While this woman, who lost four children, can only weep. The casualties, mounting, after israeli air strikes. Translation this evening, jerusalem day, gazas terror| organisations crossed a red line and attacked us with rockets on the outskirts ofjerusalem. Israel will react very forcefully. His response to a barrage of rockets fired by palestinian militants. Israelis ran for cover when one reached jerusalem for the first time in years. While angry palestinians cheered. Tensions were simmering on this holiday, when israelis mark the capture of Eastjerusalem Over 50 years ago. There is a party atmosphere, as israelis gather from across the country to head down towards the western wall. For them, this is a big day of celebration. For the palestinians, this march as a provocation. Why am i here . Because we are not going to let anyone win of when they are going to threaten us and try to stop us from being here and celebrate and dance. It is unbelievable. Earlier, inside Al Aqsa Mosque, ramadan worship had quickly turned into violence. Stun grenades and stones on this site, Sacred To Muslims and jews. Here, there was frustration at Damascus Gate as Police Stopped jews from entering. Tonight, the Al Aqsa Compound was literally ablaze. The israeli celebrations continued. The fire was put out. What has flared up here may be harder to extinguish. Yolande knell, bbc news. Us regulators say they will allow children as young as 12 to be vaccinated against the coronavirus. Children aged between 12 and 15 will be offered the Pfizer Biontech jab. It had previously been limited to those aged 16 and over, under emergency use rules. The us food and Drug Administration said it had carried out a thorough review of all available data before reaching the decision. No population brings us closer to returning to a sense of normalcy and to ending the pandemic. Now, parents and guardians can rest assured that in making our decision the agency undertook a rigorous and thorough review of all available scientific data. As we have with all the covid i9 authorisations. A bit more on our process for reviewing the vaccine. I would like to stress that teens, parents and communities can have full confidence in our processes for reviewing this vaccine. The fda has done everything we can to ensure that the covid i9 vaccines we have authorised have met the agencys high standards for quality, safety and effectiveness. We know that every time an american including members of our own families receives a Covid Vaccine dose you are putting your trust in us. And we are humbled by this trust and are working hard every single day to maintain it. As parents consider vaccines for their children, recognised you may have questions about the fda processes and whether this vaccine is safe for your child. Similar to other vaccine authorisations, we will be posting a number of documents about how we reached the decision, frequently asked questions, and fact sheets for Health Care Providers and vaccine recipients and caregivers which will be translating into numerous other languages. This level of transparency should help instill confidence in decisions to have their children vaccinated against covid i9. Getting more of our population vaccinated is critical to moving forward and pass this pandemic. While children generally have milder symptoms from covid i9, they are not immune to this virus. Through april 2021 approximately 1. 5 million children, 11 through 17 years old were diagnosed with covid 19. Reopening the schools and communities at the top of mind with many families and getting the children vaccinated Prevent Covid 19 will help our children and families get back to a sense of normal. Please get your covid 19 vaccine and help your family get your covid 19 vaccine and help yourfamily and get your covid 19 vaccine and help your family and friends get theirs. Thank you, and now i will turn it over to doctor marks. ,. , i will turn it over to doctor marks. , ~ marks. That was the acting fda commissioner. Marks. That was the acting fda commissioner. You marks. That was the acting fda commissioner. You hurt marks. That was the acting fda commissioner. You hurt her commissioner. You hurt her there please get yourjabs. North america correspondent peter bowes joins us now from los angeles. How significant do you think it is for the fda to say to 12 to 15 year olds and to the parents of those kids they should go and get theirjab . I of those kids they should go and get theirjab . And get their ab . I think thats and get theirjab . I think thats exactly and get theirjab . I think thats exactly the and get theirjab . I think thats exactly the point. | and get theirjab . I think i thats exactly the point. The parents of those children have been really clamouring for that, and as we have just heard the evaluation is that the vaccine is safe for 12 to 15 year olds in the frustration i think millions of families around the country is that mum and dad up at the vaccine to the children have not. The many family activities. It means it will be easier to continue to reopen schools in the summer months are coming, summer schools, outdoor activities. And it just schools, outdoor activities. And itjust signals once again that a step towards that sense of normal activity. And a move towards, well we are talking about Herd