The reason they were meeting was to kick start Legal Processes required to ratify the deal on the eu side. There are some little bits of information and documents that have to be signed and then passing the deal over to the European Parliament to in an ideal world, approve it in strasbourg later this week. There was a very brief update from Michel Barnier as well. He was very much on the lines that the shenanigans in Parliament Yesterday amounted to a delay in approval of the brexit deal. In the eus eyes, a delay is better than a rejection, even it is not as good as approval. In terms of the extension from the uk, the fact that Boris Johnson sent multiple letters doesnt really matter here. As far as they are concerned, a request for as they are concerned, a request for a delay is a request for a delay. Donald tusk is now consulting with other eu leaders which buys the eu time to sit back and watch what happens in padma before they have to commit to anything before they could formally have to discuss anything. Borisjohnson said he would rather be dead in a ditch then ask for a delay. He said this had a letter saying it was all a bad idea. Also insisting that he thought the uk can still leave the European Union by the end of october and that is something that government ministers are saying this morning. Michael gove has been saying that the uk will still be living on the 31st of october. As will the foreign secretary dominic raab who said he feels it is still possible. We do expect the government to start this process bringing forward the necessary legislation because a government doesnt need to just win a meaningful bow, it needs to pass all of this stuff into law. However, it could prove to be a quite common gated process because the likelihood is that amendments will be thrown at this legislation and that is something the shadow brexit secretary keir starmer made very clear this morning. We have been arguing fora clear this morning. We have been arguing for a Customs Union with the eu or Single Market alignment. There are other amendments that are really important because there is a trap doorto important because there is a trap door to no deal at the end of 2020 that we need to deal with and close. We can do that in the legislation and of course we need an amendment to say that whatever deal gets through, it should be subject to a referendum where that deal is put to the public stop and they are asked, do you want to leave on these terms or would you rather remain in the eu. Key rest on making it clear that he expects to see, as part of these amendments, the chance of trying to bring forward another referendum. Attaching a referendum to Boris Johnsons deal. That is quite significant. When he was pressed as to whether this had come from the front bench of labour or the backbenches, but that will be something to watch out for this week. My view is we need an orderly exit and if you are going to achieve that end if the government isnt willing to do it on its own you have to allow yourself delay ally yourself with people with differing views. Volleys of tear gas were fired, as thousands of protesters staged an illegal march through the kowloon district. This weekend marks the twentieth week since the protests began. Chinese officials and the state news media have denounced the protests as a separatist movement. Our correspondent nick beake is there for us. Give us a picture of what has been going on. We saw you earlier on with your mask and because of the tear gas. There is be more violence. Their house. At this particular spot the police are trying to reclaim the streets but they have got their work cut out. You can see the flashing light from their vehicles. Hundreds of Police Officers on the street, riot officers. Relatively calm here. It wasnt a few minutes ago. We are hearing another part of hong kong, there are still barricades and tear gas in the kowloon district. A little earlier we saw petrol bombs being thrown at one Police Station in particular and then the hard core of the protesters move their way up one particular row to another Police Station where they were met with tear gas and also resort the water cannon make its way through the streets of hong kong. It was firing a blue liquid. I think they are telling us to move back. I wonder if they are coming through once again. I think the police have got another few hours of work still to do. Just put all of this into a bit of context for us. These demonstrations have been going on for weeks and weeks. At the moment the chinese, some would say, are showing some. They are not showing any signs of interfering directly on this but how much longer can this go on . Are the protesters getting any closer to fulfilling their demands . What is a reaction of the hong kong authorities . If you speak to the protesters on the streets, they say they will keep on going. And they say they will not win this battle but they have to keep on fighting. They say, this is our future. But they have to keep on fighting. They say, this is ourfuture. The chinese still have the option of sending in Paramilitary Police or soldiers across the border. So far they havent done that. They have lifted to these officers from hong kong police. But we had really Strong Language from the president of china saying that they will be crushed if people try to bones will be crushed if people try to break up china. He didnt mention hong kong in particular but it is pretty clear that is what he was talking about. There are more announcements on the loudspeaker. The protesters have melted away but it is pretty clear they are going to regroup and they will come once again. This is the dynamics on the ground. The politics of this is really complicated and there is no end in sight. The beleaguered chief executive, the woman in charge, hong kongs leader, chi tried to give her vision of the future here this week. It was met with a pillar response from protesters. She talked about housing. She said that government would help people get on the property letter. It is extremely expensive to rent here. Most protesters said, yes, we know that any protesters said, yes, we know that a ny lots protesters said, yes, we know that any lots of big city it is very expensive to get decent housing or any housing but they are really talking about democracy. They want more democratic freedoms and they ta ke more democratic freedoms and they take china are trampling on the freedoms they have been promised. Three people have been killed in a fire in the capital of chile, as violent protests continued for a second night. A curfew has been imposed in parts of santiago after demonstrations began in response to a planned rise in metro fares. Protests have since spread to other cities despite president ial promises to suspend the move. The military was brought onto the streets of the capital to help Police Control the protests. Police are investigating a double murder in milton keynes, where two teenage boys were stabbed early this morning. Our news correspondent andy moore can tell us more. What are the play saying . We have got limited information. Itjust comes from a Police Press Release from Thames Valley police. They say they were called just before midnight to report a stabbing at a property in milton keynes. When they got there they found 117 year old boy who was already dead. Another 17 year old boy was taken to hospital but died later of his injuries. Two other adult men were taken to hospital with what police say are serious but not life threatening injuries. The next of kin of the two boys have been informed. No arrests have been made yet. We have got a brief statement from the head of crime who said Thames Valley police is in the early stages of a double Murder Investigation after two teenage boys have tragically died in a shocking incident. The area is cordoned off. They are appealing for any information. We dont know what was happening at this property last night. We dont know what the possible motivation may have been.
