In principle, a good idea to reintroduce these inspections . Yes, i think it is. It is something that 0fsted has been asking for for some time. They are very concerned that when you have schools that havent had an inspector and then for more than a decade, there could not be problems in those schools. And pa rents problems in those schools. And parents dont have the correct information. Inspections will always be controversial. They dont often give the full account of what a school can offer. Having somebody go infora school can offer. Having somebody go in for a couple of days, that is not an amazing system. 0fsted have spent an amazing system. 0fsted have spent a lot of time and effort changing the methods by which these inspectors are looking at schools. You have to decide if something is better than nothing. We spent a lot of money on education every year and the government are trying to make sure that every parent can be assured that their scholars of a good quality. Why was it decided that these guns could be exempt in the first place . It happened in 2011, michael gove was education secretary. He said it was about rewarding leaders who were outstanding. At that time we were looking down the barrel of austerity. Every department needed to make outs. Partly, it was about budgets. It meant that each year 0fsted didnt have to go back to theirfull 0fsted didnt have to go back to their full to several thousand schools. Head teachers are worried that some funding could be siphoned off to pay for these inspections. We havent heard yet if 0fsted will get more money to do this. It is possible that some of the budget coming infor possible that some of the budget coming in for education could go towards that. The government have been clear in their announcement is that they want to see more cash going to schools. A couple of reactions from reviewers this morning. And these days we would all wa nt morning. And these days we would all want our children to go joint standing schools. School inspections are anxious times. The statistics seem to speak for themselves here. But there should be a level Playing Field when it comes to inspections. Natalie says i think it is a good idea, things move on. Having an outstanding status for geelong could encourage complacency. I dont know, that schools could be sitting on this outstanding status for a long time, could be complacent. this outstanding status for a long time, could be complacent. I think we do have some evidence for that. A survey im involved in find that the teacher and outstanding schools, around one in four of them say they think their school has the wrong grades. We are also seeing 0fsted going back in and looking at these outstanding schools. Last year, twice as many of the outstanding schools that they went back into lost their rating. It is not necessarily complacency, but those rates no longer stand. They are also talking about new Specialist Academy trusts being set up to turnaround the most challenging schools. This will be specifically in the north of england. Havent we heard this somewhere before . Thats right, a few years ago the government gave cash to schools that recalled northern hubs. They were Academy Trusts that existed and were given cash to take over challenging schools that nobody else wanted to ta ke schools that nobody else wanted to take on. Unfortunately, and at these two of those cases we have seen a no go particularly well and those Academy Trusts are no longer looking after schools. It is slightly strange that they are doing this again, that they build new Academy Trusts to take over those schools. I think the government are thinking, when we have stuck schools, we have to do something, this is something, may it didnt work last time, but lets try it once more. It would be the way for a hostile power to disable your defences by taking out the satellite because you mention star wars, that was about shooting down missiles, i dont know if donald trump has ideas of shooting down these but if you can put stuff in space you need to protect it. Absolutely and this year we have been seeing Cyber Attacks on military satellites and these are things we should be worried about, people hacking in and generating fa ke people hacking in and generating fake gps data, that would affect our planes and navigation systems. Who decides where your satellite can go, how you navigate with other countries because there are no clear boundaries. Space is large enough that at the moment there is not that much crashing or collisions, but also many countries have signed what we call the outer space treaty which says that no one can own any part of space and it should be explored for peaceful purposes. There is a lot of debris out there as well. There is, and that the European Space agency we have a Space Debris Office to monitor these big chunks of metal floating around in case any chunk flies into our space telescopes for our International Space station, they can do manoeuvres to avoid the biggest chunks. When you say you track them, can you put a number on how many are up there . Its so, so many, it would be millions because there are big chunks but also particles and these are equally as dangerous because they are travelling at such high speeds, they can do serious damage. There is a fair degree of cooperation especially around the International Space station, can we look positively at that as a model for how Different Countries might cooperate . I think so because space is very expensive and no country alone can do what we have done with the International Space station, it was a group effort, the European Space agency, japanese and americans and if they were to go it alone they would have had to reduce that to a much smaller scale so we do benefit from working together. We stayed in london through the blitz and then we went to, i think, north devon then, and my mum took seven children because the youngest was a baby in arms, so we were all separated. We took condensed milk, a big bar of cadburys chocolate but im afraid that got eaten before we got to paddington station so we got to the village and then youre in front of all these people standing there, you get picked out like prize cattle. Really did. The good looking ones, in the end, and this other boy from paddington who ive never seen sense, we was the last two. I remember the children being very nasty to us, calling us bomb dodgers and go back to where you live and all that. Later on every evacuee wants to run away. I had a mate, a fellow i knew up at the recreation club, he run away three times. The police took him back. And a word of advice for younger generations. Not to take everything for granted because you never know if war breaks out and the next one would be. God knows, you know. But i always tell people, id never die on a monday. Its pension day. How important was he to you as you are embarking on this journey . He was given to me by my dad so ease always been important. I had him when i was very small and we we re had him when i was very small and we were being evacuated and ted had to come. You were evacuated twice, once in the initial movement of children and families and at that stage it was with your milder and sister. Mother. There was a mother and baby scheme, small children and babies could be evacuated together so i went with my mother and sister. My father was away in the navy, he had been called back on reserve, he was in the submarines. Looking back at some of the pictures, seeing the faces of these children, you think they were so small, you had no idea what was going on, how old were you and how much did you understand . was seven and it was difficult, i wasnt sure what war meant, i knew it meant fighting but we were told its a great adventure and it will all be over by christmas, which it wasnt. Its worth showing our viewers a couple of other things. This wasnt your nametag, this was your husbands. Yes and the name was spelt wrongly so his mother told the people in the school and they rewrote the label that he wore but she kept that one and we found it many years later. Very claustrophobic. You were evacuated a second time when the situation in london became more risky, and from what we heard on the film we played, a number of children tried to run away, not a replacement was happy but you did form a bond with your family in wales. We went to bridgend in wales, i stayed with the Phillips Family and im still in touch with them although we havent spoken recently. What was your life like they are, how different from london . Very different, there were fields to run and play in, wejust used to run free and have fun in the fields and down by the river and it wasnt very far from the seaside although we werent allowed to go on the beach, and i had a good evacuation. Some people didnt. I guess you heard stories of people who werent happy. I belong to the British Evacuees Association and we a lwa ys British Evacuees Association and we always wear our labels and when we have get togethers we hear some horrific stories. I imagine if you tried to do that now with children, the safeguarding processes in place. It wouldnt be allowed.
