On the first day of his visit to the uk, President Trump is welcomed by the queen at a state banquet, here at buckingham palace. A day of pomp began with the president inspecting a guard of honour on the lawn at buckingham palace. But there was controversy this morning, when, moments after touching down, mr trump called the mayor of london, sadiq khan a stone cold loser after mr khan said he didnt agree with the visit. Hello and welcome to our look ahead to what the the papers will be bringing us tomorrow. With me are the conservative commentator, Tim Montgomerie, and bonnie greer, whos a columnist, for the new european and playwright. And next to each other. Let us do oui and next to each other. Let us do our first and next to each other. Let us do ourfirst poem. Bumper. And next to each other. Let us do our first poem. Bumper. Later. Many of tomorrows front pages are already in. trump bump the front of the independent has gone with that photo of the queen and donald trump, where it looks like theyre fist bumping as he arrives for his three day state visit. Meanwhile, the guardian takes a slightly less positive stance on the us president s visit highlighting what it describes as his twitter attack on london mayor sadiq khan. The telegraphs leading onJeremy Corbyns decision to take part in anti trump demonstrations tomorrow the labour leader also chose not to attend this evenings state banquet at buckingham palace. Meanwhile another snub, this time from prince harry, leading the way on the front page of the sun. The i is concentrating instead on the cancellation of private talks between donald trump and the Prime Minister. And the times is also leading with a political angle on the visit its reporting theresa may is set to take a tough line with the president over china. Smiles all round almost on the front of the the metro, which shows the president and his wife melania at this evenings state banquet with the queen. And its a sea of red on the ft, with the president just visible amongst a guard of honour outside buckingham palace. So only one show in town and only one story. Where shall we start, the daily mirror, donald trump in britain, a picture of donald trump, his wife, melania, and the queen. Pump and protest. Not actually that many protests tomorrow. They have been fairly small. Much larger protests planned tomorrow. This is the protest that should be happening, on paper it should be happening, on paper it should be happening, every time donald trump shows up anywhere they should be a protest as far as im concerned. The only thing they would say, they have tweeted this, is that donald trump uses tweeted this, is that donald trump uses this kind of thing. He loves this. He will be upset, he will tweet, he will say they are losers, haters, but actually he uses footage for his rallies. So, in a sense, people have to come out, far be it from me to say dont protest donald trump, but if you are actually protesting to affect him, you wont do that. He will be angry, he will be upset, he aint gonna see it, numberone, and number be upset, he aint gonna see it, number one, and numbertwo he will edit the footage, shape it, he will pick out people he hates. Jeremy corbyn will be speaking there, that is perfect for him, then he will highlight Jeremy Corbyn, especially Jeremy Corbyn becomes the Prime Minister. You know, all of these things are there. And it was people we re things are there. And it was people were a tiny bit savvier about how this man works. Tim, bonnie says there should be protest. Perhaps whatever you think about him and his proto politics, isnt this about the position he holds and is therefore due the pomp . the position he holds and is therefore due the pomp . I think donald trump is guilty of all sorts of sins against good behaviour in lots of ways, but the thing that annoys me is that everyone has a right to freedom to protest, but im afraid, for all sorts of good reasons, this national interest, we entertain a range of heads of state and has of government in the uk stop one of the most striking examples is the president of china, xi jinping. There were not hundreds of thousands of left wing there were not hundreds of thousands of left wi ng protesters there were not hundreds of thousands of left wing protesters out when the president of china was honoured, even though at this moment the human rights abuses in china taking place are ofa rights abuses in china taking place are of a much greater order, com pletely are of a much greater order, completely different from anything we see in america. IfJeremy Corbyn was willing to attend a state dinner with the communist dictator of china, but not with our most important ally, on the eve of commemorations of the 75th anniversary of the d day landings. So protest should be sacrosanct, the right to protest, but it is the hope boxy of these people that stinks for me. I dont know if it is hypocrisy so me. I dont know if it is hypocrisy so much, this is what they believe. The issue is we are at a time in politics where people are personalising them, making them part of their own selves. I would have