures from nine to maybe 16 degrees. On Wednesday Morning we say goodbye to our Weather Front in the south, players from the South East, we start with a bit of dry weather but once again the showers will get going, particularly so in eastern areas where they will be heavy and thundery with hail. The front in scotland weakening, temperatures similar to today. Overnight and into thursday, low pressure coming in from the atlantic and you can see all that rain piling in, moving from the west to the east, and through the west to the east, and through the day we will also have strengthening winds and on thursday and friday some of us will actually see gales and trees are more or less in full leaf now, so that could lead to some small branches coming down, possibly some destruction, as well. Home to a quarter of A Million plants, the uks largest accessible Walled Garden and 15a Acres of greenery, one of europes biggest Gardening Projects opens today, after a year long delay. Watch The Sun does is pick out some of the colour. It has been such a Cold Spring this year that all of The Gardeners will know, anything you plant it hasnt done as well as it did last year but still, things are looking fabulous here at Rhs Bridgewater. They spent £35 million. This was once a grand old estate, a stately home, the home is long gone, with formal guidance. It has been recreated, re established, recycled if you like. Some of the sightlines are beautiful. That is the gardiner s cottage, believe it or not. They have done a Sterling Job and today it opens to the public. This is what a quarter of A Million new plants look like thats what its taken to create the royal horticultural Societys Brand new garden, Rhs Bridgewater in salford. Due to the pandemic, its opening a year later than hoped. But in that time, so much has changed. This has been the best surprise that we could have had. Absolutely brilliant. This group has been coming here to the Wellbeing Garden on doctors orders as part of prescribed therapy, but lockdown has seen them effectively locked out. Today, theyre back for the first time in more than a year. Absolutely amazing. This time last year, we was all covered in mud and then the pandemic Hit us. Yeah. 0h its really transformed. The last time i was her, in fact, working over that side there, i we didnt see any of these Flower Beds or anything. But i tell you, thats looking very nice. I absolutely brilliant, been waiting for this day since shutdown the first time. So. Its. Awe inspiring. Its absolutely brilliant. And to be part of it. Is even better. The 15a Acres was once a grand estate owned by Lord Ellesmere a wealthy industrialist but in recent years was neglected and became overgrown. The house, worsley new hall, is long gone. There are formal and Walled Gardens that reflect the sites heritage, but bridgewater has another role. Very much with this garden, rather than just putting up a fence and inviting people to come in and pay a fee and have a Cup Of Tea and be inspired and do all the beautiful things that you can do as a garden attraction, its much more than that. There are links between us in the community we have a Community Outreach Team which goes out and takes horticulture to the community but were also inviting people in to work on site, as well. So its a very two Way Street and a symbiotic relationship that doesntjust have a fence around the outside. And this is that ethos in action. Here in the community garden, various groups from salford can come here, work, garden, orjust relax in a safe space. Its a place for people tojust come and relax, get their hands dirty. If someone turns up here One Day and doesnt want to do any gardening, thats completely fine with me. Weve got benches around. They can have a wander around the rest of The Garden. I really want people to feel at home and relaxed here because thats what Community Growing is all about, really. Its about. Just getting involved and doing what you want to do. One of the groups involved here is Salford Loaves and fishes a charity that works with homeless and vulnerable people. Its mals first visit, and hes very impressed. Im loving every minute of it. Ill be coming every week now. I will be coming every week, helping out. Thats no problem at all for me. Much has been made during the pandemic of the benefits to mental and physical health from fresh air, green open spaces, and gardening. So bridgewater s arrival albeit later than planned will be very welcome. It shows you how warm it is here. The walls it shows you how warm it is here. The walls will do that. Elizabeth rizzini. Its on thursday and friday when well see some longer spells of rain, and its set to turn rather windy. Im back with the latest from Bbc London newsroom in half an hour. Now though its back to dan and louise. Good morning, welcome to breakfast with Dan Walker and Louise Minchin. Our headlines today. A night to remember but fears of a hangover as cases of the indian Variant Spread to 86 local authorities. Ministers step up calls for people to take up the vaccine as soon as its offered as 37 year olds become eligible for the jab in england. Police searching for a suspected victim of Serial Killer Fred West will now excavate a Gloucester Cafe after finding evidence suggesting a body could be buried there. I am a professional footballer. At least, i would have been. The promising young footballer who was killed at 15, now immortalised in a video game. The Ason-'>SeAson'>Premier League SeAson might not even be over, but the Transfer Speculation is starting. England Captain Harry Kane is understood to be frustrated at tottenham, with widespread reports over his long term future. Good morning from almost the top of the London Eye, you can see the structure beside me, it weighs almost 2100 metric tonnes. The sky is blue, for many of us we are off to a dry start with a few showers but view the day, further heavy and thundery showers with hail will develop. And just the atmosphere, hugging people, live music its brilliant, i love it. Lets talk about this more with our chief political correspondent, adam fleming. Good morning. A big Moment Yesterday, i know we spoke to you then as well, but there is understandably a little bit of nervousness around from Downing Street about what happens over the next few weeks. Im street about what happens over the next few weeks. Next few weeks. Im not sure if nervousness next few weeks. Im not sure if nervousness is next few weeks. Im not sure if nervousness is quite next few weeks. Im not sure if nervousness is quite the i next few weeks. Im not sure if nervousness is quite the right i next few weeks. Im not sure if I Nervousness is quite the right word, i think it is morejust nervousness is quite the right word, i think it is more just that they are watching the situation very, very carefully. They are still waiting for the data