In israel since the fighting began on monday. Our correspondent Paul Adams reports from jerusalem. In the dark of another long night in gaza, a desperate search for signs of life. A four Storey Building in a densely packed Refugee Camp hit repeatedly, according to eyewitnesses, and razed to the ground. The Rescue Operation was frantic. Yielding only a catalogue of death. Two families, obliterated, at least seven people, including five children aged from five to 14. Mohammed hadidi has lost almost everyone. His wife and the children were staying with her brother when the missiles struck. Little omar is all he has left, found in the rubble next to his mother. Israels military has yet to comment on the attack, but images released overnight display an operation that shows no sign of letting up. Israel says its up to hamas to stop firing first. Thats not happening either. This, the aftermath of a Rocket Attack in the city of beersheba. There were no israeli casualties reported overnight, but the rockets are, as always, indiscriminate. Sirens wail this is a solemn day across the palestinian territories. In ramallah on the west bank, sirens sounded to mark the 73 years since the creation of the state of israel and the dispossession of hundreds of thousands of palestinians. On the streets of israels mixed cities wherejews and arabs live Side By side, uneasy quiet this morning after nights of shocking violence. This is jaffa, scene of Fresh Disturbances last night, now almost deserted. Fear and hatred tugging away at the fabric of israeli society. Our correspondent Paul Adams is injerusalem for us now. Bring us up to date with whats been happening this morning. Bring us uptodate with whats been happening this morning. Happening this morning. Yeah, victoria, happening this morning. Yeah, victoria. In happening this morning. Yeah, victoria, in the happening this morning. Yeah, victoria, in the last happening this morning. Yeah, victoria, in the last hour happening this morning. Yeah, victoria, in the last hour or happening this morning. Yeah, victoria, in the last Hour Or Sol victoria, in the last hour or so weve had another salvo of rockets from the Gaza Strip which have been fired quite deep into israel. One rocket landed in a suburb of Tel Aviv and we are told that one man died there. That brings the israeli civilian Death Toll now i think to ten, and there has been some Fighting Talk from hamas leaders. They say they are prepared for Firing Rockets at Tel Aviv for the next six months, almost certainly a pretty idle boast, but speaks to the determination of the islamic group to keep up the fighting as long as it can. Meanwhile the israeli Defence Forces have commented in a bit more detail on that attack on gaza which killed so many people. They confirmed they hit a building in that Refugee Camp which they described as an apartment used as Terror Infrastructure by hamas. They said the israeli Defence Forces attacked a number of senior hamas officials and repeated an allegation they have made in the past which is that hamas used civilians as effectively as Human Shields to cover their operation. That is the israeli take on what happened and gaza overnight. Paul israeli take on what happened and gaza overnight. Gaza overnight. Pauladams, in jerusalem. Gaza overnight. Pauladams, in jerusalem, many gaza overnight. Pauladams, in jerusalem, many thanks. People eligible for a vaccine in areas where the Coronavirus Indian variant is spreading are being urged to get the jab. The government says testing for the variant is being carried out in parts of scotland, london, the midlands, and also in the North West of england where the army is to be deployed to help with Surge Testing efforts. Our Health Correspondent Katherine Da Costa reports. Excuse me, keep walking. Large numbers turned out again in bolton this morning waiting to get theirjab. A rapid deployment of extra doses, tests and Contact Tracers have been drafted in, as Authorities Race to contain the more contagious indian variant. Over the last Week Weve expanded it into marquees because we started the week with just 300 people being vaccinated each day and four vaccinators. Today were going to have 42 vaccinators and we are aiming to do 4,000 pfizer vaccines. There have been calls to immunise younger adults in Hotspot Areas like Bolton And Blackburn, but Health Experts say age is still the biggest risk factor. The gap between doses for the Over 50s and vulnerable groups will be shortened to eight weeks to boost short term immunity, and theres an extra push to reach those who have yet to come forward. There is a bit of a Trade Off here because we know that 12 weeks is better for longer Term Protection, but we think that there is enough of a crisis with this particular virus in the country at the moment to make sure that we get those individuals that have only had their first dose fully protected as quickly as possible. There is concern over what the impact will be when indoor mixing returns next week. Some estimates suggest the indian variant already accounts