Can now meet indoors. The queen sends a message to the People Of Northern Ireland marking the countrys centenary and praising the continued peace as a credit to its people, upon whose shoulders the future rests. After herojimi Olubunmi Adewole died trying to save a woman who fell into the River Thames, well hear from the man who jumped in with him and thankfully survived. Jimi started to count, ok, lets do it, three, two. And i couldnt think on it so ijustjumped. That is the last time i sanimi. And coming up this hour a warning from the Hospitality Industry about staffing struggles ahead of reopening later this month. Police in Manchester Have condemned the protests that led to the postponement of Manchester Uniteds Premier League Match against liverpool, calling them completely unacceptable. Two officers were injured when fans stormed the pitch. The mayor of greater Manchester Andy Burnham has also condemned the violence. Our Sports Correspondent Joe Wilson reports. The concourse outside Old Trafford where protesters were expected to congregate. To voice their continued opposition to the ownership of Manchester United by the glazer family. Some protesters soon decided to go further, and ultimately, onto the pitch itself. This was the scene at one of the most Famous Football Grounds in the world, that revered Manchester United pitch, the place of stirring feats of football, occupied. As clashes continued, police reported two injuries to officers, one slashed in the face by a broken bottle. Meanwhile, some of those who stayed peacefully outside, were leaving. As were speaking outside the ground, there are lots of fans actually on the pitch. I mean, what. Was there . Yeah, yeah. What do you think about that . Its, its. It s a frustrating thing because obviously, as fans, we want the best for our club. Its been, from when we were young, watched it, its been magical, you know, history that weve had. And people like, get so annoyed with it. Well, they stayed. There was a Match Due to be played here, a match with direct implications for the outcome of the Premier League, supposed to happen here. The direct response from the Premier League was a statement. Fans have many channels by which to make their views known, But the actions of a minority seen today have no justification, it read. And im all for protesting, But not like that. You Cant Protest like that. Weve seen events at other football clubs, because theyre not happy. But when you get fans breaking into stadiums, when you get fans, eh, hurting Police Officers, when you get fans smashing glass to get into the hospitality, then thats not the way to do it. Thats not acceptable. Well, for 16 years, supporters have opposed the glazers. For 16 years, theyve believed the family is taking money out of their club. Fan power has been reignited by recent opposition to the European Super League. This anger runs deeper. Does it take something extreme for the glazers just to notice . United the Pitch Invaders widely condemned, dont represent all Manchester United Supporters. Far from it. But the landscape of English Football has changed. And these are the images viewed across the Premier Leagues global marketplace. Joe wilson, Bbc News in manchester. Ian stirling is the Vice Chair of the Manchester United Supporters club. He said Yesterdays Protest was a long time coming due to the feeling of discontent and the uneasy truce that was in place between many fans and the current owners, the glazer family. He said violence was not the answer But he supported lawful protest. The super league plans laid bare the motivations of the owners, notjust at Manchester United But all these so called Big Six clubs. The outpouring across the whole of the football community, from players, previous owners, commentators, pundits and fans was unanimous. We have to take action from that. This laid bare how these owners views of how they wanted to take football in the future. It is being taken away from communities, further taken away from fans. It wasnt the way Manchester United fans saw the future of their club. Weve always had an uneasy relationship in terms of the ownership, with the Manchester United Supporters trust had their shares compulsory purchased by the club. That has always hurt as an it always hurt supporters. That all fees into the images you saw yesterday. As i have i said, it has been a long time coming But the European Super League plans laid everything out. The dangers were there for everyone to see, its not a Direction Of Travel Manchester United fans want. We see a better way for fans and this is why we continue to press government to put those reforms in place. Were joined now by Bbc Radio Manchesters Man united reporter liam bradford. Good morning. What happens now . It is a very good question. It is going to have to be unpicked. What we have seen over the last 2a hours has been in part fantastic, really powerful protest on the Manchester United fans as they try to make their voice heard. They have been let down by a minority. Having spoken to a lot of Fans Yesterday while the protests were happening and overnight as well as this morning, that is the message the fans would like to get across. The majority protested peacefully because they feel they have limited options in terms of getting their voice heard. Gathering and protesting the ownership of Manchester United, they felt, was one of the most powerful ways of getting that