from the scientists about just waiting for the data from the scientists aboutjust how much more transmissible this indian variant of the virus is than the one we have had in the uk for a while now. And that will make all the difference to the risk that it poses. But for now, the risk that it poses. But for now, the government seems quite confident in its existing strategy, which is that you focus on the areas where there seems to be a bit of a problem, and at the moment that is bolton, blackburn and increasingly in Benefit Bedford as well, flood the area with tests and ram home a message that people need to get vaccinated. Whether you are 37 years and over and can get a first dose, or whether you are over 50 and can get a second dose. People are being urged to get it after eight weeks rather than 12 weeks after their first dose. Government officials think that if you look at those pictures of people queueing around the block in bolton, there are quite a lot of people turning up for their first dose which suggests that the strategy might be working. They admit that there is a lot more uncertainty in the system now. There is an example of that, the government is doing a review of general social distancing, so things like the one Metre Plus Rule in bars, where you should and should not wear facemasks. Ministers bars, where you should and should not wearfacemasks. Ministers had hoped to publish it by The End of the month, that now looks like it has slipped a little bit, because there are a lot more factors to take into account. There is a sense that maybe people are getting a little bit too carried away with this and that we should wait for the data to get much clearer picture. I get much clearer picture. I appreciate that, Thank You very much. Our reporter Andrew Plant is at the site this morning. She was last seen at the Bus Stop in the centre of the city, she was off to see her boyfriend and that was the last time she was seen. There was a huge Police Operation to try and discover what happened to her but there was absolutely no trace. Back in 1968 when she was 15, she was a waitress at this cafe which has been here for decades under one name or another, and one of her customers was a builder here in gloucester called Fred West. You have to Fast Forward 25 years to the early 90s when his crimes started coming to light, he was charged with 12 murders and at that point people started putting two and two together and wondering whether or not Fred West might have been behind Marys Disappearance but there was never enough evidence at there was never enough evidence at the time to warrant a search of this cafe. A couple of weeks ago, a Documentary Team who were making a film about the crimes of Fred West said they had found something in the cellar of this cafe which warranted police attention. This tent went up and the search began. We did not know what they found until Last Night when police said they had photographed some kind of blue material in the corner of the clean plate cellar, and mary had been wearing a blue coat when she disappeared. They also found a structural anomaly which warrant Excavation Work and they say they will start digging in the cellar on Wednesday Morning. Marys family have been kept informed, they say they are happy that those excavations will take place and more than five decades later there is now a possibility that they could finally discover what happened to mary. What they show is that a. 8 of people were out of Work In that period. It was a. 9 in the period before that and 5 before that so means its falling. In february to april the number of vacancies reached its highest level since since March 2020 Pre Pandemic. Accommodation and Food Industries picking up, but the arts, Entertainment And Receration struggling. What can we read in to this . Lots of economists will say that staying around 5 is obviously horrible for those in that category. But its not as bad as was feared. And this is a trend were seeing. You might remember last week gdp, so the value of all that we make and do, dipped by 1. 5 for the first quarter of the year but again that was less bad than the experts had forewarned. And now we should be heading for fairer weather. Vaccine roll out, Gentle Reopening through april and a big burst in may, one Newspaper Reporting we spent £2. 8 million a minute yesterday. But as i always say, as government schemes, particularly furlough, are wound up, thats when the reality will become clearer. In the figures today, three quarters of A Million fewer people currently on the payroll than this time last year so still quite a worrying picture overall but less bad than was once feared. It is a glorious there. 18 minutes past seven. 15 years after Teenager Kiyan Prince was stabbed and killed outside his school in london, his dream of becoming a professional footballer is being realised through the help of technology. His friends and family have worked with designers to turn kiyan into a character in this years fifa computer game, with the aim of discouraging young people from carrying knives. Breakfast s Graham Satchell has the story. My name is Kiyan Prince. And i am a professional footballer. At least, i would have been. Had i not been killed when i was 15. Kiyan prince was trying to break up a fight when he was stabbed and killed outside his school. He was just 15. His bubbly, joyful personality was infectious to everyone around him. For such a big guy, at such a young age, you know, looked intimidating but honestly, just a gentle giant. Some people are special, like, they are, and he was special. And he didnt have, special in the sense that, never thought he was better than anyone but he was better than a lot of us. 15 years on, kiyans friends remember him as a boy becoming a man with huge potential to be a great footballer. Hed already been signed as an Academy Player for qpr. From watching him play at that age, and i think the progress he would have gone through, he would have been at the euros in two weeks time, 100 . Beautiful boy. Beautiful. The kind of son that every parent, especially a father, just wants to have. Kiyans Dad Mark was determined to do something in his sons name. He set up the Kiyan Prince foundation, a charity dedicated to stopping knife crime. On this, the 15th anniversary of his death, the foundation has done something remarkable to keep Kiyans Name alive. This picture of star Wars Character Han Solo is by the artist chris scalf, renowned for the photorealism of his work. The Foundation Creation commissioned chris to create an image of kiyan as he would look today. Theres a certain point where halfway through, when i start to feel like im getting it, and feeling confident, but not confident enough, until i get the final acknowledgement from the people who it really matters too. To say that it looks like kiyan. Working with the special