Are given more time to question the lorrys driver. Also on the programme. Let us in republican lawmakers disrupt an impeachment hearing by storming the room. They say the investigation shouldnt take place behind closed doors, but will their protest make a difference . And, winning the world series one game at a time the Washington Nationals beat houston in game two. It could be one of the sports biggest upsets. Hello and welcome. Im Michelle Fleury in washington, Christian Fraser is in london. Borisjohnson has written to the labour Leaderjeremy Corbyn setting out proposals for a general election on december 12th. In the letter he says he is extremely sceptical, that parliaments habit of voting to delay brexit will change and a further delay he says will do nothing other than waste more time. The Prime Minister says he will be putting forward an election motion for parliament to vote on, on monday. It would require a 2 3 majority to pass. Mrjohnson says if labour votes in favour of the motion, the government will timetable the brexit legislation again providing time for scrutiny until the 6th november, when parliament would be dissolved. Previously labour has said it would not back an election until the eu had given the uk a brexit extension. This is a party, Jeremy Corbyn and the labour party that have called repeatedly for a general election. They have called for an election to be delayed until there is ideal in brexit, until there is be delayed until there is ideal in brexit, untilthere is an be delayed until there is ideal in brexit, until there is an extension. They have got their Hearts Desire and now is the time to be reasonable, to agree, that with the extra time that would be available, a considerable chunk of time, for parliament to get together, for mps across the house to come together, look at this bill properly, get it done, but agree also that we can then go to a general election. 50 then go to a general election. So lets go to vicky young who is in the lobby for us. I never trust my maths, 650 mps in the house so if you get to the service you get to about 434 and looking at all the smaller parties you cannot do this without labour being on board . You cannot on the problem borisjohnson has is that even the snp are not on board. They are saying that Boris Johnson is saying, give me the bill which i want, a deal which they dont think its any good at all, and give me the general election i wa nt and give me the general election i want as well. They are not willing to go along with those terms and they think it would be agreeing to something borisjohnson they think it would be agreeing to something Boris Johnson wants they think it would be agreeing to something borisjohnson wants is not something borisjohnson wants is not something they want. The liberal democrats have said they will not vote for an election until they are sure the uk cannot cash out without ideal. Whether that means once we hear from the eu about that brexit extension which could be as early as tomorrow, if they grant a three month extension, maybe the liberal democrats would change their mind, but the smaller parties think this is the selection by the government because what is happening todayis government because what is happening today is that Boris Johnson government because what is happening today is that borisjohnson is government because what is happening today is that Boris Johnson is for the first time admitting he will not be able to abide by the promise he made repeatedly and has made four months, that do or die, he will make sure the uk leaves the eu by 31st october. That will not happen now and what they think is happening here isa and what they think is happening here is a lot of headlines happening about an election which he knows full we ll about an election which he knows full well he is not going to get. So the promise of do or die, we will be out of the eu october 31 is dead. Given that it is not in his gift to call a general election, can you shed more light on what the thinking is in downing street right now . M asa is in downing street right now . M as a big problem for him. One senior conservatives said it is ridiculous, borisjohnson is conservatives said it is ridiculous, Boris Johnson is pretending conservatives said it is ridiculous, borisjohnson is pretending he has power in this relationship is parliament and he doesnt. He is 23 mps short of a majority and that is very ha rd mps short of a majority and that is very hard for him to get much through Parliament Although he got the queens speech vote through today, but he cant really govern, so today, but he cant really govern, so lots of his own mps, and i spoke to lots of conservatives today, they think, most of them, what he should do is carry on with that bill. The Withdrawal Agreement bill. It went through its first stage earlier this week and he thinks it should go back to the house of commons and get that through first. There is not much of an appetite here certainly amongst labour mps an appetite here certainly amongst labourmps or an appetite here certainly amongst labour mps or amongst many conservative mps for a general election, particularly one that held so election, particularly one that held so close to christmas. Thank you for that. Reaction coming in all the time. Ian blackford saying he wants an election earlier. He says he wa nts an election earlier. He says he wants an election but these terms are unacceptable. Every vote will count on monday. A senior figure in the former Tory Rebel Alliance has told the editor of newsnight that he doesnt want to vote for an election, so the 21 ex conservative mps not all thinking the same way. Lets speak now to rupa huq labour mp. Nice to see you. What do you think about this . Are you prepared to vote foran about this . Are you prepared to vote for an election . I dont think we should be pushed around by Boris Johnson and he is trying to blackmail and belay parliament into an election for his own personal gain because, as your reporter said, to reflect from the fact he said do ordie. He said to reflect from the fact he said do or die. He said he would die in a ditch, so i say lets help him locate the dutch and die. Except Jeremy Corbyn had said for a long time he wanted a general election and then said he didnt want one until there was an extension and we know that will probably be granted on friday, so how can you put forward an excuse on monday once that extension is in place that you dont want an election . Lets see what the eu says tomorrow. Again, it is on the basis that this is the worst of all worlds. Boris johnson is saying that his defective deal that we didnt allow him to have the rush passage of the other day, that he