Well show more of it through the course of the morning. The forecast, scotla nd course of the morning. The forecast, scotland and Northern Ireland, seoung joung 0h jallet stop england and wales, more thunderstorms to come this morning. Scotland and Northern Ireland. Ill have more details coming to you shortly. Its wednesday june 19th. Our top story. The race to be Prime Minister is gathering pace today after the five remaining candidates for the conservative leadership went head to head in a live bbc debate. Frontrunner Boris Johnson and his rivals clashed on brexit and there were disagreements over taxes as they answered questions from the public. But they did agree to launch an internal inquiry into islamaphobia, as our Political Correspondent iain watson reports. High stakes can lead to a hard battle. The frontrunner has made fewer media appearances than his competitors, but last night Boris Johnson was under the spotlight of scrutiny. Pressed by the bbcs emily maitlis, he didnt absolutely say he would take the uk out of the eu by the end of october deadline. Would take the uk out of the eu by the end of october deadlinelj would take the uk out of the eu by the end of october deadline. I think that october 31 is eminently feasible. No, its not a guarantee. And he issues beyond brexit. We previously said he would lie down in front of bulldozers to stop the heathrow expansion and that he has grave concerns. And his plans to ta ke he has grave concerns. And his plans to take more people out of the higher rate of tax didnt quite sound like a firm commitment. Higher rate of tax didnt quite sound like a firm commitmentlj sound like a firm commitment. think had very sensible to have an ambition to raise the butt an ambition. To raise the higher rate of tax. The battle for second place is fierce. Every candidate, apart from rory stewart, said he would be prepared to leave the eu without a deal. It is not going to be possible to negotiate a new deal with the European Union by october 31. In the end, we are in a room with a door and the door is called parliament. And im the only person here trying to find the key to the door. We have iuii to find the key to the door. We have run into the door three times already, rory. Weve got to have a different route out. We cant simply represent the same cold porridge. Jeremy hunts approach was to admit past mistakes and to try to put them right. I think having been responsible for health and social that some of the cuts in social care did go too far. Sajid javid s got a personal victory, managing to get his competitors to sign up to an investigation into allegations of islamophobia in their party. Ill be all good guys . Shall we have an external examination into the party on islamophobia . Excellent. After the debate, michael gove proved that whatever his floors, lack of self confidence. His competitors would challenge that. As for rory stewart, he lost his tie during the debate, but had he also lost ground . Tonight you were a bit lacklustre, wont you . Youre right. Aided by net format really work for me. By tomorrow we will know the final two who will have to face the wider Party Membership in a final run. Borisjohnson will be there, still not clear who else willjoin him. Iain watson, bbc news. Our Political Correspondent nick eardley is in westminsterfor us. I expect many of our audience would have been watching it and you would have, too. What are your conclusions . You were there yesterday morning. There doesnt seem to be a clear winner. No. There was no knockout blow. Variousjobs on borisjohnson, an attempt to hold him to account over some of his policy objectives. A few of them as you saw in that package were quite pertinent, but im not sure there was anything that changes the race completely. Boris johnson was anything that changes the race completely. Borisjohnson is still miles and miles ahead of the others. The big race today is going to be for second place. Only 13 votes yesterday between the man who came fifth and the man who came second. So all to play for them. Im sure all the camps will see something in last nights debate they can take some heart from. The truth is, today is probably going to be hardest for rory stewart and sajid javid. Maybe rory stewart and sajid javid. Maybe rory stewart and sajid javid. Maybe rory stewart didnt quite reach some of the heights he has in recent days when he has been out with the selvie sticks speaking to the public. Im not sure he quite got over what you wa nt not sure he quite got over what you want a selvie. Sajid javid had that coup of getting everyone to agree to that investigation into islamophobia. Again, as he made enough break through to win the votes he needs this afternoon . Its another big high stakes day here. A lot of dogs will be going on this morning about who to keep in the race. Next, thank you very much. A woman in her 80s is in a serious condition after an accident involving a Police Motorbike which was part of a convoy escorting the duke and duchess of cambridge. Despite recent opinion polls placing him behind democrat opponent joe biden in the running for the white house, he told a packed florida arena that his first term had been a major success. In his head he learns every single movement, every single possible place kick and put his hands. There is one point where the only Thing Holding him on is the force of his feet and one thumb and then he has to replace that thumb with his other thumb. No ropes. No. Where does he sleep . He doesnt sleep. It sleeps ina campervan sleep . He doesnt sleep. It sleeps in a campervan at the bottom. One day he decides hes going to do it and he does it. For those of you who have watched did you know what im talking about. What it and we will chat about it. You have mentioned before. Eye might. You would have to say a captain settings from eoin morgan. Captain eoin morgan hit a record 17 sixes as england thrashed afghanistan by 150 runs in the cricket world cup at old trafford. Morgan helped hammer his side to a record world cup score for england of 397 for 6. Its make or break for scotland at the womens world cup tonight. They must beat argentina tonight to have a chance of making it out of the group stage. England playjapan, having already qualified for the next stage. The school dog will be with us this morning as well. She tends to roam around. She has free rain of the school. The plants certainly would have had a good drink last night because we did see some torrential, heavy thunderstorms moving steadily northwards. Some parts of the south east had between 20 and 30 millimetres of rainfall in just one hour. Some more than that. Accompanied by a lot of lightning. The met office still has out a yellow weather warning covering the area from yorkshire to dorset, all points east. This area is still at risk from some thunderstorms. The warnings out until nine p. M. You can see only satellite picture all the cloud has come up from iberia. It is humid, warm air, stable air. We have the bright light clouds that is where we had the thunderstorms unstable. For england and wales, starting on a humid note on the south east. Low cloud generally. Misty and murky conditions and the risk of those thunderstorms. In the west through the day, scotland and Northern Ireland, we have a mixture of sunshine and showers. The temperature range roughly 14 20 degrees. Heading on through the course of this evening, we lose the thundery rain from the south east corner and then for england and wales we will see clear spells for fewer showers for scotland and Northern Ireland there will be showers around. Temperature wise it will be a fresher night because the wind is starting to change to more ofa wind is starting to change to more of a westerly. Tomorrow will feel fresher, even though for some the temperatures will be higher. Tomorrow we could catch a showers almost anywhere. You are more likely to see them across western and northern scotland and Northern Ireland. Further south, drier northern scotland and Northern Ireland. Furthersouth, drier but the risk of showers. Heavy and thundery if you catch one. The top temperature tomorrow up to about 20 degrees. By the time we get to friday it will be the northern half of the country prone to seeing some of the country prone to seeing some of the country prone to seeing some of the showers. Further south, High Pressure starts to build in. Things more settled. And, again, temperature starting to slowly claim. We will be looking into the low 20s by then as our top temperatures. In case you are wondering about the weekend, looks like saturday and potentially sunday are going to be drier. We may see rain coming sunday, crossing through the course of the night. One of the most viewed stories on the bbc news website overnight, is the moment a young pilot surprised her grandparents by flying them on holiday to mallorca. 23 year old laura gibson, whos one of the youngest Airline Pilots in the country, greeted pat and ray as they boarded the flight at east midlands airport. Laura says they didnt recognise her at first, but that it was a special moment. She was fantastic. A number of people got in contact. She is amazing. I like people who take control in the studio. We were interviewing wally yesterday. She was saying, take those pictures off, ta ke was saying, take those pictures off, take them off. She was directing the programme. Very impressive. An amazing woman. Its what you do every day really. You want a bit lots of cricket but just because the headline writers have had a field day. Pictures of morgan all over the back pages. Its an incredible total. You can only beat what is in front of you. There isa beat what is in front of you. There is a bit ofa beat what is in front of you. There is a bit of a theme emerging with the papers. They absolutely love him. Captain fantastic. Have you got goals at home that sort of collect. A bronze bowl by family to hold tennis balls. Sold for £3 million. How posh do you have to be . A p pa re ntly how posh do you have to be . Apparently the family had owned the bolson since a relative boarded from china to germany. The first record in the 1960s, theyd offered it to a museum. It was a parcel guilt bronze sensor. Made in about 1700. It was intended for one of the emperors palaces. 3. 8 million you are a regular yoghurt eater. Eating yoghurt regularly could slash the risk of men getting cancer, researchers found. It says only men. Its not my survey. Those having at least two servings a week, your 19 less likely to have benign colonic tumourand less likely to have benign colonic tumour and regular eaters are 20 less likely to have tumours likely to become cancerous. This is a big study. The case here. A study of 88,000 subjects founds a couple of weekly servings cut the chance of dangerous growths which lead to bowel cancer. Is it nice sugary strawberry yoghurt or plain boring. Probiotic yoghurt. It is easily accessible, probiotic yoghurt. Youre on the right track. But i am not a man. Yoghurt. Youre on the right track. But i am nota man. Im yoghurt. Youre on the right track. But i am not a man. Im still going to carry on eating yoghurt. Would you like a double page spread of a woolly town . There has been a lot of new and going on. These ladies here, there have knitted the entire town they live in. Look at that. More than 1000 hours creating prominent buildings in thrapston including the town hall, the post office, the pharmacy, the butcher, the forest, florist, everything. Serious work went to do that. Very therapeutic. 