Effects Team behind avengers endgame, chris created this 3d Model of kiyan. And this is the Moment Mark Prince saw the picture of his son at 30 for the first time. He looks absolutely fantastic. What a greatjob. Kiyans image will be on billboards, on Match Attax cards, and hell become a Qpr Player on fifa. Kiyan prince, how about that brought back to life as the footballer he should have been. Graham satchell, Bbc News. What an amazing thing. Lets speak now to kiyans Father Mark and Qprs Director of football les ferdinand. Theyre at Qprs Stadium this morning, which is named after kiyan. Its about them understanding and what you are becoming, its about developing character, developing your determination and your focus and discipline. These are the things that kiyan is about, he was about caring, kindness, looking out for others, he had leadership qualities. This is more important than it is, chasing money. A lot of the young people, the problems we have now is because young people are chasing money, not recognising it is developing character which will result in you getting your money. You are focused on your potential and your gifts. This is the message that kiyan sent out to many young people, and i get many messages, feedback from the work i am doing, from young people, who have been impacted, talking about how kiyan is a new Role Model. And they want to become like him. That is why this game is so important, and thats why the centre we are trying to raise money for is so important. We have all this wonderful stuff with kiyan coming out and the game and the work i am doing, but its bigger than me and bigger than kiyan. We are trying to impact the next generation, make changes with knife crime because we know that the government have not focused on our young people the way that they should. We care about our youth. They are the next generation, they are the people who are going to be the cameramen, they are going to be the cameramen, they are going to be the cameramen, they are going to be the entrepreneurs, the businessmen of the future. We have to invest in them. We cannot allow knives, young people carrying knives, young people carrying knives, to continue like this, and just report it and no one is putting a solution together to tackle it. We want to do this at the Kiyan Prince foundation, use this whole project that we are doing to be able to create a centre that shows on a holistic level, we want to change the way that education systems teach young people, and we want to lobby with the politicians. The way that they tackle first time offenders and restorative justice, all of these areas that need to be changed, nothing has been done. We are criminalising young people when they need to support and help. Young people dontjust come up and decide to have knives and attack each other. We have to take responsibility for the society that young people are living in and we need this centre. We need to raise the 1 need this centre. We need to raise the1 Million need this centre. We need to raise the 1 Million to do this and we are hoping throughout all of this media attention, and ea sports, that people will donate, corporate will get involved, and help us to push this out and see the difference that we are going to make and help communities to make changes also. Can i ask you one thing . That decision, the first thing, when someone make makes a decision and a young person sees this and thinks they might stick a knife out today, what would you say to them . I they might stick a knife out today, what would you say to them . I would sa , think what would you say to them . I would say. Think about what would you say to them . I would say, think about this. What would you say to them . I would say, think about this. Watch what would you say to them . I would say, think about this. Watch my i what would you say to them . I would say, think about this. Watch my son. | say, think about this. Watch my son. Look at the impact that my son had in 15 years by being kind, being good, focusing on his potential, and one person with that mindset of taking up a knife, they pick up their phone and then i can leave their phone and then i can leave their house, they stopped that life. People would have been fans of kiyan, people have loved him, they will never get to meet this individual that would have been a Role Model and impacted how many millions of individuals lives. That is a knife crime does. That is what people with the knives do. They threw in the future of people who are going to have an impact in their own communities. Do you really want to do that . Do you want to have the legacy that you have a wreck to families, brothers, sisters, communities, and taken away great people, and we dont give them the chance to live out their life and find out who they would have become . Thank you very much, great to speak to both of you this morning. Mark prince, kiyans dad, and les ferdinand, director of football at qpr. Time now to get the news, Travel And Weather where you are. Good morning from Bbc London, im tolu adeoye. Londoners are once again being urged to take up their vaccines when offered, with concerns the rise in the indian variant is in part linked to vaccine hestitancy. Cleo lyn, from Tower Hamlets, nearly lost her dad to Coronavirus Last year. She is now volunteering with Barts Health nhs trust, encouraging others to get the vaccine. A lot of the time, i think, when weve spoken to people is when they dont understand all the facts, they only see kind of the cons of it and not the pros. And i think thats what we need to weigh up and try and talk to people about, is giving them the positive information around why you should get it. Rental electric scooters will be allowed on londons roads from the 7th Ofjune as part of a 12 month trial. Only scooters run by local authorities will be legal. They will have a maximum speed of 12. 