for around a third of all cases. Ministers say its too soon to know what the variant will mean for ending lockdown measures next month. We dont know how much more transmissible it is yet. So if its a low increase in transmissibility, that wouldnt fundamentally, necessarily, change things. L if its a high level then we would have to look carefully at what happens on the 215t Ofjune and consider that day. So we just have to be a bit cautious. We dont yet know the answer on that transmissibility. Around 1,000 covid patients are still in hospitals across the uk, the lowest level since mid september. But about a third of adults are still unvaccinated. Its now an anxious wait to see whether new infections translate to an increase in Hospital Admissions in the coming weeks. Katharine da costa, Bbc News. China has become the latest country to land a spacecraft on the surface of mars. The rover has been circling the planet since february. Well, over 20,000 fans will be at wembley this afternoon, for one of sports most famous occasions, the Fa Cup final. Chelsea have won it eight times, but despite making four Finals Leicester have never lifted the trophy, and its been half a century since they last had the chance, as Patrick Gearey reports. Commentator and its curtains for leicester, i as the irishman smashes it home. Wembley is no place for regrets, but four times in 20 Post War Years Cup final day ended in tears for Leicester City. The last of their stumbles came three months before neil armstrongs Famous Small Step in 1969. While man has been back to the moon, Leicester Havent returned to the cup final until now. 6,000 of their fans will be there to see it, and some have waited 52 years for that giant leap. Come on i never thought it would be this long before i was back again. Weve never won it. Weve been here four times, as everybody knows, and weve lost form at times. And weve lost four times. Its the holy grail, and its become this. Almost like a millstone round our neck that would quite like to get rid of. So much has happened since. Just five years ago, leicester pulled off the greatest shot in English Football history by winning the Premier League. Two years after that thrilling victory came in appalling tragedy. Lesters owner, vichai srivaddhanaprabha, was killed leicesters owner, vichai srivaddhanaprabha, was killed in a Helicopter Crash outside the king power stadium. His memory remains in motivation. Id love to win it for vichai and his family. Lineker in seven years playing for his beloved leicester, Gary Lineker never reached the final. Now of course hes a regular there. Good afternoon from wembley. He was also at wembley back in 69 and cried All The Way Home something he probably couldnt get away with on tv. If i could speak to my eight year old self again now about going back to wembley, with leicester, it would be, dont be so confident, because it can go wrong. Hopefully it wont this time, for the 60 year old thats going back to wembley, to watch his team again. Its been a long wait. Lets hope it was a worthwhile wait. Both Chelsea And Leicester have work to do in the league. Theyre not yet assured of a place in the top four. But cup final day demands tunnel vision. No distractions, no regrets. More now on the centenary events being held to mark 100 years of the Royal British Legion. Lets speak to alex owen, who is head of armed Forces Engagement at the charity. For younger members of our audience who want to learn more about you, tell us why the Royal British Legion was formed 100 years ago. It isa it is a really great question. I served in the army for ten years. In 1921 and the ashes of the first World War thousands and thousands of people came back to a country that was destitute, they had no jobs, they were hungry, homeless, and something had to be done. Organisations came together to help but they were bitter rivals until that time. They came together and said lets make something happen here and they created the british legion so they could continue to look to the future of our Armed Forces and campaign against injustices, provide Welfare Support and keep the flame burning forever. In practical terms for members of the Armed Forces how do you help them . Irate the Armed Forces how do you help them . , the Armed Forces how do you help them . We campaigned tirelessly in them . This year we had the question on the census about their so for the first time we know we are veterans will be and we can provide the right services and support to help them with their varying and complex needs. Day to day really important life changing and life saving interventions and Welfare Support across the community in the heart of the community and a lot of that is down to our vast membership, 220,000 members across this country and overseas who are vital. The man that came up with Around The World . In 1921 it was dire. The man that came up with the unknown warrior walked the length of the country to see what it was like and he slept in Doss Houses with people who were literally at their wits