21 minutes past six. So as weve just heard, in the last few hours donald trump has formally launched his re election campaign, promising to keep America Great. There were large crowds of supporters there to cheer him on, butjust how popular is mr trump more than two years into his presidency . Lets speak now to the political analyst eric ham, whojoins us from washington. In terms of popularity, where is President Trump . Unfortunately, hes not as popular as you would like to think that he is. Right now, his average Approval Rating is around 43 and that is pretty much where he has been throughout his presidency. However, moving into his re election campaign, is likely having an opponent, a candidate running against him will be far more popular than he is. Thats something hes got to try to change over the next year or so. Got to try to change over the next year or so. Talk us through the choice of florida. Its an interesting place for him to go. Its a surprise to see him choose together which is very much a swing state. Its a battleground state and i expected him to be in a battleground state. I expected we would see the president in a state like michigan, wisconsin or pennsylvania, one of the three states that Hillary Clinton lost in 2016, with polls showing the president is struggling. We thought he would be on one of those states to shore up his base. Florida right now is a state which is controlled by republicans c wanted to be on friendly republican territory and thatis friendly republican territory and that is what he got. Wide its easy tojudge president ial that is what he got. Wide its easy to judge president ial races with the benefit of hindsight that Hillary Clinton never had the Approval Rating at potentially some of his contenders are enjoying. Its absolutely right. Hillary clinton, for all the good deeds she had done, she was a very polarising digger and in fact, one of the reasons why donald trump was able to get elected was because her Approval Rating was just as bad as his so moving into 2020, its highly unlikely that any candidates running on the democratic side will be as polarising or have an Approval Rating is low as Hillary Clinton did in 2016. In terms of, often when we talk to you, its interesting to see how donald trump views how things are going on. Do you think that he genuinely, i suppose he wouldnt be going for it, if you didnt think he could become president again . Absolutely. He is an incumbent. He had advantages that those running against him simply will not have. There is the power of incumbency, the infrastructure, money that comes along with that and in 2016, not many people gave the president a chance of getting elected so now, moving forward, he is going to be a tough candidate. He can command attention. That is something we will expect to see from now until november 2020. Are we going to see some of the big issues, began . Immigration, the wall, coal, big industry. We saw some of that on display tonight. There was chanting, build the wall, build the wall. Illegal immigrants next week. We didnt hear much about the president going after some of his enemies but we went back to this refrain in much of what we saw from the president in 2016, we will see again in 2020. Im sure we will speak to plenty in the build up to the president ial race. Last years extreme weather was bad news forfarmers, so what impact will the recent cold, wet spell have . Seans at the royal Cheshire County show to find out. Ive just been putting ivejust been putting in ive just been putting in a shift. Were talking about the weather this morning. Notjust because of the rain all across england. Staying indoors because of the beast from the east. Then you have stuff like the east. Then you have stuff like the food, ended up being a lot more expensive, and that is playing into this year as well because we have the dry, hot summer it was really long and meant you couldnt grow as much grass as you wanted to. Incomes of farmers are down nearly 20 over the last year. Were going to have a look at what the knock on effect of this years weather might be in the last few weeks but aurora is just getting started. But you get a little bit of news, travel and whether wherever you are. Good morning from bbc london news, i sonja jessup. Boris johnson has been accused of plopping over his stance of the third runway at heathrow airport. The mp for uxbridge and south rye slippers previously claimed he would lie down in front of the bulldozers to prevent it. He said he would not say he would stop expansion if he became Prime Minister. I continue to have grave reservations about the heathrow ru nway reservations about the heathrow runway three, not just from. Are you going to get in front of the bulldozers . If we take a look at the roads, Traffic Building on the age of 13 heading into town through the gauze brook interchange in dagenham as an accident involving a loss on the a4 piccadilly, one lane is closed eastbound at the junction with whitehall street outside the japanese embassy. Now the weather with kate kinsella. Good morning. Weve had a rather warm and humid night. Some heavy showers and the risk of those continues to this morning. The risk of some thunderstorms as well. First off, they are coming up from the south, from the continent. You might get some rumbles of thunder in those heavier showers in this afternoon weather front in from the west could see some flashes of lightning in the heavier bursts of rain. Temperature is 20, 20 one celsius, still on the rather muggy side gradually, those showers clear overnight and with it, the cloud, replaced by a washer air. Slightly cooler, not as muggy, minimum between nine and 12 celsius. A bright start tomorrow morning. Sunny spells, still at risk of heavy showers. Less chance of a Lightning Strike we could see one or two through the afternoon. The temperature staying fairly similar. The risk of a shower, rather u nsettled the risk of a shower, rather unsettled but through the weekend, it looks like it should remain largely dry. Getting warm into the first part of next week. I cant believe they was thinking about this in the middle of the night, but i think you should have to do that live on and. We will give you some of the exercises. Yes, no . Are it is definitely no. Let us tell you about the main stories from bbc news. The race to be Prime Minister is gathering pace today after the five remaining candidates for the conservative leadership went head to head in a live bbc debate. Frontrunner Boris Johnson and his rivals clashed on taxes and social care but it was the question of how to deliver brexit that continued to dominate the agenda. None of us wants a no deal outcome. We have to resolve this and we have to resolve this quickly. The most important thing is to win for britain and that means getting out. One of the mistakes we made so far is by having the sort of flexible deadline. Lets get on with it, lets vote on it, lets get it done. A woman in her 80s is in a serious condition after an accident involving a Police Motorbike which was part of a convoy escorting the duke and duchess of cambridge. Prince william and kate were travelling from london to windsor when the woman was hurt on monday. The Police Watchdog, the independent office for police conduct, is now investigating. Kensington palace said the royal couple are deeply concerned and saddened, and have been in touch with the woman. Donald trump has launched his campaign to be re elected as president of the United States next year. Despite recent opinion polls placing him behind democrat opponent joe biden in the running for the white house, he told a packed florida arena that his first term had been a major success. For now i say, weve made America Great again, but how do you give up the number one call it theme, logo, statement in the history of politics for a new one . But theres a new one that really works and thats called keep America Great, right. German chancellor Angela Merkel has said she is fine, after she was seen trembling as she greeted ukraines president on a very hot day in berlin. Mrs merkel was visibly struggling in the midday sun, as temperatures in the german capital approached 30 degrees celsius. Mrs merkel said she was simply dehydrated. She had three glasses of water and she said she felt back to normal. Alcohol sales in scotland have fallen to their lowest level since records began to be collected in the early 1990s. The data shows scottish adults still bought more alcohol than people in england and wales, but the gap has narrowed. A minimum Price Per Unit of alcohol was introduced in may last year. Scotlands health secretary, jeane freeman, says its a promising sign that the policy may be having some impact. Have a look at this incredible picture from greenland this morning. It looks like a pack of dogs are walking on water. It really does. But it is actually melted sea ice brought on by temperatures are soaring well above their normal levels. Image was taken by a climate scientist at a Danish Meteorological Institute last week. That is phenomenal. But also worrying at the same time. To me it. It looked to me like they were walking in a puddle. It is a large one. Rather than walking on water. But anyway. I dont know, may be a see things differently. Good morning, sally. Good morning. Eoin morgan was walking on water yesterday. Doing all sorts of clever things. An incredible innings from him. Good morning america one. Good morning, everyone. Captain eoin morgan hit a world record 17 sixes as england beat afghanistan by 150 runs in the cricket world cup at old trafford. Andy swiss was there. Hed onlyjust hed only just recovered hed onlyjust recovered from a bad back, fair to say youd hardly have guessed it. As eoin morgan took the art of smashing cricket balls to new, dizzying heights. For englands it was the stuff of dreams, for afghanistan more a nightmare. Where ever they bolted, he whacked it. Bowled it. Talk about a captain settings, but reaching the century was just the start. The crowd almost losing count as morgan clubbed his way into sporting history. That his 17th six, a record in one Day International s. And although he eventually fell for 148 his teammates carried on. Englands total of 25 six is another record in a display of dazzling destruction. 398 was afg hanistans a display of dazzling destruction. 