India is added to the uks red list. Most travel from the country will be banned from friday, because of fears over a new variant of coronavirus. Good morning. The biggest drop in Car Insurance costs in half a decade. Motorists are paying £87 less a year ill find out how long the savings might last. Good morning from Odds Farm Park, which is in buckinghamshire. We are going to meet some plans and chat to the kids later but it is a chilly start wherever you are this morning. Many having a dry day with sunshine but there is some rain in Northern Ireland and scotland. All the details in ten minutes. Good morning. Its tuesday, 20th april. Our top story. Boris johnson will meet Football Fans and officials today, as the backlash over plans for a new super league intensifies. The Prime Minister stepped in after supporters, pundits and playersjoined growing calls to stop the breakaway competition. The Premier Leagues so called big six have signed up for the league, and 14 more clubs will meet today to consider their response. Joe lynskey reports. If the European Super League is an attack on the game, then football and society have gone on the counter. This was elland road last night, where Leeds United Supporters showed what they thought. Theyjoined the voices round the country whove condemned the plans. The Prime Minister, the Opposition Leader and european politicians all say it would damage the sport. And the president of uefa, who govern football in europe, said this. This idea is a spit in the face of all Football Lovers and our society, as well. So we will not allow them to take it away from us. On twitter, the duke of cambridge, writing in his role as fa president , said we must protect the entire football community, and that he shares the fans concerns. The words now are on the pitch, too. This was leeds goalkeeper last night wearing a t shirt with a Champions League logo, and earn it. The 12 Super League Clubs want a midweek competition thats a closed shop no one would be relegated but even those who represent them dont support it. I can only give my personal opinion, and i dont like it one bit and hopefully it doesnt happen. We are here, we are the faces of the club and we arrived here today, and the Leeds Supporters were shouting at us. We had a walk in the city the people were shouting at us, as if we would have made the decision and we didnt. Its the Premier Leagues big six clubs looking to break away. Today the other 14 will meet to go through the plans. And the governments launching a Fan Led Review into football itself. These six clubs announced this decision without any consultation with Football Authorities or with government. Worst of all, they did it without any dialogue whatsoever with their own fans. We will do whatever it takes to protect our national game. So im absolutely appalled at the fact that football has come this far into the hands of greedy owners. Im obviously a burnley fan. We are so small our budgets depend on people like the top 16 in the Premier League, and for them to just treat it like their own personal company is absolutely disgusting. Itsjust going to ruin everyones dream, everyones game and its just ridiculous. When the Stock Exchange opened yesterday, man uniteds share price grew by nearly io . But now the anger from supporters is rising, too. Some say this is a plan to break up football, but the people in the game are standing firm. Joe lynskey, bbc news. So the plans have been widely condemned. It was really interesting watching yesterday. There has been developments overnight. The other thin. Developments overnight. The other thin i developments overnight. The other thing i think developments overnight. The other thing i think has developments overnight. The other thing i think has been missing is perhaps illness, chairman of the Football Clubs in this country who are involved, coming out to talk about it. Silence. Nobody wants to speak about it. Apart from one person. A huge backlash. Amid the huge backlash, there are obviously powerful figures in the game who are convinced this is the right way to go none more so than real madrids president and the chairman of the newly formed European Super League, Florentino Perez. Hes been talking about the motivations behind the breakaway competition, and insists that rather than destroying the game as many critics fear it will save it. Heres what he had to stay. Translation we dont have the mone , translation we dont have the money. Apart translation we dont have the money, apart from translation we dont have the money, apart from tv translation we dont have the money, apart from tv rights, translation we dont have the money, apart from tv rights, so l translation we dont have the i money, apart from tv rights, so the only way to make football profitable is to make more competitive teams that are more attractive to fans of the biggest clubs from all over the world. So we came to the conclusion that if instead of doing the Champions League between seasons, we do a superb leak of the biggest clubs, we will be able to recover some of the income we have lost we do at super league. That was a really interesting interview. He went on to say, we have had from uefa, there is a possibility english clubs in the champions doing a kosher butcher, the Europa League could be banned. Do not worry, this is not true. Players will not be banned from international matches. But of course is just his opinion. One of the things that came up from that interview is what they are trying to do is encourage, he says, younger Football Fans. Trying to do is encourage, he says, youngerFootball Fans. Younger younger Football Fans. Younger Football Fans younger Football Fans. Younger Football Fa Ns wa nt youngerFootball Fans. Younger Football Fans want a different tournament, they want to see the biggest teams playing on the biggest stage more regularly and that is something that is really up for debate because im not sure that is true. . ,. , true. Another thing they said that no Football Fans true. Another thing they said that no Football Fans is true. Another thing they said that no Football Fans is they true. Another thing they said that no Football Fans is they refer true. Another thing they said that no Football Fans is they refer to i no Football Fans is they refer to two types of fans. The legacy fans, the traditional fans they have a before and those they are trying to catch in the future. It is not like. Fans have felt disenfranchised for a long time and felt distance from the club for a long time but this felt like a different step. It long time but this felt like a different step. Long time but this felt like a different step. It is even worse than paying different step. It is even worse than paying a different step. It is even worse than paying a really different step. It is even worse than paying a really high different step. It is even worse than paying a really high price | different step. It is even worse i than paying a really high price for the kit, not being able to afford a season ticket, or even get a ticket for a game you want to go to, which is so difficult for fans. This is another step on. Well be speaking to alan shearer about this a little later in the programme at 7. 30. It will be interesting to see what he thinks about all of this. I think i already know, i can get quite you have to be strong in terms of sanctions. It is basically sport. Whatever sport you compete income if you cant lose it is not sport. It is not a competition, that is kind of a point. Is not a competition, that is kind of a point of a point. See you later, thank ou. Indias been added to the governments red list for Travel Meaning that from 4am on friday, british and irish citizens arriving into the uk, will have to quarantine in a designated hotel. Non residents will be banned from entering the country entirely. It comes after more than 100 cases of the indian variant were identified in the uk. Our Transport Correspondent, Caroline Davies reports. Delhi is going into lockdown. Cases are rising across india, and theres a growing concern about the so called indian variant of the coronavirus. While its under investigation, the uk government has taken a new step. Weve made the difficult but vital decision to add india to the red list. This means anyone who is not a uk or irish resident or a british citizen cannot enter the uk if theyve been in india in the previous ten days. Uk and irish residents, and british citizens whove been in india in the past ten days before their arrival will need to complete Hotel Quarantine for ten days from the time of arrival. The rules will come in from 4am on friday morning. Its less than four months since india banned flights from the uk, trying to contain the uk variant. With this virus, dynamics between countries can change quickly. When flights restarted, indias government restricted them to 30 a week between the two countries, and seats back to the uk before friday are already in short supply. The number of cars damaged by potholes has risen by more than a third in a year, prompting criticism that roads resemble the surface of the moon. The research by a leading Breakdown Company found that almost 5,000 call outs were made during the first three months of this year for damage traditionally caused by holes in the road, including broken Suspension Springs, distorted wheels and damaged shock absorbers. We are talking about mars later, maybe they will be able to fix potholes on mars and the moon. There was a massive one last week, when the car actually shakes. Nasa has successfully flown a small helicopter on mars the first ever powered flight on another planet. We have our own version of it right here in the breakfast studio. There we go, scale model, everybody. It is not a scale