Efforts are being stepped up to combat the increase in the indian variant of coronavirus as Lockdown Restrictions are eased in england, wales and much of scotland tomorrow. It comes amid a huge demand for coronavirus jabs as the Vaccine Rollout moves to people in their 30s. Our correspondent Daniela Relph has more. Margaret keenan was the first back in december, but now 30 Million people in england have received their first dose of the vaccine and 15 million, thats around one in three people, have had both doses. And is the Rollout Moves to people in their 30s, there has been a huge demand for appointments. If this was say they witnessed a surge in bookings since thursday, when 38 and 39 year olds were allowed to book a jab. More than 611,001st and second appointments have been made. This group will be offered the pfizer or the donor vaccine, and younger people in their 30s will be cold up shortly as the Vaccination Programme moves down the Age Groups moderna vaccine. Queueing for a jab in bolton, like in other areas, efforts are being stepped up to contain the indian variant of coronavirus. But officials have stressed its not just about vaccines, more needs to be done to stop the spread. All be done to stop the spread. All asects be done to stop the spread. Fill aspects are important testing, tracing, Vaccination And Isolation are important. Its not one single solution, working with communities together as well to make sure we support all of this. In together as well to make sure we support all of this. Support all of this. In england, twothirds support all of this. In england, twothirds of support all of this. In england, twothirds of people support all of this. In england, twothirds of People May support all of this. In england, j twothirds of People May have support all of this. In england, twothirds of People May have had two thirds of People May have had their first dose of the vaccine, but as restrictions begin to ease, the message of Caution And Restraint remains. Daniela relph, Bbc News. Now, from tomorrow, holidaymakers from the uk will be allowed to enter portugal, despite Lockdown Restrictions being extended there. Lucky you, if you are going on holiday. The country is on the uks Green List, which means travellers do not need to self isolate on their return, but proof of a negative Covid Test will be needed in order to enter the country. Nick beake reports. So, here it is the sea, the sand, the sunshine. Finally, once again, this will be a reality for british holiday makers, and they will be on their way in less than 2a hours from now. And here on the algarve, they are absolutely delighted. This place is so reliant on tourism, and for the past 14, 15 months, they have really been hit hard during the covid pandemic. If you look at the start at the local airport, faro, in a normal year, around half of all arrivals would be coming from the uk. And with them, they bring about half £1 billion, really boosting the portuguese economy, and thats why we need them at the moment on the beachesin we need them at the moment on the beaches in hotels and restaurants there, putting all their last minute touches together, waiting for this first wave of british tourists coming back once again. And once they get here, they will find that their own there isnt a need to quarantine, people will be able to eat indoors and outdoors, you will see some masks and there are social distancing rules. Here in portugal the government has extended the State Of Alert until The End of the month, but cases have been going down and people are really, really glad. They feel they are turning a corner. Of course, portugal is really popular at the moment because it is on the uk Green List, unlike italy, spain, greece, and so talking to people here in the tourist industry, they really feel they need to capitalise on this Head Start Theyve got over some of their key rivals. So, really, lots and lots of people excited here, waiting for the british tourists to come back. And they havent got long to wait now. Lets take a look at sundays papers. We just were looking inside them. Starting with the front pages. Several of them are looking ahead to the further lifting of lockdown Restrictions Tomorrow amid concerns over the indian coronavirus variant. The Sunday Telegraph reports that the government is planning to speed up coronavirus jabs in order to vaccinate up to A Million people a day. Those figures would be extraordinary if they achieved them, wouldnt they . The times pictures the impact of an israeli Air Strike on the offices of International News Organisations in gaza yesterday. There were also further Rocket Attacks into israel. And of course, we know people were protesting all over the Country Yesterday in response to what was going on there. We will talk to Paul Adams a little later on. Heres a lovely picture on the Stars Sport pages, showing Leicester City players celebrating after their 1 0 win against chelsea in the Fa Cup final yesterday. Now, imagine waking up this morning, pulling back your curtains and seeing a group of Livestock Grazing on your front lawn. Maybe you dont have too, maybe this is your reality. A, maybe you dont have too, maybe this is your reality this bunch of seven bullocks were spotted in peoples gardens and Eating Hedges after escaping from a field in east yorkshire. Good morning. No realsurprises in the forecast, it is pretty much as it has been now for several days, we will be dodging some heavy, perhaps even thundery weather again, we have somehow mixed into some of these. Forthe we have somehow mixed into some of these. For the most part, as will be light and gusty winds around these occasionally. Some sunny spells, yes, but for england and wales they wont be a huge amount of sunshine around, because this is where this area of low pressure is drifting, right across, as we go through the day had. Ijust want right across, as we go through the day had. I just want to show you the last few hours of where we have been seeing some of the rain fall, and from that low Pressure System already some downpours into south west england, South Wales, we have a line of Shows Apache ran across parts of Northern England and into southern Scotland Apache showers. There will be sunny spells on the way this morning, but notice how this batch of downpours will push through. And east throughout the day, this line will see some heavier downpours here into Southern Scotland. Themselves into Northern Ireland that could be thundery, but ireland that could be thundery, but i think Northern Scotland and Northern Ireland will be most likely to see some sunny spells around these showers and more likely some places will avoid them altogether. These are the wind speeds today. They offer the most part light, which means if you catch a shower, it could hang around for some time. Winds gusty around the downpours, strongest in the English Channel and Channel Islands. Here is where it will be quite a windy day. As the temperatures, it wont be any warm and out there, really, 12 15 for most with an Onshore Breeze warmer. Maybe ten or 11 degrees. If you sunny spells, plenty of heavy showers out there again today and into tonight, the heavy ones will last well into the night across parts of east anglia, South East england, whereas for many bases it will gradually terri drier. Still the odd shower here and there, and plenty of cloud across Eastern Parts. It will be quite low in the hills, misty and murky here dont make Clear Skies up to the west, probably Northern Ireland will see the lowest temperatures overnight, low single figures in rural spots. But for the most parts, frost in the morning. The low pressure is moving away but close enough to keep us really unsettled, and another Weather Front moving through. This is where well see the showers, downpours and thundery ones with hail through the day. You can pick it out here drifting further east. Sunny spells either side. Drifting further east. Sunny spells eitherside. More drifting further east. Sunny spells either side. More likely to see them in england and wales tomorrow compared with today, but many western areas through the afternoon will turn drier and brighter. Similar temperatures once again. Perhaps a little cooler on Monday Night and into tuesday. A touch breezy on tuesday, and an area of cloud and Patchy Rain Heading into Northern Scotland. Showers elsewhere. The heaviest downpours on tuesday will be in england and wales. Again, thundery with a chance of hail, and temperatures still really around mid to low teens across much of the uk. Do i have to show you this . I will for the rest of the week. Something a little drier and quiet on wednesday for some of us, but on thursday and friday, it looks like more rain and potentially windy weather is another area of low pressure moves in. It is the spring that keeps on not giving, isnt it . Back to you. Ijust isnt it . Back to you. I just keep isnt it . Back to you. Ijust keep telling myself we need the rain. It would be nice if it stops soon. Earlier this year, Europes Vaccination Rollout was facing criticism for being too slow and lagging behind the uk and the us. Just a few months later, some eu countries have turned their programmes around and are delivering jabs at record rates, as our Europe Correspondent Jean mackenzie reports. The joy of alfresco dining in rome. Only last month this was unimaginable. Across europe infections reached while vaccination stumbled. This was belgians largest vaccination centre. We have eight hours a day that are very well filled, so we are also at a very good, smooth capacity, good flow, as you can see. Good, smooth capacity, good flow, as you can see you can see. Early on there were production you can see. Early on there were production delays, Glitches Production delays, glitches and supply chains, and these put europe massively behind, but in the past couple of months there has been a remarkable turnaround. The vaccines are flowing freely, and more than a third of people in europe have now had their first dose. At this estate in neighbouring germany, authorities are trying to vaccinate everyone regardless of age. At one point, the country was sitting on masses of unused doses, but this week it administered a record 1. 