will run that through parliament and then we have an election. The deal was even worse than that of theresa may. The worst thing to do is disentangle. The spanner in the works is brexit so if you take that away from all the election gimmickry. Are you sure this is not with the polls . John curtice says labour was not in this position since 1983 around the time of michael foot. I didnt quite finish my sentence. I dont put too much faith in polls because twice they saidi faith in polls because twice they said i wouldnt be elected and last timel said i wouldnt be elected and last time i was also behind in the polls and my majority went up by a factor of 50. We need to start brexit before we have an election and i would love to have an election. I think every day Boris Johnson is would love to have an election. I think every day borisjohnson is in power as a day too long and i would love to get rid of him but he has been electioneering, this thinly disguised election the whole of august. The queens speech actually passed today so what was the point of that if he is going to short circuit parliament . This is somebody obviously used to getting his way so he is willing to suspend parliament if it is not doing what he wants. It is a trap and what we need to do is extricate brexit out of the equation because an election didnt solve anything last time when theresa may tried that. If you take that out and offer a single issue referendum just on brexit then you can sort that issue, then you can proceed to an election on all the other issues on which this country so other issues on which this country so badly needs a Labour Government. Given the deadlock we have seen, the risk is that the Withdrawal Agreement deal goes back, the amendments in the process drags on and on and there is that sense that people just want to get it done. Isnt there a point to be made, lets call that election and that puts pressure on you to firm up what your position is and what people can expect from a Labour Government . The thing is, an election in a four Party Political system can be won on 30 of the vote so that is fundamentally dishonest. 70 of people annoyed and if you are a leaf author and remain seat or a main voter in the leaf seat your voice is completely cancelled out so you need to do it, do a referendum, a binding referendum this time, on the single issue of the european deal once that comes back, because again it is only an outline agreement at the moment, so an outline agreement at the moment, so lets put this through its parliamentary pieces properly with scrutiny once that comes out the otherend, andl scrutiny once that comes out the other end, and i and other colleagues said we would be prepared to agree to a Boris Johnson deal going through on the proviso that it had a referendum attached to it, and then let people decide on that issue because it started with a referendum and it should end with it. He is trying to hoodwink people away from the fact his do or die pledge failed and bamboozle people into the selection. We are not going to be bullied around by him. I dont want to be anyway. We shall see how the vote goes on monday, thank you so much forjoining us. Police have released more details about the 39 people found dead in a refrigerated lorry here in britain. They are all believed to have been chinese nationals, they include 8 women and 31 men. A Company Based in dublin has confirmed it owns the trailer. Global trailer rentals say they leased it on the 15th octoberfrom a yard in County Monaghan in ireland. The firm has given essex Police Information about the person that leased it. A timeline is now emerging detailing the containers movements in the runup to its discovery in the early hours of wednesday morning. It arrived at the belgian port of zeebrugge at 2. 49pm local time, tuesday afternoon. According to police it then left the port that same day to arrive in the essex port of purfleet at half past midnight the following morning. The front part of the lorry crossed at holyhead from Northern Ireland and picked up the trailer at purfleet docks, on the thames just after 1am. Half an hour later, the driver stopped his truck at an Industrial Park in grays, essex a short distance away. He has told police he opened the trailer to get his paperwork and discovered the 39 bodies inside. Lets go then to zeebrugge and speak to the bbcs anna holligan. The suggestion is that the means used to detect people that are hidden in lorries is not as good as it might be at other ports like calais. Precisely, and that is kind of business as usual at least on the surface here. About 4000 containers are travelling from here in belgium to the uk every single day. And it is also a hotspot for people smugglers as we know and as the authorities have known from at least 2016, so much so that the uk has a permanent presence here, to border force teams, and we know that this is where they came from, so the Harbour Master has been given a bit more detail about the type of security they have in place year, so lorries coming into the sport are filmed and the drivers identified, and then they carried out co2 sensor scans on the lorries and containers that have canvas tops, but not on those that are sealed, unless there is any sign that the seal has been tampered with and of course we know these 39 people were inside a sealed refrigerated container which is why they couldnt escape by themselves. So that is one of the things they are looking at here, so this whole issue of people smuggling from belgium, moving up potentially from calais is something the locals are conscious of, and also the local may r. He said they have an average 50 migrants picked up here every single month is trying to get across to the uk. He speculated that a recent rise was bound to brexit and people seeing the sights kind of their last chance before the border gets even tighter, this porous sea border between the european continent and british mainland, and in fact earlier this morning the Police Detained eight migrants who were trying to climb a fence into a compound of a Trucking Company here in zeebrugge so the fact that it happened than the try to get across from belgium isnt surprising, but possibly what is is their nationality. The fact these 39 people were chinese nationals and we we re people were chinese nationals and we were speaking to one migration expert who said it could be that this is possibly the tip of an iceberg we didnt even know existed, so iceberg we didnt even know existed, so this is one of the things the prosecutors here are focusing on. Lets speak now to retired Police Detective mick gradwell, who was one of the investigators in a similar tragic case from 15 years ago when 23 