done. Unfortunately, 200 fans made it onto the pitch, because the postponement of the game, that is violence against Police Officers causing two to be ended. One requiring Emergency Treatment to a wound on his face from a slash from a bottle. As soon as you cross the line from peaceful protest into violence, of course the focus moves away from the peaceful protest and the purpose of the protest and the purpose of the protest and the purpose of the protest and onto the fact that the protest and onto the fact that the protest themselves took a turn for the worst. We have seen statements from all of the major bodies from the clubs, the Premier League and Greater Manchester police. Greater manchester police have called the behaviour reckless and dangerous. Manchester united say their fans are passionate But they regret the actions that put other people in danger. The Premier League said the actions of a minority seem to date to have no justification, actions of a minority seem to date to have nojustification, the violence has been condemned by the Greater Manchester mayor andy burnham. I think the problem now comes the have to unpick the Security Problems they clearly had which forced the game to be postponed, how was that allowed to happen . Manchester united will be conducting an investigation. The Governing Bodies have got to figure out what they are going to do because Manchester United and Liverpools Game didnt get under way which means they failed to fulfil a fixture, which means Manchester United could at least be looking at a heavy fine and that most could be looking at points deduction. What we do from this point is a difficult one to say. Manchester united have got to find a way to get this fixture on a made what is an increasingly congested fixture list. They have a game on Thursday Night in the Europa League against roma so they have got a Factor Travel time into that. Liverpool have got their Premier League games so finding a free midweek to play this game is going to be tricky. On top of that, weve got unpick the issue of the ongoing relationship between Manchester Uniteds fans and Manchester Uniteds fans and Manchester Uniteds owners. It is not a solution that is going to be easily identifiable. We are going to be looking for a long time how this goes back to the uneasy truce that Ian Stirling was talking about before. , ~ ,. , a Cross Party Group of mps is urging the government to maintain restrictions on foreign holidays beyond the 17th of may. Of the 1500. The headlines on Bbc News. Two Police Officers are injured, after Yesterdays Protest by hundreds of Manchester United fans at Old Trafford. The scenes have been described as completely unacceptable. A Cross Party Group of mps urges the government to maintain restrictions on foreign holidays beyond the 17th of May Warning that new variants could lead to more deaths and further lockdowns. Restrictions on the number of mourners allowed at funerals are set to be relaxed in england, from the 17th of may. The head of the worlds largest vaccine manufacturer, the Serum Institute of india, has blamed Narendra Modis Government for the shortage of covid jabs. Adar poonawala said the government didnt place any large orders with his company until march, when the second wave of the pandemic had already hit the country. India has reported more than 300,000 new Coronavirus Cases for a twelfth consecutive day, and the number of deaths rose by over 3,400. Our correspondent in delhi, Devina Gupta told us more. What we have seen right now is over 23,000 lives lost in just seven days and that is the highest so far india has seen. What is worrying right now is the infection spreading to smaller cities that do not have adequate health infrastructure. And also, we are seeing the lack of oxygen there, medicines there and that is making younger population more vulnerable. Over the weekend, the expectation was the national lockdown would be announced which experts have been calling for, But indias prime Minister Narendra Modi has so far emphasised more on the Vaccination Programme and lowering the age limit over the weekend from 45 years to 18 years. That makes over 600 Million more people eligible to take jabs But several states have reported there is a shortage of doses. Indias offering to vaccinations at the moment. One is astrazeneca vaccine, the other one is covax vaccine. Here, we have indias largest, the worlds largest vaccine making unit. The head of that Vaccine Unit is mr adar poonawala. In a newspaper interview, he has criticised the indian government for not preparing enough, not ordering enough Bulk Stock in advance. He said only 21 Million jobs were ordered up until march, which are far inadequate given the scale of the population. He said the Vaccine Shortages are likely to continue until the production is ramped up untiljuly. Apple and Epic Games have been engaged in a legal battle since last year over a 30 Levy Apple collects on purchases made through its App Store. Fortnite was kicked off the App Store for bypassing that charge by installing its own payment system. From san francisco, James Clayton has more. In august last year, Epic Games did something totally against apples App Store rules. It decided that its hit game, fortnite, should have a new Payment Option to try and get around apples 30 charge. Apple properly kicked fortnite of the App Store, But Epic Games was ready for them. It slapped apple with a lawsuit and