3 million vaccines in a single day. The crowded estate, which is home to 40 the crowded estate, which is home to a0 nationalities, has been a hotspot for infections, but still many dont want get vaccinated. We are going to talk a bit about the restrictions being lifted and people being able to go on holiday to portugal from being able to go on holiday to Portugalfrom Tomorrow a being able to go on holiday to portugal from tomorrow a little later in the programme. Its time now for newswatch with samira ahmed. Hello and welcome to newswatch with me, samira ahmed. Did Bbc News get the balance and the quantity of its Election Coverage Right at The End of last week . And why did a Vox Pop with a Hartlepool Voter Cause such fury on Social Media . Politicaljunkies who may have been bemoaning the lack of any Uk Elections last year because of the pandemic had their fill of psephology at The End of last week. It all began just after the polls had closed on Thursdays News at ten. This has been a Labour Seat since the 1960s, but the tories think that theyre in with a reAl Chance now. Huw. Reeta, much more to come tomorrow, but thanks very much for now. Reeta Chakra Barti there. With me is our political editor laura kuensberg. Were always talking about stakes being high, laura, so lets just spell it out. What are the stakes for labour and the Conservatives Tomorrow . Huw edwards was back on friday. A very good morning, everyone. And on saturday. Good afternoon, everyone. And though he was taking a well earned rest on sunday, the results and analysis continued then too. Taking the mayor of peterborough and cambridgeshire. It was all too much for some viewers, such as julie from lincolnshire, who recorded her thoughts on camera for us. Last saturday afternoon, i switch on my tv to Catch Up with the latest news on Bbc One, only to find the Election Coverage on yet again. This had been reported in the morning, at lunchtime, and looking at the tv guide, had been all day. I switched to the Bbc News channel where the same programme was being shown. While i totally appreciate that News Coverage of elections is absolutely essential, having it run on all available News Channels for over 72 hours is more than excessive and totally unnecessary. Much of the focus was on scotland, where all of the holyrood seats were up for grabs and the snp eventually fell one seat short of an overall majority. Bbc scotland ran its own extensive elections programme, which Bbc One and the News Channel dipped into, rather too frequently for some viewers, including jean bessey, who felt Saturation Point had been reached by saturday. The bbc put out a statement in response to complaints like those, and it read given that range of contests, it was always going to be hard to provide a clear overall picture, assessing how well each party had performed and what results were particularly newsworthy. For some members of the audience including mick pleass, the bbc got the emphasis wrong. In the toolbox Bbc News has for conveying election results, graphics have always played an important part, with Peter Snow and his swingometre still casting a large shadow. This time round, Reeta Chakrabarti and Lewis Goodall took on the responsibility of displaying and interpreting the numbers. So lets take a look at the electoral Hill Theyve got to climb, a very slim majority here for the conservative former candidate alexander burnett, the former msp. Its the sort of council where if labour were progressing, if labour looked like they were on their way to form a government in the next general election, they should be doing really well in somewhere like lancashire. Kathleen Hampson E mailed us in these terms. And Sue Leonard had a similar reaction. The Conservatives Victory in the hartlepool By Election set the tone for much of the Election Coverage, partly perhaps because its announcement on Friday Morning came before almost all the other results across england, scotland and wales. 2a hours later, Chris Mason was out and about in the town, Finding Out why people had voted the way they had. Weve had enough of labour. Theyve just wrecked us, everything. Wrecked it . Wrecked it, totally. The hospital, we havent even got a cell where we can lock someone up on a night. We havent got a court where we can take them to court. Whats that all about . Were a big town. Yeah, you know, youve got to have these facilities, police. All the police have gone. A number of viewers contacted newswatch over this and two recorded their reactions to that interview for us. Heres paul dixon, and first, ashley tiffin. One of the interviewees directly linked the change of voting in hartlepool on labour having wrecked it, and cited the town not having a cell to lock people in or a court to try them as examples. This went totally unchallenged by mason. A simple Fact Check would show that the decision to close hartlepool Magistrates Court was one of many Court Closures across the uk in 2016 by a conservative ministry ofjustice. The reasons for voting conservative were that they had, the Labor Party had wrecked hartlepool over the last ten Years because they now had a Substandard Nhs service, a severe lack of police numbers on the beat, and also the lack of a Court Building and police cells. I really feel that in the interests of an unbiased and fair argument, in this Instance Mr Mason could have been challenged them the claim to them that it is central government who funds these and not local mps. This was another example of how unchallenged assertions in the media become alternative facts. Our democracy relies on Voting Decisions being informed by truth, and in this regard, Bbc News has been found wanting. Well, Chris Mason was also taken to task along those lines on twitter, and he responded to one complainer by saying as he mentions, many of those commenting on this may not have seen what preceded the interview, with those conservative voters, namely another Vox Pop with the voter opposed to the conservatives, and this conversation with david mcmillan, political reporter from the local Bbc Radio tees. So there is a lot going on here. So the conservatives are very much in the ascendance in that sense. Labour, though, have got problems that stretch back a long way. Its notjust about keir starmer, its notjust aboutjeremy corbyn, it goes back a long way, and one of the things they find really hard to do is that, you know, the Governments Austerity Programme affected this region, but that people seem to blame the local Labour Politicians rather than the government for that. So thats the wider context as referred to in a statement we were given. Bbc breakfast reflected a wide range of views from voters and politicians from all parties to give an insight into the hartlepool By Election. On tuesday lunchtime, Reeta Chakrabarti had been speaking to Chris Mason, back on duty again, to discuss the Queens Speech that morning, when a problem emerged, one we last featured on newswatch back in the days before the pandemic. Well, a number of economic measures were announced including investing in and improving national infrastructure. There were also plans for a Lifetime Skills guarantee in england, as chris mentioned. Man yelling in background. New planning reforms to speed up housebuilding and ambitions to encourage greater home ownership. Our Economics Respondent Andy verity has more. Yes, its the return of protesters getting their political points across, both vocally and visually, by shouting and displaying their banners in the back of shot during live broadcasts. Peter mills put the question well, we have asked bbc managers about that before and we may do so again on a future programme. Finally, the week began with a promise that some more physical contact could be just around the corner. Hugging. Were expecting the Prime Minister later to give us the Go Ahead to Hug Friends and families from next Week Sort of. Careful cuddling if you will, keeping them short and selective, not hugging lots of people, and avoiding Face To face contact. Just a proper hug. Not, no, i couldnt its not a hug. A hugs a hug, its not a push them away sort of thing. But it was all a bit much for some, including liz bailey, who asked the coverage was