model because i would be like that. The rotors are two metres long. The small drone, which is called ingenuity, was in the air for less than a minute. It reached a height of around three metres, where it hovered briefly before returning to the ground. Nasa is promising more adventurous flights in the next few days. Cani can i do that again . You are demanding can i do that again . You are demanding far can i do that again . This team worked on this into making sure this goes. Try 3 team worked on this helicopter for almost seven years and frankly we did thousands of take offs like the one we did this morning and we did it all on software, all autonomously, and learned how to do it. We did it in the lab, on the ground, and finally we did it on mars and the one thing that is different about mars and your studio is also the wind. We noticed as we were hovering at about three metres high that the helicopter was fighting some wind, probably ten, 20 mph. Three to six metres per second, perhaps is another way of saying the same thing. So there is some wind out there that it had to handle. This time it took off and landed safely, you know that, what is next for it . , ~ safely, you know that, what is next for it . ,. , safely, you know that, what is next for it . , ~. ,. , for it . We need to charge, get the data and we will take off again and go higher and haveit take off again and go higher and have it again, come down, and the next flight will go up over and come down and we are going to push the envelope both in height and duration in how far we fly and also how fast we fly. We are really going to try to use this vehicle to see what is possible. We are going to see how we can use it to the best possibility because in the future we want to use it to get science exploration or even astronauts when we are ready to go to mars. It is even astronauts when we are ready to aoto mars. ,. ,. , go to mars. It is fascinating. If this is successful go to mars. It is fascinating. If this is successful and go to mars. You touched on astronauts going to mars, how far in the future that potentially happen . We believe this is really a new tool in the tool box of exploration and we have an analog in the history of nasa that is 97, we put a little rohit on mice and now we have perseverance up there. We are planning the first round trap done up a trip to mars mars. Done up a trip to mars a we are planning the first round trap done up a trip to mars a similar timescale we will use perhaps even faster in this case, we will be able to use it to do science exploration in a decade or so. We will see. We will be able to work with the International Community and bring astronauts there. Of course we are first going to the moon, we need to take astronauts out of Low Earth Orbit and extended stays away from earth is what we will learn but then of course we want to go to mars, thatis of course we want to go to mars, that is call that we have thought dreamt about for decades. It sounds like something out of a Science Fiction movie. There are people who would want to do that, out there . Absolutely. To do Something Like we did just now with ingenuity, when you Start Talking about it, it sounds crazy. The first time the idea was brought up to fly a helicopter on mars, one of the Lead Engineers at the laboratory is that this is crazy and impossible. Covid has changed good morning. Good morning. Covid has changed our good morning. Good morning. Covid has changed our driving good morning. Good morning. Covid has changed our driving habits, has changed our driving habits, hasnt it . I have tips on how you can keep your premiums down. Good morning, everyone. The average cost of Car Insurance in the uk has dropped by £87 to just over £530 a year. Thats a 14 drop and the biggest annual fall in six years. And the reason its falling is it all to do with risk. With less of us out on the roads, there have been fewer accidents. So that means less paid out in claims by insurers, and so cheaper premiums for us. Areas with lots of Office Workers have seen the biggest falls. So merseyside, Greater Manchester and inner london, for example. These places were some of the most expensive in the uk to insure your car. And the advice is to shop around, especially as lockdown eases and more people head back to the office. So how else can you get your costs down . Here are some tips for you. Other ways of making sure that you alwaysl get a good price is, be honest always give accurate information. And be careful with your mileage because you might think. Well, yes, less miles thats. What were all doing right now means a lower price. Hello, good morning. Todays weather is looking very similar to how it was yesterday. A slightly milder start to the morning, but temperatures still in low single figures, so its still pretty chilly out there. There are a few early mist patches but plenty of sunshine. Blue skies throughout the morning, then a bit more fair weather cloud developing as we head through the second part of the day. We may well see one or two showers break out, but for the vast majority of us it should be completely dry. Temperature wise well be up to 15 or 16 celsius, maybe 17 in Central London, 18 perhaps, as we saw yesterday, in northolt. As we head through this evening and overnight, the winds will stay light, the skies were clear, and temperatures will drop to around three or four celsius into tomorrow morning, so it should be frost free. And then tomorrow, a cloudier start to the day. It should stay dry. More sunshine as we head through the afternoon, but therell also be a dip in temperature. Feeling cooler on thursday and friday, but again its dry, the winds are light, and we will keep the sunshine. Im back with the latest from the bbc london newsroom in half an hour. There is nothing to talk about. I dont even know what you are going to mention it has been acquired a couple of days. It takes a lot to unite Football Fans. Fans from big clubs who have been rivals for generations. You think about Manchester United and liverpool, the london clubs, all of these clubs involved. Look at them. All of these clubs involved in this proposed European Super League. The fans are more united than we have ever seen before and with good reason. Huge amounts of reaction to the European Super League plans continues to come in from across the footballing world, including now current players, and those from the big six. Manchester uniteds Bruno Fernandes said on instagram, dreams cant be bought, in responding to a post from Wolves Player daniel podence. He wrote, the ball, the song, the dream, before going through some of the biggest moments in Champions League history, a competition that would be dismantled by a super league. David beckham said. Its an anger shared by ian wright, with his former club arsenal among those signed up. Is this how far we have fallen, where we now are getting into competitions, because what, were not good enough to get into them . So we have to to the detriment of the english game, were getting a seat at a table that we have no right to be at. Its. It s shameful. Ive heard that word used and it is shameful. The super league also dominated the Premier League game between leeds and liverpool last night. We saw the fans protesting outside elland road, while leeds forward Patrick Bamford was critical of the proposals. Before all of us became footballers, we were fans, and i think that thats where football starts, every single club starts with the fans. And i think that the proposals that whoever it is has put forward, it kind of takes it away from that. And it disregards the kind of. The way the clubs have been with the fans. And we just think its wrong. I mean, i dont know the ins and outs of everything, but from how its been portrayed, it doesnt seem like the right thing. On the pitch, the points were shared in a game which finished 1 1. Sadio mane gave liverpool the lead at half time, but Diego Llorente rescued a point for leeds four minutes from the end with this header. Tottenham are another one of the clubs who have confirmed theyll be a part of the new Breakaway League and this morning, theyre looking for a new manager. Thats after they sacked Jose Mourinho afterjust 17 months in charge. Joe wilson reports. Tottenham hotspur, a Football Club which sees itself amongst europes elite. Well, Jose Mourinho is gone, with spurs in seventh in england. So, another desk cleared, the ex manager home with his belongings and no clear next destination. No comment either. You are losing your time. English football has witnessed the various ages of mourinho. Special and cheerful at chelsea, at first. More mature at Manchester United. His time at spurs quite short, pretty sour. A touch into richarlison. His cv promised success, if not style. Well, spurs conceded five against everton in the fa cup. A 3 0 defeat to Dinamo Zagreb in the Europa League. And when spurs let in two against newcastle in the Premier League this month, mourinho explained the decline. Same coach, different players, he stated. Well, couldnt be his fault. Classic mourinho . He doesnt call himself the special one for nothing. So hes either good or bad. There is no balance, there is no middle way. So i think, what ive heard, it was a bit like he was getting out of hand in the dressing room, within the dressing room, so they had to change him. This coming weekend spurs actually have their biggest game of the season, the league cup final. They clearly think theyve got more chance of winning that trophy withoutJose Mourinho. Grand ambitions here. The stadium is super. But tottenhams perception and their Current Situation seem, well, leagues apart. Joe wilson, bbc news, north london. Interesting timing of that announcement yesterday. Of course, joe