Earlier i spoke to him from very afc and asked what they hoped would come out of this meeting. We wouldnt start off in the football league, or reinstating the football league, or reinstating the football league, or reinstating the football league, basically, what it would be is, it is a phoenix club but either way, if it was to be liquidated, whether it was his version of it or whether it was the one that weve been working on. So a difficult time for Football Clubs from lower leagues. But one chief executive officer has actually increased revenue and has been credited with an upsurge in home attendances. The ceo of mansfield town, Carolyn Radford was named as league twos ceo of the year for 2019 in the football business awards. I caught up with her earlier and asked xxxi i caught up with her earlier and asked what can be done to keep those fans coming . We do a lot with social media, which is obviously massive in this day and age, we listen to them, we are very attentive towards what they are asking for. And we have tried to make the club busy all the time, so you can go down to the one course stadium any day of the week, not just match days, course stadium any day of the week, notjust match days, and you can have you know, sunday lunch there, you can watch sports, and we have restau ra nts a nd bars you can watch sports, and we have restaurants and bars and lots of clu b eve nts, restaurants and bars and lots of club events, so we just made it really a fun place to be, and we put the Football Club back into the hearts of mansfield. Is very much a family affair, you are married to the owner, john. But a lot of club owners need deep pockets, carolyn, how difficult is it to notjust keep throwing money at the problem until you get yourself into difficulties . Well, its very difficult because you dont get as much money, obviously, as if you are in the premier league or the championship. But we really make sure that we balance things properly. We look after the football clu b to properly. We look after the Football Club to make it sustainable, because you hear about these tragedies like with barry. So for us, we make sure that we dont overspend. Bury. Which is quite difficult you know, my husband is from mansfield, and his heart is in the Football Club. So its often a case of saying, well, we can do that right now. And making sure that you make a really to your business decisions. And making sure that you make a really to your business decisionslj mean, really to your business decisions. mean, the club has been going through a tough time the pitch as well, 18th and the league, you had to suck your manager last weekend. John dempster, and replaced him with graham conklin. How do you keep fans supportive during tough times . Its been really difficult, to be honest, everybodys heads have been down. The football players, they dont wa nt to the football players, they dont want to be in this situation. And they are of very talented group of players. Now its a case of you know picking everybody back again, going again, and you know, making sure that attendances dont drop, and that attendances dont drop, and that people come out and support the manager. But, yeah, i mean football isa manager. But, yeah, i mean football is a strange thing. You can never guarantee anything, and you know, we we re guarantee anything, and you know, we were favourites to be promoted this season. We just missed were favourites to be promoted this season. Wejust missed out last season. Wejust missed out last season. The season before. So, expectation levels were high, and we have not met that expectation level. So now is a case ofjust taking each game as it comes. But graham is a great manager, and he managed to do very well at bristol, and he got them from the bottom of the table to them from the bottom of the table to the top of the table quite quickly. So, hopefully, he can do it for us. Do you look at other clubs, carolyn, who have fallen follow of some of the difficulties that lower leagues can be presented with lake bury, like macclesfield and bolton, and do you think to yourself, well, we need to make sure we dont do that . Absolutely. We are the main custodians of the Football Club. So it is our duty to make sure that it is around for generations to come. It is very important to a lot of people, and, you know, it is an absolute travesty when football clu bs a re absolute travesty when Football Clubs are mismanaged, and miss run. And, you know, inevitably, they go out of business. Its a very difficult industry, football, in many different ways. You have to just be very measured and look at it as a business and run it as a business. Carolyn radford speaking to me earlier. Russia will appeal the decision to ban the country from major sporting events for four years. The World Anti Doping Agency issued the ban because of russias failure to co operate fully during an investigation into doping in russian sport. Our sports news correspondent Alex Capstick has more.