continuing on friday, Prompting Carl To Beg on twitter thank you for all of your comments this week. If you want to share your opinions about what you see or Hear and Bbc News, on tv, radio, online and Social Media, E Mail Newswatch or you can find us on twitter. You can call us on 0370 010 6676, and do have a look at our website. Thats all from us. Well be back to Hear your thoughts about Bbc News coverage again next week. Goodbye. Morning, this is breakfast with Rogerjohnson And Rachel burden. Good morning. Were just one day away from restrictions being relaxed further across most of the uk, meaning pubs and restaurants will be able to serve customers indoors, and social distancing guidelines relaxed. But the Prime Minister has warned the India Variant could make it more difficult to move to step four injune. Lets speak to one of our regular gps, dr rachel ward. How are you this morning, rachel . Im really well, thank you. We are having a lot good morning. Im really well, thank you. We are having a lot of good morning. Im really well, thank you. We are having a lot of people i you. We are having a lot of people feeling quite optimistic about where the country is at the moment, and heading to the next stage in england officially tomorrow, also opening up in scotland and wales as well. But in scotland and wales as well. But in the background, this indian variant which is causing real concern, where you stand on of that . How much is it dampening your optimism . How much is it dampening your otimism . ,. , optimism . Yeah. I would say that sums u optimism . Yeah. I would say that sums up my optimism . Yeah. I would say that sums up my feelings optimism . Yeah. I would say that sums up my feelings perfectly, i sums up my feelings perfectly, actually. We have a lot of reasons to feel positive, i think the Vaccine Rollout we have seen in the uk is something to be incredibly proud and positive about, and it has got into a much better estate. State. We have also been getting to the situation we have been in. So we need to feel good about the next step. However, of course the news of the increasing rate of the indian variant in the uk is causing some concern. Unfortunately were not at the stage where we just forget about covid. Its the stage where we ust forget about covid. fl. ,. , the stage where we ust forget about covid. ,. ,. ,. , the stage where we ust forget about covid. ,. , covid. Its good news there has been a surre in covid. Its good news there has been a surge in vaccination covid. Its good news there has been a surge in Vaccination Bookings covid. Its good news there has been a surge in Vaccination Bookings as i a surge in Vaccination Bookings as it was opened to 38 and 39 year olds and people getting their second jabs as well. But will that be too late for this variant, which already seems to be taking a hold in some parts of the country . Already seems to be taking a hold in some parts of the country . Yeah, so, as ou some parts of the country . Yeah, so, as you say. Some parts of the country . Yeah, so, as you say. We some parts of the country . Yeah, so, as you say. We had some parts of the country . Yeah, so, as you say, we had an some parts of the country . Yeah, so, as you say, we had an amazing some parts of the country . Yeah, so, as you say, we had an amazing surge | as you say, we had an amazing surge in people who have booked their vaccines. And thats really good news. There was a little bit of concern for the younger Age Groups, that they wouldnt come forward as readily, but they have. One staff i have one statistic i have that is incredible, three quarters of the a0a9 incredible, three quarters of the A0 A9 Year age only notified to two weeks ago, have already had one jab. We are trying to vaccinate as many people as possible, as quickly as possible, to offer us as much protection as we can. Which is going to really be what were doing going forward with new variants. For to really be what were doing going forward with new variants. Forward with new variants. For the reo. Le forward with new variants. For the people over forward with new variants. For the people over 50s. Forward with new variants. For the people over 50s, the forward with new variants. For the people over 50s, the time forward with new variants. For the | people over 50s, the time between the first and second jabs, how is that going to work out, if you already have a jab again for 12 weeks. You need to rebook it . How is it all going to work . It all going to work . Yeah, we know that one vaccine it all going to work . Yeah, we know that one vaccine gives it all going to work . Yeah, we know that one vaccine gives you it all going to work . Yeah, we know that one vaccine gives you a it all going to work . Yeah, we know that one vaccine gives you a very. That one vaccine gives you a very good degree of protection, but to get the full benefit of the vaccine, you need to have both doses. So, the theory behind bringing that forward is about, you know, we have vaccinated a huge proportion of our most vulnerable, but in order to best protect those people while there are new variants around, bringing that second dose forward a little bit. Practically, you dont need to do anything, if youve had your first dose, you will be contacted about your new date for your second one, do not be concerned, you dont need to chase that up. Practically, for us, there are a few of the districts were not sure about, because obviously were going to have a surge in people who need their second vaccine to do a little bit of a Catch Up. It is going to be a busy few weeks but we are not completely sure about how it is going to work at the moment. Right. Ok. We will see how that one plays out a bit. In terms of everything changing tomorrow, as i say, the rules officially change in england, wales, parts of scotland tomorrow. But one of the issues these gps will be able to have Face To face appointments again, and you have much been instructed to do so, havent you . Done the virtual triage for patients for so long. The winds are strongest through the English Channel, and into the Channel Islands, so its going to be quite breezy with gusts of around a0 mph. As for the temperatures, around 12 to 15 for most of us butjust ten or 11 around some of these North Sea Coast from North Yorkshire northwards. Into tonight, the heavy showers will continue, particularly across the East And South east of england, well into the night before fading. For many places it will turn drier as the night goes on. A lot of cloud in the night goes on. A lot of cloud in the east. There could be some fog into the hills. Temperatures for the most part holding up, but could turn chilli in the clearer parts of Northern Ireland. A few spots in low single figures. Produce further showers, so dont put the Umbrella Awayjust yet. The heavy and perhaps thundery showers will break out again to drift from west to east as we go on through the day, with brighter skies and fewer showers and western parts for the afternoon, and even around the showers to the east it could be thundery with hail. A few sunny spells at times. Its not going to feel any warmer. It wont indeed in the week ahead with the show is continuing. Good morning. Its sunday, may 16th. Our top story. Israeli prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has vowed to continue to respond forcefully to Rocket Attacks as the conflict with palestinians in gaza enters a seventh day. Last night, us president Joe Biden spoke by phone to the israeli Prime Minister and the palestinian leader, mahmoud abbas. Helena wilkinson reports. Within seconds, this building in gaza is reduced to rubble. It was home to journalists from the Associated Press and al jazeera tv. An hour earlier, they had been told to evacuate. Israel says the building was a target because of links to hamas, the militant group that rules gaza. Israel is doing everything possible to protect our civilians and keep palestinian civilians out of harms way. We demonstrated this yet again today when we warned civilians to vacate the building used by the hamas terror intelligence. They vacated the premises before the target was destroyed, and thats why you dont Hear of casualties from these collapsing terror towers. There have, though, been civilian casualties on both sides. Early this morning, israel targeted a house in gaza which it says belonged to a Hamas Leader. Palestinian health officials say that at least three people died and many others were injured. In an earlier israeli attack, mohammed Al Hadidi lost his wife and four young sons. His baby son, omar, whos just five months old, was the only survivor. In ramat gan, a suburb of tel aviv, a Hamas Missile killed a man in his 50s, he was reportedly hit by shrapnel in his apartment. In sheikh jarrah, there continues to be anger and tension. Us president Joe Biden has spoken to israeli and palestinian leaders ahead of a un Security Council Meeting later today. But with neither side appearing to back down, a quick breakthrough seems a distant prospect. Helena wilkinson, Bbc News. Efforts are being stepped up to combat the increase in the indian variant of coronavirus as Lockdown Restrictions are eased in england, wales and much of