mourinho being sacked would have been a big story, but slightly overshadowed by the European Super League proposals. Some little kids with their mums. I wish i had that much energy. Down here, the pygmy goats. These little kids were born just after midnight last night. One of the farmers he was telling me that within two hours at the most, they are standing up and p the most, they are standing up and up and about. They have been quite active already this morning. If we come around here we can see some more of the goats. Some of these are only two, three weeks old. They have been gambling away this morning. We were talking earlier about shearing. If you see these sheep hear you might think they need a bit of a shearer. They are looking quite woolly but content. The forecast for today is a very quiet one for most of us. It is a chilly start. Not as cold as it has been in recent days. If you are heading out early on, bare that in mind. We have also got a fair bit of sunshine. With the exception to that is across scotland and Northern Ireland first thing, where there is a lot of cloud and some rain. We have got a Weather Front coming south across the country. It is draped over scotland and Northern Ireland. As it moves south slowly today, behind it some Cooler Conditions will follow. It will brighten up. Some mist and fog around parts of the midlands this morning, the east coast of england, most of it will lift, some back to the north sea. Then a good deal of sunshine. Scotland and Northern Ireland due to hang on to a lot of cloud. The rain easing. Temperatures will be fresher than they have been. 16 to 17 degrees. Through this evening and overnight the Weather Front continues to slip south. Bringing cloud with it, some spots of rain. Behind it, it will be Cold Enoughin of rain. Behind it, it will be cold enough in scotland and Northern Ireland, in ruralareas, enough in scotland and Northern Ireland, in rural areas, for a touch of frost. Temperatures hanging on as we are ahead of that Weather Front in england and also wales. As we move through tomorrow we will still have that Weather Front in the south, mostly it is a band of cloud. Tomorrow we could see some showers in east anglia and the peaks. Parts of the southern uplands, the welsh hills and also the pennines. But again tomorrow, still a lot of dry weather, feeling cooler on the north sea coastline with an onshore flow. Then as we head into thursday still a lot of dry weather around, still the onshore flow in the north sea coastline meaning there will be a bit of a breeze, it will always feel cooler. Temperatures generally will be that bit lower. Instead of being in the mid to high teens, we are looking at the low to the mid teens. Things are changing. Even into the weekend with High Pressure still firmly in charge, things will remain settled. Frost by night for some. I am going to leave you with a view once again of these beautiful little kids. Gorgeous, that. That is a beautiful sight on a tuesday morning. Im sure our viewers have been watching enjoying watching a bit of wildlife this morning, and you, of course. I am loving it. Beautiful. Barking Dagenham Council wants residents to place a pin on an online map, showing the roads they feel are most dangerous. Councillors said the information gathered will be used to draw up new Public Safety proposals. More than 20 labour mps and peers have urged a school in Central London not to discipline pupils if they organise more protests. Last month students at Pimlico Academy staged a walkout over what they say are racist changes to the curriculum and uniform policy, brought in by the new principal. The sixth formers who organised the action were warned they could face permanent exclusion if there are more demon. They could face permanent exclusion if there are more demos. Teachers there are also due to hold a ballot on whether to go on strike. More of us have taken up different forms of exercise during lockdown. Well, a club in North West London is trying to make cycling more accessible. Evolve is a group encouraging muslim women to get on a bike. Some members have never cycled before theyjoined. The aim is to build skills and increase confidence. Can you create a platform for that . You know, to normalise cycling for muslim women. And you could say, you know, to normalise cycling with hijab . You know, you can see ive got lycra, but its covered as well. So its all trying to, you know, create that space, that sanctuary for women. Lets take a look at the travel situation now. Now the weather with elizabeth rizzini. Hello, good morning. Todays weather is looking very similar to how it was yesterday. A slightly milder start to the morning, but temperatures still in low single figures, so its still pretty chilly out there. There are a few early mist patches but plenty of sunshine. Blue skies throughout the morning, then a bit more fairweather cloud developing as we head through the second part of the day. Plenty more on our website at the usual address. Now, though, its back to breakfast. Bye for now. Good morning, welcome to breakfast with Louise Minchin and dan walker. Our headlines today. The row over footballs breakaway European Super League continues borisjohnson says hell show the plans a straight red. The chairman of the new league speaks for the first time. Morning. You are some good morning. You are looking at some beautiful sheep here at Odds Farm Park in buckinghamshire. The weather is chilled, chilly start of the day for england and wales mostly dry and sunny, for scotland and Northern Ireland, more cloud and some rain. I will have the details in about ten minutes. Its tuesday 20th april. Our top story. Boris johnson will meet Football Fans and officials today, as the backlash over plans for a new European Super League intensifies. The Premier Leagues so called big six have signed up for the new tournament and the leagues other 14 teams will hold their own meeting today to decide whether the clubs involved should face sanctions. So as weve been hearing the move have been widely condemned but overnight weve heard from one of the men at the forefront of the plans real madrids president and the chairman of the newly formed European Super League, Florentino Perez. Translation we dont have the money, apart from tv rights, so the only way to make football profitable is to make more competitive teams that are more attractive to fans of the biggest clubs from all over the world. So we came to the conclusion that if, instead of doing the Champions League between seasons, we do a super league of the biggest clubs, we will be able to recover some of the income weve lost. That is the first we have heard from any of those involved at the top level of the European Super League proposal. We will be hearing what alan shearer thinks about all that later in the programme come in about 25 minutes. You will be just after 7 30am. Lets speak to our chief Political Correspondent adam fleming. Not n ot ofte n not often i get to talking about football but tell us how the Prime Minister has responded. He football but tell us how the Prime Minister has responded. Minister has responded. He has written a piece minister has responded. He has written a piece for minister has responded. He has written a piece for the minister has responded. He has written a piece for the sun minister has responded. He has| written a piece for the sun same plans for the Breakaway League are ludicrous and he will be hosting a Virtual Meeting with the fa, the Premier League have lots of representatives of Football Fans to hear what they have to say. This money will be all about listening to concerns rather than coming up with some gung ho plan of action that can be implemented straightaway. The phrase being used for that plan of action and what it could eventually look like is no stone unturned. Government departments are looking at absolutely everything to work out what they can do here and they are not ruling anything out. Visit for example withdrawing support that the governments do not have government provides for Football Clubs, whether it is Coronavirus Support measures or the visa system meaning these clubs can bring in their expensive foreign players. Do you even have legislation, do you introduce a new law to prevent this breakaway happening . That would probably be the most extreme idea. Today labour are saying the competition watchdog, the competition and markets authority, should intervene straightaway and that will be interesting because normally they look at mergers of banks and Technology Companies but here they would be looking at football which basically is what the entire of politics is looking at this rate. You dont have to be a political genius to see why this is happening. Use the site does the government wants to be on . I checked this morning at delhi, a city of millions, according to one website has only 42 intensive care beds left. We are seeing desperate seems as loved ones are turned away from hospital. Experts believe one reason for this sharp and quick rise in coronavirus cases is that the new indian strain, detected not too long ago here. Doctors and experts we have spoken to also believe this could be a far more transmissible strain of coronavirus and they say they are also seeing much more younger patients coming in. Last week an official in delhi said more than half of hospitalisations in the city where people under the age of 45 and i know a friend who is a three year old has coronavirus here. We are looking into this new strain, still researching. Government officials here say at the moment there is nothing to prove definitively that it is more lethal or more transmissible, but certainly experts are really raising caution over that and concern and of course as we know, as you mentioned, the red list coming in on friday, we know that some cases of this new indian strain have already been detected in the uk so that is why all eyes are on this research to find out more about it. All eyes are on this research to find out more about it. Thank you very much find out more about it. Thank you very much for find out more about it. A jury in minneapolis has adjourned after spending four hours considering its verdict in the trial of Derek Chauvin, the former us Police Officer charged with murdering george floyd. The defence says mr chauvin correctly followed police training, but the prosecution say his actions were disproportionate and deliberate. Nick bryant has this report. In the last few minutes the latest unemployment figures have been released. Sarah corker is here with more. Good morning. These figures relate to the period in the uk went into the strictest lockdown after christmas. The strictest lockdown after christmas. These the strictest lockdown after christmas. These numbers| the strictest lockdown ft9 christmas. These numbers from the ons up in the month of december, january and february. They show unemployment over those three months stood at 4. 