Immunity and experts Say Something like 70 to 85 of the population would need to have had both doses of the vaccine to achieve that. Herd immunity is debatable whether we will get to that. But this helps in just a little we will get to that. But this helps injust a little bit closer. Just under 50 of the population that has had both their vaccinations at the moment. So it makes life easier for people and of course it makes life safer for people. Interesting and new age group will get vaccines because we have seen that among adults the vaccine rate is perhaps slowing down as america has jabs. Most people who want to be jabbed at finding those remaining adults want to be vaccinated might be a bit more difficult. Yes thats one a bit more difficult. Yes thats one of a bit more difficult. Yes thats one of the a bit more difficult. Yes thats one of the big a bit more difficult. Yes thats one of the big concerns. Certainly the President Committee penetration have talked about this a lot over the last few weeks. 0ffering the last few weeks. Offering all sorts of incentives to people around the country to get vaccinated. And really there are two groups, there are people who are flatly opposed to any form of vaccination, and there are some for reasons only know to themselves had met might ve had the first vaccine but believes thats enough and have not gone back for the second one. The message very strongly if you need to have both vaccinations, both jabs to be fully protected from covid 19. Theres a lot going around the country on a national and state level. Just to try to encourage more people to try to encourage more people to have both of the vaccinations, and this will have just that encouragement, and will have huge differences in terms of the numbers, about 17 million Young Americans that can come into this. But it certainly welcome by Health Providers and in california which is archly doing very well at the moment and again its been a lot of encouragement of people just to move forward and to get both of those vaccinations. The largest oil pipeline in the United States is still not functioning tonight after a cyberattack thats been described as the worst ever strike on us infrastructure. The Biden Administration has invoked Emergency Powers in an effort to avoid fuel shortages. Today the fbi said a hacking group, based in russia, was behind the attack. The pipeline in question supplies 1a east coast states, with nearly half of the petrol, diesel and airline fuel they consume. Heres our security correspondent gordon corerra. Colonial pipeline tonight still not pumping fuel across america, thanks to a cyber attack. Four days after online hackers infiltrated systems, its pipeline is still shut down. A development serious enough to lead President Biden to speak out this evening. The Department Of Energy is working directly with colonial to get the pipelines back online and operating at full capacity as quickly and safely as possible. The fbi also is engaged to assess and address this attack. Colonial s 5500 mile pipeline carries nearly half of all the fuel for america east coast, from texas up to the north east. Emergency powers have allowed tankers to carry more to avoid shortages, including at airports. Whats called ransomware has become a profitable enterprise. The hackers behind this incident even licensing their software for others to use. They are thought to be based in russia, but criminals, rather than part of a government. The group call themselves darkside. Today they put out a statement saying, we are apolitical and do not participate in geopolitics. Dont tie us to governments, they say. Our goal is to make money and not creating problems for society. It looks like they may be worried that this time, things have gone too far. What they have done is they have taken some data, encrypted it, and they are holding it for ransom. And they are saying if they dont get paid, they are going to leak it on the internet. And likely this company is going to be either needing to pay it off, or getting some sort of help from the us government. Because the longer this goes on, you can start to see supplies eventually, not this week, but soon, start to get a bit tight and that is going to drive up energy prices. Colonial say they hope to Restore Systems by the end of the week. But this is notjust about fuel supplies. Hospitals, police forces, even local councils in the uk have all in the past been hit by a Ransomware Threat that is still growing. Gordon corera, bbc news. British Prime Minister Boris Johnson has confirmed the next stage of Easing Coronavirus restrictions in england can go ahead as planned in a weeks time. Pubs and restaurants will be able serve customers indoors and theatres, cinemas and hotels will reopen. Mrjohnson also said friends and family can hug again but urged people to use theirjudgment 0ur Health Editor hugh pym reports. Remember this . Scenes from life before the pandemic. Busy bars, restaurants and cinemas. From next monday in england, something similar is set to return to peoples everyday lives. This pub in liverpool has had to brave poor weather to serve customers in recent days. So next weeks opening up indoors will come not a moment too soon. So many people that i know that actually opened for a week or two and just decided no, were