undocumented Chinese Workers drowned while cockle picking in Morecambe Bay in lancashire. Hejoins us now from preston. We just heard from anna saying one of the things that caught authorities by surprise was the nationality of those inside. Why is that the case . It is difficult to say but my experience of this kind of incident is with Chinese People. I have learned from the coast where they 58 Chinese People died in the dover incident. I have been retired for a few years but certainly from 2005 under in that period it was one of the main issues the country had to face, illegal immigration from chinese emigrants who had been trafficked to the uk. I dont know the current picture. Given the distance you are talking about from china all the way to the broker and ultimately to essex where the truck was found, why are they making this difficult journey . What was found, why are they making this difficultjourney . What are the circumstances driving them to take this route . And the Morecambe Bay case, the victims came from a place called the fijian province, one of the poorest and most deprived areas in the world. The only way these people could improve their lives for theirfamily people could improve their lives for their family was to send a Senior Memberof the family their family was to send a Senior Member of the family unit, get them trafficked to an economic opportunity, and to do that they go toa opportunity, and to do that they go to a snake head gang, a criminal travel agent, and they take a loan from that gang that allows them to be trafficked through mainland europe to the uk where they are promised work at higher rates but when they do work some of the money goes to the People Housing them in the uk, some goes to payoff the loan they have ta ken the uk, some goes to payoff the loan they have taken and some goes back to family, but it is basically deprived and very poor people thinking they can make a lot of money in a place like the uk. Why do you think they have come this way . Asi you think they have come this way . As i understand that they used to come on a tourist visa and actually fly into the country and then outstay the tourist visa. This is a much more risky route to travel. Is it because security has got tighter . I dont think so. I think it is a mixture. I i dont think so. I think it is a mixture. Lam i dont think so. I think it is a mixture. I am aware of a number of people, thousands of people who used to present themselves at terminals and heathrow and ask for political asylum, but i gain, a lot of people, many thousands of people in the early part of the 2000 were coming to the country through the ports on the back of lorries and were waiting in paris for them to have it identified which vehicles would take them through. It is not new. The point is, you dont know what you dont know and you dont know how many people in recent weeks, months and years have managed to be trafficked into the country in this way. As the police try to identify this, identify the 39, you have experience of this. A group of chinese migrants who died on the beach. How difficult is it to piece it all together . The senior identification Managers Team have a difficultjob but i consider that already there will be Chinese People trying to make contact with people from the Chinese Council in this country, and the police are likely to get the information of saying, it is our relative we believe has died. What they will have to do is send office rs what they will have to do is send officers to china eventually and ta ke officers to china eventually and take dna samples as part of the identification process. At this stage i would be quite hopeful that essex police eventually would be able to identify all of these 39 victims. Senior investigating officer in the 2004 Morecambe Bay tragedy, thank you for that. And later in the story we will be revisiting the story with an immigration lawyer who represents chinese trafficking victims in the uk. For now, back to the us. Republicans put on quite the show in the capitol yesterday as they grapple with how to respond to President Trumps growing abuse of power scandal. Two dozen gop lawmakers tried to storm a high security hearing room where laura cooper, the American Defence official overseeing ukraine and russia, was due to testify in an impeachment inquiry into donald trump. They were protesting what they see as the secretive nature of the democrats investigation. Police were called to clear the room and restore order. President trump clearly approved of the tactic, tweeting earlier today. Thank you to House Republicans for being tough, smart, and understanding in detail the greatest witch hunt in american history. It comesjust days after mr trump had urged members of his party to fight and to stick together. Joining us now from los angeles is former advisor to president george w bush, ron christie. Thanks forjoining us, as always. As i understand that, 13 of the 14 lawmakers to storm back to room our own committees that have access to some of the depositions which they claim are not available, so does this mean this was all something of a political stunt . Good afternoon. What i think the political stunt that we are seeing here is the fact that we are seeing here is the fact that we are trying to impeach a president of the United States and doing so out of the public eye. I was a counsel forjohn kasich in the la st was a counsel forjohn kasich in the last president ial impeachment back in 1998 last president ial impeachment back in1998 in the last president ial impeachment back in 1998 in the minority were given rights, rights to call witnesses and depose witnesses, and in this instance it is all been done in secret so so much is being made of the republicans and they didnt storm the building but walked into the room. The notion of the minority in the house of representatives has certain rights and those rights, many believe, are not being taken account of. Correct me if im wrong, my understanding of the impeachment process is that this is the investigation stage where it is normal in some ways for these proceedings to take place behind closed doors. Once the house files these articles of impeachment then you start to get that due process that transparency that republican lawmakers are seeking. Not exactly. Whats happening here is article one section two of the United States constitution says the house of representatives sell and initiate impeachment proceedings. The house of representatives hasnt voted on this and as we saw back in 1998 and in the 1970s, actually the impeachment process allows the individual president of the United States, in this case, to have witnesses called and have their counsel present and