398 was afghanistans gargantuan target. Although they tried to match morgans heroics they fell well short. As england wrapped up an emphatic win. A victory, then, which ta kes emphatic win. A victory, then, which takes england to the top of the world cup table. And if they can bat like their captain world cup table. And if they can bat like theircaptain did world cup table. And if they can bat like their captain did here, then theyll take some beating. Andy swiss, bbc news, old trafford. Never, never have a ever thought i could play a knock like that. Im delighted that i have. I think coming in at the time where it was a 5050 coming in at the time where it was a 50 50 share with myself orjoss went in probably help but, because after a faced a few balls they had no choice, had to start taking risks because of him coming in next. And then after i got dropped it was a matter of keep going. Big day for scotland. Its make or break for scotland at the womens world cup tonight. They have to beat argentina to have any hope of reaching the knockout stages. And even with a win, scotland will still have to depend on other results to qualify for the last 16 as one of the best third placed sides. Head coach shelley kerr revealed sir Alex Ferguson had been in touch with the squad to wish them luck. He was very complimentary about the team, the determination, this gamma now, and for the team to finish so strongly in both games. And it is absolutely brilliant for myself, as absolutely brilliant for myself, as a manager, and for him to contact me, and also for the players, for him to pass on his best wishes, and he is going to be tuning into the game. It was brilliant. A great bit of support from an absolute legend. England have already qualified for the last 16, so theres less riding on their match against japan tonight. But england know a win or a draw will see them finish top of the group and that could effect who they play in the knockouts. Coming to this world cup, having beaten the likes of usa, france, germany now, we compete against them in every single game we play against the top teams, where no pushover, to think that shows now and we know weve got as good a chance as anyone to win any game that we come up against. Well, england are used to playing japan at world cups theyve met each other at the last three tournaments, but the lionesses have very difficult memories of the last one in canada four years ago, when poor Laura Bassett scored this own goal late on in the semi final. That eventually put japan through to face the usa in the final. England went onto finish third but there will be revenge on the mind of some of those players today. An own goal meant the mens england under 21s got off to a disappointing start at the european championships in italy. They lost their opening match 2 1 against france after conceding two goals in the final six minutes. An own goal in the 95th minute from crystal palaces aaron wan bissaka securing the win for france. It is terrible. Just devastating. Reigning Tour De France champion Geraint Thomas will be fit to defend his title after escaping with just cuts and bruises from a nasty crash in the tour de suisse. The team ineos rider was taken to hospital for checks after he fell on the fourth stage of the nine day race in the alps. His teammate chris froome has already been ruled out of the tour after a crash less than a week ago left him with a broken leg, hip and elbow. Out. On the opening day of royal ascot, blue point won the kings stand stakes for a second successive year. The five to two shot beat off strong competition from the favourite battaash. Ridden by jockey james doyle, blue point became only the 12th horse to win the race twice. We have chatted about this particular item a few times on this programme in the last year or so. It is not particularly spotty. It is an item of sport swear. It is a coat cardigan. He sold it for charity. That is what he wore almost all the time is Manchester City played their fantastic season last season. He has donated it. How much would you pay for it . Probably worth a bit anyway. A grand . 100 . £1000 for charity. I would not spent £1000. £6,000. I was at the fa cup final and he said, impromptu, iam at the fa cup final and he said, impromptu, i am going to auction this off. So he threw it to me and said there you go. Well, there you go. So dont have the exclusive in the first place. You are about a month late. Last with the news. Thank you very much. Thank you, you will see you later. Vaccines are one of our best defences against deadly and debilitating diseases, but some preventable illnesses, like measles, are making a resurgence. The biggest global study into attitudes on immunisation suggests that in some parts of the world, people still dont trust vaccinations. So why are people still worried . Charlie weller is from the Biomedical Research charity the wellcome trust, which carried out the study. Good morning to you. Thank you very much. What are you most surprised by in the study . Well, im not sure im surprised by anything in particular. I think what is really important is one of the findings that shows its reassuring that nine out of ten pa rents a re actually reassuring that nine out of ten parents are actually saying that their children are vaccinated. We need to hold onto that. That is good news. But if you look below that at specific countries and certain areas, that level does reduce and thats where there is concern. Ok, so, it seems to me that theres a about where you live, what country you live in and whether you trust vaccines. Yes. So the survey looked at 140 Different Countries and there we re at 140 Different Countries and there were differences between developing countries and developed countries. Across the globe. And whats interesting about this survey is it puts a Vaccine Confidence or trust in vaccines into the broader environment of trust in science and research to try and link Vaccine Confidence we trust in other systems and healthcare confidence we trust in other systems and healthca re providers. Confidence we trust in other systems and healthcare providers. What does the fact that some people are still not having their children vaccinated, what does that mean, how worrying is that . I think today we dont see some of the diseases such as polio and diptheria and measles is just starting to come back. And we therefore dont see the devastating effects of these diseases on people s lives and their health. And so we forget, maybe, about how effective vaccines are on the fact that vaccines are really a success story. And so. If this trend for people to be more hesitant around vaccines continues, we may see more of these vaccine preve nta ble we may see more of these vaccine preventable diseases coming back. With very real and dangerous consequences for people . Absolutely. If you look at measles, for example, we have heard a lot about measles over the last couple of years, and ifa over the last couple of years, and if a schoolchild were to get measles they get a fever, they would have a rash, they may have a week or so of school. But then they would recover. It is the very younger babies or the older adults who are much more vulnerable and would potentially fa re vulnerable and would potentially fare much worse, perhaps be hospitalised. And we know in 2018, in europe, 72 people died from measles. So this is serious. That hesitancy you talked about, is that being affected by social media and the anti vax movement which is out there on social media . the anti vax movement which is out there on social media . I think there are many contributing reasons why people hesitate always some people have lower confidence in vaccines. This could be cultural, it could be political, it could be religious. And i think the anti vax movement, what we need to think about is what information is out there for people to accesss in this day and age there are so many to accesss in this day and age there are so many sources to accesss in this day and age there are so many sources and ways in which people can access information so we need to make sure the information out there is accurate. Ok, charlie weller, from the wellcome trust, thank you. Thank you. Definitely some sort of yellow memo. It is strange. It is melania trump, my guess that, and carol kirkwood. The graphics have rubbed off without me. We have a met Office Yellow warning. Into the south eastern corner. We will see them as we go through the course of this morning. Not all of us course of this morning. Not all of us will catch one but if you do like last night, it could be torrential. For england and wales, a lot of low crowd around. Mist and fog. We are still at risk of those showers. For scotland, looking in a mixture of sunshine and showers. We lose the thundery activity from the south eastern to the north sea and then for england and wales, a few showers left. Some clear spells as well. For scotland and Northern Ireland, youre still going have some showers and there is the potential for them to be heavy and also under ebert we start to pull in also under ebert we start to pull in a westerly wind. Its not going to feel as humid as it does this morning. Tomorrow, a breezy day. We could catch a shower almost anywhere but they are more likely across the north and west of scotland and Northern Ireland. Further south, dried and its going to be today for example, temperatures up to about 20 because i feeling fresher than today. More comfortable. For friday, the northern half of the prone to showers and in the south, it looks like it will be drier as High Pressure starts to build from the south. Into the low 20s at best. The next couple of days, we cant rule out a shower. There will be fewer tomorrow and they will go through quickly in the breeze. And then, from the farmers guardian. Last year, reporting on what people had to cope with. Last year, it was very much about the dry weather. What you dont realise, what consumers dont realise is, the knock on effect that weather patterns have on the market. In the volatility in the price, this year within the beef trade, we are seeing prices at a 3 yellow which is a hangover from last year. Prices at a 3 yellow which is a hangoverfrom last year. Its prices at a 3 yellow which is a hangover from last year. Its that volatility, brexit is another layer to that. The currency fluctuations, its making life very difficult for the whole production and supply chain. We had all these leadership debates. How are you feeling now . October the 31st is the new day. The focus today, more showery somsook, to come across parts of england and wales. Sunshine for scotland and Northern Ireland. More details in 15 minutes. Good morning. Its wednesday june 19th. Our top story the race to be Prime Minister is gathering pace today after the five remaining candidates for the conservative leadership went head to head in a live bbc debate. Frontrunner Boris Johnson and his rivals clashed on brexit and there were disagreements over taxes as they answered questions from the public. But they did agree to launch an independent inquiry into islamophobia in the conservative party, as our Political Correspondent iain watson reports. I think that october 31 is eminently feasible. No, its not a guarantee. And he wobbled on issues beyond brexit. Hed previously said hed lie down in front of bulldozers to stop the heathrow expansion, now he simply has grave concerns. And his plans to take more people out of the higher rate of tax didnt quite sound like a firm commitment. I think it very sensible to have an ambition to raise the top. An ambition . The higher rate of tax. But borisjohnsons out in front. And the battle for second place is fierce. Every candidate, apart from rory stewart, said hed be prepared to leave the eu without a deal. It is not going to be possible to negotiate a new deal with the European Union by october 31. In the end, we are in a room with a door and the door is called parliament. And im the only person here trying to find the key to the door. But weve run into the door three times already, rory. Weve got to have a different route out. We cant simply re present the same cold porridge. Jeremy hunts approach was to admit past mistakes and to try to put them right. I think having been responsible for health and social that some of the cuts in social care did go too far. Sajid javid scored a personal victory, managing to get his competitors to sign up to an investigation into allegations of islamophobia in their party. You all good, guys . Shall we have an external examination into the conservative party on islamophobia . Absolutely. Then we all agree. Excellent. They agree. After the debate, michael gove proved that whatever his flaws, lack of self confidence wasnt one of them. No, i won the debate. His competitors would challenge that. As for rory stewart, he lost his tie during the debate, but had he also lost ground . Tonight you were a bit lacklustre, weret you . Youre right. I didnt find that format really worked for me. By tomorrow we will know the final two who will have to face the wider Party Membership in a run off. Borisjohnson will be there, but its still not clear who else willjoin him. Iain watson, bbc news. Let us know what you think