9 . That is a slight fall on the previous quarter and as we just heard, across the uk, 1. 67 Million People were out of work and in march there were an estimated 56,000 redundancy, the fall in the number of people on the payroll. Overall the figures show the jobs market is starting to stabilised and we know that throughout the pandemic young people have been hit hardest by the economic crisis. Because 2020, those who came out of university or training entered the most challenging jobs market in a generation and there are still more people chasing fewerjobs. That often means less experienced young people missing out. And the under 25 are also overrepresented in sectors like hospitality and retail so those parts of the economy have shed the mostjobs during the lockdown. Since the crisis began, around half a million roles in hotels, restaurants and shops have been lost. If we look at the furlough scheme we can see that that has protected more than 11 million jobs since the pandemic began. The scheme will continue until the end of september and by thenit until the end of september and by then it is hoped the worst will be over, the economy unlocked. There was also some growing optimism that the vaccine roll out may lead to a faster than expected economic recovery. I think what is really interesting is when you speak to recruiters they say things have picked up over the last couple of weeks, actually, because as the economy opens up again, hospitality sector, retail, they are starting to rehire because they are planning for the future, i return to normality. Some positive news. Goad normality. Some positive news. Good to hear. Normality. Some positive news. Good to hear thank normality. Some positive news. Good to hear. Thank you. India is the latest country to be added to the uks red list over fears of a new covid variant. 103 cases of the india variant were identified in the uk the vast majority of which were linked to international travel. The latest measures mean that from friday at 4am, most people will be refused entry to the uk if they have been in india at any point in the previous ten days. British or irish passport holders, or people with uk residence rights, will be allowed in but must quarantine in a government approved hotel for ten days. Were joined now by the former government chief scientific advisor, professor sir mark walport. Thank you very much for spending time with us this morning. Really interesting to hear your thoughts on this. Lots of talk about india and the red list. We have been mentioning it for quite a few days on this programme. Do you feel it should have happened sooner . Imisti. Should have happened sooner . Well, its alwa s should have happened sooner . Well, its always easy should have happened sooner . Well, its always easy to. Should have happened sooner . Well, its always easy to. These its always easy to. These decisions are almost inevitably taken too late but what is absolutely clear is this variant is more transmissible in india. You can see it is becoming the dominant variant and sell the other concern is that there is a second change in the spike protein which may mean it is able to be more effective at escaping and immune response, either a natural one or a vaccine induced one. There is good reason for wanting to keep it out of the country if at all possible. Taste wanting to keep it out of the country if at all possible. We have talked a lot country if at all possible. We have talked a lot about country if at all possible. We have talked a lot about this country if at all possible. We have talked a lot about this brazil talked a lot about this brazil variant, the South African one. How do we make sure. I know there are all sorts of steps in place and have been for a while but at what point do we know that this indian variant may have an impact on the way we are dealing with the virus here . The oint dealing with the virus here . The point about dealing with the virus here . The point about it dealing with the virus here . Ii9 point about it is dealing with the virus here . Ii9 point about it is that dealing with the virus here . Ii9 point about it is that we need to get the numbers down as low as we possibly can. The truth is that variants like this are going to be continuing to emerge all around the world. We have a more transmissible variance, the so called b1117 variant and this is part of the natural mutation. It is dividing all the time and the viruses that have mutated have competitive advantage over other viruses will always take over. The important thing is, given the success of our vaccine programme, about 60 of all adults are vaccinated out, about a third having had the second dose, 10 million. What we need to do is get the population vaccinated and also get a boost in vaccines prepared that will be able to deal with these new variants. Buying time, which is a critical issue, against these new variance is really important. In terms of those variants, the numbers, many of our viewers will be aware that the dominant one, the kent variance, there are 200,000 cases. We have a South African, brazilian, indian. At what point in terms of case numbers would there be concern . It terms of case numbers would there be concern . . , terms of case numbers would there be concern . ,. , , terms of case numbers would there be concern . ,. ,. , , , concern . It is really a question of the rate of concern . It is really a question of the rate of growth. Concern . It is really a question of the rate of growth. It concern . It is really a question of the rate of growth. It is concern . It is really a question of the rate of growth. It is what concern . It is really a question of the rate of growth. It is what the | the rate of growth. It is what the doubling time of the new variants are and, as i say, we know they have are and, as i say, we know they have a competitive advantage of existing strains, whether it be in transmission or the ability to resist the immune response and it is why test and trace becomes really important, particularly when the numbers get lower, so there is a better chance of stamping on cases as they come out, isolating them, having a Surge Testing. Firstly we must follow the rules and the good news about the weather is that the space and fresh air in particular becomes much easier to achieve because we know this infection transmits so much more easily endorsed so people really do need to meet outdoors, not indoors, that is really important so much more easily indoors. Really important so much more easily indoors. Really important so much more easily indoors. Something people pay close attention easily indoors. Something people pay close attention to easily indoors. Something people pay close attention to is easily indoors. Something people pay close attention to is the easily indoors. Something people pay close attention to is the dates easily indoors. Something people pay close attention to is the dates of close attention to is the dates of the government had put in the road map, even though they have said they are potentially movable not set in stone. The next lot we have is the 17th of may. Are you in a position to feel confident this morning to say that that will go ahead if we continue on the road we are on now . So far so good, the numbers of cases are at low, but nevertheless there are at low, but nevertheless there are still new cases arising and it is why they took, not dates, are what matter. These gaps have been picked. It takes time. We have only been under the latest relaxations for a few days and so we need to see over the next few weeks how the numbers stack up. So far, so good. With the good weather it is nice to be optimistic that as long as people are careful, we should be all right for the next phase. Taste all right for the next phase. We soke to all right for the next phase. We spoke to a all right for the next phase. We spoke to a professor yesterday who said that 2021, we may look back on it as the year of the variant. Would you go along with that, that this is something we have to get used to, theres been talk of a new variance, where it has come from and maybe Surge Testing in various parts of the uk where it is found . Yes. This is in a sense the uk where it is found . Yes. This is in a sense nothing the uk where it is found . Yes. This is in a sense nothing new. The uk where it is found . Yes. This is in a sense nothing new. Flu is in a sense nothing new. Flu varies continuously, we have different vaccines each year depending on which strain is most likely to be infecting people. It looks as