have the republicans and the democrats to call witnesses. The Impeachment Vote itself, the vote as the 218 threshold needed to move it to the senate for a trial but you cant do all this in private. This has to be donein all this in private. This has to be done in public. The senate is where you see the trial and where you see a lot more of the proceedings. But you will know that a lot of people in america are accusing the republicans of hypocrisy. You just says you cant do it in private. Have a listen to Donald Trumps counsel on the impeachment process, who sat in congress and oversaw the benghazi investigations. This is what he says about private investigations. We all see the bickering among the members of congress on private interviews. You dont see any of that. I canjust tell you in the private interviews there is never any of what you saw thursday. It is one hour on the republican side, one hour on the democrat side. You do it in private you dont get the grandstanding for the television, you get better evidence. It even then, here is the difference. It is one thing to have an investigation which any Oversight Committee and the house of representatives of the senate can do, but you dont try to remove an elected president of states in private. That is the difference. You can investigate anything but you dont remove a president elected by 63 million american citizens who put him in office. We can have other agreements and disagreements with the president but when youre talking about something as grave as removing the president from office, i think all the American People and all those around the world deserve to hear what the evidence is to decide for themselves whether they believe, the American People believe, the American People believe, that the president has committed impeachable offences. Very briefly, we talked about process, we havent talked about any of the issues. Yes isnt that something . This is the true travesty of all this. We should really be talking about health care and education and instead we are talking about a very political process and something that is really dividing america at our fabric right now and something missing from the process. As always, thank you so much. Where do you go for the greatest sporting upsets of all time. Leicester city winning the premier league, of course, boris becker winning wimbledon, Buster Douglas knocking out mike tyson. Well, we could be about to witness something on that kind of scale in world series baseball. This the Washington Nationals have taken a 2 0 lead. Wiping the floor last night with the overwhelming favourites the houston astros, which leaves them just two wins away from the most extraordinary achievement. The nationals romped home last night 12 3. Its their eighth straight post season win. And to put all that into some context it is the first time in 86 years a Washington Team had made the world series. I think ithinki i think i have sprinkle a bit of magic dust on this team you will notice in these pictures i have got my heart. Fight on we are fighting alone, and by the way, just to make you more jealous i am going to games three. Excuse me, game for on saturday night. I amjealous. Ticket prices right now are through the roof. I know because i have been doing my history, the first time in 86 years a Washington Team has made it to the world series. The long gone senators made it in 1933. The only world series the old senators won was in 1924. This would break a 95 year duck. Dont jinx this would break a 95 year duck. Dontjinx us, that is very true. We havent been to the show since 1933 but i tell you what, i will bring you and michelle back some crackerjack in fact here is my Washington Nationals postseason sweatshirt. Were winning the world series go nats we have had heavy outbreaks of rain for some today and that is all cleaning out of the way but following in its place is much colder air arriving at the moment across the north west of the country. Notice that it should stay mild for another day or two for many of us. The weather picture tonight, we will see the colder air continue to feed and across Northern Ireland, scotla nd to feed and across Northern Ireland, scotland and northern england. A mixture of clear spells and showers but notice the showers will have a wintry tinge to them over the hills and a little bit of snow for a time. In the south it is relatively mild. Beck temperature contrast and we have a frost setting in place for northern areas, could lead to a few icy stretches particularly where we see overnight showers. The south are still relatively mild and the dividing line between the mild and cool air is less weather front which will be spreading and to bring wet weather our way through friday across parts of england and wales. Friday promises to be quite a windy day wherever you are an across the north and west of the country it will be a case of sunny spells in blustery showers. Further south outbreaks of rain turning steadily heavy through the day across wales, northern and Western Areas. The south east is dry and notices mild in the south, hla a eight celsius for edinburgh and belfast. The weather front once it has arrived mostly slow moving through friday night and into saturday, continuing to pump moisture into the hills so across the high ground in wales and the peaks across the high ground in wales and the pea ks in across the high ground in wales and the peaks in the pennines we will see large rainfall totals building up see large rainfall totals building up and that means we will see some localised Flooding Issues building and as we head into the first part of the weekend. Saturday itself, the weather front what is initially slow to move towards the south east of england but eventually turning wet. Further north for scotland, Northern Ireland and the north of england, sunny spells and blustery showers and through the afternoon might be five celsius at 4pm, still milder towards the south east of england, but by sunday as the clocks go back an extra hour in bed but it could be spent underneath a warm duvet because the chilly air will be feeding southwards, dry and sunny and sparkling skies for many of us but a few showers in the north and east, that is the weather. This is beyond 100 days, with me, Michelle Fleury in washington. Christian fraser is in london. Our top stories the british Prime Minister calls for mps to back an early general election on thursday december the 12th. Donald trump claims credit for a Syria Ceasefire and lifts sanctions on turkey. He says the us role in the region is over, but what does this mean for American Allies . Coming up in the next half hour police say the 39 people found dead in a lorry in essex were all