had even prepared a high protection video, a spoof of apples spoof 1984 advert for the apple mac. Apple has reportedly made hundreds of millions of dollars from the Fortnite Game alone just in charges. An epic s argument is, if they dont want to pay than where else can they go . Apples App Store and googles Google Play are the dominant global App Store is outside of china. If you want to make games for smartphones, you pretty much have to play by apple and googles rules. Epic calls that a duopoly and if there was more competition those fees might be lower. Their argument is a pretty simple anti trust one, not one company should have so much Market Dominance in one sector. They are not the only ones that think this. A string of high profile politicians from democrats and republicans in the us have criticised apple for monopolistic behaviour. The eu recently announced anti trust charges against apple for its behaviour on the App Store. Apples argument is pretty simple, it invented the App Store so it should get to charge what it likes. It also says that a majority of apps dont pay anything at all to apple. Its reasoning for charging 30 on some developers, it says it needs to Vet And Tech apps that come onto the App Store to protect the apple ecosystem. Apple is taking this Court Case incredibly seriously, even though it is only one company that is suing them, if they were to lose it will threaten a massive moneyspinner for the company. Apple has confirmed tim cook, its chief executive, will give evidence, the first time hes ever testified at trial. It is a clear sign that apple is worried, although they say they are confident of winning. The stakes though are incredibly high and apple knows it. Theres a new warning that more needs to be done to tackle the Sale And Promotion of a harmful drug aimed at women and young girls on instagram. It follows an investigation by the bbc which found the Stimulant Apetamin was still being promoted by users on the site. Our Health Correspondent Anna Collinson has more. Vanessa wants to be curvier so, two years ago, she started taking apetamin. Misusing the Appetite Stimulant can cause severe fatigue and even liver failure. But she carried on and even promoted it to her followers. It sounds like madness, is madness the extent you will go through But the pressures must be hitting hard for us to think its ok. It is illegal to sell apetamin in the uk, But, two weeks ago, a Bbc Three investigation revealed it could be bought in shops and online. With many profiles still promoting the drug, Nhs England has now written to instagram saying it is concerned about the physical and Mental Health impacts, and is urging this site to clamp down on accounts. As we invest more in youth Mental Health, which is, we believe, increasingly picking up some of the ill effects of poor and actively dangerous online content, perhaps it is time these Media Giants could step up and contriBute more, as well, to the treatment of young peoples Mental Health. A Facebook Company Spokesperson says buying and selling non medical or Prescription Drugs is strictly against our policies and it will continue working to keep these types of sales of the site. I think Social Media Platforms should be doing more to remove this drug and protect us. Butjust removing online accounts wont solve the problem, with many people, including vanessa, Buying Apetamin in shops. The Drugs Manufacturers says it does not export to the uk, so the Medicines Regulator is currently investigating how it is sold here. Do you regret promoting apetamin to followers, particularly as it is dangerous and it is currently illegal to sell it in the uk . Yeah, i regret promoting apetamin on my channel, 100 . And to all the people that went to probably go and buy apetamin from viewing my video, its disheartening, because now i want to take it all back. I want to say no, please dont. Just over a week ago, jimi was on his way home from work, when he tried to rescue a Woman Whod fallen into the thames. It was a remarkable act of bravery. Also on the bridge that night wasjoaquin garcia. He heardjimi shouting, and ran over to help. He started to point to the river saying, shes there, shes there. So i saw on the river, the girl. Well, i actually saw two hands and one face just splashing, trying to keep on float. He told me, are you going tojump . Are you jumping . And i said, yes. Jimi started to count like, ok, lets do it. Three, two. And i couldnt think on it, so ijustjumped. And thats the last time i sanimi. It was cold, dark, dangerous. Joaquin swam out towards the woman and eventually found her. She was not very conscious. I couldnt see her eyes at any moment. She was just blinking and splashing. And i started to swallow water. And i remember turning to the right, like, im looking for help. I dont know if i was looking forjimi, i was looking for anyone at that moment that i started to swallow water. Isaid, ok, listen, listen to me, listen to me. Keep calm. Do the plank, lets do the plank, ok . So i think she heard me, luckily, and she managed to do the plank. The coastguard and the police found the woman, and continued to search forjimi, But couldnt find him. His body was eventually discovered in the early hours of the morning. Joaquin was taken to hospital. Early the next day, he contacted his parents back home in spain. I think my father was the first time to call me back, and he told me. Joaquin is still coming to