It can spread more quickly than the original version. There are worries about people getting reinfected, and then theres the question of how it could affect vaccines. We have no Clinical Data or Clinical Trials data relating to Vaccine Efficacy for this p1 variant. However, the mutations that are present in this variant are highlighting some concern for us. So we definitely are trying to contain the spread, so that it does not have an impact on our vaccine programme. Surge testing will start tomorrow in parts of south gloucestershire. Two cases are confirmed there and linked back to travel in brazil. Another three people have tested positive in north east scotland. They had been to brazil recently, too. Were going to contact the passengers just as fast as we can, were going to check they havent had symptoms. Some of them may have had, randomly or connected. Were going to check if any have had tests and well do genetics on those tests. Authorities are also trying to identify a sixth case. Someone who took a test on february 12 or 13 did not register it properly. This isnt the first variant of concern weve had to deal with. And, in fact, this is pretty similar to the one first found in south africa. Now, Surge Testing for that did pick up a small number of cases, but less than 0. 2 of all the people they tested had that variant. And in fact, since they first started looking for the south africa variant, theyve only found 250 cases of it across the uk. All this makes the vaccine roll out ever more important. And today, a new milestone more than 20 Million People have now had their first dose. The first steps back to normality will be taken in schools, and testing will be a key part of the fight to stay on top of the virus as pupils head back, including naomi georges five year old daughter. Like all adults living with a pupil in england, naomi will be encouraged to test herself at home a couple of times a week. Its one line. So one line means im very unlikely to have covid. I mean, its not hassle free, going to pick them up from the testing centre. But we will be doing it. Its worth doing. Weve got a quiet few days of weather coming up, some sunshine to come, some frosty mornings, a bit of fog around as well, but theres a tendency for the weather to turn a bit cloudier over the next few days and certainly a lot cooler by the end of the week as well. Right now, were seeing some low cloud. Some mist and fog patches move in across east anglia. They will continue to spread westwards over the next few hours, into the midlands, central and eastern parts of wales. Could be a few fog patches elsewhere. Where we keep the clear skies, though, its going to be cold with some frost, temperatures getting down to about minus three celsius in the very coldest spots, so could be a grey start for quite a few of you but there will be some cloud in scotland probably keeping the worst of the fog at bay here. That cloud will thin and break, with some spells of sunshine coming through later on. And actually, Northern Ireland should have a decent day too. Its probably across parts of east anglia, the midlands, central and eastern areas of wales where the low cloud and fog is most likely to linger. And where that happens, well, temperatures might only reach 7 degrees. Maybe thats even a bit generous. But for most of the uk, i think well see some sunshine and temperatures pushing on into double figures. For tuesday, same area of High Pressure still involved in the weather forecast, but we do have a little trough moving up from the south west. I think for many, it will be a rather grey start to the day on tuesday, with some mist and fog patches, some low cloud as well. There will be some sunshine to come through, particularly across scotland and into north west england, Western Parts of wales probably doing quite well as well, but later in the afternoon, well start to see that trough thicken the cloud up across the southwest, threatening some patches of rain. That rain could become a little bit more extensive as we head towards wednesday. That is across parts of Southern Wales and across southern counties of england. Could see a little bit of rain just about anywhere. And around some of these eastern coasts, i reckon its probably going to be quite grey, with the threat of a few patches of drizzle coming in from the north sea from time to time.