going to leave it and we will go back to the 17th. So i think there is huge anticipation because this does feel like its the first main step of the road back to normality. The Prime Minister stressed the importance of the next move. This unlocking amounts to a very considerable step on the road back to normality and im confident that we will be able to go further. Is it possible that you might even bring forward thejune the 21st date for the final stage of the road map and the lifting of all legal restrictions . I think its very important that we should proceed cautiously. But as i have said many times now, hopefully irreversibly. And the secret of the success that we have had so far i think has been that we have been guided by the data. And weve given time to see the effect of each successive stage on the road map. The Official Uk Covid threat level has been moved down from four to three for the First Time Since september. So what does the data behind all this actually show . The office for National Statistics survey of people in the community with the virus showed a sharp increase up until early january, then a steady fall which continued in march and april, even after schools reopened and there was some easing of restrictions. That is mirrored by daily covid hospital admissions, which peaked at more than 4000 in january and then fell right back after lockdown and the impact of the vaccine roll out. Continued progress of the Vaccination Programme was a key test. In essex, a vaccine bus is travelling round the county. Is this your first vaccination . Designed by the local nhs team working with ford, here it has been deployed at a sports and Leisure Centre run by the local muslim community. In general, we are hitting the target that we need to hit in terms of cohorts and age groups. But i think the added facet that the van brings is that we are getting to those pockets of the community who may be afraid or dont have the means to access normal health care services. Always make sure that your masks are on indoors. Face coverings will no longer be required in schools in england as part of the next stage of the road map. The thinking behind this and the other measures is learning to live with the virus when case numbers are low. Though local restrictions could be imposed if there are serious outbreaks. An extended reopening of indoor hospitality in wales and scotland is planned for next monday. In northern ireland, a week later. Further details are expected soon. In all parts of the uk, officials will closely watch the data, including any further increase in new variants. But right now, plans seem to be on track. Hugh pym, bbc news. The International Olympic committee Chief Thomas Bach has been forced to postpone a visit to japan, as virus cases surge, less than three months before the tokyo games. The japanese government and ioc are still insisting the games can go ahead safely this summer, although polls show most japanese people support cancellation or another delay. The Us State Department has eased its travel advisory ratings for both the United Kingdom and israel. The uk was lowered to the level three reconsider travel rating and israel was moved to level two which is to exercise increased caution. Pakistan is experiencing a third wave of coronavirus infections, with cases shooting up last month. Doctors say the terrible scenes across the border in india have helped persuade people to take more precautions, but there are concerns the eid festival this week will lead to a dangerous spike. So a partial lockdown is now in place. Secunder kermani reports from lahore. Friday prayers in lahore. At this mosque, plenty of masks, but no social distancing. Throughout the holy month of ramadan, congregational prayers have continued. Beds for critically ill patients in the city have been filling up. In public hospitals, around 75 are occupied. 0utside, families wait anxiously. A few weeks ago, it seems the Health Care System was about to be overwhelmed. Since then, admissions have actually fallen but the danger of another, bigger spike after eid is very real. We do believe that there is some level of fear in the mind of the people, now, about the disease. Seeing the horrific pictures from india and from elsewhere. Obviously we have limited resources, we have a limited number of beds. If the number of cases overwhelm the availability of the hospital thats going to be a very, very painful situation. At this market last week, shoppers with masks, but out in force. The lead up to the eid festival is usually the busiest time of the year for retailers. But now a partial lockdown is in place to try and reduce transmission rates. All nonessential businesses are closed until next week. The Security Forces are being called in to help enforce the rules. What happens over eid is going to be crucial in preventing the Health Care System from becoming overwhelmed. This is an important part of that, but an even bigger challenge is going to be whetherfamilies decide to have their own gatherings at home, and thats going to be even harder to control. The only way we can do that at the houses level, is to request an appeal to the people to behave more responsibly. Obviously its not possible for us to reach every house and household. A Vaccination Campaign is under way, but it is