scotland tomorrow. It comes amid a huge demand for coronavirus jabs as the Vaccine Rollout moves to people in their thirties. Our correspondent, Daniela Relph, has more. Margaret keenan was the first back in december, but now 30 Million people in england have received their first dose of the vaccine and 15 million, thats around one in three people, have had both doses. And as the Rollout Moves to people in their 30s, there has been a huge demand for appointments. Officials say theyve witnessed a surge in bookings since thursday, when 38 and 39 year olds were allowed to book a jab. More than 611,000 first and second appointments have been made. This group will be offered the Pfizer Or Moderna vaccine, and younger people in their 30s will be called up shortly as the Vaccination Programme moves down the Age Groups. Queueing for a jab in bolton, like in other areas, efforts are being stepped up to contain the indian variant of coronavirus. But officials have stressed its not just about vaccines, more needs to be done to stop the spread. All aspects are important testing, tracing, isolation and vaccination, all really important. Its not one single solution, its working together, but also with our communities as well, to make sure we support all of this. In england, two thirds of People May have had their first dose of the vaccine, but as restrictions begin to ease, the message of Caution And Restraint remains. Daniela relph, Bbc News. From Mobile Testing Units, to a push to speed up vaccinations the government says its doing everything it can to halt the spread of the indian variant of coronavirus. Cases of the variant have more than doubled in bolton in the last week and the army is being deployed there to help carry out Surge Testing, as Kevin Fitzpatrick now reports. They are hoping to reach 10,000 people in the next couple of days reach 10,000 people in the next couple of days. So, this is where we are working, within this area, we have four groups and each of these groups have four teams that are subdivided. There has been a lot of effort in the Run Up to this, we are working with the council to inform people that we are coming, leaflet drops, working with Community Centres and all that sort of stuff. A lot of people know that we are coming and we will get a more full response. These are the tests and lives is this woman was happy to take part. Is this woman was happy to take part. Lets get more on this from professor adam finn, whos a member of Thejoint Committee on vaccination and immunisation. Hes speaking to us from france, where hes currently working. You Heard the doctor saying we need to get as many people vaccinated as quickly as possible. Have we got the means to ramp up the Vaccination Programme here in the uk . Yes. Certainly the programme here in the uk . Yes. Certainly the one programme here in the uk . Yes. Certainly the one Thing Programme here in the uk . Yes. Certainly the one thing we programme here in the uk . Jazz certainly the one thing we can programme here in the uk . Iezs certainly the one thing we can do programme here in the uk . I23 certainly the one thing we can do is to get those second doses in a little bit faster than we were before. There is clearly no shortage of people to administer these vaccines. The nhs teams are really raring to go, and we are seeing those cues and lots of people showing up to be vaccinated. The rate limiting factor is the supplier vaccine, and we really do need to think carefully about how we use doses most effectively to avert this problem and turn it into a disaster. Theres a of concern around that of course. In terms of supply, the Sunday Telegraph is saying the government would like to see A Millionjabs a day, which government would like to see A Million jabs a day, which would government would like to see A Millionjabs a day, which would be phenomenal if it was achievable, but we dont have the supply to do that just yet, although they are hoping to increase the number of doses available. What do you know about how much we have in stock at the moment . We how much we have in stock at the moment . ~ ,. , how much we have in stock at the moment . ~. ,. ,. , ~ moment . We saw some data last week, and certainly the vaccines that are and certainly the vaccines that are coming and are being used very rapidly. They are not being held backin rapidly. They are not being held back in any way. The supplies are good but still as i say the rate limiting factor, so it does mean we need to think about who we give those doses to across the whole country, because of course this is not an entirely localised problem. Do you think thats feasible, though, A Million vaccinations a date by the summer . I though, A Million vaccinations a date by the summer . Date by the summer . I think it certainly feasible in terms of L Date by the summer . I think it l certainly feasible in terms of the enthusiasm we are seeing from the population. People really do want to get vaccinated, and i think people are seeing this as something they can do to contribute to the effort. I think we can do it in terms of the willingness of the Nhs Staff to work extra hours, to work weekends, to work around the clock, so its really all down to getting supplies of vaccines sufficient to enable that to happen. Flan of vaccines sufficient to enable that to happen. Of vaccines sufficient to enable that to happen. Can i ust go back, then, to the h that to happen. Can ijust go back, then, to the reference that to happen. Can ijust go back, then, to the reference you that to happen. Can ijust go back, then, to the reference you made l that to happen. Can ijust go back, | then, to the reference you made to then, to the reference you made to the shortening of the time between the shortening of the time between the first and second doses of vaccine for the over 50s . Can you just explain very clearly why . We were told pretty recently there was a lot of scientific data to support delaying the two doses to support the uks up to now process of leaving it to 12 weeks. Why has that changed suddenly . Its leaving it to 12 weeks. Why has that changed suddenly . Leaving it to 12 weeks. Why has that changed suddenly . Its not changed suddenl. Changed suddenly . Its not changed suddenly its changed suddenly . Its not changed suddenly. Its still changed suddenly . Its not changed suddenly. Its still the changed suddenly . Its not changed suddenly. Its still the case changed suddenly . Its not changed suddenly. Its still the case that suddenly. Its still the case that the wider spacing of the two doses for the vaccines has turned out to be a wise decision overall because you do get a bigger response after that second dose. That was a decision made earlier in the year, and the evidence has supported it. Whats happened just now is that in the context of the emergence of this potentially much more infectious variant we want to be able to boost up variant we want to be able to boost up people who had first doses a little bit sooner so that they are well protected in the short term by that second dose. So you get good protection from the first dose, but it is boosted by the second dose, and in the context we know find ourselves with this rapidly emerging strain which could lead to an earlier third wave them wed predicted getting that booster early on balance in the short term is the right thing to do. In fact the difference in timing is not enormous because second doses were being given around ten or ii enormous because second doses were being given around ten or 11 weeks, rather than 12, and we are bringing it forward by a couple of weeks. So its not a massive change in terms of the size of the boosting effect, but it does mean well get more people get that fast Booster Response a little sooner. People get that fast Booster Response a little sooner. Although we know and response a little sooner. Although we know and youve response a little sooner. Although we know and youve spoken we know and youve spoken about limited supply, and thats the limiting factor in this we Heard from our gp saying we need to vaccinate the vulnerable. You could argue its people living in those hotspots of this particular variant at the moment who are the most vulnerable. So why not concentrate resources there and get through the younger Age Groups amongst whom it appears the spread of this variant is much more right . Its appears the spread of this variant is much more right . Is much more right . Its all really about the deployment is much more right . Its all really about the deployment of is much more right . Its all really about the deployment of the is much more right . Its all really. About the deployment of the Pfizer And Moderna doses weve got, and in terms of the vulnerable, its all very age dependent. If you start giving the vaccine to younger people, of course we want to protect everybody, but it does mean you will be not immunising someone in their late 30s somewhere else or even in bolton. ,. , late 30s somewhere else or even in bolton. ,. , ~ , late 30s somewhere else or even in bolton. . r , bolton. But you take my point if ou are bolton. But you take my point if you are looking bolton. But you take my point if you are looking at bolton. But you take