liked to have seenJeremy Corbyn of their own selves. I would have liked to have seen Jeremy Corbyn at the banquet, as leader of the opposition, as a man who was against war. They would have liked to have seen him there. They understand why hes not there. I understand, partly, his own brand is to be authentic, to be true to himself. But i would have liked to have seen in there. Anti americanism matters, im afraid, more toJeremy Corbyn and human rights. If he was consistent to human rights issues he would protest against other people as he does against donald trump. Anti americanism is big on the left. So many on the left, particularlyJeremy Corbyn, is guilty. I dont know anyone the left, personally, who is anti american. The issue is, as leader of the opposition, a constitutional position, eye would have liked to have seen him that, evenif have liked to have seen him that, even if he was standing there with a big sign saying they oppose you. Bonnie, to pick up on theJeremy Corbyn is to lead protests against donald trump, planned tomorrow, perhaps a quarter of a Million People going there, as he rode to be leading those protests . Jeremy corbyn is right according to his own pio corbyn is right according to his own pro politics. That is the reason why he and people like nigel farage are where they are. People want that authenticity, not whether you agree with it or you dont, that is what Jeremy Corbyn is. So for him not to do this would be inconsistent with who he is and what he believes in. What i think he should do, i would like him confront donald trump himself. He has the possibility and the capacity to do it. You can do that but he chooses to be in front ofa that but he chooses to be in front of a rally. At that is who he is. That is what he is. And that is why he is where he is because people like the consistency of this man. He wasnt the only person who didnt go to this dank state banquet. Vince cable didnt go either. Hypocrisy is not something id just accuse the labour party. Make use a number of leaders about this. There are all sorts of dictators and unattractive people around the world. We talk to these people, not necessarily because we love them, but because it is in britains interest to promote order, stability, and Economic Prosperity for this country. Lots of the things that probably in the studio now are made in china or made in parts of the world we may not approve of, but engaging with world leaders, engaging with countries we dont agree with is part of trying to improve the world. Notjust isolate people. But the potential Prime Minister of this country, and a shudder to save, borisjohnson, would disagree with you. Boris has been the kind of personality, he doesnt do lets do it for the good of the country, he does what he wants to do. He is a dreadful foreign secretary. They agree with you and maybe we are from the same place in believing of rising above that, but this rising above that is now being embodied in the person of the queen, which isnt where it should be. But that is what we want from our politics now. We want our politics to be personalised, to the bone, and all this whole thing. Politics to be personalised, to the bone, and all this whole thingm isnt personalised, dont think. This is about the head of state of the United Kingdom honouring the head of state of the notice states. And it is the 75th anniversary when the lives of al countries were s dumped out on the beaches of france. This is not so much about donald trump, but of honouring the country of your birthplace. And they didnt disagree with you. What i am saying is way a Jeremy Corbyn might not be there, why a borisjohnson make the statements he makes, is because we dont want that kind of politics anymore. I am saying that is not great. We want personalised politics. We want to see that. And thatis politics. We want to see that. And that is where we are right now. That is why he is president of the United States, because people like he is person stuff. Come on air force one, paid for by the taxpayer, and insult the mayor of london, which nobody has done before. People like him because it is authentic and real. That is where we are. Not everybody does. No, but a lot of people do like it, a lot of people who are his base think well done. Like it, a lot of people who are his base think well donelj like it, a lot of people who are his base think well done. I do not approve of what donald trump said about the mayor of london. But tell you what, if i was called a fascist, which on the front page of the observer is what sadiq khan did on sunday, i would. You would have called him a stone cold lose on twitter . A stone cold loser. If they had to be called and insult i would rather a stone cold loser than a zist rather a stone cold loser than a 21st century fascist, which is what sadiq khan said of donald trump. That is a dishonour to america as well as. But there is a teaching opportunity, includes in quotes, where he could correct that. People wait for the correction, he does not do it. He does not use the bully pulpit to instruct people. Whatever city car and says, he believes