though coronavirus will behave similarly comic we will have to continuously update the vaccine as the virus evolves. It is just the nature of the weight viruses evolve as any people who are immune, they will find a way to get around it, as it were. ,. It were. The other thing i am interested it were. The other thing i am interested in it were. The other thing i am interested in from it were. The other thing i am interested in from your it were. The other thing i am interested in from your perspective is, at what stage do you think, as a society, as a public consciousness, will we be able to accept the level of risk and that people will still die, still get ill, still need to go to hospital, as we have with many other viruses and many other things that afflict us and cause us to have Health Problems here in the uk . Because there has been so much attention on coronavirus and the numbers of people in hospital, the numbers of people in hospital, the number of deaths each day, do you think it will take a bit of time to reset our minds, if you like, in terms of where we are with this and the understanding that people will get ill and people will sadly die. With flu we accept something between 5000 and maybe 20,000 deaths from flu each year. Almost all in elderly people. So we will accept that, i think, overa people. So we will accept that, i think, over a period of time, but we are not there yet is the answer. What we need to do is get the population vaccinated at all ages because, of course, people have a different attitude to that number of deaths if they are all young people. I think society would have a different attitude to that. It is a disease that is evolving, our relationship with the disease will evolve over time and you are asking questions for which there is not a single answer. I questions for which there is not a single answer. Questions for which there is not a single answer. I am aware of that. I think ou single answer. I am aware of that. I think you have single answer. Thank you for your time is money, good to talk to you. You for your time is money, good to talk to you lets return to our top story now and the government has said it will do whatever it takes to prevent a breakaway European Super League involving six leading english clubs. Labour leader keir starmer has said hell back the Prime Minister if he pushes through emergency laws to block the move. Shadow sports minister Alison Mcgovern joins us now. We will come back to sir keir s, cinema mode. What is your reaction to what is being proposed . Meiji. Cinema mode. What is your reaction to what is being proposed . To what is being proposed . Well, i think it is terrible. To what is being proposed . Well, i think it is terrible. It to what is being proposed . Well, i think it is terrible. It is to what is being proposed . Well, i think it is terrible. It is trying think it is terrible. It is trying to stop competition in the way that we have known it. The idea that any club should be able to get into europe, that is a simple principle of football. I love european football and i want any club to be able to get into europe and this stop that. So i think that simple principle that has been breached here explains the outpouring of anger and frustration that we have seen from people. Itjust seems to go against basic ideas of competition and i dont think it is acceptable to say the least. That is an understatement. I dont think this should happen. An understatement. I dont think this should happen. What do you think should this should happen. What do you think should be this should happen. What do you think should be done . This should happen. What do you think should be done . The this should happen. What do you| think should be done . The Prime Minister is talking to various people today, including fans. What should be done . Well, the first thing we have to do should be done . Well, the first thing we have to do is should be done . Well, the first thing we have to do is to should be done . Well, the first thing we have to do is to get i should be done . Well, the first i thing we have to do is to get under way this review that the government had said in 2019, they put it in the manifesto, and we have been asking them to bring it forward and asking them to bring it forward and asking them is happening, so that is good. We need to get that under way swiftly. The reason for that is important because that should put the fans at the height of this process. Fortoo the fans at the height of this process. For too long supporters have been left out, all of this has happened over their heads. 1, lets get the fans at the height of the process. Next week need every bit of government to look at this and to work out the ways in which we can stop it. I have written to the competition and markets authority as i think on the face of it there are competition issues here at play and i have asked them to tell us whether they can investigate and, further, if they can commission a market study and give advice about what they can do. There are other options, as well, other ways in which the government could act, and i think we have to look at that. Just come back to my first point, lets make sure, however we take this forward, we get the supporters right at the frontier and make sure they are heard and listened to because the most distressing aspect of all of this for me is that their views, theirfeelings, their thoughts, the people who are at the heart of the game have been ridden roughshod over. 50 heart of the game have been ridden roughshod over. Roughshod over. So many things i swellin roughshod over. So many things i swelling about roughshod over. So many things i swelling about and roughshod over. One of the ideas is that players who play for these club teams these are Super League Team that should be banned from playing their National Team, would you think thatis their National Team, would you think that is the right thing. I think the players dont seem to have been| players dont seem to have been treated very well, either. I think they will be under that pressure. The governing bodies have rules and they will need to make sure those rules are upheld. It is not a question of supporting it or not supporting it, for me, i think it is a very sad fact that the consequences for players dont seem to have been taken into consideration and i think we have seen overnight. I think we have seen overnight. I think we have seen players expressing the fact that they found out about it at the same time as everybody else. I mean, what kind of aware is that to go . What about sentient clubs . I think that is pretty what about sentient clubs . I think that is pretty inevitable, what about sentient clubs . From the government, for from the organising leagues . From the government, for example, can they do anything, would you support them to ask them to do something . The government can take steps. As i said there are lots of different ways in which the government interacts with football and i think we need the government to lay those out. My problem such as it is with what the government has done is we could have had this review under way some time ago, but never mind. Now is better, as good a time as any to get on with it. When it comes to all the different ways at the government interacts with football, whether it is taxation or at the different ways in which it supports, for example, the money that is made available to football through the covid crisis or otherwise, i think it is what the government to set that out and we will work with them stop the most important thing, as i said, is to get the support at the height. I am sure ou get the support at the height. I am sure you are get the support at the height. I am sure you are aware get the support at the height. Six of the biggest clubs in the Premier League, it has been the story for the last 48 hours. Potentially breaking away and joining this European Super League with an above other teams. What does he think about it . Time now to get the news, travel and weather where you are. Good morning from bbc london, im alison earle. A council in east london is asking women to say where they feel unsafe in the borough to improve security. Barking and Dagenham Council wants residents to place a pin on an online map, showing the roads they feel are most dangerous. Councillors said the information gathered will be used to draw up new Public Safety proposals. More than 20 mp5 and peers have urged a school in Central London not to discipline pupils if they organise more protests. Last month students at Pimlico Academy staged a walkout over what they say are racist changes to the curriculum and uniform policy, brought in by the new principal. Those who organised the action were warned they could face permanent exclusion if there are more demos. We are trying to create a platform for that. You know, to normalise cycling for muslim women. And you could say, you know, to normalise cycling with hijab . You know, you can see ive got lycra, but its covered as well. So its all trying to, you know, create that space, that sanctuary for women. Lets take a look at the travel situation now. In Elephant And Castle, there are temporary Traffic Lights and roadworks on a3 kennington park road, southbound at the junction with newington butts. In the west end, Portman Street is closed in both directions between Oxford Street and Seymour Street for repairs. Four bus routes on diversion. In kingston, Traffic Lights not working on a308 wood street at steadfast road. In mitcham, london road is closed in both directions between wandle road and london road due to bridge maintenance work. We may well see one or two showers break out, but for the vast majority of us it should be completely dry. Temperature