chinese. Forensic teams are preparing to remove the bodies from the container. Plus, a whole new meaning to the word rat race. These little rodents have four wheels and theyre loving it. Well explain why. President trump says his unilateral decision to withdraw us troops from Northern Syria resulted in a great outcome. It will certainly be viewed that way in russia and turkey. Vladimir putin signed a deal with president erdogan yesterday to police the buffer zone which stretches 20 miles into Northern Syria. Under the terms of the deal, the syrian kurds Must Withdraw by saturday. Turkey will maintain the area in red set aside in the ceasefire, while russia and the Syrian Government will move into the purple areas to secure the rest. While President Trump was hailing the strategic genius of his decision, his us envoy james jeffrey, who hadnt been told of the decision, was not painting it in quite such glowing terms. The withdrawal he told congress had scrambled the entire northeast of the country, undercut efforts against isis and brought in the russians and syrians in a way that is really tragic for everyone involved. There are reports today from the kurds of ceasefire violations. And a concerned Cross Party Group of senators are now trying to get a fastracked visa for this man, general mazloum abdi, who leads the kurdish Led Syrian Democratic forces. Lets pick this up with robin wright, staff writer at the new yorker. Lets start with that ceasefire with turkey. Youve got the border there, as we just heard, a 20 turkey. Youve got the border there, as wejust heard, a 20 mile buffer zone which is going to be patrolled by russia and turkey. How does that work . One of the Big Questions is, how long does it work . Is this something that basically dismembered syria and keeps Russian Troops as a permanent force along the border with the turks . This is still a very uncertain environment, and it changes dramatically the balance of power across the middle east. Not just in syria. And i guess is you look at this going forward, clearly more work to be done in the region on this. What is the role in america . Because american exceptionalism, this idea that it would be the shining light on the hill, donald trump seems to be sending a different message on that. Describing it as blood in the sand. Yes, and he has basically dismissed the middle east. He wants to get out. He has quietly withdrawn 2000 troops from afghanistan. There is really the sense that this is the withdrawal of the United States from the middle east, a region that it had enormous influence on across the region, and it is ceding power, whether to turkey, iran, region, and it is ceding power, whetherto turkey, iran, russia region, and it is ceding power, whether to turkey, iran, russia or syria, both in the regional roles in the international roles. I understand you have interviewed the general. Is he keen to come to the general. Is he keen to come to the United States . I have talked to him two times in the last week, and he really appealed for the United States to continue to play some kind of role, some kind of security. Needless to say that, the kurds feel very exposed. If either the syrians, the russians or the turks are the ones patrolling their homeland, there is a deep concern about what happens next. And is president odo ands intention to flood the kurdish areas of syria with 2000 Syrian Refugees who are not kurds, who dont have homes there . President erdogan. There is not the infrastructure or base to absorb them, feed, clothe, house and educate them. And just take care of them in general. And so this is the beginning of what could be a very dramatic demographic, political, economic shift across a part of syria with repercussions across that whole region. We are hearing there has been a ceasefire breached today in the turkish part of that buffer zone. I mean, what does he want when he comes to the United States, this general . What can he hope to get . The president says this is a permanent ceasefire, he has dropped the sanctions and turkey. We know what the feelings of congress are, but it doesnt seem he will get very much when it comes to washington. Well, i think it is important for the Kurdish Community in general in syria and perhaps beyond to have the kind of recognition of the importance and legitimacy of their presence in their territory in the middle east, and i think he is asking forjust some basic recognition and support so that the kurds are not. Dont feel that they are facing ethnic cleansing, being forced from their own region, where they have been for centuries. It will be interesting to see whether he actually gets a visa. Remember, the why p g was in the us terrorism list, and when i asked him once in march, could he come to the United States, he said he would very much like to, but he did not think that legally he would be allowed a visa. Robin wright, staff writer at the new yorker, thanks very much for joining us. We did not even get to talk about what happens to those isis prisoners who have been guided by the kurds. Guarded by the kurds. Turning back to the uk now. The police have been granted an extra 24 hours to question the 25 year old lorry driver who was arrested yesterday after 39 people were found dead in a refrigerated trailer in essex. Investigators confirmed today that the eight women and 31 men were all chinese nationals, who are thought to have arrived in a lorry container that travelled on tuesday night from a belgium port. For more on this im joined by shalini patel, an immigration lawyer whos represented chinese trafficking victims in the past. Iimagine i imagine this all looks horribly familiar to you. Is it strange that of the 39, 31 of them were men . For me it is, yes. I dont generally deal with victims of trafficking who have come across in lorries in such large numbers. I usually deal with individuals who have come into situations where the traffickers have obtained a visa is for them on an individual basis, come on an aeroplane to the uk, generally, so this may is a shocking situation. But it is quite strange that there we re but it is quite strange that there were men and women on the lorry. |j made the point last night that there isa made the point last night that there is a very big difference between trafficking and smuggling. Obviously, trafficking is when you dont really have a choice in it, and the authorities prefer to characterise a lot of this is smuggling. They do. So they are coming here for a better life. But what is the true story . How does this unfold . What is the true story . How does this unfold . What i see a lot with my clients is that these individuals are trying to better their lives within china. They will