my point if you are looking at somewhere bolton. But you take my point if. You are looking at somewhere like, lets say, cornwall, which has located rates at the moment, someone living in Bolton Or Tyneside is a more vulnerable person if they are 28 than someone who is 38 potentially in parts of cornwall. So why not give those people the vaccines first . Why not give those people the vaccines first . Actually thats not the case. What vaccines first . Actually thats not the case. What we vaccines first . Actually thats not the case. What we are vaccines first . Actually thats not the case. What we are concerned j the case. What we are concerned about is the spread of this variant throughout the country, and in fact the vaccines, particularly the first doses of vaccines, do take some time to provide protection. So we are actually very anxious to protect those people around the country in places where there isnt yet circulation of the variant so that they are protected as and when and if it does arrive. Giving young people doses of vaccine in bolton right now wont really help the situation in bolton right now because they wont actually achieve any protection for about a month, and by then things will have moved on and we will be in potentially a different situation entirely. So while getting vaccination done as fast as possible is important, we do need to think ahead a little bit as to where the situation might be in a months time. I to where the situation might be in a months time months time. I was out and about doinu months time. I was out and about doing some months time. I was out and about doing some outdoor months time. I was out and about doing some outdoor socialising, i l doing some outdoor socialising, i should say, in Manchester Yesterday very busy in the city centre, busy on public transport as well. Thats only going to ramp up when indoor hospitality ramps up from tomorrow. People are looking forward to mixing each other s houses as well, whereas there will be fewer restrictions on how close you are to someone, perhaps, less cleaning, less hygiene. How much does that worry you, particularly with the variant at the moment, that we are going to see this easing of restrictions in most parts of the united kingdom over the next few weeks . I most parts of the united kingdom over the next few weeks . Most parts of the united kingdom over the next few weeks . I have to say honestly over the next few weeks . I think we may be dealing with a significantly more infectious virus, and there is a high level of uncertainty around that, but its certainly a possibility. I can tell you that i for one, when im back in the uk next week, will be keeping myself to myself and not mixing with other people and encouraging my family and friends to do likewise. I think in the context we are in now people should be cautious. We do need to understand whats going on better, and i would urge people to be very cautious about mixing in the next couple of weeks at least. 50 cautious about mixing in the next couple of weeks at least. But interesting that he is very, very cautious about resuming normal social activities. Among the social activities people get up to on a Sunday Morning is going out for a bike ride. Ali has tweaked to this. His regular routine is watching Sunday Breakfast and going out for a bike ride. However, theres a chance that he get wet. Its a mixed picture. There are areas waking up to sunny skies, but there are others where as you can see its already raining, and even where you are starting with some sunshine, you are likely to see a shower at some stage as the day goes on, even if its not going to be a washout of the day, because its still low pressure in charge. There will be further heavy downpour is brimming. Some will be thundering with hail, but a bit of sunshine at times too. This area of low pressure is tracking through wales and much of england as we go through the rest of england as we go through the rest of the day. This is where sunshine will be really quite limited and we will be really quite limited and we will see the really quite widespread heavy downpours. Taking a look at the recent radar, rainfall picture, first part of this morning, the downpours into much of southern england, South Wales and Northern England, South Wales and Northern England as well. Between the two, dry and sunny, although there are Fog Patches, and not many showers until in Northern Ireland and scotland. Here many of us getting off to a bright start. As we take a look at the forecast through the rest of this morning and into the afternoon, these downpours spread further north and east across Northern England and into Southern Scotland, continuing with some heavy and thundery downpours breaking out more widely. Northern ireland and scotland, there are showers, and a few thundery wants, around, but for Northern Ireland in the northern half of scotland, not everyone will catch one. There will be some sunshine occasionally too. The winds are for the most part like, but if you did get into one of these downpours it could last quite a while, with Rain Totals mounting within them. The winds will be gusty around some of these. The strongest through the English Channel into the Channel Islands with average speeds of around a0 miles an hour or so. As for your temperatures, as we found recently, if you are in some sunshine, it feels quite pleasant. We are really quite easy to please at the moment with regard to that. But these are the maximum temperatures. No great shakes for this time of year, and if you are in a downpour it cools down further from this as well. Into tonight we will continue with the showers this evening and into the first part of the night is the low Pressure Movement to the East And South east of england before eventually these will fade too. For many it is drier during the second half of the night. The cloud to the east could be low in places, which means on the hills it will be faulty. To the west, Clear Skies, it will be faulty. To the west, clearskies, probably it will be faulty. To the west, Clear Skies, probably chilli austin Northern Ireland with a few spots here into low single fingers, but we are not looking at frost. Tomorrow, low pressure still close enough to provide showers through the day with some sunny spells too. Drifting from west to east as the day goes on. Sunny skies with fewer showers in the west through the afternoon. In terms of that temperature, it really isnt going to feel any warmer, nor will it in the week ahead. Lovely. Thank you very much. A little bit of sarcasm there. Youre watching Bbc Breakfast. The Andrew Marr Show is coming up on Bbc One at 9am. Lets find out what he has in store. Andrew, what have you got on the programme this morning . Good morning to you. Lots of questions this morning, i think, about the indian variant of coronavirus how fast is it spreading around the country, how well ill be protected by the vaccines and britains open border issues as well . Ill posting questions to matt hancock, the governments scientific advisor, and yvette cooper, the Labour Mp who has been particularly critical of the open borders issue. Because this is only the second biggest crisis that faces humanity at the moment, im also talking about global warming, climate change and all of that with Joe Bidens envoy on that subject, john kerry. So busy, quite serious hour nine oclock. Israel has carried out more airstrikes in the Gaza Strip in the early hours of this morning, seven days after the latest violence erupted. Earlier, the israeli Prime Minister, benjamin netanyahu, said his government would continue to respond forcefully until security was restored. Bbc diplomatic Correspondent Paul adamsjoins us now from jerusalem. Good morning. It sounds like there is no imminent end to whats going on there. Thats right. Certainly there isnt. We had another quite familiar activity now, with hamas launching volleys of rockets into israel. No casualties on the israeli side as far as we are aware, but rockets did fall in and around several israeli cities. At the same time of course the israelis have been carrying on their pretty relentless Air Assault on gaza. Interestingly, one of the targets overnight was the home of the Hamas Leader in gaza, whose home was destroyed. I think this has been one of the key features of this campaign by the israelis, that they have gone after a lot of senior figures, both military and political, of the hamas militant organisation. I think we are going to see more of that, because there is a clear determination on the part of the israelI Government to do as much damage to hamas as it possibly can before the pressure for a ceasefire becomes too intense. As weve also seen, tragically, although they may say they are going off to hamas figures, they are also catching civilians in the crossfire. There are some terrible stories starting to emerge. Yes. Its interesting the israelis insist i was listening to a briefing Last Night that around 75 of the iao also casualties so far reported are indeed hamas fighters. They believe that we in the media are giving a very false impression of the nature of the costs being paid by the palestinians living in the Gaza Strip. But the Gaza Strip being the