in what he said, donald trump had an opportunity to correct the record, he didnt do it. And he never does it. And his base like that about him. Let us move onto the i. I am confused. This says theresa may snob. She was at the state banquet this evening. My understanding was that she was meeting donald trump tomorrow for breakfast at st jamess palace with business leaders, then there were going to have talks and numberio. There were going to have talks and number 10. The there were going to have talks and numberio. Thei there were going to have talks and numberio. The i is there were going to have talks and number 10. The i is saying private talks between the pm and the president scrapped as relation seller. What can you tell us . Bonnie and they are both confused by this story. We will go the times in a minute. This story is about how they will not necessarily agree with chinas huawei, the Telecommunications Firm in the United Kingdom. The reason the donald trump is here is that theresa may invited him. It wasnt the queen who invited him. The queen does what the government basically says. And this was supposed to be a big moment in british history. We were supposed to have left the European Union in visit would have been the launchpad for a trade deal, supposedly, would have been between britain and america. There is no opportunity for a trade deal, we havent left, eye imagine donald trump is imagining why am imagine donald trump is imagining whyami imagine donald trump is imagining why am i meeting a Prime Minister thatis why am i meeting a Prime Minister that is leaving office. It is not going to be her decision. It is possible donald trump is trying to scale back a meeting with what is essentially a lame duck Prime Minister. I dont know. When trump uses the term stone cold loser, a new york time, that means you are dead. Immense dont take the phone call, cancel, he has done it in front of peoples faces, he has five people while they were out of town. He found out she is not the Prime Ministerand he he found out she is not the Prime Minister and he has he found out she is not the Prime Ministerand he has said he found out she is not the Prime Minister and he has said forget her. He said what . imb new york now. So you think he told someone he doesnt wa nt to you think he told someone he doesnt want to see her. Maybe someone told him. It is a scaling back potentially. No, the business meeting is off, because she is not in play. And that is our donald trump works double eight will he go and see somebody who is in play . He might have something with boris or nigel farage. But he will not be with the losers, because that is how he sees it. Yo, yo, yo cancel her out. They will have to learn that one. As tim says, on the front of the times, they had taken a political angle, trees are made to ta ke political angle, trees are made to take tough line with donald over china. A confrontational meeting. You have hinted at this. This is the whole row around the telecommunications company, huawei. Chinese. Chinese. To develop britains g network. Donald trump is very anti them. Britains g network. Donald trump is very anti them. And i have come from australia, down there watching the elections, and australia is very worried about this as well. There is a special relationship, the five Eyes Partnership between america, canada, britain, new zealand, and australia, where we co operate much more closely than any other nations in the world. And these worry across the world, australia because of its economic closeness to china, is especially worried about this. They have seen how china behaves when they get a commercial grip into your country. Basically the idea is that they will use this technology to spy. And the argument is that huawei is essentially an arm of the Chinese State and the Chinese Government can order the company to spy on us. British intelligence is saying they could be partly involved in part of the network and we could retain the core of our network and we will still be safe. America and other parts of the five eyes network are not so sure. But theresa may is not going to take this decision, it will be borisjohnson, going to take this decision, it will be boris johnson, it going to take this decision, it will be borisjohnson, it will be sajid javid, it will be whoever succeeds her. And trump doesnt do democracy, so his attitude will be you dont do huawei, he actually doesnt know why you dont do huawei, it is chinese, as far as he is concerned. So you ta ke as far as he is concerned. So you take that off the table, and i will say this now, we will watch the special relationship tested to destruction with this man, and we will watch what it is and what it aint, and this is the beginning of it with this. Whoever becomes the Prime Minister afterwards will have to do. Prime minister afterwards will have todo. I Prime Minister afterwards will have to do. I dont know if he can do it, or she can do it, will have to sit down and listen to this man lecture us about being a client state, because that is what it will come to. Isnt it true that the special relationship