wise well be up to 15 or 16 celsius, maybe 17 in Central London, 18 perhaps, as we saw yesterday, in northolt. As we head through this evening and overnight, the winds will stay light, the skies will clear, and temperatures will drop to around three or four celsius into tomorrow morning, so it should be frost free. And then tomorrow, a cloudier start to the day. It should stay dry. More sunshine as we head through the afternoon, but therell also be a dip in temperature. Feeling cooler on thursday and friday, but again its dry, the winds are light, and we will keep the sunshine. Thats it for now. Plenty more on our website at the usual address. Now though its back to dan and louise. Ill be back in an hour. Bye for now. Hello, this is breakfast with Louise Minchin and dan walker. It is just after half past seven. Sallys got the sport. First of all, how disappointed are you about this proposal . I of all, how disappointed are you about this proposal . Of all, how disappointed are you about this proposal . I was in shock and disbelief about this proposal . I was in shock and disbelief and about this proposal . I was in shock and disbelief and disgust, about this proposal . I was in shock and disbelief and disgust, really. I and disbelief and disgust, really. When and disbelief and disgust, really. When the and disbelief and disgust, really. When the news came out. What sort of summed when the news came out. What sort of summed it when the news came out. What sort of summed it up for me is the timing that it summed it up for me is the timing that it came summed it up for me is the timing that it came out. Over midnight it was in that it came out. Over midnight it was in europe, over 11 oclock here in england was in europe, over 11 oclock here in england i was in europe, over 11 oclock here in england. I mean, they millions and millions of fans that are around the world and millions of fans that are around the world but not a care to give the statement the world but not a care to give the statement to anyone in this country or in europe statement to anyone in this country or in europe. It was designed for american or in europe. It was designed for american time. Does not not say it all . American time. Does not not say it all . Where american time. Does not not say it all . Not right what they are trying to do it not right what they are trying to do it is not right what they are trying to do. It is not competitive. It is a closed do. It is not competitive. It is a closed shop. You cant have a competition where nobody else is allowed competition where nobody else is allowed in. Look at the great work leicester allowed in. Look at the great work leicester have done, that west ham are doing leicester have done, that west ham are doing it leicester have done, that west ham are doing. If it were to happen all that good are doing. If it were to happen all that good work, they cant get involved that good work, they cant get involved with the elite. That is ust involved with the elite. That is just a involved with the elite. That is just a clear plain and simply wrong just a clear plain and simply wrong i just a clear plain and simply wrong. I mean, the owners are clearly wrong. I mean, the owners are clearly removed from the heritage of the competition, they dont have any sense the competition, they dont have any sense of the competition, they dont have any sense of the value of the clubs relationship with the fans and the communities. The clubs talk about being communities. The clubs talk about being a communities. The clubs talk about being a family and fans being the sole of being a family and fans being the sole of the club and how they have missed sole of the club and how they have missed fans in this pandemic, that is all missed fans in this pandemic, that is all we missed fans in this pandemic, that is all we have heard, the game isnt the same is all we have heard, the game isnt the same without the fans. Lets see what they the same without the fans. Lets see what they really feel about the fans what they really feel about the fans the what they really feel about the fans. The fans have now spoken and is clearly fans. The fans have now spoken and is clearly obvious that they, come away. Is clearly obvious that they, come away, dont is clearly obvious that they, come away, dont want that. There are 12, 15 clubs. Away, dont want that. There are 12, 15 clubs. 15 away, dont want that. There are 12, 15 clubs, 15 owners that want this, and thats 15 clubs, 15 owners that want this, and thats it 15 clubs, 15 owners that want this, and thats it. Everyone has spoken and thats it. Everyone has spoken and everyone is against it. Lets ust and everyone is against it. Lets just see and everyone is against it. Lets just see what their fans mean today football just see what their fans mean today Football Clubs. Football clubs. Alan, i know over the ears Football Clubs. Alan, i know over the years you Football Clubs. Alan, i know over the years you have Football Clubs. Alan, i know over the years you have experience i Football Clubs. Alan, i know over| the years you have experience of working with club owners who at times have been and shall be say challenging to work with. I am thinking about your club newcastle. What power do the fans have . What power do the players have against these hugely powerful, wealthy billionaire owners . These hugely powerful, wealthy billionaire owners . Well, they have a lot of power. Billionaire owners . Well, they have a lot of power, they billionaire owners . Well, they have a lot of power, they have billionaire owners . Well, they have a lot of power, they have put i billionaire owners . Well, they have a lot of power, they have put that l a lot of power, they have put that in the a lot of power, they have put that in the past a lot of power, they have put that in the past when the fans have spoken in the past when the fans have spoken. At times people have listened spoken. At times people have listened. Lets hope they listen to this listened. Lets hope they listen to this i listened. Lets hope they listen to this i do listened. Lets hope they listen to this. I do have my doubts. It is hugely this. I do have my doubts. It is hugely worrying foro sol. But i think hugely worrying foro sol. But i think when you look at the reaction ever since think when you look at the reaction ever since this was announced after 11 ever since this was announced after it oclock ever since this was announced after it oclock on ever since this was announced after 11 oclock on sunday evening, you can hear 11 oclock on sunday evening, you can hear and 11 oclock on sunday evening, you can hearand see 11 oclock on sunday evening, you can hear and see and feel the anger from can hear and see and feel the anger from almost everyone in football. They are being really awkward situation. They are being paid really awkward situation. They are being paid by that Football Club. Having being paid by that Football Club. Having to come out and talk against what their having to come out and talk against what their owners are wanting to do. I what their owners are wanting to do. I mean. You have seen the reaction from that you have seen the reaction from that so you have seen the reaction from that. So that tells us everything as well, that. So that tells us everything as well, doesnt it . Well, doesnt it . What was interesting well, doesnt it . What was interesting last well, doesnt it . What was interesting last night, i well, doesnt it . What was i interesting last night, jurgen well, doesnt it . What would somebody like jurgen klopp be able to do when dealing with that owners . He jurgen klopp be able to do when dealing with that owners . He was in a really difficult dealing with that owners . He was in a really difficult situation dealing with that owners . He was in a really difficult situation last a really difficult situation last evening a really difficult situation last evening. But he said as much as he could evening. But he said as much as he could say evening. But he said as much as he could say i evening. But he said as much as he could say. I mean, he made his feelings could say. Not quite as cold as it has been in recent days. The forecast for us all today is one of sunshine across england and wales, but across scotland and Northern Ireland it is cloudier and we have got some rain. The rain turning patio through the course of the day. You can see in the graphics where you have got the cloud and the rain in the north. It would sink south through the day very slowly and behind it it will brighten up. Sunshine coming across northern scotland. Later, Northern Ireland. A few showers. Hail showers in shetland. Ahead of it, we hang on to the sunshine. 