5 miles per hour and users will have to complete online safety courses. Hello, good morning. Its on thursday and friday when well see some longer spells of rain, and its set to turn rather windy. Im back with the latest from Bbc London in an hour. Now, though, its back to dan and louise. Bye for now. Hello, this is breakfast with Louise Minchin and Dan Walker. Lets get you up to date on things that have been happening this morning. Weve been hearing this morning about the growing concern over the spread of the indian variant of coronavirus. So what do the latest figures tell us . There are now more than 2,300 confirmed cases in the uk, according to the Health Secretary Matt hancock. This means theres been a 77 increase in levels over the last five days. And according to the latest data, there are now 86 local authorities where there are five or more confirmed cases. The North West of england has seen a significant rise in cases of the indian variant over the last fortnight. Our correspondent Phil Mccann is in blackburn this morning, which is one of the most affected areas. Phil, what are the authorities there doing to tackle this . Well, late Last Night, off the back of a lorry, this pop up Vaccination Centrejust behind me of a lorry, this pop up Vaccination Centre just behind me was dropped off in this Car Park here in the middle of blackburn and open about that will open in about half an hour. The reAson it is here is that this borough, and alton, at the highest number of people with the indian variant anywhere in the country and bolton. Matt hancock said if anyone had concerns, hesitancy about getting the vaccine, hesitancy about getting the vaccine, he said just look at bolton. The reAson he said that of people in hospital in bolton with the indian variant people who are eligible for the Vaccine But Havent had it. There is some debate about whether thatis there is some debate about whether that is because they had refused to haveit that is because they had refused to have it or whether it is because there were barriers in the way, perhaps they found it difficult to book, it they couldnt get to a Vaccination Centre and that is part of the logic of bringing Vaccination Centres like this place closer to people. The government is saying you can turn up at this Vaccination Centre and the other pop at once opening today as part of a surge of resources into this part of lancashire and the of greater manchester but you have to be over 36 or have one of the underlying conditions that make you eligible for the black sea at the moment. They are not rolling it out to all Age Groups at the moment, Matt Hancock said that was because that was the clinical advice the government have been given. He also said the deployment, the search of all of these here, represents the biggest Resource Push to any individual part of the country at any point in the pandemics of art. Thank you very much for that, we will speak to you later on this morning. Theres also been a rise in cases of the variant in bedford, and this week Surge Testing is being rolled out. Lets find out more from vicky head, whos the the Towns Director of public health. Good morning, Thank You forjoining us. How many cases do you know you have . We us. How many cases do you know you have . ~ ~. , us. How many cases do you know you have . ~ ~. ,. ,. , j~ us. How many cases do you know you have . ~. ,. ,. , j~ , have . We know we have over 80 cases ofthe have . We know we have over 80 cases of the indian have . We know we have over 80 cases of the indian variant have . We know we have over 80 cases of the indian variant but have . We know we have over 80 cases of the indian variant but in have . We know we have over 80 cases of the indian variant but in a have . We know we have over 80 cases of the indian variant but in a way i of the indian variant but in a Way Thatis of the indian variant but in a way that is not the big message. What we know is what we have seen locally which is a massive rise in cases. Three or four weeks ago we were having three orfour three or four weeks ago we were having three or four cases per day, we are now up to ten times that in bedford and it is really important that people understand just how quickly the situation can change. We have had this really big rise in cases, we also know we have had confirmed cases of the indian variant and what we have now is pretty much all of our cases are likely to be the variant from india. You will be Surge Testing, what about vaccination . We you will be Surge Testing, what about vaccination . You will be Surge Testing, what about vaccination . We are doing lots on both of those. About vaccination . We are doing lots on both of those. Because about vaccination . We are doing lots on both of those. Because we about vaccination . We are doing lots on both of those. Because we were l on both of those. Because we were able to see really early on that our cases were linked to specific educational settings we were able to do some very targeted testing. We were testing some of our largest schools and we have been working on our Vaccination Programme, making sure vaccination is as available and accessible to residents as possible. Really pushing those messages about anyone that is eligible, make the appointments. We have walk in clinics running. I would encourage everyone to get the vaccine. We have been working on though so far. What we know is we are seeing transmission now within the community more generally. Having had cases mostly in our School Age and younger population, we have seen movement into their households and Thatis Movement into their households and that is one of the striking things about the variant, how transmissible it is. If someone who goes to School Chess positive, we then see their whole Family Testing positive. We are now seeing more cases in the community where there is no connection to a school so we are moving to the Surge Testing model, working closely with our colleagues regionally and nationally to get that in place. We are identifying small areas in bedford that we will be targeting that Surge Testing. How worried are you by what is happening in the communities . I am worried are you by what is happening in the communities . In the communities . I am very worried in the communities . I am very worried. Everybody in the communities . I am very worried. Everybody needs in the communities . I am very worried. Everybody needs to i worried. Everybody needs to understand how transmissible it is. We are always playing catch up, always behind and decide to get in front of it which is what we are trying to do with Surge Testing, identifying more asymptomatic cases to make sure they are isolating as they need to be. It is a worrying time for us. With the easing in restrictions i am worried about people coming together in greater numbers in indoor settings, the risk that poses. We are really communicating, going to residents to say, you know, be cautious. The virus has not gone away, it is back with a vengeance. Think twice before going and sitting indoors at the moment. It is perfectly possible to carry a meeting up with people outdoors and it will always be safer. ,. ,. , safer. You said the vaccine is widely available, safer. You said the vaccine is widely available, so safer. You said the vaccine is widely available, so who safer. You said the vaccine is widely available, so who are| safer. You said the vaccine is. Widely available, so who are you vaccinating . Can anybody turn up, how does it work where you are . 