terms with what happened at london bridge, But is determined thatjimi should be honoured. Graham satchell, Bbc News. It is 18 minutes to ten. Its only two weeks before the majority of pubs and restaurants in england open their doors to serve us inside. But apart from getting covid safe, theyve got another major worry on their plates staffing. A year ago was kind of a bit of a moment for you to reassess life and work out what you wanted to do. It was, yeah. I think its been a push for some people who were stuck in the industry, who didnt know what else they could do. I had chefs working for me who had taken driving opportunities and now theyre happy, because they can spend a little bit more time with their family. Do you think this is about pay, or is it more than that . I think its much more thanjust pay. Its hard to argue with having more time with your family and children, or whoever you want to spend time with. Thanks forjoining. Are you concerned about Staff Shortages . Yes. We are on track, there is no doubt about that, and we face a challenge like the rest of the industry, because this is a lifestyle challenge. You say you are on track, then, But Take Care of them. You say you are on track, then, But obviously Take Care of them. You say you are on track, then, But obviously you | on track, then, But obviously you are recognising the fact that the Lifestyle Issue that was identified in a report about people not wanting to do those anti social long hours is a problem. How do. Do you have all the stuff that you need . And what are you doing to make sure that people are happy to work. We what are you doing to make sure that people are happy to work. People are happy to work. We have ureat people are happy to work. We have great people people are happy to work. We have great people already, people are happy to work. We have great people already, But people are happy to work. We have great people already, But we people are happy to work. We have great people already, But we are i great people already, But we are expecting to be very, very busy this staycation. Everyone is booming this year. So we are going to need more people, to find people who are looking to make a difference and i hope create great experiences for our guests. What we are trying to do and what we are doing actually is we are adapting and looking at our recruitment. We have been working with Kick Start and the government. We have been given 508 placement and have filled 100 of those already and actually from a Recruitment Point of view we have around 150 Chef Opportunities at this moment in time and we are looking to bring people on and make sure we give them a Night And Day induction, that we support them with well being, so we are constantly talking to them, and we really Take Care of their people because we are a people business. Chefs, according to one analysis by Recruitment Site caterer. Com are really problematic to find at the moment. They have looked at this and said that more than one in ten working in hospitality have left the industry this year But they particularly pointed to chefs as being difficult to find. You need 150. How will you do it . When you need them by . We 150. How will you do it . When you need them by . 150. How will you do it . When you need them by . We always need great eole. I need them by . Now, today marks a very significant date in the history of the island of ireland. 100 years ago, a law came into force which set up a parliament in belfast, created a border and established Northern Ireland. In a message to its people today, the queen said the anniversary provides an opportunity to reflect on our togetherness and our diversity. Borisjohnson has said the Uk Government would continue to showcase all The Brilliant Things that Northern Ireland contriButes to the rest of the uk. Chris page reports. These are the pictures Northern Ireland wants to be best known for a place of friendly cities and stunning seaside scenery. Bomb blast But it has a history which hurts. Its still recovering from a conflict which lasted for 30 years until the late 1990s. There was violence, too, at the time of Northern Irelands birth, sectarian murder across the island of ireland. The southern 26 counties went to war with britain to achieve independence, But a majority in the North Eastern six counties wanted to stay in the uk. And thats what happened. Today is one of a series of anniversaries. Its notjust the start of Northern Ireland as we know it. Its the start of the united kingdom as we know it. And the united kingdom is stronger and better because of all the constituent parts, and Northern Ireland plays a huge part in that. Unionists view this is the centenary of the state they strongly value. But for people who identify as irish, its the anniversary of the partition of ireland, a source of great injustice. The creation of a Brexit Trade Border with the rest of the uk has again sharpened political divisions. I think it is possible for us to deal with the past. Yeah. There would be little, some pain, But generously, ethically, i think it is possible for us to deal with the present, given even our present difficulties. I think they should be ironed out. They can be. Events to mark the centenary have been restricted so far due to the pandemic, But that doesnt make 2021 any less significant here. Chris page, Bbc News, belfast. After six series, line of duty reached its dramatic conclusion last night. 