take loans from loan sharks, which is quite commonly known, that there is a loan shark economy within china. In these women i represent come from very poor backgrounds, trying to better their lives. They take these loans out, keep taking these loans out, cant pay them back, so the loan sharks then say to them, we will ta ke sharks then say to them, we will take you to another country and you can pay the loan back at a much quicker pace, and you will then be able to come back, yourfamily quicker pace, and you will then be able to come back, your family will be safe, and they will be no threats towards you. They come here. At that point, they are smuggled, yes. They arrive in the uk, they end up in brothels, locked up for months, they end up in massage parlours. Some of them are in restaurants and nail bars, but more often than not, it is the sexual exploitation. That is when they become victims of trafficking. So they dont have a choice to go home. Sorry. I was just i wasjust going i was just going to say, what you are describing sounds like quite an organised process from the loan sharks, suggesting that they look to this opportunity, and in that kind of hole route to which they end up eventually, as you say, in some cases, nail salons or restaurants. Sorry, yes. It is definitely an organised gang, network, that target these Vulnerable Women in china, know that when they need the money, they provide them with the money, and know that they are never going to be able to pay it back. Can i just ask you, i am interested in the gangs as well. You talked about the loa n gangs as well. You talked about the loan sharks in china. The snake head gangs, do they control the whole route through europe, all the way to essex . Route through europe, all the way to essex . My fear is that there is probably a network of gangs that are working together, and what we have seen recently with the deaths of the 39 individuals in the lorries, these Gang Networks are actually spreading across europe. I know there have been concerns that this particular gang is working across belgium and Northern Ireland now. Oh, really . Yes, dont quote me on that, but there is something i read in one of there is something i read in one of the papers today. It is known that these chinese communal gangs do work like this and have done for centuries, that there will be a gang leader and then they will stem off and there will be different people, different branches. Fascinating. Thank you very much for coming in. It takes quite a while for a country to resolve the division, suspicion and torment left after a long, brutal period of fascist dictatorship. Today, spain took one big step on thatjourney. The remains of general franco, the fascist dictator who ruled the country for nearly four decades, have been exhumed from a vast mausoleum in madrid, and reburied. He came to power in the 1930s after a brutal civil war which claimed the lives of around half a million people. His reburial was a key pledge of the socialist government. His family tried unsuccessfully to prevent it in the courts. Allan little has been following the story. Today, modern spain very much disowning francos legacy. Not his relatives, though. They try to stop this exhumation in the courts and lost their final this exhumation in the courts and lost theirfinal appeal this exhumation in the courts and lost their final appeal last month. They made clear their enduring loyalty. But francos grandiose public resting place has come to symbolise something discordant in a modern democracy. The lion rising of a dictator. He was, untilthey lifted away today, the only one of 20th centurys fascist leaders to retain such posthumous acclaim. Even so, many here opposed this exhumation. No a representative of the Falange Party accused the government of rewriting history. But to the victims of francos dictatorship, his first public team was an offence glorifying fascism. It its immense basilica was hollowed out and solid rock by the labour of republican prisoners. One who survived the labour camps that help build it told me this play should now be allowed to fall quietly into dereliction. The building is a monument to the victory of a crusade. The ones from the civil war are still open, and i think the present of a monument like that is deepening into the new generation, the sense of division. Ina the sense of division. In a country still haunted by its past, this is a moment of painful symbolism. The dictator removed from his place in the public realm and given back to his family for a private reburial. No longer the object of officially sanctioned public veneration in spains democracy. Spains transition from fascist dictatorship to mature democracy has been remarkable. But spain are still divided on how to make sense of its fascist past. A civil war that ended 80 years ago is still being laid to rest. It is funny, christian, you see similar echoes of this over the battle over confederate statues and whether or not to pull them down here in america. Meanwhile. The family of harry dunn the teenager who died in a crash with a car owned by us citizen Anne Sacoolas say they will take legal action against the British Foreign office. Ms sacoolas claimed diplomatic immunity and left britain and is now in the United States. On tuesday, Northamptonshire Police chief said she would be interviewed under caution in america. Earlier this month, harrys mother and father went to the us to keep the pressure up on authorities on both sides, and while there were invited to the white house. They met the president but rejected what they called a bombshell offer from him to meet Anne Sacoolas in a nearby room. We can talk now to the familys lawyer radd seiger. He has been good enough to come into the studio. Let me just read the other statement that has just dropped from the fca. They said. As the foreign secretary set out in parliament, the individual involved, miss sacoolas, had diplomatic immunity whilst in the country under the Vienna Convention on diplomatic relations. What do you make of that . That is flatly disputed by our side. We have a serious disagreement with the Foreign Office on that point. We simply say that mr sacoolas was not a diplomat. We understand he is a technical officer, and as such, has no benefit of diplomatic immunity. So you are saying he didnt have diplomatic immunity, let alone her . Let alone her. Right. So lets trace this back. The fco get in touch with Northamptonshire Police and say, they cannot investigate this any further because she has diplomatic immunity. The technical term further because she has diplomatic immunity. The technicalterm is advised. So the Foreign Office advised. So the Foreign Office advised Northamptonshire