end, destitute, no employment, couldnt feed their families, it was absolutely terrible, and he said we need the british legion to be able to cope with this and that is exactly what happened and from that moment they have been looking to the future of the Armed Forces and will continue to do that into the next 100 years. My generation have benefited from the rbl during the iraq and afghan wars. During my char it was every other day there was a soldier coming back with a life changing Injury Due to a blast so the Royal British Legion funded a centre with Imperial College London and that did pioneering research and help those who had been injured. Thank you very much. Lets return now to those efforts to tackle the rising number of cases of the India Coronavirus Variant in parts of the uk. Professor Adam Finn is from Thejoint Committee on vaccination and immunisation. He epxlained why vaccines are not going to be offered to all over 18s in places like Bolton And Blackburn despite Helath Officlals there calling for that. This is something of a balancing act, isnt it . The truth is that a dose of vaccine given to one person is a dose of vaccine not given to another, at least certainly the vaccines we are offering to people under the age of a0 at the moment. We need to figure out what is the best use to be made of the doses that we have available. Giving vaccines is not an instant remedy for an outbreak. It takes some time. I was very impressed with the Vaccine Bus we just saw and people queuing up but nevertheless any of those people receiving a first dose of Vaccine Today will not really start to get any benefit for at least two or three weeks from now and thats really quite slow, so we do need to use the vaccines around the country to try to protect populations to stop these outbreaks from happening and we do need to try to focus on primarily giving the vaccine doses to people who are most likely to get sick. It sounds like you are saying giving the vaccine to all over 18s now would not stop this outbreak in places like Bolton And Blackburn because it takes a few weeks for immunity. Thats right. It would not be an instant remedy by any means at all and it would mean that other people elsewhere or even in bolton could not receive those doses, so the supply of vaccines is in fact of the three potential limiting factors is the main one at the moment. Theres no shortage of Nhs Staff to give these vaccines and as you saw there is no shortage of people coming forward to receive vaccines but we do have to use the vaccines we have as judiciously as we can to try and protect the whole population against a further wave and further sickness and death. Over 50s, by and large, having the astrazeneca vaccine, whereas younger people under 40s having moderna and pfizer, so it is not like if you give that to an 18 year old you are depriving an over 50 of a second dose because it is a different vaccine. The person you are depriving if you give the vaccine to a 20 year old is a 38 year old. Understood. That 38 year old is just as likely to be transmitting to other people but is more likely to get seriously ill. I dont understand why the second jab for Over 50s is being brought forward from 12 weeks to eight weeks because we were told if you leave it for 12 weeks it is better protection. Yeah, youre right. It is a very delicate judgment and if things had gone on as they had been we would have been leaving that delay as it was. In practice it was more like ten or 11 weeks rather than 12 that the doses were being given but in the current circumstance with this uncertainty about the threat of a third wave being brought forward sooner getting that extra boost in the short term outbalances the benefit of giving the dose slightly later and getting slightly more protection and long Term Protection later. It is a very trickyjudgment to work out what is the best thing to do but we really are concerned about the possibility of an accelerated and larger third wave and we want to try to ensure against that as quickly as we can. What is your view about the plan for england anyway for restrictions being completely loosened onjune the 21st . Now we are talking about this indian variant spreading. It is a big Question Mark as to how things will go. I know that is going to be Bad News for a lot of people particularly businesses planning to get back into business again but i think all along the so called Road Map has been provisional on how things go with the programme, how things go with the epidemic, and so i guess we just have to wait and see what happens not only in Bolton And Bedford and london but right across the country over the next two or three weeks and if things go pear shaped plans will have to be changed. Lets just take you live to Central London where a March Organised by the palestine Solidarity Campaign is under way making its way to the israeli embassy. Organisers of the march see immediate action is needed by the british government to help and the brutal violence against the palestinian people, they say. Marchers gathered at