5 how does it work where you are . As in how does it work where you are . Is in other areas we are working with those who are eligible, so we want anyone who is eligible to come forward and that is a lot of people in the population now. I would also say most of our cases have been in those who are under 40, so at the moment i do have a good degree of confidence in the Vaccination Programme, that it will provide good protection. We have seen a small uptick in our in patient numbers in the hospital, but nothing that makes me feel like we are not seeing a vaccine that is not effective. If you are clinically vulnerable, over 18, ora you are clinically vulnerable, over 18, or a carer, you are clinically vulnerable, over 18, ora carer, we you are clinically vulnerable, over 18, or a carer, we urge you to come forward for that. I 18, or a carer, we urge you to come forward for that. Forward for that. I really appreciate forward for that. I really appreciate your forward for that. I really appreciate your time. I forward for that. I really i appreciate your time. Vicky forward for that. I really appreciate your time. Vicky head. From today, people aged 37 in england can book theirjab, as well. More than 50 years after the disappearance of is year old Mary Bastholm, police have found possible evidence that she may buried at a cafe linked to the Serial Killer Fred West. An excavation of the site in gloucester will now take place, following exploratory work. Lets speak to geoffrey wansall, who wrote the official biography of Fred West. Thank you very much for being with us again. We spoke to ut last week and that those who didnt see you talking about it last week, remind us why this cafe is so heavily linked to Fred West. Is specifically linked to Fred West. Is specifically linked to Fred West. Is specifically linked to Mary Bastholm. Back in 1968, it was called pop in cafe, and in those days Fred West and his nanny, who he also said they killed, used to frequent it. He did a bit of Building Work whom he also killed. There is no reAson particularly why mary should disappear. She was the first person, really, in the terrible litany of tragedies that surrounded west and i have always believed she was his victim, but no one knew what she had what happened to. She was standing at the Bus Stop not far from the cafe carrying a monopoly set in a Plastic Bag and went away. I have always believed, because that is the way fred operated, that he would have drawn up in his van, and said, oh, mary, would you like a lift . I am going to see my boyfriend. Dont worry, hop in and bingo, that was The End of mary, she disappeared completely. Gloucester police, to their credit, did an enormous amount of searching for her, including putting divers into the docks to see if she had been chucked into the river severn, but no sign of her. That is 53 years ago. Sadly since then her mother has died, there are some family members left but i hope and pray that finally her remains will be found. Not that that is any consolation and it is just another body, another terrible mark, saying that west put the country into. He was a vicious, evil, depraved man who showed no remorse, no sympathy, nothing. Although he presented as being the most amicable, although he presented as being the mostamicable, likeable, cheery little chap with dirty fingernails and curly hair and a little smile and curly hair and a little smile and a little glint little twinkle. He was a very, very wicked man. In your understanding of him and from those interviews, what was it about him that meant he didnt give information about people like Mary Bastow . Was he withholding information so he had power . Precisely right. Every Serial Killer, and fred is typical, most always want to hang onto a piece of information that gives them power and control. Ian brady never told anyone where Keith Bennett was, 14 year old with those wonderful little round glasses. West was exactly the same. Everyone who kills multiple times plus to keep secrets about whether bodies are. It is the most complicated thing about being a Serial Killer. What do you do with the body . Freds response to that was in many ways the most horrible. He would dismember the bodies and bury them in literally square graves and shows the remains of their bones and shows the remains of their bones and head into the grave. Sorry, it is not a breakfast time conversation. Yes, iam not surprised tell anyone about Mary Bastholm, but equally i dont believe this was a crime in which rosemary west was involved. It was before they were an item. It is before they were an item. It is re before they were an item. It is pretty grim before they were an item. It is pretty grim. Thank before they were an item. It s pretty grim. Thank you very much for speaking to us this morning. Geoffrey wrote the biography of Fred West. Spurs say their focus is on finishing the Ason-'>SeAson as strongly as possible thats what everybody should be focused on. Lets see if that happens we saw spectators return to a host of sporting venues up and down the country yesterday. Those events included last Nights Championship play off matches. Around 4,000 supporters were at 0akwell to see barnsley take on swansea in the first leg of their semifinal. But the home fans would leave disappointed. Barnsley losing the first leg 1 0, Andre Ayew scoring the only goal of the game. Should we let it go in . There you 90, should we let it go in . There you go, worth the wait. Just over 2,000 fans were at bournemouth for their first leg against brentford. And this time, the home fans did have something to smile about Arnaut Danjuma with the only goal to give bournemouth the advantage. There were spectators present for the first time in 14 months for matches in Rugby Unions premiership, and the Super League in Rugby League. Warrington couldnt give their supporters a victory, though, as huddersfield won 26 20 even leading to some boos at full time from the home fans not that happy to be back, after all and plenty of people took the opportunity to return through the turnstiles at racecourses up and down the country. Those included redcar, where miss Houdini Escaped with the win. Do you like what i did there . Louisa got thatjoke, at least. Im glad someone did got that joke, at least. Human Contact And Interaction were part of day to Day Life in a Pre Pandemic world. But, after months of being isolated from family and friends, theyre something many of us will never take for granted again. As sleepovers, larger social gatherings and hugs are now allowed for those who want to, some long awaited reunions are taking place. Heres breakfast s jayne mccubbin. Finally, we can begin to relish real reunions. My friends, my family, my aunties, ijust miss them. I want you to write on the piece of paper here youre desperate of paper who youre desperate to reunite with again. Benny, thats my best friend, siobhan, one of my other best friends. We can sit indoors on saturday and then go back to my friends for some drinks. 