Police that this lady, mrs sacoolas, had the benefit of diplomatic immunity. This action that we are taking, or that we are about to take, is effectively. Way say that that decision was unlawful, notjust wrong, but unlawful, and we will be bringing a judicial review against the Foreign Office to have that decision quashed. Because once that decision quashed. Because once that decision is made, the police then cant do anything. So thejudicial review cant do anything. So the judicial review you are talking about is designed to do what . To find out who knew what at what . To find out who knew what at what time, and how the information was exchanged in the lead up . Yes, so there was a process of disclosure, getting all the minutes, the notes, texts and e mails. All the notes, texts and e mails. All the documents then come out, so both sides get an opportunity to review that. It effectively, the objective is to ask the court to quash that decision. Ok. Earlier this week, dominic raab basically said that the uk had been given a heads up that ms sacoolas would be leaving the country. Does that feature at all into this lawsuit . Yes, absolutely. We simply say that she should not have left the country, and that she should come back. Its as simple as that. She has admitted culpability for her actions that night, and that makes her guilty of a very serious crime in this country, and we say that she is a fugitive on the run and should absolutely comeback. So you are not satisfied that she is going to be speaking to British Police in the United States . No. Our position with that is very simple. That is an inappropriate use of police time, spending your money and my money as taxpayers, travelling to the United States to interview her. We understand that the reason she gave was that she wants to show the world that she is devastated as well. Is it possible that the us embassy told the fco she had diplomatic immunity, and that theyjust told the fco she had diplomatic immunity, and that they just fell for it . That is the process. So it is the americans who are search diplomatic immunity. Then it is up to the fco to respond to that. What we havent had is full disclosure, but we dont know what happened. It is part of the process of a judicial review, who said what and when. And we would love to have anybody who was involved in the Decision Making process , was involved in the Decision Making process, whether before, during or after her departure, to come forward and speak to us. Itsjust bonkers. It is good of you to come in and explain that to us. Thank you very much. The life of a lab rat is probably quite mundane. No doubt some of you have your own views about how rats should be treated in a laboratory. But i cant imagine there are many that have been given their own wheels. And the freedom to go where they please. At the university of richmond, 17 rats have been given their own little plastic cars and have learnt how to drive them toward the cereal that is provided as reward. And what did they find . The rats in the fast lane feel more relaxed. Chilled out, driving rats take great satisfaction behind the wheel. They are good drivers and for us, there is a bonus to all this. The science it seems is helping with the development of non pharmaceutical treatments for mental illness. Researchers say the satisfaction from learning a new skill, in this case driving, can encourage a change in neurochemistry. And seemingly it does so for rats as well. Maybe that is because there is no traffic i dont know about you, but driving around dc. Yes, they are not commuter rats it doesnt feel relaxed at all i would like to see that on my tube in the morning see how they like that this is beyond 100 days. Still to come the sad tale of two liverpool fans who missed the Champions League match by heading to the wrong city. A british man who fought against Islamic State has become the first person in the uk to be convicted of a terrorism offence following a retrial. 28 year old aidan james denied all terrorism offences and was cleared of one charge of attending a terrorist Training Camp in syria. But he was found guilty of being in a camp in iraq where terrorist training was being carried out by banned kurdish group, the pkk. June kelly reports. Aidan james set up aidanjames set up to syria in 2017. While hundreds of foreign uk fighters headed to the middle east tojoin so called fighters headed to the middle east to join so called Islamic State forces, he was one of a much smaller band of britons on the other side. He attended Training Camps run by two kurdish groups opposed to i asked. Prosecutors said terrorist training was being carried out at both camps, and just by being there, aidan james was breaking both camps, and just by being there, aidanjames was breaking uk law. He eventually joined the front aidanjames was breaking uk law. He eventuallyjoined the front line with the kurdish group, the y pg, an ally of the west. The kurdish people. This man, who uses the pseudonym macer gifford, was one of the other britons involved in the fight against ijaz. He met aidanjames. Britons involved in the fight against ijaz. He met aidanjameslj think aidan was caught up in something much bigger than himself, really. He was motivated by compassion. He wanted to go out and put himself between the Islamic State, that was butchering the yaz ed people, and the rest of syria. Last time he stood trial, the jury could not reach a verdict. In the first trial, thejudge, mrjustice edith, instructed thejury first trial, thejudge, mrjustice edith, instructed the jury to clear aidan james of the edith, instructed the jury to clear aidanjames of the main terrorism charge he was facing. And before the trial, thejudge questioned charge he was facing. And before the trial, the judge questioned why he was being prosecuted when there hadnt been prosecutions and other similar cases. Today, aidan james wept similar cases. Today, aidanjames wept as the jury convicted him of one charge. In a note, they said they were sympathetic towards his motives. He will be sentenced next month. We just want to bring you some news on our top story. Of course, this is the Prime Minister laying down the offer of an election on december the 12th, and we were telling you earlier that for the two thirds vote in parliament for that to go through, they would need labour votes. Labour is setting out its official position tonight. They are saying they will abstain on that vote on monday, but labour mps will be free to vote no if they want. So the labour party is not going to whip its mps to vote in favour of the motion, which i think would mean that it probably would not go through, because it needs a two thirds majority. I am being told it would not, no, because being a two thirds majority, it would need 434 mps, and that would be impossible withoutJeremy Corbyn whipping in favour of an election. So this is what Boris Johnson favour of an election. So this is what borisjohnson makes of that, and where he goes from there, we will see. Lets look at the other news of the day. A court in bangladesh has sentenced 16 people to death over the murder of a student who was set on fire after accusing a teacher of sexual harrassment. 