12. 8 million people the show s biggest ever audience tuned in, to find out the identity of the elusive fourth man. This morning the actor playing h spoke to Bbc News to explain how he reacted to playing the part. We all had our theories, But you never really think its going to be you, whether or not, you know. And the problem was i couldnt talk to anyone about it, that was the frustrating thing. I couldnt get on the Phone And Talk to people about it. Ijust had to hold my nerve and speak to my wife and just discuss it then. Because even then i knew, But i still hadnt read the scripts. I hope i havent given too much away. Right now i think it has already been given away. Yes. But i think it made sense. I think the real Sleight Of Hand was slipping on that whole polemic about institutional corruption, ineptitude, people looking the other way. I think it was a bigger story, a big state of the Nation Story cunningly disguised as a whodunnit crime drama romp, frankly. I think he has been cleverer than perhaps even the nation gave him credit for. I think there are some disappointments that we didnt get another surprise slipped rope, somebody thrown out of a window from a high story. All sorts of things were missing. Or did we want h to be . If it had been hastings they would have been an outpouring of disappointment at a good person turned so bad and if it had been anybody really high up in the force, well, talking about corruption at the highest level since sees one, so that might have been a bit of an Anti Climax as well, frankly. He has left a couple of strings ever so loosely untied so that should he feel the inclination to pick up his pen, and he would be forgiven for lying in a Dark Room for the rest of the decade after his efforts for six series, But should he feel inclined there are some threads to pick at should you desire. It has given us all time to talk to ourfriends, really rob it has given us all time to talk to our friends, really rob our own brains and think, who is this, whats going on . And he makes us feel clever because we do have to concentrate, so we think, hang on, im so clever, i recognise that character from series three, and of course you go on Social Media and there is an entire Fan Theory already dedicated to it, why they are there and what they are doing, so we all feel clever But we also feel very connected and in this Day And Age of Streaming Tv on devices, our phones, tucked away in corners, i think it is a rare pleasure and a rare treasure of the Viewing Experience. Obviously my wife wants me to when and whatever But me mam is completely on the line and once us both to do well, so we will see what happens. Time to catch up with the weather with carol. Hello again. Many of us started off on a dry, bright or sunny note, however thats not going to last. Wet and windy weather is on the way, if you dont already have it. As we go through the next couple of days its sunshine and blustery showers, and the temperature remains low for this stage in may. Heres the low pressure bringing us our weather today. You can see with the Weather Fronts you will see some periods of prolonged rain, Heavy Rain and gusty winds. So after that bright start in the east, the rain will march in, clearing Northern Ireland to sunshine and showers. The rain doesnt actually get into the far North East of scotland. What were looking at here is a fair bit of sunshine and some showers to give you the wintry top of the mountains, and its later in the day we see the rain get into East Anglia and the far South East of england. These black circles represent the strength of the wind gusts, so wherever you are you will notice it today But particularly along the coasts of wales and southern england. Temperatures, six in the north to 13 in the south. It should be roughly 1a in the north to 17 in the south. But one thing is the Pollen Levels are low or moderate across the board, and were still talking about tree pollen. As we head on through the evening and overnight period, you find the rain continues to push off into the north sea. There will be a plethora of showers left behind it. Some of those wintry, in the highlands, for example, down to about 300 metres. And still gusty winds, especially through the English Channel. But the temperatures are not worthy because everywhere is above freezing. You might see the Odd Pocket of frost in the highlands, for example, But most of us will be frost free. Tomorrow, still windy down this East Coast as the low pressure pulls away, the wind moderating through the course of the day, then we are looking at a mixture of sunshine and showers. But sunshine will be limited tomorrow more cloud around than sunshine, and some of the showers will be heavy with hail and thunder. Temperatures, 6 13 degrees. Moving into wednesday, this low pressure pulls away completely and that opens the doors to more of the northerly wind during the course of wednesday, But it will be a sunny day. But there will still be some showers around. Temperatures nothing to write home about. Between about eight and 10 degrees. The ensuring couple of days, thursday and friday, we still have that combination of sunshine and showers. This is Bbc News. These are the latest headlines in the uk and Around The World. Two Police Officers are injured, after Yesterdays Protest by hundreds of Manchester United fans at Old Trafford. The scenes have been described as completely unacceptable.