moving slowly with under 4 million doses administered so far. For now, all the focus is on avoiding a spike in the coming days. Secunder kermani, bbc news, lahore. It would usually be one of the biggest nights of the hollywood calendar. The Golden Globes ceremony has been rocked today after it was announced its broadcaster nbc has refused to screen the event. Tom cruise has said he will be returning three of his awards, the second big name to take a stand after Scarlett Johanssen called for reform of Hollywood Foreign press assoication which runs the Awards Ceremony Which is second only to the oscars in prestige. In a Statement Released tonight, nbc said. Dominic patten is the Senior Editor of deadline hollywood, which broke the story on nbc s decision to not broadcast the awards. A very different awards season. A lot of people might think well, what are you talking about . The 0scars just ended but we are already less than a month away from the end of amys eligibility and heading towards them in september. So lots of timelines were at play here. Both in terms of actually being able to put on a 2022 Golden Globes and the Hollywood Foreign press association so called Reform Movements and netflix and time warner, and others said we are not dealing with you any more, it was clear there was only a matter of when, not if nbc was going to pull the plug for 2022. Its almost like the world bank saying we need meaningful reforms, we need better governments. What kind of reforms talking about . A lot of people put emphasis on the fact that it was just before this year. That the globes has not one single black member in there now 86 members because they lost a former president as a member recently because it turned out he was sending out racially offensive e mails. Of their 86 members, 75 of them last week voted for a rather ambitious but not that great on the details reform plan that the board has put forward. Among various things they said they wanted to raise their membership by 50 within the next 18 months, which would have passed it beyond the point of the 20 22 globes, maybe even 2023. And they wanted to bring a real governance and transparency and after being around since the mid 40s, and actual code of ethics. Those things may still happen to come up but as nbc and others pointed out and as netflix and others made a real point of, you need to show us the money and show us the reform. I said to so many times, i said this on the bbc, before we go, an animal story of a very different stripe. A drawing of a bear s head by Leonard Da Vinci is expected to fetch 16 Million Dollars when it goes to auction this summer. Hello. As yesterday, today is shaping up to be a day of sunny spells and showers. The devil is going to be in the detail, though for the next fews days. Those showers circling this large area of low pressure with still fairly tightly packed isobars today. But as the week goes on, the low pressure remains with us just slowly meandering southwards but the winds become lighter, so the showers will become slow moving. Lengthier spells of rain even as we pick up another area of low pressure within our main one. That means most of us will have some wetter weather as we go through this week in the form of showers. You can see those Rainfall Totals are going to be totting up. For the day ahead, as i say, its a day of sunny spells and showers. Best of the sunshine will be this morning but as yesterday those showers will be pretty intense as we go into the afternoon with thunderstorms around. And weve got more persistent rain across the northwest of scotland, still further showers to come. Not easing away everywhere it will be a cool night but largely frost free. A few showers will come into southern and western parts of england, possibly wales as well towards dawn. Any bits of mist and low cloud first thing will meander out of the way. Plenty of sunshine to come as you can see through the Morning Hours but wont be long before that strong may sunshine continues to work bubbling up the cloud, showers develop more widely. Fairly brisk wind in southern and western areas. 0ur rain slow to clear but gradually over the northwest of scotland in a real rash of showers following behind with hail, thunder, squally winds. Between 16 and 17 feeling quite pleasant but clearly in those downpours there could be quite a lot of localised standing water. And they continue through the evening and overnight. Temperatures falling back in single figures but largely frost free. And then were reallyhasing those showers. The devil really will be in the detail this week with showers. Might be that we have that more persistent rain hanging around in the northwest of scotland, possibly more meandering into western areas. Possibly even with low pressure pushing into the far south of england. What we do know is there will be heavy downpours around becoming more slow moving by wednesday. Still 15s and 16s between the showers but lengthy spells of rain and thunder. A pretty showery picture for the rest of the week. There is more on the website. This is bbc news, the headlines. The Health Ministry in gaza says twenty people, including nine children have been killed in israeli air strikes the strikes were retaliation after a barrage of rockets was fired from the territory towards jerusalem.