about that. Let us get a reaction. In a moment, our reporter adam fleming will tell us how that debate went down in brussels, but first lets get the latest from our Political Correspondent nick eardley in westminster. Nicks, i suppose there was a lot of talk on social media last night and reflecting the papers this morning that there was a lot of argument, a lot of interrupting, what more did we learn, what did we get out of the debate . We saw some wobbles from the front runner, Boris Johnson, debate . We saw some wobbles from the front runner, borisjohnson, on things like guaranteeing the uk would be out of the European Union by the end of october. That is one of his big selling points. But there was a wriggle room at left on that. On heathrow as well, on his income tax policy, saying they were now an ambition and part of a broader package, rather than set in stone. That said, no knockout blow. Boris johnson, yes, there was some jabs, but no point did you think it was a game changer for the front runner. The other big question, the one to be answered some point over the next 24 hours in westminster, is who is going to be the man a challenging borisjohnson. We will get rid of one further candidate today and we saw all of them, the other four trying their hardest last night to cement their position as the person who could take on mrjohnson for the topjob. Really interesting in voting tory mps yesterday, 13 votes between second place and fifth place. As all to play for today. Between second place and fifth place. As all to play for today] good to talk to you. Thank you very much. It is all to play for. Lets speak to our europe reporter adam fleming now. Adam, what has the reaction been to the debate in brussels . Did they bother tuning and . Not a lot of people are watching the snow. Mainly because the eu has other things on their mind at the moment, for example a big summit tomorrow and friday where there are other things, not to do with brexit that have got to be sorted out. For the people they did admit to watching it, privately, behind the scenes, they said it was all stuff they had heard before or new stuff that wouldnt work. And the people that work on brexit here in brussels will have heard lots of things that they have heard lots of things that they have already rejected or are not in favour of. For example, a big renegotiation of the deal. They say thatis renegotiation of the deal. They say that is not available. For example, solving the Northern Irish border issue with Technology Rather than legal and political stuff, they say that wont work. And then this idea put forward by Boris Johnson that wont work. And then this idea put forward by borisjohnson that you could have a transition period where everything stays the same for a couple of years, even if you dont have a deal, the eu says that is not on offer either. And then looking at rory stewart, saying he would take the same approach as theresa may and just try to get this deal through parliament, they wonder, well, what will change in parliament that means he could do that where theresa may failed. Having talked about the summit we will probably get some brexit news on friday, but i think it will be the eu saying there is no chance to renegotiate the deal and they are still going to prepare for it all going wrong in october. Adam, thank you for the analysis. Let us know what you think about laszlos debate. We will try to get through some comments. People talking about this, you were saying to nick there. What did we learn . A lot of shouting and interrupting and squabbling. In a couple of minutes we will speak to some people from the conservative party. Because, of course, once we have had the mps peoples vote it will go out to the conservative party. They will be the ones who make the ultimate choice. We will speak to a borisjohnson supporter and a rory stewart support as well. There are about 160,000 members who will vote on those final two. It will be an interesting few weeks to see who will be the next leader of the conservatives and our next Prime Minister. Elsewhere this morning a woman in her 80s is in a serious condition after an accident involving a Police Motorbike which was part of a convoy escorting the duke and duchess of cambridge. Our reporter Jane Frances Kelly is in our london studio. We have had some pictures of the ambulance on the scene, what else do we know . The duke and duchess of cambridge were travelling from london to windsor commemorating the service for the order of the garter in st georges chapel with the queen. It is thought that a Police Motorcyclist travelled ahead to clear the traffic when the incident happened on the upper richmond road. A sun reporter captured the incident on camera. And as you can see, there is an ambulance at the scene. Kensington palace said that the royal couple didnt witness the incident. But they are said to be deeply concerned and saddened by what has happened. They have said that best wishes and flowers to the woman. She is in hospital in a serious but stable condition. An independent investigation has now been launched. Good to talk to you. Thank you very much. Alcohol sales in scotland have fallen to their lowest level since records began to be collected in the early 1990s. A ten Year Old Girl has become the youngest person in history to climb the iconic el capitan rock formation in Yosemite National park in the United States. Selah schneiter completed the climb with her dad mike and a family friend. Even looking at the pictures makes me feel dizzy. They took the so called nose route which took them five days selah said she hoped her achievement would inspire other girls to get active. I expect she probably will. What an amazing young lady. She will go on to achieve great things if she is doing that at ten. Amazing pictures. 12 minutes past seven. You are watching bbc breakfast. Lets return to our top story now, and tory mps will vote again later on who theyre backing to become party leader and Prime Minister following last nights live tv debate. It will fall to the partys 160,000 members though, to have the final say on who gets the biggestjob in the land. Lets take a look at what some of those watching in manchester had to say. I thinkjeremy hunt came out really, really well. I was pleasantly surprised. Earlier i was undecided, now my shortlist is down to three, betweenjeremy now my shortlist is down to three, between jeremy hunt, sajid javid, and michael gove. On tonights performance it is michael gove. Very impressive. Have to say im not boriss kraitor s van. Ive was theresa mays kraitor fan boriss kraitor s van. Ive was theresa mays kraitorfan but i boriss kraitor s van. Ive was theresa mays kraitor fan but i felt they stabbed her in the back. He is trying to move the goalposts, saying one thing and planning to do another. Same as some of the others. Instead of october the 31st having some extra time. Weve messed up. We cant have any more extra time. We have got to sort this out. Anyone at rory. Good stable of candidates. Really pleased. I will choose one. I am happy with any one of them. There you go. Lets talk now to kanwal toor, from the beaconsfield conservative association, who is backing borisjohnson, and mohammed amin, chair of the conservative muslim forum, who supports rory stewart. Good morning to you both. Thank you very much indeed forjoining us. I will ask you both the same question first of all. You first, kanwal, what did you learn from le saux, so much squabbling and talking over each other, what did you learn . According to me there was a lot of passion, which is absolutely perfect. But there are two things that would like to point out. First of all, the very interesting lineup. I think they candidates, in their own way, a very, very good. They are excellent. Each one has a lot to offer to the nation and the party. Im very impressed with that. And second, something kai was extremely pleased with is the fact that one of those five people sitting up there was sajid javid. So there are all these allegations of anti muslim and islamophobia in the conservative party, that should be put to rest. The conservative party is the party who is actually giving us the chance to have a muslim Prime Minister. Ifi if i could ask you the question, what did you learn last night . What i saw was rory stewart, the only candidate willing to tell people what they dont necessarily want to hear. I saw all the other candidates worried about rory stewart. Why theyre worried by him, you think . He is completely different from all of them. Hes been great engaging with people, facing hostile questioning in the east end of london, for example, and has one people over. He is completely different from the other candidates. Ijust want different from the other candidates. I just want to ask you about rory stewart. He wants to bring back theresa mays deal for a fourth time. He has said he will talk to mps and put it to them but at the same time, he has a plan b which is to organise a citizens jury as they did in ireland over controversial issues like abortion. This citizens jury issues like abortion. This citizens jury asa issues like abortion. This citizens jury as a way of detoxifying the brexit issue which is divided our country over the last three years. understand you are a supporter of borisjohnson but understand you are a supporter of Boris Johnson but you talked understand you are a supporter of borisjohnson but you talked about sajid javid. Why bring him up . I am supporting boris because i think is the man who is to win the election. Its important the conservative party is not wiped out and i do not wa nt party is not wiped out and i do not wantjeremy party is not wiped out and i do not want Jeremy Corbyn to party is not wiped out and i do not wantJeremy Corbyn to take the keys to number ten so that reason, im going to be supporting boris. But like i said previously, all the candidates have something to offer. Everyone talk of different policies, eve ryo ne everyone talk of different policies, everyone is unique in their own way. Sajid javid talked about his lumbar phobia which we need to deal with and the others had other things to speak about so i give respect to each one of them but i back boris because he could win elections for oz and that is very important. wa nt to oz and that is very important. want to talk about perceptions. Borisjohnson forgot want to talk about perceptions. Boris johnson forgot somebodys name. What do you think about that . That can happen to all of us. Does it matter . Say that again . I cant hear you properly. Borisjohnson forgetting somebodys name, does it matter . Not really. What matters is that we have to win these elections. What matters is that we are able to get out in a timely and orderly fashion. I think like the others, we believe he is malleable, he is going to ta ke believe he is malleable, he is going to take us out in a timely fashion and he is the one who should lead the party in the nation. Wide but at the party in the nation. Wide but at the same time he was asked specifically, they all were, about whether they could guarantee leaving on the 31st of october. He could not ordid on the 31st of october. He could not or did not answer that. He did say he is not going to guarantee that but weve got to have a firm date. You cannot negotiate with the eu if we do not have a firm date. That man is offering us a firm date which is going to be october of this year and i have a very strong feeling that he is the one who is going to work it out very well for us. If we can talk about it, there are very few people who will be able to get votes here. Rory stewart is far behind Boris Johnson at the moment. In fact, all of them are. Can