17 degrees across parts of england and wales today. But behind the Weather Front producing the cloud and rain, even in the sunshine you will notice it will feel that bit cooler. It is a cold front sinking south. As we head on through the evening and overnight, the Weather Front Sinks Southwards bringing cloud with it, the odd spot of rain. Under some clear skies in scotland and Northern Ireland it would be cool enough for a touch of frost. Tomorrow, the Weather Front still very much remains with us across southern areas as a band of cloud. Behind it we will see a return to some sunshine. But there is the chance that we could well see one or two showers. Especially on the hills of scotland, Northern England and north wales. As we move through this week we continue to have High Pressure in charge of the weather. That does mean things will remain fairly settled. So by the time we get from wednesday afternoon into thursday, we still are looking at a lot of dry weather, a lot of sunshine. The front by then will be a weak affair, producing more than a band of cloud in southern areas. A lot of sunshine. Still with the onshore flow coming in from the north sea. Here there would be a breeze, it will feel much colder than it has done. There will be a real difference in temperatures between today and what is happening on thursday. But then it remained settled as we head into the weekend. A lot of dry weather. Temperatures might instead of the mid to the high teens, they will be in the low to the mid teens. Im going to leave you with pictures of these beautiful little kids. They are lovely. Thank you, carol. We will be back with all of you in about half an hour. The heiress paris hilton is probably best known as a successful reality tv star and businesswoman. But what people may not know about her is that when she was growing up, she attended a school for troubled teenagers, where she was restrained by staff. In an exclusive interview with bbc breakfast, paris explains why her experience has led her to support two mums here in the uk, who are trying to end the use of restraint on children with special needs. Breakfast s Jayne Mccubbin has more. This is harry. This is callum. This is paris. Three people who are worlds apart, but they all share one experience of childhood restraint. Just looking at those images bring back so many memories. Now, why did you take this decision to speak out about this, to share this . It was very difficult for me to share such a traumatic experience as a teenager, to have to endure that for two years of my life. Here we are at paris school. At 15, paris was sent to whats known as an Emotional Growth School in america. Theyre private boarding schools for troubled teenagers. Being restrained for no reason, seeing other kids be restrained, literally ten or 20 times a day. I made a promise to myself that i was never going to think about it, but it was never gone from my mind. It was something that always haunted me, and ifelt like my nightmares would stop if i helped other childrens nightmares stop. So in america, in february, a campaign backed by paris led to new legislation, restricting the use of restraint in schools. Then she turned her attention to the uk, tweeting this to her near 17 million followers. Support forfamilies of special Needs Children hoping to do exactly the same here. Harrys home. Harry has a learning disability and is nonverbal. He was five when his family noticed a change in his behaviour. He became really, really fearful of everything around them. He didnt want to move around our home. He became almost broken. They discovered he was being mechanically restrained in school, strapped into a chairfor lessons. Play assembly here, strapped in at the feet. I was psychologically harmed and he was emotionally harmed. Callum also has a learning disability. He was 11 when he came home from school with injuries. The teacher pulled. Callum off the bike, and unfortunately, his. Response was to lash out. Am i getting a hug . And that resulted in four| adults taking callum face down onto the ground in the gym hall. There were Police Investigations in both cases. A social worker said harrys restraint could be classed as physical abuse, but no further action was taken. Touch hands our children can get very frustrated because obviously they cant communicate like like you or i. So i hate the word meltdown, but, you know, whenever they do have this meltdown, it can be perceived as being naughty, being bad, but itsjust their way of communicating and telling you, look, im not happy. | i dont believe that teachers gol to School Every Day to say that, you know, were going to hurt children, but i do believe that we need to support the staff. We need to give the staff the right skills. These are children who are attempting to communicate the fact that they are not coping. This was the message the two families were taking to the Northern Ireland assembly, when paris hilton tweeted her support. And today, for the first time, weve brought them together. These are some of the images that have been shared with beth through her campaigning, that the teachers, the teaching assistants might say, we were only doing what we could to try and keep somebody safe in a really difficult moment. Ive experienced it first hand, so i know exactly what it is and how it feels. And as a child, its terrifying. Its just. It s traumatising. Its not ethical and its not treatment. Theres other ways to calm someone down. Ive had children as young as two years old, three years old, and in fact. 26 of the children i present, are just six years old. The difficult issue of how teachers deal with challenging behaviour is on the radar of governments across the uk, with new guidance for teachers in england, scotland and wales. But schools dont have to report incidents. The government in westminster told breakfast therell be times when restraint is the only realistic response to a situation. But, where possible, it should be avoided. The association of school and College Leaders said its important schools retain the authority to use physical interventions, but added its Good Practice to inform parents and carers. Its difficult for me to open up about this, because ive always wanted to project this perfect, happy life and this story had no place in that. Can i ask, did that affect your trust in people . Definitely. Especially adults that, when youre a kid, theyre supposed to be there, for them to heal and help you, and theyre doing nothing but traumatising you, its really hard to ever trust anyone. Harry experience night terrors. It does cause a lot of mistrust and anxiety. Neither harry nor callums schools chose to comment. The government in Northern Ireland told us they are examining this issue right now. And today, the chair of the Education Committee told us he has cross Party Support for harrys law. If passed, schools there would be the first in the uk legally required to report use of restraint and seclusion. The children we represent, they have no voice. And thats why you using your voice to speak up for them is just absolutely amazing. Thank you. Children deserve love and to be respected. And if they are going through something, they they dont need to be even more traumatized than they already are. When theyre adults, this is going to affect them for the rest of their lives. And this is what i want my mission in life to be. And my legacy. Jane mccubbin, bbc news. Very interesting what they were saying about giving these young people a voice. Many thanks to everybody for taking part in that report. Stay with us, headlines coming up. Good morning, welcome to breakfast with Louise Minchin and dan walker. Our headlines today. The row over footballs breakaway European Super League continues, borisjohnson says hell show the plans a straight red. The chairman of the new league speaks for the first time. Real madrids Florentino Perez says it could save football. But there is so much anger amongst fans, pundits, and now players are speaking out too. The super league have chucked a grenade at the Premier League and chucked a grenade to everyone else. Well, took one back, and then. India is added to the uks red list. Most travel from the country will be banned from friday, because of fears over a new variant of coronavirus. Hes already raised more than £1. 5 million for charity, and now tony hudgell s preparing for his next challenge inspired again by captain sir tom moore. Good morning from Odds Farm Park in buckinghamshire. We have been talking about rare breed of goats and this is one. It is a lovely start to the day here in buckinghamshire. The sun is out, for many that will be a forecast. Dry, sunny and fairly one for the time of year. Scotland and Northern Ireland, more clout for you and also some ray. All the details in about ten minutes. More cloud for you. Its tuesday 20th april. Our top story. Boris johnson will meet Football Fans and officials today, as the backlash over plans for a new European Super League intensifies. Lets speak to our chief Political Correspondent adam fleming. Louisa said an hour ago that we dont normally talk to you about football but it is high on the Prime Ministers list of priorities. Absolutely the bigger story at westminster this morning the Prime Minister will host a virtual roundtable at downing street with the fa, the Premier League and lots of representatives of Football Fans themselves. And that is the first line of defence, as the government sees it, the sports bodies acting first to try and intervene here. It is only if they fail to intervene and this goes ahead that the government will then intervene itself and Government Departments are looking at all the options available to them. They say they are ruling nothing out and it is things like could you make it harder for these clubs to get visas to bring in foreign players . What about withdrawing the Financial Support they have had during the covid pandemic . Do you even pass a law in parliament to stop this league from happening, which would be quite an extreme option. And in the long term, they have asked Tracey Crouch to do a review of how the relationship works between clubs, their owners and fans. That is very much for the long term. It is not clear what is going to happen when because this is such a developing, evolving situation, but there are definitely very strong passions here at westminster. But then there is a risk for the government here. They have come in at so and so loud against this Breakaway League that if it happens it might look like the government could get the blame for not stopping it and they are not entirely in control of this process. Thank you. It has become a high stakes game of political poker. Earlier we spoke to the Premier Leagues all time leading goal scorer, alan shearer, who