19 year old Nusrat Jahan Rafi was killed in april after refusing to withdraw the complaint. Among those convicted was the headmaster, who police say ordered the killing from prison, after being arrested over the complaint. Its the second day of a general strike in chile thats prompted mass marches against austerity and inequality through santiago and other cities. An apology and promises of Economic Reforms from president Sebastian Pinera have so far failed to quell public anger. At least 18 people have been killed and more than 6,000 have been detained. Researchers have found that people with Long Term Health conditions, such as arthritis, are more likely to suffer pain when its humid or windy. Scientists at the university of manchester used a Smartphone App to track the pain experienced by more than 2,500 people across the uk, while also mapping the local weather conditions. Coldplay have revealed the tracks to their new album with classified ads in a number of local papers. Everyday life by coldplay is their first album in four years, and the ads appeared in areas where the band members grew up, including exeter, north wales and southampton. They first announced the album on monday in a type written letter to a fan. I guess you always have to come up with new ways to drop an album for football fans, an away game in the Champions League is about as good it gets. The excitment of plotting your journey to a european city, the camaradarie of the travelling faithful, and if you are liverpool, the bragging rights of being the reigning european champions. So spare a thought for two unlucky liverpool fans who travelled to belgium on wedneday night to see their beloved side play genk. Only to discover half an hour before kick off they were in fact in the city of ghent, 100 miles away. They missed liverpools 4 1 win over the belgian champions and had to settle for watching it in a bar. And they will be going back to ghent, as the Football Team there has given them vip tickets to a match injanuary against genk. They will be given vip tickets to that game, which is very good news i have got lost in that one have you ever had anything similar to that happen to you . Yes, yes i have, i have to confess. How did yes, yes i have, i have to confess. How did i know you would say yes . when i was 17, i went with a group of mates to watch my beloved burnley player in the second round of the fa cup against nottingham forest. We went for a point somewhere near the ground, and then we got lost, and i was driving, and we didnt know the weight of the city ground, so we followed the signs to the forest, which did not lead us to the city ground. Do we have a picture of the capital city ground . It ground. Do we have a picture of the capital city ground . It didnt lead us capital city ground . It didnt lead us there. It actually led us. To a shady forest. There is the forest, but this is where we ended up. Sherwood forest. There you go. Eventually where legends grow so there you have it. Hello there. We have had heavier outbreaks of rain today. Following in its place, much colder air arriving to the north and west of the country. It should stay mild for another day or two to for many of us in the south. The weather picture tonight, cold air continues to feed and across Northern Ireland, scotla nd and across Northern Ireland, scotland and northern england. Also, we will see a mixture of clear spells and showers, but notice, the showers will have a wintry change over the hills in scotland. We could see a bit of snow here for a time. In the south, relatively mild. So a big temperature contrast. We have got frustrating setting in place across northern areas, which could lead to a few icy stretches, particularly where we see overnight showers. In the south, still relatively mild. Temperatures holding up at around 10 12d for most of us. The dividing line between the cold and cool air is this where the front here, which should and brings in wet weather on friday across parts of england and wales as well. Friday promises to be quite a windy day wherever you are. Across the north and west of the country, it will be a case of sunny spells in blustery showers, further south, outbreaks of rain turning steady and heavy through the day across wales, northern and Western Areas of england, south east stays dry, notice it is mild and the south, 16 in both cardiff and london, but a chilly eight for edinburgh and for belfast. Once this where the front arrives, it was a slow moving throughout friday night and into saturday, continuing to pump that moisture into the hills, so the high ground in wales, the peaks in the pennines in england, will see some large rainfall totals, and that means we could see some localised Flooding Issues into the first part of the weekend. Saturday itself, our weather front where there is initially. Slow to move its way towards the south east of england, but eventually it turns wet. Further risk for scotland, Northern Ireland and the north east of england, more blustery showers, and the cold are continuing to make inroads, and through the afternoon, it might only be5 through the afternoon, it might only be 5 degrees in both whole in newcastle. Still something milder towards the south east of england, but by sunday, as the clocks go back, you get an extra hour in bed, but it could be spent on the need to warm duvet, because chilly air will be moving southwards. Dry, sparkling, sunny skies and most of us, if you showers around coastal areas in the north and east. That is your weather. This is bbc news. Im ben brown. The headlines at 8pm. Borisjohnson issues an ultimatum to Parliament Saying it can have more time to debate brexit if it agrees to a general election on 12 december. Its time, frankly, that the opposition summed up the nerve to submit themselves to thejudgement of our collective boss which is the people of the uk. Ive been calling for an election ever since the last one because this country needs one in order to deal with all the social injustices. But no deal must be taken off the table. Police say the 39 people found dead in a refrigerated lorry in essex were all chinese. Forensic teams are preparing to remove the bodies from the container.