he catch him, do you really think . I think you can catch the best evidence is the extent to which Boris Johnson and the other candidates are reluctant to engage with rory stewart. Last night, they were trying to attack him because they are worried about him. I dont really agree with that. Rory has a point but i also think is one of the least experienced candidates amongst all five of them. I personally feel its public not the right time for him to leave the country and the conservative party. I respect some of his views, not all of them but its not the right time. Thank you both very much forjoining us thank you both very much forjoining us this morning. There is another boat today. It carries on. Those two guests in the 160,000 in total, who is going to be the next Prime Minister. We have got a dog in the programme. People are still sending me pictures about their dogs puppies eyes. The plants would have had a good drink last night because we had heavy rain, torrential thunderstorms moving across and today, if you look at the forecast, the met office still has a yellow warning valid until nine oclock tonight for thunderstorms, anywhere from yorkshire to dorset and all points east as well. Not all of us will see them but if you do, you will know all about it. Some parts near eastbourne at as much as 1000 strikes of lightning. On the satellite picture, you can see where all this has come from. The brightest colours show whether thunderstorms were. Were still not to those thunderstorms but in the west, as they clear, it will brighten up with fewer showers. We are looking at a mixture of sunshine and showers. Feeling humid in the south east once again. Through this evening, we lose the thundery downpours, they clear up into the north sea, or england and wales, largely dry with clear spells but still some showers across Northern Ireland and scotland, some of which will be heavy and also thundery. Also a change in the wind direction so also a change in the wind direction so it will feel fresher. Especially in the south east. Tomorrow, we could catch a shower almost anywhere but were more likely to see them across northern and western scotland but it youre going to queens or royal ascot, do bear that in mind and it will be breezy tomorrow as well. Again, as a result, it will feel fresher even though temperatures will be 20 degrees. The northern half of the country is more than likely to see some of those showers. In the south, drier and brighter with a bit more sunshine and again, temperatures climbing up into the low 20s. That leads us into the weekend. Dry for many, a bit more sunshine and a bit warmer. Jess is wandered off, she is in the garden and is being petted by someone garden and is being petted by someone else. What we did you say she was she is a portuguese podengo. Ive never heard of a portuguese podengo before, it sounded like a dance, not a dog. Nearly half of all pregnant women are overweight or obese, according to official nhs figures, which can present Serious Health risks to both mother and baby, including a greater chance of miscarriage or still birth. For the past decade a special clinic has been working with women to help them have a healthy pregnancy. Our Health Correspondent Dominic Hughes has been to find out more. For meg, these are anxious times. She is 32 weeks into a long awaited big nancy and things have been complicated by Health Problems related to her weight. Its an issue she is with for most of her life. was on a calorie controlled diet from when i was 11 so weight has a lwa ys from when i was 11 so weight has always been an issue for me but this is the biggest ive been in the heaviest and obviously when i fell pregnant, i thought that i really needed to start watching what i was putting in my mouth and it wasnt just about me anymore, it was about both of us. Just check your blood pressure. The ba bys both of us. Just check your blood pressure. The babys heartbeat is normal. Carrying too much weight when you are pregnant can be risky for mother and baby, the greatest chance of high blood pressure, the list goes on but meg is attending a special clinic in edinburgh where women who are very special clinic in edinburgh where women who are very overweight can see a range of specialists all in one place, helping her to focus on whats important. I think its really about concentrating on the fa ct really about concentrating on the fact that you are carrying another person inside you. And really having to think about them rather than yourself. The edinburgh clinic is one of the first in the uk to bring in specialist doctors, midwives, nutritionists and other experts through what can be a tricky time in over the past decade, demand has soared and in scotland, nearly half of all pregnant women are overweight or obese. Levels of obesity are rising throughout developed countries and its complex while its happening, its diet, its exercise, its lifestyle but essentially, when a woman is pregnant, we all want the same thing and Women Deserve the same thing and Women Deserve the same care and attention as anybody else. And this is what success looks like. Giuliana is now 18 months old after mum nikki attended the edinburgh clinic. Now expecting another baby, nikkis advice to other women is simple. Listen to yourself and listen to your doctor is because youve got to tell yourself that theyve given you that advice for a reason so youve got to tell yourself that because you know you are going to get a beautiful bundle ofjoy you are going to get a beautiful bundle of joy at the you are going to get a beautiful bundle ofjoy at the end of it. Helping overweight mums have healthy babies requires specialist skills and is obesity levels rise, demand for those skills is set to grow. Dominic hughes, bbc news, edinburgh. I was just listening to thinking, jessica is going to be at half past eight this morning. Shes got two children and one of them, she had her first when children and one of them, she had herfirst when she children and one of them, she had her first when she was still fully trained up as an athlete and she won again after she had reggie in the second, olivia, she was a normal mum at that point so talking about exercise for pregnant women, post natal and general fitness. Weve had a rather warm and humid night. Weve had ome heavy showers and the risk of those continues through this morning with the risk of some thunderstorms as well. First off, they are coming up from the south, from the continent. You might get some rumbles of thunder in those heavier showers then this afternoon, a weather front in from the west could see some flashes of lightning in the heavier bursts of rain. Temperature today 20, 21 celsius, still on the rather muggy side but gradually, those showers clear overnight and with it, the cloud, and its replaced by some fresher air. Slightly cooler, not as muggy, minimum between 9 and 12 celsius. A bright start tomorrow morning. Some sunny spells were still at risk of heavy showers. Less chance of a Lightning Strike but we could see one or two through the afternoon. Temperatures staying fairly similar. Frontrunner Boris Johnson and his rivals clashed on taxes and social care but it was the question of how to deliver brexit that continued to dominate the agenda. None us wants a no deal outcome. We have to resolve this and we have to resolve this quickly. The most important thing is to win for britain and that means getting out. One of the mistakes weve made so far is by having this sort of flexible deadline. Lets get on with it, lets vote it through, lets get it done. But theres a new one that really works and thats called keep America Great. Right. From one world leader to another. German chancellor Angela Merkel has said she is fine, after she was seen trembling as she greeted ukraines president on a boiling day in berlin. In nearly the right order. I am saying the right notes, not necessarily in the right notes, not necessarily in the right notes, not necessarily in the right order. You are watching brea kfast. Coming up on the programme, carol will have the weather for you. Sally, welcome. It was a great day for eoin morgan. It was a record breaking day for england and their captain eoin morgan at the cricket world cup. They thrashed afghanistan by 150 runs, with morgan scoring a world record 17 sixes thats the most scored by one player in an International One day match. It meant he actually scored more than a century himselfjust in maximum scores. Morgan finished with 148 runs altogether from just 71 balls as england scored 397, afghanistan would get nowhere near that, and england now sit top of the pool stage. Morgan looking very happy despite the back trouble earlier on. Never have over thought that i could play a knock like that. I am delighted that i have. I thought coming in at the time where it was a 50 50 show whether it was myself orjoss went in probably help that. After a faced a straightfaced day pupils they had no choice, they had to start taking risks because of him coming in next faced a view balls. Risks because of him coming in next faced a view balls. It is crunch day for scotland at the womens world cup. He was very complimentary about the team, the determination, the stamina now, the togetherness for the team to finish so strongly in both games. And its absolutely brilliant for myself, as a manager, for him to contact me, and also for the players, for him to pass on his best wishes, and hes going to be tuning into the game. So its brilliant. A great bit of support from an absolute legend. England have already qualified for the last 16, so theres less riding on their match against japan tonight. But england know a win or a draw will see them finish top of the group and that could effect who they play in the knockouts. Coming to this world cup, having beaten the likes of usa, france, germany now, we compete against them in every single game we play against the top teams, were no pushover, i think that shows now and we know weve got as good a chance as anyone to win any game that we come up against. How did that happen . He looks really winded and a bit shocked there. But he is actually 0k. This next story. They believe you played a part in this, dan. He said iam going played a part in this, dan. He said i am going to auction this off and i said ok. This cardigan has been sold for charity. He worried loads of times last season. It was pretty cold. The grey woolly cardy was sported by the Manchester City manager at many grounds as his team went on to retain their league title. Well, now its been snapped up at a charity auction. Guardiola donated it to the clubs city in the community charity. It went for a cool £6,000. An awful lot of money for a cardigan, but not for a charity. Yes. Well done. I wonder what it is actually worth, that cardigan. £10. 50. Jemberjose actually worth, that cardigan. £10. 50. Jember Jose Mourinhos actually worth, that cardigan. £10. 