said the six english clubs who have signed up to this should be kicked out of the Premier League. The super league have chucked a grenade at the Premier League and chucked a grenade to everyone else. Well, chuck one back. Ban them. Ban them immediately if you can. If they can and im sure that theyll look at every possible legal angle and what pressure theyre under in doing that but if you can, do it. Absolutely. Another thing alan shearer said was. We are hearing from players and awkward interviews of players and awkward interviews of players and managers of these clubs involve but very few of the owners and those Decision Makers have actually spoken. One of the men at the forefront of the plans real madrids president and the chairman of the newly formed European Super League, Florentino Perez. Lets get more reaction from europe now. Italy has three clubs whove joined the European Super League. Nick beake is in milan. We have seen so much concern and criticism from here. That is reflected in some of the italian papers this morning. This says stop them. Another says that the super league is threatening to blow up, to explode football. Europe in a war of football. Another headline here says that italy is building a wall against the idea of the super league. And finally, it splits business, the business of football, but the stock market like it that is something a lot of we have been talking to think, that it is money that talks here and that is a sentiment we have been hearing back in the uk. There is this opposition from the fans. So by three italian clubs have signed up to it, juventus, the biggest at the moment, is saying its position on the stock market has really surged at this news and that has only really reinforced the suspicion of the fans that this is about the big bucks and the people who own the clubs rather than the very loyal fans. Than the very loyal fans. Thank you for that, than the very loyal fans. Thank you for that. Nick. Than the very loyal fans. Thank you for that, nick, from than the very loyal fans. Our Transport Correspondent Caroline Davies reports. Delhi is going into lockdown. Cases are rising across india, and theres a growing concern about the so called indian variant of the coronavirus. While its under investigation, the uk government has taken a new step. While weve made the difficult but vital decision to add india to the red list. Vic and his family are currently in ghaziabad on the outskirts of delhi. I immediately looked into the flights. So, a, i couldnt get any flights back home. B, i have to quarantine with a small child now that is another worry. C, it is ridiculously expensive to be in Hotel Quarantine for ten days. But the variant here in india is worrying people have started panicking about it. There is a sense of panic around. International travel from england could still restart to some countries from the 17th of may, but this announcement shows it will be a while until the world is open as the list of countries designated red gets longer, not shorter. The United States is bracing for the outcome of the case, which is seen as a key moment in american Race Relations and policing. Wales will see its Lockdown Restrictions eased further from saturday with six people from six different households being able to meet outdoors. It you just yet but it is beautiful. It is indie. You are seeing an aerial view of Odds Farm Park in buckinghamshire, which is 35 acres stop it is huge. I want to zoom you in to the pig enclosure. This pig here is winnie the pooh or pooh for short. She is saddleback, she is with child, due in three days, and quite rare. I will tell you about that in a second because i want to introduce you also to the tamworth pigs. Wally is the larger, the mail, and wilma is the female. They at the moment are bonding and if the bonding works then they will deliver, well, the lady will, a litter of piglets, may as 12. In three months, three weeks and three days. The tamworth, like the saddleback, is a vulnerable breed with only 200 to 300 registered breeding females so lovely to see them asking in the morning sunshine. They are quite noisy because they are waiting for food. The forecast for all of us is mixed. For england and wales it will be a sunny day. For scotland and Northern Ireland, you are not going to start a cloudy with rain, but as it slips south and easy as it slips south and eases it will brighten up behind it. To put some pictures on that you can see where any. Still some mist and fog and low cloud, it securely around parts of the midlands, part of the east coast of england, most of that will disperse, some will bend back towards the north sea coast lie. A lot of sunshine once again for england and wales. The Weather Front producing the cloud in increasingly patchy rain across scotland and Northern Ireland to slips south. Behind it, sunshine and showers but feeling cooler. Still in england and wales we could hitch up to 17 degrees today. Through this evening and overnight at the weather continues southward, with its cloud and increasingly, again, patchy rain and increasingly, again, patchy rain and some drizzle. Behind it, parts of scotland and Northern Ireland in rural areas, we can see frost, but not anywhere else. As we go through tomorrow weatherford will be in the south, a band of cloud, but tomorrow you can see the with height. The hills of Northern England, north wales, southern scotland. Cool along the north sea coastline with an onshore breeze and generally tomorrow temperatures will be lower across the board than they are going to be today. After that, well, the weather remains settled as High Pressure continues to dominate. Carol, thank you. Back with you in half an hour. Is carol, thank you. Back with you in half an hour half an hour. Nasa has successfully flown a small helicopter on mars the first ever powered flight on another planet. Steady on watch out we have our own version of it right here in the breakfast studio. The small drone, which is called ingenuity, was in the air for less than a minute. It reached a height of around three metres, where it hovered briefly before returning to the ground. A bit like this one here. Almost exactly like a bit like this one here. Almost exactly like that. Nasa is promising more adventurous flights in the next few days. Yes, i yes, lam yes, i am so. And they cant do that on mars with ingenuity because it takes 20 minutes with ingenuity because it takes 20 minutes for the signal to get there so they minutes for the signal to get there so they had to develop a system that they can so they had to develop a system that they can automate and send the commands up and the technical achievement is because the air, the atmosphere of mars is a self then, to make atmosphere of mars is a self then, to make your drone fly it has to has left to make your drone fly it has to has left so to make your drone fly it has to has left so thin. It has to have left from left so thin. It has to have left from the left so thin. A group of mps and peers have urged a school in Central London not to discipline pupils if they organise more protests. Last month students at Pimlico Academy staged a walkout over what they say are racist changes to the curriculum and uniform policy. Those who organised the action were warned they could face permanent exclusion if there are further demos. Teachers there are also due to hold a ballot on whether to go on strike. As many of us take up new forms of exercise during lockdown, a club in North West London is trying to make cycling more accessible. Evolve is a group encouraging muslim women to get on a bike. Some members have never cycled before theyjoined. The aim is to build skills and increase confidence. There are minor delays on the District Line between earls court and wimbledon due to a signalling problem. Two lanes closed on the a2 from eltham heading into town because of a crash. Traffic is bumper to bumper. In the west end, Portman Street is closed in both directions between Oxford Street and Seymour Street for repairs. Four bus routes are on diversion. In kingston, Traffic Lights arent working on a308 wood street at steadfast road. Thats it for now. Plenty more on our website at the usual address. Now though its back to dan and louise. Ill be back in half an hour. Bye for now. Hello, this is breakfast with Louise Minchin and dan walker. Morning live follows breakfast on bbc one. The rain turning weaker as we go through the day. Behind it we will see the sun coming back with some showers. Some could be hailing the far north of scotland. England and wales we are looking at a lot of sunshine with temperatures up as high as 17 degrees, but behind the Weather Front high as 17 degrees, but behind the weatherfront in high as 17 degrees, but behind the Weather Front in the north we are looking at temperatures much lower than they were yesterday. Through this evening and overnight or a Weather Front this evening and overnight or a weatherfront sinks this evening and overnight or a Weather Front Sinks Southwards, with its band of cloud, and the odd spot of rain. Behind that, for scotland and Northern Ireland, locally it will be cold enough for a touch of frost. Ahead of it, for england and wales, and under that cloud, temperatures will hold up. We shouldnt have any frosty seas. Tomorrow the Weather Front continues to sink southwards as a band of cloud. Behind it, most of us will see some sunshine. Cooler on the north sea coastline. Temperatures across the board will be lower than they are going to be today. You will notice a bit of a difference. Beyond that as we head into the rest of this week and into the weekend, High Pressure remains firmly in charge. The weather will remain rather settled with a lot of dry weather. No significant rain.