kind of place it is, a densely populated area with hamas in and around the civilian population, both by necessity and by intent, there is an absolute inevitability that there will be civilian casualties in the process of this. By casualties in the process of this. By the latest told we reckon that around a0 children have been among the victims of this campaign. The israelis argue that as long as there is a significant military justification for a target and efforts are Ta Ken to justification for a target and efforts are taken to try and minimise civilian casualties, then those places can be targeted. Unfortunately in that situation it is absolutely an inevitability that civilians are caught up. We are starting to see protest against what is happening there in this country and probably other parts of the world as well i dont know. But i wonder, whats the political imperative here . Is there actually political will to sort this out, or does it in some Way Suit the israeli leader, benjamin netanyahu, and hamas for this to continue . Both have got points to make. Hamas has been determined to show that it is the most effective, legitimate defender of palestinian rights. Its cost this whole campaign is an effort to defend the rights of palestinians injerusalem, and that is a direct threat to the other half of the palestinian leadership the palestinian authority based on the west bank. So thats been the political objective of hamas. As far as the israelis are concerned, yes, it has certainly served benjamin netanyahu. He has emerged as a strong figure at a time when he is fighting for his political career. And also, as i mentioned before, there is this very strong desire not just to inflict some damage to hamas but to make it really, really difficult for them to operate in the future, and thats why i think we are going to see this going on for a few more days as the israelis carry on hitting the targets that they feel they have to do before this is all over. Thank you very much indeed for talking to us. We are very grateful to you. Were here on the Bbc News channel until nine oclock this morning. It could be in the bag. They could mirror the achievements made by arsenal of those Years ago. Arsenal of those Years ago. Lets have a look at the weather. Nick, it looks quite nice in cheshire . It is there is some sunshine out there across some areas of the uk, but i think the word is evenif of the uk, but i think the word is even if your days starting off like this, you are probably going to see a heavy shower at some stage of the day, because that is very much the forecast. Again, there will be some downpours with paler times, but also around these areas, sunshine to be had, too. Its all because, well, no surprise, an area of low Pressure Close by. This one is drifting across wales and england through the day. Its where we will see most of the cloud, even starting with sunshine, most of the downpours as well. Already here across large parts of southern england, South Wales, joe is affecting northern counties of Northern England at the moment. For much of scotland and Northern Ireland, and in fact, away from the showers from england and wales there is a lot of fine weather to begin the day. I could get ready for those clouds to build. As they will. In fact, the showers will drift further North East as we go through the day. We have that cloudy zone and a few showers in Northern England. It may brighten up a bit but the showers will get heavier and maybe thundery. Some of these will be thundering in Northern Ireland and in Highland Scotland. In the central belt, Northern Scotland, many areas and Northern Ireland, too, not many showers around, in fact, you may be avoiding them all together and stay dry if you are venturing out. Late winds for the most part. If you do catch a downpour, it may well be prolonged. The winds around some of the showers may be on the gusty side. Its quite windy to the English Channel and Channel Islands today, these are the average speeds where you could see gusts of up to a0 miles an hour or so. And as the temperatures stay where they are for quite a while now. In the mid teens. The North Sea Coast, yorkshire, they could see ten or ii. Coast, yorkshire, they could see ten or . Nine coast, yorkshire, they could see ten or ii. Nine or coast, yorkshire, they could see ten or . Nine orten coast, yorkshire, they could see ten or ii. Nine or ten in shetland. The showers will be around this evening, but some sunny spells to end the day. The showers will continue into eastern areas of england before moving away along with the area of low pressure. We are left with a largely dry into the night. A lot of cloud to the east with some hill fog. Clear skies in the west with lower temperatures, so in Northern Ireland, for example, low single figures in rural spots as we start the day tomorrow. This area of low pressure has moved into the north sea, but its close enough to keep the area unsettled, and this will be the focus of the showers tomorrow. You may start dry with variable cloud and sunny spells, but yet again you can see this process is under way now. Through the morning the showers get going and they will drift east during the day. Across western parts as the afternoon goes on, fewer showers, more in the way of Sunshine Tour and the day, and your temperatures again around about the midteens. Low pressure to end the midteens. Low pressure to end the week. Wednesday may be a bit quieter, but its wet and also potentially windy later in the week. We will keep you updated on that system as it comes our way. Not muchjoy for outdoor socialising, not much joy for outdoor socialising, but as we were saying, theres been a need for rain recently. Its good for the growers. An enormous push to treble the amount of trees being planted in england will be launched by the government this week. The project aims to help reach the uks climate goals. The government aims to plant 30,000 hectares of trees a year by 202a. That equals around 100 Million trees a year. They are currently only planting around 2,500 hectares of trees per year. What weve i to things like books. Absolutely. Hi, everyone. What weve seen i to things like books. Absolutely. | hi, everyone. What weve seen in to things like books. Absolutely. I hi, everyone. What weve seen in my school is that the youngest children have been impacted the most over the last 12 months. Obviously that is due to a number of factors, but the biggest one for us that we see is how difficult it is to support that early reading remotely and for parents to support us in that way. What weve also seen is further up the school the older children, theres been an impact in terms of their reading particularly. So wed expect for the moment within our year 6 cohort for about 80 of them to be on track with their reading, and what we are seeing is about 65 of them on track. This is more prevalent with the disadvantaged groups. Across Crossover School 61 we have those people in that disadvantaged group, which includes families with no public funds, access to that. And the gap has widened over the last 12 months. There is some kind of statistics or evidence to suggest its not poverty perse evidence to suggest its not poverty per se that really limits the Childs Life chances but if you grow up Childs Life chances but if you grow up in a household without books, that can also have a profound impact. Often the parents in those families work in low paid jobs, often more than one, and for them the priority, especially over the last 12 months and beyond, is food. Its not books. We demonstrated this yet again today when we warned civilians to vacate the building used by the hamas terror intelligence. They vacated the premises before the target was destroyed, and thats why you dont Hear of casualties from these collapsing terror towers. There have, though, been civilian casualties on both sides. Thank you, Mark Logan Heres Nick with a look at this mornings weather. As much as we might think the weather has been a bit rubbish recently there are some lovely moments still to be had out there. Spring marches on regardless of the weather and this is a lovely view from Highland Scotland this morning. There is a bit of sunshine out there if you look hard enough this morning but showers may get going. They are already out there for some of us and as they develop they will be heavy and thundery in places. The chance of some hail showers. Low pressure moving through wales and England And Tjy moving through wales and england and by this afternoon we will see here the least amount of sunshine and some of the heaviest downpours, prolonged in places and the past few hours of rainfall, really spreading and across southern england, parts of wales. There are some into Northern England as well. Away from the showers could be you are starting your day with sunshine. This is how the goes on. These downpours will spread further north and east into areas starting with sunshine. This shower in northern England And Scotland get heavy and maybe thundery. A few developing into Highland Scotland but in much of scotland and Northern Ireland we will see fewer showers and more sunshine this afternoon. The winds for the most part are light