50. JemberJose Mourinhos cote . He auctioned that off do you remember. It turns out he has several of them. Itjust so happens we have another one. Right. Not so special after all. Thank you. Lots of money raised for charity through that. Yes, i know. You are right. Lots of money race. Well done. Are you finished . Yes. Its almost a year since the world watched, and desperately hoped for the safe rescue of 12 thai schoolboys and their football coach, after they became trapped in a cave for more than two weeks. There were fears they could be scarred for years by their ordeal, but the psychiatrist who helped them says theyre all doing well. Lets get more now from dr teerakiat jareonsettasin. Thank you so much for coming on and talking to us this morning. How are they . Thank you. First of all, it is a real pleasure to be invited to give my discussion before, head of the presentation and the natural co ng ress the presentation and the natural congress of psychiatrists. Yes, next week, in the first week ofjuly national. They are doing really well, amazingly well. And since they came out of the caves, interviewed them six months on, twice. Basically, they showed no signs of mental Health Problems or disorders. If anything, their Mental Health actually is a lot better than before. Which is incredible, really, is that down to team spirit, the fa ct is that down to team spirit, the fact they knew each other . While the world was worrying about what they we re world was worrying about what they were going through, some of them we re were going through, some of them were seeing it as a bit of an adventure. I think there are two or three things, one is how they deal with stress. And if you look at the way they have what we would call immunity to adversity through stress, obviously the way they were bought up, by buddhism, by the philosophies of their parents and the schools brought them up, the tea m the schools brought them up, the team spirit, and so on. The other is how the professionals conceptualise Mental Health. The world was worried about them having ptsd, post Traumatic Stress disorder, but thatis post Traumatic Stress disorder, but that is from a third person perspective, so professionals. In the first person perspective, themselves, they dont think they actually are dealing with stresses. They went into the cave for fun. They went into the cave for fun. They were hopeful all the time. They we re they were hopeful all the time. They were hopeful even at day nine when they told me they heard the crowing of roosters outside. They were helping one another, using small rocks, to chip away the surface of the caves. In fact, they made for basically five foot from the surface of the caves. They were basically there together to help one another to get out. They didnt experience it as life threatening at all. To get out. They didnt experience it as lifethreatening at all. It is really interesting that. If you compare that to say the chilean miners from a few years ago, some of those individuals are really struggling, not only at the time but subsequently as well. Dont forget, that theyve grew up in the natural environment, the mountains. They went into the cave for exploration of the cave they were used to, as a team. And at no point in the trapping were they thinking that they were facing life threatening events. They were trying to solve the problems they thought they had at the time. And they were hoping that somebody from outside would come and rescue them, but they didnt think the whole world would put in an operation to rescue them. What did they make of the fact that the whole world was talking about them and worrying about them . They we re them and worrying about them . They were quite surprised. Because they didnt think they were that, sort of, important people. Again, it shows their outlook to life. And they were not focused so much on themselves individually. And they we re themselves individually. And they were quite pleased that the whole world was helping them. But at the time they were trying to help themselves first. Incredible. Thank you so much for telling us about your findings. You so much for telling us about yourfindings. It is quite remarkable. That sense of team spirit and the fact that they did not think what they were doing was abnormal. And even nine days and they were positive about the fact they were positive about the fact they thought they were going to get out. And the teamwork seems to have counted. Always important, part of a team. You are right. Carols got the weather now from a beautiful garden, which has been created by Award Winning team of pupils. We are trying to bring out the sunshine as well by wearing yellow. I dont think it has that much impact. Good morning. Sadly not. Jimmy is lucid, we havejust a special award. The rhs school Gardening Team of the year. Lets speak to a couple of our guests. Youre looking lovely in your floral outfits. Matthew, your head teacher here and alanna, you were one of the judges who work for the rhs. How important was it for you to win this award . You can see for yourself, the garden isjust award . You can see for yourself, the garden is just an amazing space to support the learning of the students. Its an amazing opportunity for us to celebrate the work theyve done. A lot of people took part in this. Really what were looking is teamwork. But something the students really showed. Although some of them face different challenges, coming together to produce this beautiful garden at the whole school can enjoy. Matthew, we do have flowers and vegetables. They plan what is to be planted. They monitor the growing over the seasons. We use the produce of stairs and a new cafe which is really exciting. Its very enterprising. And they make soup they sell to the teachers . Its been amazing, were part of their achievements. How many schools took part . A few hundred enter every year so part . A few hundred enter every year so its a difficult decision to make. Having a cafe that is being used, produce, assuring the community, its just amazing. Used, produce, assuring the community, itsjust amazing. Thats what we were looking for. The children must learn all about plants and vegetables, its a calming place to be. As well as learning about the garden, its about the life skills that we learn and hopefully functional skills to take into their adulthood. Its been a pleasure talking to you both, congratulations. The weather here in london is looking a bit ominous. The forecast is, once again, for some parts of england, thunderstorms. We saw a lot of the storms last night and parts of the south east. We had between 20 and 30 millimetres of rainfall injust one between 20 and 30 millimetres of rainfall in just one hour. Between 20 and 30 millimetres of rainfall injust one hour. For others, a bit more than that. The met office has a yellow weather warning output thunderstorms anywhere from yorkshire all the way down towards dorset and points east. If you do see it, it could be a humdinger. The satellite picture shows you where its come from. Warm, humid and stable that has swept up from iberia. Through this morning, we will hang onto that risk. Heavy, thundery downpours. It will pull a little bit further to the east. Across parts of wales and western parts of england but the scotla nd western parts of england but the scotland and Northern Ireland, a mixture of sunny spells and bright spells but also some showers. Temperatures today are going to range from 14 up to 20. A human start and the humidity will be with us as we go start and the humidity will be with us as we go through the course of the day. Through this evening, we see the back edge of the thunderstorms pull up into the north sea and overnight, looking at clear skies with fewer showers in england and wales but the showers persisting across scott and Northern Ireland. Not a cold night but the wind changes direction. It will feel fresher. That will lead us into a fresher. That will lead us into a fresher day tomorrow. Anywhere could catch a shower but more likely across northern and western scotland and Northern Ireland. It could be heavy and thundery. Top temperatures tomorrow, fresher, 20 degrees. By friday, its the northern half of the country that is prone to those showers. Writer sunny skies. Further south, likely to be drier and brighter with sunshine coming through as High Pressure starts to build. That leads us into a largely dry saturday and sunday but if you are heading to queens for the tennis we re are heading to queens for the tennis were indeed royal ascot, bring your brolly. There is a chance that you could have a heavy, thundery downpour. Lots of you may have been watching the conservative mps debating. So many people talking about it. Heat from the West Midlands says, i had to turn it off. I would not let them run a barfor me. Not impressed. There is stuff is jelly. Not one of them are passionate or patriotic. Quite a few people talked about being very adversarial. We find all of these debates very frustrating as we have no say in who runs our country but when another referendum is suggested, that is said to be undemocratic. Perhaps the countryside decide both of those issues. They found so far. Politics needs to change. Until the general election, club together as one. If you want to get in touch, you can get in touch on facebook and twitter. One of them will be the next Prime Minister in a few weeks time. There is another boat today. Incomes forfarmers fell incomes for farmers fell nearly 20 last year. Sean is at the royal Cheshire County show and he is being attacked by piglets. Good morning. As usual, when we come to these cou nty as usual, when we come to these county shows, have got to find these piglets. Were this morning about how farmers manage, looking after these animals, the feed to the mother went up in price last year. Because of because of all the bad weather we had. The beginning of the year, the beast from the east, cold spring, later than usual and then of course, we had the baking hot summer. Remember, they were great . Farmers incomes were down. You will have been covering all these different kinds of angles. Sheep ready to be shared. Why they will keenly looking. In terms of the sheep industry last year, how did farmers cope with the varying extremes farmers cope with the varying extre m es of farmers cope with the varying extremes of weather . The weather last year was almost perfect for the landing of those sheep. We have north of england meals behind us which are to this region. As the summer went on, the grass became a bit shorter, we went into a mild autumn and winter, the forage stocks went into full as they have been in the past. Weve had a glut of lambs coming home. Depressed prices slightly. We have the brexit uncertainty hanging over the sheep industry. 