has bent and flexed over the years, sometimes it has been further apart than others, and this might be when the elastic is stretched a bit tighter . Although you could see a boris trump relationship being very strong. I think lots of criticisms can and should be made of donald trump, but for a long time now china has been ripping off the wests intellectual property, they have been stealing our innovation and our ideas, and trump is the one world leader who has finally stood up to china. Maybe he is not doing it as intelligently as he should, i certainly think it is unwise for him to be fighting trade was with mexico and other countries at the same time, but he is standing up to what is still a communist country. And i would like the next british Prime Minister to stand with him and that fight. What is dumb about it is this will be the number 1 World Economic power in the next 30 china, no question of it. So what the president of the United States needs to do is to find a way to do all the things that we want to do in relation to china, but do it in sucha do in relation to china, but do it in such a way that you dont put the chinese up against the wall. And this is what he does, and the United Kingdom is going to be one of the pawns in his personal game about i am here to take down china. Obama and the bushes and the clintons tried the diplomatic response, it got them know it epico bushes. I think we have to fight hard china. And china see this guy out of here in either next year or four years, it doesnt matter to them. And that is why i say we need to understand china. China does need to be brought into line, but you understand chinas timeline. Chinas growth is sustained with the consent of the people, if growth falters, i think they will worry. There are no economic indices that say it will not be number one in 20 years, they do not exist. Moving on from china, and from donald trump, on page two of the sun. Apparently trump is going to lift the nation. Bonnie is incredibly excited by this, the prospect of boris becoming Prime Minister. You need something stronger in your water to cope with this. The conventional wisdom until relatively recently among lots of westminster Political Class observers is that he might be popular with the tory class in the country, but he cant win over mps. A p pa re ntly country, but he cant win over mps. Apparently he now has 42 mps backing him, and the rumours are, the speculation is, the number will rise quite steadily, quite quickly, over the next few days. And that magic number ofjust the next few days. And that magic number of just over 100 which the next few days. And that magic number ofjust over 100 which will get him into the final round, with grassroots, he will achieve. This is mr tory grassroots here. What he says is pretty much what is happening, andl says is pretty much what is happening, and i think one thing you have to say about the conservatives, and lord knows i do not want them being in powerany longer and lord knows i do not want them being in power any longer than they need to be, the conservatives like to win elections, that is what they like to do. They dont have any sort of scruples about this faction, that faction. They want to win. So this guy looks like a winner to them, this is the guy they are going to choose, and of story. I think the other parties need to be clear that the conservative party is a vote winning machine. That is what they do. And if this guy, borisjohnson, even though they will be holding their nose, they will put him in power if they think he can win and hold on to their government, and thatis hold on to their government, and that is the end of the game. Thats it, and that is the tragedy of it, to be honest. I was going to say and thats it for tonight. I am not going to say thats the tragedy of it, that is for others to judge. Its been a delight for me, anyway. Thats it for the papers tonight. Dont forget you can see the front pages of the papers online on the bbc news website. Its all there for you seven days a week at bbc. Co. Uk papers, and if you miss the programme any evening, you can watch it later on bbc iplayer. A big thank you to my guests, Tim Montgomerie and bonnie greer. Thats all from us, and goodnight. Sportsday is next. Hello, im gavin ramjaun, and this is your latest sports news. England have lost for the first time at the cricket world cup. They were beaten by pakistan byjust 1a runs, in a game that went right to the wire, after the hosts were set a record run target. Patrick gearey reports. If you went by formal figures, pakistan had no chance in this, but thats what they want you to think. No other cricketing nation swings so freely from low to high. Having lost all ten wickets for 105 on friday, now they made 82 without losing one stop Mohammad Hafeez embodied the spirit, the aim to put the worlds number one side under a bit of pressure and see what happens. Jason roy, the cringing face of englands bad day in the field. Hafeez made another 70 runs before chris woakes finally got hold of him. Pakistan still had enough wind in their sales to set england world cup