which means if you catch a downpour it could hang around for some time with the Rain Totals mounting as a result. It could be quite dusty around some of the showers and the winds are strongest with in the Channel Islands average winds gusting at a0 mph. Temperatures where they have been for several days, mid to low teens and maybe around the North Sea Coast and North Yorkshire 10 degrees to ii around the North Sea Coast and North Yorkshire 10 degrees to 11 degrees. The showers are still around this evening and will continue into the first part of the night across eastern england before fading and by The End of the nights many places are dry. A lot of cloud on the east. Low cloud and places and possibly hill fog. A few spots in Northern Ireland into low single figures although mostly frost free going into tomorrow morning. Low Pressure Tomorrow has moved away but close enough to keep the showers going in this Weather Front moves across us tapping those up through the day. The showers start to get going, they are heavy and maybe thundery again. They spread gradually eastwards into the afternoon leaving many western areas with a lot of dry weather by Monday Afternoon and some of that sunshine. Temperatures where they will be throughout the week ahead, further showers at times and potentially some wet and very windy weather later in the week. Its what a lot of us have longed for, a much needed break away in the sunshine, and for those booked to go on holiday to portugal from tomorrow, that will become a reality. The country is on the uks Green List meaning travellers do not need to isolate when they return home. And its a welcome move for businesses there that rely so much on tourism as Nick Beake reports. So, here it is the sea, the sand, the sunshine. Finally, once again, this will be a reality for british holiday makers, and they will be on their way in less than 2a hours from now. And here on the algarve, they are absolutely delighted. This place is so reliant on tourism, and for the past 1a, 15 months, they have really been hit hard during the covid pandemic. If you look at the stats at the local airport, faro, in a normalyear, around half of all arrivals would be coming from the uk. And with them, they bring about half £1 billion, really boosting the portuguese economy, and thats why we need them at the moment on the beaches, in hotels and restaurants there, putting all the last minute touches together, waiting for this first wave of british tourists coming back once again. And once they get here, they will find that their own they will find that there isnt a need to quarantine, people will be able to eat indoors and outdoors, you will see some masks and there are social distancing rules. Were joined now by daisy sampson, editor of the portugal news, and james frost, who runs a vineyard on the countrys west coast. Daisy, there is some statistic about Lisbon Or Portugal in general it has more days of sunshine almost than any other part of continental europe and it looks lovely they are today. I tell you what, though, it is true that weve spent so much time apart in the last year that when we do see people in the reals, you really notice the difference. My Parents Cant believe how much my kids have grown since they last saw them. And thats kind of what were talking about today the fact that even though were all getting older on the outside, there are ways to stay younger on the inside by hacking our health. Now, if youre anything like me you may be using an Activity Tracker to log your exercise. But at the moment, were just scratching the surface of the data thats hidden inside our bodies. Aside from exercise, theres genetics, sleep, diet so many other lifestyle factors that can really make a difference. And there are some people who believe that if we can unlock this complete picture of our health, then we might be able to stop or even reverse the ageing process. Instead of talking about lifespan, were now talking about Health Span the desire to stay as fit and healthy as possible for as long as possible, even though the Years are ticking on by. Though the Years have been clocking up on this fine frame, my chronological age, therefore, is 47 but there is something else called a biological age, which is the age that you are inside. Now, ive had that checked. Have a guess at the results. Um, 21 . Now she is just is taking the mickey. Lets find out. Kings genomics centre part of a world leading Research University in london, and where im discovering the secrets in my dna. So james, a few weeks ago, i spat into a tube and posted it to you. Youre welcome. My epigenetic age is. 44. 1. Not too bad yeah, so your biological age, its basically seeing how your cells are ageing, the various things such as your diet, how much stress youre under, how much sleep youre getting. Its a nice barometer to predict your future health. My genes didntjust deliver one age though. Muhdo uses artificial intelligence to trawl through 850,000 different biological markers to deliver different ages for different body parts. For example, my Eye Age is 53 but my Hearing-age'>Hearing Age is 43. 7. And the key thing that scientists now know is that although your genes do set you on your lifes course, they are not set in stone. Your genetics will underpin most of your predispositions, so theyll give you a positive or a negative. Whether that actually comes into fruition is up to you, really, because you flick on these genes with your lifestyle and environment. The company has run tests with some 2,500 people, but more research will be needed to take some of its advice from anecdotal evidence to scientific fact. What works for me will not work for you and vice versa, but well be able to actually pinpoint what your diet needs to look like, how much stress you can be exposed to, what pharmaceuticals you can and cannot take. We can pinpoint them exactly, specifically, to you. Ok, im going to try to go to bed maybe an hour earlier. Im going to go for a walk in the morning. Whats that going to do to my biological age . So it gamifies genetics. Muhdo has partnered with Kings College london, where experts say that our biological Age Isnt fixed. And in fact, it doesnt have to progress in just one direction. The ageing, or biological score, is malleable. The risk of getting an age related disease, such as diabetes, can be increased or decreased based on your lifestyle. And thats led some people who ive met in the past to suggest that we might be able to stop the ageing process altogether. Most notably aubrey de gray, who famously suggested that within the next century, we might be able to extend our lifespan by hundreds of Years. We develop ways at the molecular and cellular level to repair the damage that the body does to itself throughout life. Theres a lot of talk about stopping the ageing process or even reversing the ageing process. Towards The End of my lifetime, probably, i think we can have immortality, if youre willing to pay for it. Now, genetic trackers are not the only Testing Tool to help counter ageing. Another company has analysed things called glycans in my blood. These have given me an idea of the age of my immune system. In this case, were looking at sugars on immunoglobulin, which is the most abundant antibodies, so its a key weapon in our arsenal in our immune system. Now, youve measured my biological age at 20. I was flattered for a few seconds and i thought no, that cant be right. A 40 50 year old can have a much younger glycan age, and thats really good for you. If youre talking about grey hairs or skin, then i would use a different clock for that. Now, all of these different numbers attached to different bits of my body are leading me to think that we are using the wrong word here. A biological score would be a more sensible way of thinking about your age. And the fact that you can change your biological score is very positive. Its not all Doom And Gloom im set to be old and decrepit at a certain time in my life. This can be slowed down or even reversed. Whatever your personal measurement is, scores like this could flag impending ill health with studies spotting that a change in your glycans could signal oncoming arthritis, cardiovascular Disease Or Diabetes up to a decade before onset. Our dataset is really good, so its 150,000 people that some which weve followed for 20 30 Years. Its a warning where you can still do something about it and prevent it. And just a small warning a good score now doesnt give you a free pass to a healthy future. So it changes its not something thats going to stay the same throughout. And this is a way for you to know if something particularly works for you. When it comes to those living with dementia, a new Brain Analysis Tool could help provide earlier diagnosis and even, potentially, assist in creating better drugs to help. Jen copestakes been Finding Out more. Using tools to monitor patients remotely has become more pressing since the coronavirus pandemic. A collaborative study called Radar Ad aims to help see how alzheimers patients can be monitored in new and improved ways. One of the assessment tools in the study is an augmented Reality App called altoida, which is showing spatial Navigation And Memory