90 of our lambs going to europe so the sheep industry has a lot of concerns at the moment regarding the uncertainty in the market. You say depressed prices. We have one of the lowest food prices in the world but it all correlates. It means the inputs but farmers are smartly out of kilter. Farmers are reliant on the european subsidy at the moment and the european expelled market so there is uncertainty Going Forward about whats going to happen. Ideally, what we want, what the market to turn a price for beef and dairy and cereals and hopefully brexit divides us that opportunity to sell more into the uk but at the moment, they are a down and where they were last year. I will leave you to keep an eye on it, keep the sheepin you to keep an eye on it, keep the sheep in order. That was really a big issue. Farmers incomes down. Lots losing money. We know that farming isa lots losing money. We know that farming is a volatile business. Speak to you later. Talking about all the weather changes. For you last year, did you lose money, im guessing . With the drought last year, we are losing about £4000 a week. It really hit home. What do you then have to do . You go to the bank and say, can we go overdrawn, more than you would previously . M that conversation easy to have . We do have a very good bank, we work closely with them all the time. Its good. How many years could you cope with that . Last year, tough year, could you do another one . Get another to like that and it will ta ke another to like that and it will take us out definitely. It was too big hit. This is a crop of beans. Last year, only about 18 inches tall. A couple of pods on them. One field of beans, we planted 220 kilos, had there of seed and we only harvested 170 kilos. That is just how bad it was. If we just have a little wander, the key thing is, if you are growing this, what are you doing now to make sure this kind of stuff carries on . One of the main things is to keep ourfingers crossed that it stands up. The rain can make it heavy. We cant pick it up can make it heavy. We cant pick it up or harvested. Its a big issue at the moment. Its back to the beans. We need these to pollinate the flowers. If the bees cant fly, we cant get pods. Wide good luck for this year, they seem like a fussy bunch. Right now the volatility of the weather, really putting things under pressure for them. What rules will they be trading into. The future of farming, who is going to be doing it in the generation to come. Still to come this morning. Well bejoined by the star of a new film which tells the incredible story of the world war ii women who were recruited to be part of churchills secret army of spies. But they did agree to launch an independent inquiry into islamaphobia in the conservative party, as our Political Correspondent iain watson reports. I think that october 31st is eminently feasible. No, thats not a guarantee. It is not going to be possible to negotiate a new deal with the European Union by 315t of october. Ithink, having been responsible for health and social care, that some of the cuts in social care did go too far. Of course, his competitors would challenge that. Lots of reaction to that last night. Our Political Correspondent nick eardley is in westminster for us. A lot of bluster and bluster, disagreement, which we expected. What did we learn about the candidates . The most pressure was on borisjohnson. Interesting to see some of the areas where he perhaps didnt give definitive answers. You heard on brexit, on the 31st of october deadline, on heathrow, on his income tax plans. Maybe not going as far as some of his supporters in parliament would have liked him to do. That said, there wasnt really a killer blow. There wasnt really a killer blow. There wasnt a moment on which his campaign looked like it was in trouble. And he is so far ahead with tory mps that he is almost certain to be on that ballot paper that goes to be on that ballot paper that goes to the membership. So its probably not a bad night for his campaign overall. The big race here is for who else will be going to tory members in that boat from the other four. Theres only 14 votes between second place and fifth place in the ballot of tory mps. Sajid javid insisted this morning he is staying in the race, that he still has a chance of finishing second when the votes are whittled down tomorrow. Rory stewart, the other man potentially in trouble, saying he is staying in the race. He still thinks he has something to offer. There is going to be another day of horse trading around here, and around six oclock tonight we will know who is knocked out. More votes tomorrow before we know the final two. A big week ahead. A woman in her eighties is in a serious condition after an accident involving a Police Motorbike which was part of a convoy escorting the duke and duchess of cambridge. Our reporter Jane Frances Kelly is in our london studio. The duke and duchess of cambridge we re the duke and duchess of cambridge were travelling from london to windsor, to the service commemorating the order of the garter at st georges chapel with the queen. It is thought a Police Motorcyclist went forward to clear traffic, and that is when the incident happened on the upper richmond road. A reporterfrom the sun managed to capture on film the scene afterwards. There is an ambulance, paramedics, they were in attendance. Kensington palace say that the royal couple didnt actually witness the incident. But they are said to be deeply concerned and saddened by what has happened. They have sent best wishes and flowers to the woman who is in hospital in a serious, but stable condition. An independent inquiry investigation has been launched. Thank you. Donald trump has officially launched his campaign for a second term as us president. He told 20,000 supporters in florida that he was still the man for the top job. Gary odonoghue was there. 503 days to go until americas next president ial election, but donald trump is already heading off to do what he loves best hittng the campaign trail. I stand before you to officially launch my campaign for a second term as president of the United States. Thank you. It was four years and three days ago the donald trump made his dramatic entry into the race for the presidency. Nobody took seriously that candidacy, but thanks to some controversial messages on issues such as immigration and trade, he built a coalition to take on the white house. He told his orlando audience that they had built a whole new political movement. Its a Movement Made up of ha rd working patriots who love their country, love their flag, love their children. In truth, this rally was mostly a rerun of well trodden territory. Attacks on Hillary Clinton, fake news and illegal immigrants. So what did his supporters want now . Were going to move the economy along some more. More jobs. Hes promising to build the wall, he said he was going to do that and says hes going to continue to do that, so i like that. Just being in the white house gives donald trump a huge political advantage going into next years election. But his appeal has always been as the outsider, as the non politician, as the insurgent. And recreating that a Second Time Around wont be easy. Gary odonoghue, bbc news, in florida. German chancellor Angela Merkel has said she is fine, after she was seen trembling as she greeted ukraines president on a boiling day in berlin. Mrs merkel was visibly struggling in the midday sun, as temperatures in the german capital approached 30 degrees celsius. Mrs merkel said she was simply dehydrated. An american billionaire has given Oxford University £150 million the largest single donation ever made to a uk university. The money from Stephen Schwarzman will be used to create a new institute for ethics in artificial intelligence. Mr schwarzman told the bbc he felt it was vital that society used all the good in al without falling prey to its potential pitfalls. We are going to show you some remarkable pictures. A 10 Year Old Girl has become the youngest person in history to climb the iconic el capitan rock formation in Yosemite National park in the United States. Selah schneiter completed the climb with her dad mike and a family friend. They took the so called nose route which took them 5 days selah said she hoped her achievement would inspire other girls to get active. Look at that, incredibly courageous. I feel like i know look at that, incredibly courageous. Ifeel like i know that look at that, incredibly courageous. I feel like i know that now, look at that, incredibly courageous. Ifeel like i know that now, having watched free solo about ten times. I am becoming obsessed with climbing document reads. Do you plan yourself . No lets return to our top story now, and tory mps will vote again later on who theyre backing to become leader following last nights live tv debate. It will fall to the partys 160,000 members though, to have the final say on who gets the biggestjob in the land. Lets take a look at what some of those watching in manchester had to say. I thinkjeremy hunt came out really, really well. I was pleasantly surprised. Earlier i was undecided. Now my shortlist is down to three, betweenjeremy now my shortlist is down to three, between jeremy hunt, sajid javid now my shortlist is down to three, betweenjeremy hunt, sajid javid and michael gove. On tonights performance, michael gove. Very impressive. I am not boriss greatest fa n, impressive. I am not boriss greatest fan, i was theresa mays greatest fan, i was theresa mays greatest fa n, greatest fan, i was theresa mays greatest fan, i was theresa mays greatest fan, i think they stabbed her in the back, hes trying to move the goalposts, saying one thing and meaning another. The same with other candidates saying they want to move the goalposts, instead of october to sist, the goalposts, instead of october to 31st, having some extra time. We have messed up. We cant have anymore extra time. Weve got to sort this out. But rory. Good candidates, really pleased. I will choose one, but im happy with any one of them. Lets speak now to the suns Political Editor Tom Newton Dunn and the daily mirrors nicola bartlett. Good morning to the pair of you. Really interested to get your assessment. Nicola, who do you think will be waking up thinking, i had a great night last night . will be waking up thinking, i had a great night last night . I think jeremy hunt, is one of the view is mentioned there, i think he seemed really calm, collected, and he didnt really have any kind of a nswer didnt really have any kind of answer that went wrong for him. He seemed to be kind of playing this as, oh, im in control, iam foreign secretary, i know what im doing. And i think, compared to some of the others, as people have said, it was a bit chaotic at points. People talking over each other. But he seems to be happy to sit back and give his point of view. Anyone lose ground, tom . I think rory stewart probably lost a bit of ground. Rorys candidacy is very much the insurgent attack, the man that will ta ke insurgent attack, the man that will take as much chances of Boris Johnson as possible. That is why, frankly, everybody is voting for him at the moment simply because of the damage he can do to boris, rather than the greatness he can do to the country as Prime Minister in his own right. I dont think you did that la st right. I dont think you did that last night. He was stumbling a bit, waffling a bit, he had a slightly bizarre moment of taking off his tie. He is probably feeling a little bit less stable this morning. Brexit, we knew there were going to be various arguments, but brexit was one of those where nobody seemed committed to a date, and yet its still the most divisive issue, whether you are in parliament or outside it . Yes, well, i think her name was carmelo, speaking from southampton, and i think she summed up southampton, and i think she summed up the views of the nation when she rolled her eyes on some of the responses. It was a lot of repetition of what these people have said before. They all repeated this thing, that the public have lost trust because we havent left yet. They were very scant on how they we re they were very scant on how they were going to change things from now until october. Michael gove said he would countenance a delay, but perhaps only 24 hours or 48 hour is, which is really last minute sa crisis time. Jeremy hunt my do the same. Borisjust crisis time. Jeremy hunt my do the same. Boris just repeated crisis time. Jeremy hunt my do the same. Borisjust repeated october the 31st. Rory, who claims to be the one that is really addressing this problem, his approach seems to be, well, ill persuade parliament of the need to vote for the deal. The same deal that has gone through three times. The problem all the candidates have is that they simply couldnt explain how they are going to execute their plan passed parliament. Boris johnson, hunt, gove and javid all want to negotiate the deal and get passed parliament, they cant say how. Rory stewart wants to get the current deal passed parliament and cant say how. The single biggest question, we are none the wiser. What did you make of the format . Quite a few viewers this morning talk about the fact it felt very adversarial, which i suppose you would expect with five people all vying for attention and trying to get their point across. There was a lot of arguing, a