0h, we can do this now, hooray i know, I Cant wait sleepovers, birthday parties, indoor get togethers finally allowed. With my mum, weve missed a couple of christmases now and shes been on her own. So were looking forward to getting back together in each other s houses, looking forward to it. Normality normality, indeed. This is what we want. This is indeed what we want. And these reunions can now come with a now legal hug. I know that, as a mother, hugs with your children are really important. And i miss my mum. Ido more than one year now, i dont hug no one. I miss my daughter. I miss my grandchildren. My dad, rosie, daisy. You dont realise how much it is that important until its gone. For some, like vivian, its just too soon. I know im allowed here, but im still a little bit worried about it. A bit cautious . Cautious is the word, yeah. But this, we all hope, is at least the beginning of The End. Yesterday, some grabbed the opportunity. Others gently took it. Boris johnson urged caution. The reality is we faced our not so splendid isolation for over a year, and this professor fears that lack of human contact will come with its own cost. Its almost as important as the food we eat and the air we breathe. It releases oxytocin, it releases endogenous opiates, it lowers cortisol levels, it lowers heart rate, all of these are physiological consequences of the caress. They are absolutely essential for our well being. Art here in Liverpools Walker Art gallery shows us that, as a species, we thrive on physical contact. Jill says it is the very thing which has helped her mum Fight Cancerfor 18 years. Absolutely desperate to hug my mum. Since lockdown last year, shes been in and out of hospital unwell. Like we say on paper, she shouldnt be here. I truly believe, jayne, that its the power of love and human connection and touch. But covid casts a long shadow. Just as the law changes to allow them their first hugs, theyve been stopped in their tracks. Our whole entire family contracted covid. And so she was admitted to hospital on thursday and hasnt had any of us being able to see her, to hold her hand. We just have to have hope. Yeah. And i think when theres life, theres hope, right . Those hugs are on the way. Its on the way, isnt it . Its on the way, its on the way. Yeah. This is Uncle Adam and this is my nanny. Thats my nan, thats me. Sleepovers at nans house. And my grandad and my mum. Sunday roast with granddad. I miss to give them a cuddle when they dont feel good. These are the ordinary moments we didnt realise was so precious until they were gone. And now theyre back, we just hope they become ordinary once again. Jayne mccubbin, Bbc News. That is going to get me going has that set you that is going to get me going flags that set you up . Police in gloucester say theres enough evidence to begin Excavation Work at a cafe, as they search for the body of a suspected victim of Serial Killer, Fred West. Officers are investigating the disappearance of 15 year old Mary Bastholm who worked at the cafe before she went missing in 1968. 0ur Reporter Andrew Plant is at the site this morning. Police clearly feel there is something worth investigating there . Good morning, yes, this has been a Long Time Coming. Mary disappeared more than 50 years ago, she was last seen at a bust up in the centre of the city, carrying a Monopoly Board in a Carrier Bag was on her way to see the boyfriend she had at the time. That was the last time she was seen, there was a huge Police Search to find out what happened to her that there was no trace. She had been a waitress at this cafe at the time she was 15, it was 1968, and one of her regular customers was a Builderfrom Gloucester one of her regular customers was a builder from gloucester called one of her regular customers was a Builderfrom Gloucester called Fred West. You need to Fast Forward 25 years to the early 90s when his crimes started coming to light, he was charged with 12 murders and at that point people started putting two and two together and wondering whether Fred West might have been behind Marys Disappearance. There was never enough evidence at the time to warrant a search of this cafe. A couple of weeks ago a Documentary Team making a film about the crimes of Fred West found something, they said, in the cellar of this cafe that warranted polices attention. We didnt know what that was until Last Night when police said they photographed some kind of blue material in the corner of the cellar here, and mary had been wearing a blue coat when she vanished. They also say they have found a structural anomaly in the cellar which warranted excavation and they will start digging on Wednesday Morning. Police say they have made it clear to Marys Family that they might not find human remains here but they say they will promise to do everything possible to establish if mary is indeed buried here. Herfamily have establish if mary is indeed buried here. Her family have spoken and said they are being kept in close touch with the investigation and they hope this is a chance to finally get closure, in other words, more than five decades after she disappeared, finally to perhaps solve the mystery of what happened to mary. Plans to protect and restore the natural world for future generations will be announced by the government later today. For the first time, legally binding targets in england will be set, to try to halt the decline of certain species by 2030. Our Science Correspondent Victoria Gill reports. Emerging, post lockdown, into spring sunshine. When weve been allowed out, so many of us headed to natural spaces and green landscapes like this protected woodland in cheshire. But while its helped us to cope, nature is in crisis. In the uk one in seven species is under threat. Now the governments revealed how it plans to build the restoration of the natural world into a post pandemic recovery, with a legally binding target to halt the loss of species by 2030. Bringing together all the different actors in those landscapes the farmers, the conservation groups, the water companies, the house builders, the local government then this really could work. And if you see the power of a legally binding target that weve seen on climate change which has really shifted the dial in this country then im very hopeful that something comparable on nature will begin to move us in the right direction on that subject, too. The new plans set out to tackle the nature and climate crises together, by planting more trees and also restoring 35,000 hectares of peatland an area about the size of the isle of wight. But thats only about 5 of the peatland in england. So this is black lake. A promise to phase out the sale of peat in garden centres has been welcomed by conservation groups, but they say its long overdue. Itd be deeply embarrassing if, by the time cop26 happens, that this is still for sale in our garden centres. That were still bagging up a Carbon Sink and selling it to gardeners. Absolutely right. Peatland is really valuable for our carbon, its really valuable