function. It works by asking the person to choose three virtual objects and place them around a room. They then have to remember where they placed the objects, what order it was and what the actual object was. Device go to where you want to place the Heart. As well as this memory test, off the Shelf Technology like fitbits and cameras are being repurposed too. This is a Medallion Camera that the participant wears around their neck, and it captures digital photographs on a cyclic basis. So it doesnt take constant footage but it does provide valuable contextual information. While alzheimers is not a movement disorder, Gait Analysis trackers can gather useful data points. Two go on the instep of each foot and then the final one goes on the right hip. We do know that as cognitive decline worsens it does cause changes in walking patterns, so they might suddenly change direction or stop because theyre not sure where they are, theyve realised theyre going in the wrong direction. In the uk, over 850,000 people are living with dementia. Do you want me to run through the instructions again briefly . Normally, dementia is diagnosed through a series of Paper Memory tests, in person, with a doctor. But these tests lack nuance and can be learned by the patient over time. John hart and his partner Richard Pinder are here in Crowborough Hospital in east sussex testing a new app called cognetivity which aims to prevent this. So if you see an animal, youre clicking on the right side of the screen. Johns recently been diagnosed with alzheimers disease. There were many verbal tests and number tests. Im used to people respecting me and not asking silly questions. To be in that position i think was difficult at first, really. Instead of lists of questions, the app flashes rapid images. Each picture is either an image of an animal or not an animal. The user indicates their choice by pressing the left or right side of the ipad screen. As it cannot be learned, the test gives an objective analysis of the patient s neurological state, even when repeated multiple times. What the test does is use what we call rapid visual categorisation. And its really looking to see how quickly the brain can process complicated information. Is it always an animal or a landscape . Its always an animal or not an animal. And thats actually a very important aspect of the test because the human brain is very finely tuned to be able to pick up on animal stimuli. The use of this will make it easier to assess larger numbers of patients, but more importantly, it speeds the Referral Process and results in early diagnosis and early treatment for patients which is exceptionally important. Another possible way to remotely measure cognitive function is through brainwave analysis. Headsets like this one from belfast Brainwave Bank could be used at home to track changes in Brain Activity. The Eeg Scanner connects with a Smartphone App to record and analyse data. As subtle changes in Brain Activity can be observed up to ten Years before symptoms of dementia present, these technologies could all be vital in early diagnosis. And the more individual data thats collected can also feed into Bespoke Treatment plans and drug development. Thats it for the short version of this weeks click. You consider the success he has had in the Premier League and now the Fa Cup. He he has had in the Premier League and now the Fa Cup now the Fa Cup. He was always going to do well. 21,000 fans at wembley felt as loud as a capacity crowd. They were treated to a brilliant goal and witnessed a special moment in leicesters history, Fa Cup winners for the first time after beating chelsea i 0. This was a goal worthy of winning any cup final, from youri tielemans, the Belgium Midfielder with a brilliant strike in the second half. And there were match winning moments at the other end, Kasper Schmeichel with some superb saves to keep chelsea out until very late on they thought theyd equalised, only for it to be ruled offside by var. So at the fifth attempt, leicester got their hands on the cup at last. Its an historical day for the football club. Winning the Fa Cup for the first time in their history is clearly a special day, so im just so happy for the players. They were so courageous in the game. For the supporters, they have lost four finals, and now the fifth time, we have got a victory. And of course for the family, it was a dream of theirs to win the Fa Cup, and we have been able to deliver that. A really emotional day for everyone associated with The Club. Contrasting emotions for West Ham in the Premier League, with their Champions League hopes all but over. Said benrahma scored a brilliant late equaliser as they drew with brighton. It leaves them sixth, five points off fourth placed chelsea with two games remaining. Great scenes as well for rangers whove gone the entire scottish Premiership Season unbeaten. This is where i say goodbye, i am off to read the news for Andrew Marr on Bbc One. But before i take my leave. Every morning our Weather Presenters showcase a beautiful picture sent in by one of our viewers, and behind every one theres a person with a story to tell. One of them is tony pockley. Hes been going to bridlington seafront every morning for four Years to capture the sunrise, as Crispin Rolfe reports. Meet tony. Ive been doing it for the last four Years. This is a beautiful Weather Watchers picture. Because i dont sleep on a night. He is a Weather Watcher. From bridlington in east yorkshire. Since i was diagnosed with parkinsons, the tablets stop me sleeping and i seem to be restricted to four hours a night. I like to be out and about, so while i can, while i am able, i come out and take a few pictures of the sunrises. We get some very colourful mornings. Its something i never really noticed when i was going to sea all my life, the reflections and the colours you get are so different each morning, its always a surprise. Tonys pictures have featured behind weather forecasters across the bbc. Its looking like a beautiful day. | you have managed to get a Weather Photo behind almost every Weather Presenter worth getting one. It took me a long time to get carol, but eventually i got her. Ijust send them into the bbc Weather Watchers site. Thats the only place i send them. One of my favourite part of this job, hands down, is checking the bbc Weather Watchers sites. So its very important in helping us get the forecast right, but its also very important in helping us tell the weather story. So this is how the bbc Weather Watcher website looks. We can see all of the recent reports that you have been sending in while you have been out and about and pick our favourites. Once it has been saved in the right place, voila, as if by magic, it is automatically behind my name, and therefore me, when i do the weather forecast. Of course, tonys pictures also helped put bridlington on the map. Its a reminder of what anyone can do with just a simple camera and an early start. Crispin rolfe, Bbc News. Some stunning pictures. It helps when you have got an incredible location. I dont know if this is this morning, no, it is Thursday Morning, it is one of his works of art. Yes, its just a shame that i am spoiling it. But you can see what he was getting across there, with another gorgeous sunrise on Thursday Morning in bridlington. Im not too bad a start today. There may be a bit of sunshine where you are, but the showers are likely to get going once again today, and some of them are going to be quite heavy, thundery, with a view sunny spells in between. An area of low pressure is moving in through wales and england with the focus of the heaviest downpours, but also some showers in scotland and Northern Ireland. Lets see how things are shaping up on the recent radar picture. This is where we have already seen some showers today, particularly across southern counties of england, South Wales, parts of Northern England and the east of Northern Ireland. Elsewhere, there may be some sunshine to begin there may be some sunshine to begin the day. Showers in the south west although the macro move further north and east. Some will turn heavier in the north. A view for Northern Ireland, a view for Northern Scotland, but not everyone will catch on. There will be some sunny spells around at times, but with light winds, the showers may hang around for some time. The winds are stronger through the English Channel and Channel Islands, gusting up to 40 mph. Temperatures today around the mid teens, a little cooler across some North Sea Coasts. The showers are still around this evening, and they will be into the first part of they will be into the first part of the night across particularly Eastern Parts of england, before they begin to ease away. We are left with a lot of dry weather by The End of the night. Largely cloudy to the east, clearer to the west and no frost as monday begins. Low pressure is still close by on monday, so still the focus of some showers. They will tend to drift from west to east as we go through the day. Still some heavy, potentially thundery, but largely dying out from western parts during the afternoon to leave more sunshine to end the day. More showers and occasionally wet and windy weather to come. Thank you, nick.