lot of interrupting. The questions from a remote studio, what did you think of that, did it help the debate . Well, i think it was a difficult format. Partly the chairs, the way they were sacked, they were almost left suspended in space, in a way. I thought they were going to do a west lifestyle boy band at one point. Having the questions from the public was really interesting, but i almost think the channel 4 format of having them in the studio like that put more pressure on them. We have no problem with you criticising the bbc, we are used to it problem with you criticising the bbc, we are used to it i have to agree with nicola, it was like gogglebox on speed, too many screens, too much going on. You have five candidates shoehorned into an hour, ten minutes speaking time each when you get the questions out the way. That isnt enough time to hold them to account on almost anything. Remember, you had all five candidates doing slightly different things. Borisjohnson was playing defensive. All he cared about was not gaffing and not giving anything away. There are so they were trying to get close in on him, and potentially rory stewart, to show they are the man to take on boris in they are the man to take on boris in the final two full stop i think it isa the final two full stop i think it is a bit early to have this forensic scrutiny with so much going on. Good on the bbc for persuading Boris Johnson to come out from under his rock, but i dont think it changed the price of fish last night. Speaking to you two in the past, one of you said anyone who tells you with any certainty they think they know what is happening, clearly hasnt been paying attention. But i will ask you anyway. What do you think will happen . Tom, over the next few days, is it still Boris Johnsons candidacy to lose . Boris johnsons candidacy to lose . Boris johnson will be in the final two, i will bet my house, and shirt on that. I dont think last night particularly helped him, but it wont have damaged him either. What is fascinating now as he joins wont have damaged him either. What is fascinating now as hejoins in. The next couple of couple of rounds of voting are brilliant. If you are politicaljunkies, of voting are brilliant. If you are political junkies, you live of voting are brilliant. If you are politicaljunkies, you live and breathe these high octane moments, because huge amounts of votes now come into play when people get knocked out. There are 30 votes up forgrabs, to knocked out. There are 30 votes up for grabs, to support dominic raab. Every campaign now fighting frenziedly to get them. One of the whip showed me a list, for each of Dominic Raabs supporters, three different of his mps were going to ring them through the night to try to batter them down. You get these votes piling in. The votes will probably allow michael gove to overta ke probably allow michael gove to overtake jeremy hunt, so probably allow michael gove to overtakejeremy hunt, so suddenly he is in second place. Tomorrow, two more ballots, the day of the long ballots, there will be a lot of position changes and the final vote will be very exciting indeed. My bet would be that it is still either jeremy hunt or michael gove to join boris, but you never quite know. Possibly sajid javid. It probably unlikely. Nicola . Yeah, ithink jeremy hunt, probably i would expect him to go through, just because he had that sort of early lead and where he could get the votes from. You know, from political commentators point of view, it would be lovely to see rory stewart to get through, just because it would be so interesting to see boris actually be rattled by somebody who is not jockeying for position, actually be rattled by somebody who is notjockeying for position, not hoping to get a job in his cabinet, and therefore willing to say whatever he wants to the potential new Prime Minister. Fascinating to see what happens. Tom, if you could keep your underpants on at all times, that would be great. For the moment. What a distressing thought to levon. We will speak to them over the next coming weeks, before we get the next coming weeks, before we get the answer to who is going to be the next leader. Carol is out and about this morning. A really special garden created by an Award Winning tea m garden created by an Award Winning team of pupils. As always, she has managed to find a friend. Good morning. They make a difference. The teachers notice the difference. The students are calmer around jess. Some of them are not as confident talking to adults, but they will read itjess stories and she enjoys them. You can see around me the plants and the vegeta bles around me the plants and the vegetables that the students have planted. They are very much involved in all of this. And then they take them up to their newly established cafe, where you can buy them, you can eat them. I am also told the vegeta bles can eat them. I am also told the vegetables are made into soup, which they will sell to the teachers. Very enterprising now, jess, i need to leave you, because im going to do the weather, although you look very co mforta ble. The weather, although you look very comfortable. Jess is wearing yellow as well. It is the colour of the morning. The weather, we had a good drink of water last night. Some of us saw some drink of water last night. Some of us saw some really heavy thunderstorms, torrential downpours. The met Office Yellow warning for thoseis the met Office Yellow warning for those is still in place, anywhere from yorkshire down towards dorset and all points east. Now, not all of us and all points east. Now, not all of us will see a thunderstorm or heavy downpour. If you catch one, you will know about it. On the satellite picture, where you see the brightest lights across the south east, that shows you whether thunderstorms were last night. Some of them had nearly 1000 strikes near eastbourne. In the south east and east anglia, in 12 hours we had roughly 10,000 Lightning Strikes. Thats a lot. So, this morning, the area that the met office has highlighted for that risk is still very much in force. Over towards the west of england and wales, something brighter, fewer showers. For scotland and Northern Ireland we are looking at a mixture of sunshine and showers. The temperatures are ranging from 14 to about 20, a humid 20 in the south east. A humid start to the day, too. Through this evening we will lose the thunderstorms, they clear into the north sea. For england and wales we will see some clear skies. Again, fewer showers around. For scotland and Northern Ireland we hang onto those showers. As the wind starts to swing to more ofa as the wind starts to swing to more of a westerly, a fresh feel to the start of tomorrow in the south east than we are looking at today. Tomorrow, generally fresher in the westerly breeze. We are also looking ata westerly breeze. We are also looking at a shower almost anywhere. Not all of us will catch them. You are more than likely to see them across parts of western scotland and Northern Ireland. Temperature wise, up to 20. Remember, it will feel fresher. As we head into friday, the northern half of the country is likely to see some sunshine and showers. As we can further south, High Pressure starts to build in, things settle down. It will be dry and we will see a bit more sunshine, with temperatures climbing into the low 20s. I can tell you thatjess climbing into the low 20s. I can tell you that jess is climbing into the low 20s. I can tell you thatjess is still down here. I think she is having a bit of a kip. Iwill go here. I think she is having a bit of a kip. I will go and join her. Isnt she the most placid and adorable dog . She is lovely. I love her little white paws. You are not concentrating, she wants more cuddles i think she will be there for a while. A former National Counter terrorism co ordinator has told the bbc that the government is not doing enough to ensure that venues are safe. Former chief superintendent Nick Aldworth warns that new legislation is needed to reduce the impact of any future attack. He is supporting campaigners for martyns law named after martyn hett, who died in the attack at Manchester Arena in 2017. Judith moritz reports. Security screening has become part of modern life. Arriving at a venue, most people dont give searches a second thought. Memories are still fresh from the attacks of 2017. People died on my watch. Thats a burden that i will carry. Former chief superintendent Nick Aldworth was responsible for keeping the uk secure from terrorism. Now he is warning that new legislation is needed to make sure venues are safe, and says the voluntary nature of the governments current strategy is too relaxed. I dont think that theyre either being fast enough or being innovative enough in what needs to be done. And anything less than new legislation is a compromise. We have the potential for places to be attacked, and for the consequence of those attacks, should they happen, to be far worse than they needed to be. After the spate of attacks in 2017, the government gave the police more money to increase the number of vehicle barriers like this one. But those pushing for new legislation say security shouldntjust be the responsibility of public bodies, but also venue operators in the private sector. Martyn hett was one of 22 People Killed in the explosion at Manchester Arena. Before martyn died, i wouldnt have had a clue about any of this. It wasnt on my radar. His mother has been campaigning for a law in his name, to make it compulsory for every venue to plan for the threat of an attack. Are you saying we need to become barrier britain, have a security arch in front of every venue . No, absolutely not. When i think of people like martyn, who enjoyed all these events without having to go through loads and loads of security, we are talking about common sense here. It could just be, you know, people being trained in recognising suspicious behaviour. It can be even as basic as that. Figen already has the support of some venues, who say they dont see extra legislation is a problem. Id actually almost flip it on its head and look at it as a business opportunity, and say, well, actually, if we can demonstrate that were putting the appropriate measures in place to ensure the security of the visitors, the venue, the employees, then actually thats got to be a good thing. The government says its considering further legislation and is keen to discuss the security issue with those that are campaigning for martyns law. Judith morris, bbc news, manchester. Jess ennis hill is on the way in a few moments. Now the news where you are. Good morning. We had a real lightning show last night across the south east of england. This was just one weather watcher photo that we had sent in from eastbourne. There were approximately 1,000 Lightning Strikes within an hour in one storm that moved its way north and eastward. Now, through today, we can still see some thunderstorms moving their way across the south east of england, east anglia. Elsewhere quite cloudy this morning, some showery outbreaks of rain, thats moving way eastward. Some sunshine, then, coming out western and northern parts. Therell be a mixture of some sunny spells and heavy showers into Northern Ireland and western scotland. Quite warm and quite humid, particularly across the south east of england. Through tonight we will continue with some shows moving their way into the north and the west. Some clear spells, though, going into the early hours of thursday morning and then throughout thursday, for many it should be a dry day. There will be a scattering of showers across england and wales. The maximum temperatures getting into the high teens, perhaps low 20s.