for tackling climate change. And what were doing at the moment is were digging it up, putting it in plastic and putting it on sale. Sites like this have been a refuge for many of us, and these new plans aim to make space for nature in every landscape. Victoria gill, Bbc News. If you have been watching all morning, you will know that carol is out and about for us on the London Eye, we have a wonderful view. You will not be able to see this but we can see you on the far distance, the Beautiful View that you have, it has been fantastic to see it this money, you are one of the first people allowed on it today . Yes, and it has stopped especially for us let me show you this, you can see the Houses Of Parliament, and on the riverside, you can see the bars where the members of parliament sit out and have a drink. Johnny was working here and telling the story, if you sit in the bar outside when big ben chimes, when St Thomass Hospital is on the other side of the river, the noise of the chime reverberates, bounces back, so if you are sitting in the bar, you hear the echo and you hear it chime twice. Thats rather a nice story. The total weight of the wheel is 2100 metric tonnes, the equivalent of 1200 black cabs. When it was bought through the thames, it had to be coordinated with the tide and the clearance under Southwark Bridge was just 40 centimetres at times. There are 32 pods, there is not a number 13, unlucky for some. We have been lucky with the weather, blue skies and it is beautiful, on a clear day you can see the 40 kilometres in any direction. Today will not be clear all day, showers in the forecast. Like the last couple of days, the showers will be heavy and thundery, slow moving with some hail as well. Many of us starting on a dry note with some showers but they are getting going, coming in from the South West across parts of england, wales, Northern Ireland, and in scotland we have a Weather Front sinking south taking Cloud And Rain with it. Fewer showers across Southern Scotland and Northern England but he will see some, temperatures 1916, may be 17 in any prolonged spells of sunshine. Showers will fade that those in the south will move across southern counties heading towards the South East. The Weather Front in scotland will head south but most of us will be frost free. Temperatures could get close to freezing in rural parts of Northern Ireland, Southern Scotland and local parts of Northern England. More showers getting going tomorrow, especially in eastern areas where they are likely to be heavy and thundery with some hail. Similar temperatures to today, and thursday, wet and windy weather coming our way. Here comes another one home to a quarter of A Million plants, the uks largest accessible Walled Garden and 151 acres of greenery, one of europes biggest Gardening Projects opens today, after a year long delay. The Rhs Bridgewater is the first of its kind to be created in an urban environment and has been four years in the making. John maguire is there for us this morning. This is only about seven miles away from where we are sat this morning. Yes, i was thinking that exact thing, when we had that cross the portugal, who needs to go to portugal, who needs to go to portugal and the algarve, when you have this within ten minutes away you two sitting it opens today, people do have to book online as you have to these days for the next couple of weeks, certainly. Look at the beautiful beds of tulips. What this site has done has retained a lot of its history, a lot of its links with the past. You have these wonderful sightlines, the chimney breast you can see in the distance, the building behind is called the bothy, that is where the Boiler Room was that heated greenhouses. For the large stately home that was on this estate many years ago, that garden over there was a kitchen garden. It is that link with the but also the present, and it is doing a lot of good work for peoples features. Futures. This time last year, it was all covered in mud and then the pandemic Hit us. Yeah. 0h its really transformed. The last time i was here, in fact, working over that side there, i we didnt see any of these Flower Beds or anything. But i tell you, thats looking very nice. I absolutely brilliant, been waiting for this day since shutdown the first time. So. Its. Awe inspiring. Its absolutely brilliant. Its absolutely gorgeous, it is. And to be part of it. Is even better. The 151 acres was once a grand estate owned by Lord Ellesmere a wealthy industrialist but in recent years was neglected and became overgrown. The house, worsley new hall, is long gone. There are formal and Walled Gardens that reflect the sites heritage, but bridgewater has another role. Very much with this garden, rather than us putting up a fence and inviting people to come in and pay a fee and have a Cup Of Tea and be inspired and do all the beautiful things that you can do as a garden attraction, its much more than that. There are links between us and the community we have a Community Outreach Team which goes out and takes horticulture to the community but were also inviting people in to work on site, as well. Weve got benches all round. Its mal s first visit, and hes very impressed. Im loving every minute of it. Ill be coming every week now. Will you . I will be coming every week, helping out. Thats no problem at all for me. Much has been made during the pandemic of the benefits to mental and physical health from fresh air, green open spaces, and gardening. So bridgewater s arrival albeit later than planned will be very welcome. They have spent £35 million rejuvenating this site, rescuing it for the local community. Not only to maintain with the link with the history but with the presence as well. We are in the community well garden and i wanted to point out a couple of things. Look at these circular beds, they are dementia friendly so that if people become disorientated, it is a circular bed so they cant get too lost. The planting and The Garden is all new so that will grow and flourish in the years to come, but also its connection to the local community as well, those sort of links will grow and flourish in the years and decades ahead also. Thats it from us at Rhs Bridgewater in telford. Lets go to the newsrooms across the uk for the news, Travel And Weather where you are watching breakfast. Rental electric scooters will be allowed on londons roads from the 7th Ofjune as part of a i2 month trial. Only scooters run by local authorities will be legal. Turning to the roads westbound traffic through wapping on the highway is slow from the limehouse link towards tower hill. Its on thursday and friday when well see some longer spells of rain, and its set to turn rather windy. Im back with the latest from Bbc London in half an hour. Now, though, its back to dan and louise. Bye for now. Hello, this is breakfast with Louise Minchin