midday and they are going to be addressed by the former labour leaderjeremy corbyn. Debenhams closes its remaining Shops Today after more than 240 years on the high street. It went into administration in 2019 after several years of falling sales. Our business correspondent, emma simpson, reports. The final few hours. Not much left for the Bargain Hunters now. These stores reopened after lockdown to allow the remaining stock to be cleared. The last 28 shops closed today. The end of an era. Debenhams roots can be traced back to 1778, with a draper s store in West London selling fabrics, hats and umbrellas. By the 1950s it was the uks biggest Department Store and it continued to expand, pulling shoppers in with its famous Blue Cross sales. But it failed to keep up with the competition. Its problems were years in the making. It first collapsed in 2019. The pandemic then finished it off as it failed to find a buyer. By christmas The Business was being wound down, with 12,000 job losses. Its one of the biggest Retail Failures since woolworths, emblematic of the Retail Shake out as shopping habits change. The chain was an Anchor Store in many town centres, and its demise will leave large gaps for landlords and local authorities to fill. Emma simpson, Bbc News. Now its time for a look at the weather with matt taylor. Hello. I dont think any of us can deny its been an unusually cool may so far. If youre wondering where the warmth is this weekend well, it can be found across southern parts of spain and portugal. Temperatures above 30 degrees here. Even warmer in finland than it is here in the uk, where temperatures are well down on where they should be for this stage in the month. And to go with that cool feel, theres more rain in the forecast. This afternoon and particularly tomorrow, some nasty thundery downpours can be expected for some of you. Not for all. Out there at the moment, weve got a zone of cloud, outbreaks of Rain Coming and going, stretching from East Anglia, Northern England into northern ireland. After the brief bit of brightness across wales and the South West through the start of the afternoon, well see some thundery showers develop here. In between them, temperatures could get up to around 15 16 celsius, but a cool day across eastern coasts. Scotland avoiding most of the showers. But it will be a grey day in orkney and shetland. Through tonight, some further outbreaks of rain around, especially through Northern England, East Anglia. And then later on, you could be woken into the morning, south wales, South West england, by the return of more heavy showers and thunderstorms. Temperatures, though, well clear of frost levels. As we go into sunday itself, weve got low Pressure Right over the top of us. Low pressure basically a Breeding Ground for showers. Not much in the way of wind for most away from the south coast, that is. The showers that develop and brew and become more widespread across northern ireland, Northern England, North Wales will be slow moving, thundery with hail. Faster moving showers towards the south coast, but again they could be torrential in places with Thunder And Hail. Some parts of the midlands, East Anglia and parts of scotland who avoid the showers altogether, staying dry. If you do, pleasant enough in the sunshine, but overall still a fairly cool day. Winds for most will be light and its across those English Channel coasts where the strongest winds will be gusting, 30 40mph. Into the evening and overnight, we continue with the showers. Low pressure still close by, so we never really see the back of them. Even into monday, it pushes eastwards, that low pressure, but itjust shifts where the showers are going to be. Well have a bit more of a North Westerly breeze coming in, and the showers are going to be most prevalent, heaviest across eastern scotland, Eastern Parts of england with Thunder And Hail fewer showers in the west compared to the east. Temperatures still a few degrees down where they should be. They should be around 13 18 celsius this time of year. Continue that cool story through the rest of the coming week, but turning increasingly windy with it later on. Hello, this is Bbc News with victoria derbyshire. The Headlines Violence continues in gaza palestinian officials say an israeli Air Strike has killed seven people, including five children. The us and egypt are leading attempts to end the fighting. More testing and vaccinating in parts of North West england, where covid cases are surging due to the indian variant. But warnings that vaccinating is not an instant remedy. Any of those people receiving the first dose of Vaccine Today wont really start to get any Benefit Or Protection for at least two or three weeks from now and that is really quite slow. Wreath laying services are being held across the uk and Around The World, to mark the centenary of the Royal British Legion. Its Fa Cup final Day Chelsea Play leicester in front of 20,000 fans at wembley. Leicester are looking to win it for the first time, chelsea are hoping to win it for the ninth time
