Now weve got a row over this much more traditional media format over that channel for debate last night. When it comes to television pieces like this, there is no set formula for what goes on telly during an election. These things are the result of negotiations and broadcasters and politicians so we know borisjohnson did do that head to head withJeremy Corbyn, another one of those that has been scheduled for the bbc for next week. But one thing he hasnt agreed to was another one of these big set pieces which is a 30 minute forensic grilling with the bbcs andrew neil. He was asked last night if you would commit to that. This is a big interview, all the other leaders have agreed to do it, will you join them leaders have agreed to do it, will youjoin them in leaders have agreed to do it, will you join them in being interviewed oii you join them in being interviewed on the bbc before election day . dont want to pre empt any discussions that may be taking place but ive no doubt all sorts of people i will talk to and i look forward to their result. Is that yes or fio. Forward to their result. Is that yes or no. Other people are getting involved in these conversations. Its not myjob, they will be deciding and discussing. Nicola sturgeon and Jeremy Corbyn have done one of those interviews and we expect that argument to rumble on. We are in an election campaign. What are the announcements . Conservatives are the announcements . Conservatives are making a big announcement on 0fsted, the School Inspection service. They want to put in more funding and it seen significant cuts in recent years and they want to make those inspections longer, from two days to three days. That would focus on things like bullying and they are focusing on piloting no notice inspections which was previously rejected. Schools get told the day before when Office Inspectors are coming. Labour is launching a series of regional ma nifestoes. Launching a series of regional manifestoes. The shadow chancellor has described this as an investment lets and it includes things like 12 steel and Plastics Recycling plants and three electric battery making facilities, the idea being to boost regional incomes with green environmental concerns. The families of those who died in the 1989 Hillsborough Disaster have reacted angrily, after a jury cleared the match commander on the day of gross negligence manslaughter. |t had been alleged David Duckenfield had a personal responsibility for what happened, as our correspondentJudith Moritz reports. David duckenfield has been a blame figure for 30 years. In charge at hillsborough when disaster happened. That he failed isnt in dispute but his trial ended with not guilty verdict and with tears for the hillsborough families. 96 people we re hillsborough families. 96 people were found to have been unlawfully killed to a criminal standard by an inquest jury killed to a criminal standard by an inquestjury and killed to a criminal standard by an inquest jury and somebody killed to a criminal standard by an inquestjury and somebody has got to be held responsible for 96 deaths. The families of struggle to reconcile the two different core processes theyve gone through. A crown core jury processes theyve gone through. A crown corejury did processes theyve gone through. A crown core jury did not accept the prosecution case that David Duckenfields failings was so exceptionally bad they were a substantial cause of the disaster. It comes four years after an inquest jury it comes four years after an inquest jury found that 96 were unlawfully killed. Who is accountable for the 96 in their graves . Who is accountable for 96 unlawfully killed. What a disgrace this has been today. For the last seven yea rs, been today. For the last seven years, hundreds of detectives have been gathering evidence into hillsborough, costing £65 million, Operation Resolve is the longest ever criminal investigation in england. The hillsborough families say over 30 years, opportunities have been missed to prosecute the full number of people and institutions which could have been held responsible for the disaster. With this trial, the jurors only had one man to consider and they werent willing to make him solely responsible for the debt. 96 men, women, and children were killed. The youngest, aged ten. The oldest, a pensioner. In 2016, the hillsborough families sang to celebrate the unlawful killing finding at the inquest but the 30 yearjourney of this disaster has taken many twists and turns. Patients and sympathy tested again and again. David duckenfield has been on trial three times including a private prosecution brought by the family is 19 years ago. There is some finality down in todays verdict. It means no one will be jailed for so many lives lost. Judith moritz, bbc news. President trump has made a surprise visit to american troops in afghanistan his first since taking office. He told them the us and the taliban have been engaged in talks. 0ur washington correspondent, Chris Buckler reports. Donald trump arrived in afghanistan on a trip surrounded by secrecy and a huge amount of security. The white house said the visit was intended to show support for troops during americas thanksgiving holiday, and he made a point of serving food to soldiers who are thousands of miles away from their families. And i was all set to go and i had some of the mashed potatoes and i had a bite of mashed potatoes and i never got to the turkey but while officials insisted the visit was not connected to peace talks with the taliban, it comes just a week after afghanistan freed three taliban members as part of a prisoner swap for two western academics. And as mr trump met afghanistans president , ashraf ghani, he confirmed that peace talks had restarted with the group, just a couple of months after they appeared to collapse. The taliban wants to make a deal well see if they want to make a deal its got to be a real deal but well see, this was the us president s second visit to an active conflict zone since taking office. Last christmas, he flew to iraq and while mr trump has praised the work of american troops in the middle east, he has made no secret of his desire for them to leave, and his resolve seems to have been hardened by the recent death of the Islamic State leader, abu bakr al baghdadi. He is dead, his second is dead, his third we have the sights on the third, i think the third does not want the job. With this overseas trip, mr trump has again emphasised that the soldiers he was visiting should be going home but, while the president stated that the us would be substantially reducing its presence in afghanistan, he did not give numbers or any sort of timeframe. Chris buckler, bbc news, washington. Time to talk to jane and find out what is happening in sport. Its are rolling all over the place. Not quite yet. When you Start Talking about it.