and Dan Walker. We are here until 9 50am and then they take over. Sally is here to talk to us about. Ijust sally is here to talk to us about. I just dont even sally is here to talk to us about. Ijust dont even does because she is inspiring. She is a force of nature Helen Glover, she is inspiring that she would say she has been inspired by all of the people who have been in touch with her since the last time we spoke to her on a breakfast, very much inspired by ordinary mums and dads who have cheered her on with her current project because at the start of year on abc breakfast, Bec Breakfast we told you how the Double Olympic Rowing Champion Helen Glover was hoping to make a comeback at this summers tokyo games. Now aged 3a and a mum of three, she could become the first woman to make a british olympic Rowing Team after having children. Helen is competing this week in the hope of impressing the selectors and she took a break from training to give me an exclusive look at how thejuggle is real. From the moment i kind of started rowing, it was for nothing other than to win the olympics. Great Britains Glover and stanning defend their olympic title and they have done it in such style when i was preparing for london and for rio, it was all i had. It was the most important thing in the world. And now ive got my family. Youve got a green moustache and every single thing, every decision i make comes second to them. I get to come home and be mum and the kids do not care. They just dont care. Theyre not impressed . No, they dont. They dont care if ive done well or not. You know, when i get in the door and i start playing with them, reading to them or something like that, im. Im doing my most important job. Can you work it . There we go there we go. Good timing the babys woken up. Logan just came through and i said to him, im here to talk to you, logan just came through and i said to him, im here to talk to your very clever Mummy Isnt she brilliant . And he just wasnt remotely interested he wanted to know what was for lunch yeah, i mean, theyre food orientated. Yeah, they do. And i think that. A large part of the reAson i started doing this was to show them to physically show them what it takes to achieve your dreams, what it takes to be dedicated to something. Also to be able to never have a point in your life where you feel you cant do something. And i feel like them seeing it every day normalises it for them. And i hope that, you know, 20 years in the future when theyre making big decisions about their lives, there might be something in there that, just from watching thisjourney and being part of it and seeing what it takes to have commitment, theyll feel that little bit bolder to make a decision thats a little bit scary. So what does your day look like, then . Talk me through that. How does that go . All awake by half five and i dont have to leave the house till half seven. So i think of that first couple of hours is just getting some real quality time in, everyone in their pajamas, just having some fun and just kind of spending close time with The Little Ones, giving them their breakfast. And then i go out for my first session of the day. Yeah. Leave The Little Ones that steve, my husband. Leave The Little Ones with steve, my husband. Have a good morning, ill see you in two hours. They have a nap in the middle of the day. So nap time is normally how i work most of my training rounds. So i then do my session while theyre sleeping. So thatll be on the Rowing Machine or something like that. Good timing, poppet, ijust finished my bike. Then usually while im making their dinner, ill try and do my weights session. While youre making dinner . Yeah, its actually, it sounds like it wouldnt work, but often ill do a set of squats and then put the potatoes on honestly. No yeah, honestly. A lot of it is time saving. I think that will probably ring true to quite a lot of mums because you are neverjust doing one thing, you are always reading to one kid while changing another Ones Nappy or doing something. Theres so many things going on at the time and i think that the thing that i have worked out works best for me is making sure the training is just one of those things that slots into the day. Hello, Baby Logan there is a commonality between all parents. Its a massive equaliser. Every parent knows what it is like to have a child having a tantrum, or what it is like to have a sleepless Night Or Struggle to have your motivation to train again or anything like that. I think people put olympians on pedestals which are not realistic. I had never met an olympian until i got onto the british Rowing Team and to me, they were an unattainable, unachievable goal. Not human. And thats not right. They are all human and they are all flawed, and they all have struggles and i think that by, i think, being open with my story i hope, being open with my story and being open about the fact that it is a Juggling Act and some days i get it really wrong and some days i get it really right. Its the same as other parents and yet my goal is a different one. I think everybody has that reality. And its notjust parents, every individual trying to struggle, especially through the last year, trying to struggle the best way they can. For me, having this goal has helped me through the year. Im the best mum i can be, when i have that time, have that moment to myself. And equally when im the best mum i can be, im the best rower i can be, i think the two tie into each other really nicely. I think that parents, especially mothers, have so much guilt placed upon their shoulders, whether it is from themselves or from society. And i think that one thing that its shown me, that ive learned through this whole thing, is that women supporting women, women lifting each other up, is the most empowering thing. So what does success look like then this summer . My definition of success changes all the time. When i first spoke to you, very much my definition of success was going to be to make the team for tokyo. That still stands. I think that if i make the team selection, im going to have to stop and let that sink in. But as time has gone on, my ambition has changed, and. I dont know. Could we get onto the podium, could i come home with a medal . I wouldnt have thought it a year ago. But thats becoming definitely more my ambition, yeah. L. L, night goodness. With all the hand sanitiser, face coverings and temperature checks, it wasnt exactly Business As Usual when theatres reopened Last Night but make no mistake, the show did go on. After a long wait, audiences returned to auditoriums across britain to watch everything from the mousetrap, to april in paris. Hearing the cheer when youve just done a number and you hear the cheer, and the energy you get |back as well when youre running | through the audience, you see the smiles on peoples faces. Thank you.