record run chase of 349. No wonder eoin morgan was practising his batting. It didnt help him here. The captain one of four england batsman to fall early. It was the one they missed that mattered. Joe root had been dropped on ten and made good on his escape, staring his way to the First Century of this world cup. England are anchored by their root, so listen to the reaction when pakistan finally dug him out. They knew how much closer to victory that had taken them, but one man remained in their path, jos buttler, who made englands second century. He hardly celebrated it, knowing the work still to do, but while butler was there, anything was possible. So this was the moment pakistan could finally believe. Fourfrom this was the moment pakistan could finally believe. Four from the final delivery not enough for england, the fallen favourites. Pakistan, gloriously unpredictable pakistan, have shaken up the world cup. Our performance throughout the tournament with the bat and the ball will ebb and flow. We will have bad days. I didnt think it was that bad. I thought with the ball we restricted them, they never really got away with us, given that the wicket was good and the outfield was very fast. And when we recovered with the bat, without substantial partnership, we were never really out of the game properly until the early 40s over, yeah. The olympic 800 metre champion Caster Semenya will not need to take testosterone reducing medication to compete. It comes as her lawyers said the Supreme Court of switzerland temporarily suspended a new ruling from the world governing body for athletics. Last month, semenya lost her challenge to the court of arbitration for sport against the iaaf rule restricting levels of testosterone in female runners. It would have affected women competing in events from the 400m to the mile. Semenya claimed she was specifically targeted. The iaaf have been given until 25june to respond. Andy murray will make his competitive return to tennis playing doubles at queens club this month alongside feliciano lopez, after undergoing resurfacing work on his hip following what he said could have been his last match at the australian open. Hes now pain free and has been back practicing. He is not yet ready to return to singles. Novak djokovic is into the quarter finals of the french open after a routine win over jan lennard struff. The serbian is hoping to become the second man to hold all four grand slam titles simultaneously on two seprate occasions, rod laver the only other man to do that. German fifth seed alex zverev lies in wait next. Defending champion simona halep is also into the last eight. She needed just 44 minutes and dropped just a solitary game against iga swiatek. The romanian will play another teenager, 17 year old american amanda anisimova, in the quarter finals. A little over a month until england begin the netball world cup, Tracey Neville has announced shell step down as head coach after the tournament. She has been in thejob forfive years, leading the team to that brilliant gold medal at last yea rs commonwealth games. Neville says her desire to have a family is the main reason for standing down. Thats all the sport for now. You can find more on all those stories on the bbc sport website. Thats bbc. Co. Uk sport. Hello. If you like yourjune weather to come with sunshine and warmth, this isnt the forecast for you. It is still quite busy out there, but it is not as windy as the past few days have been. There will be a few sunny spells coming back to southern england, maybe 20, 20 one degree. Look at that, just 12 degrees in belfast though. Cool, wet days on the way. Now, as we go through tuesday night into wednesday morning, still this rain rotating around this area of low pressure across parts of scotland, Northern Ireland and Northern England. The bulk of england and wales will be drier and clear at this stage, and as wednesday starts. Still a bit of rain around to begin wednesday across scotland, Northern Ireland, parts of Northern England. Gradually, as the day goes on, becoming confined to northern scotland. There will be a few showers developing elsewhere. There could be happy, possibly foundry, slow moving and light winds, but there will be some dry weather out there will be some dry weather out there as well. There will be some sunshine occasionally. May just there as well. There will be some sunshine occasionally. Mayjust see some rain reaching parts of Eastern England at the end of wednesday. That is is an area of low pressure in the north sea pushes ran northwards. More significant the effecting parts of Northern England and scotland. On the latest forecast on thursday. Where is the england and wales, into Northern Ireland as well, there will be a few heavy and possibly thundery showers developing, but some sunny spells. Towards the end of the week, the start of the weekend, another area of low pressure with the potential to bring some heavy rain over a larger area. So that is one to watch. But as we go into the weekend it is low pressure in charge, and that means for the rest of the week and into the weekend, it is saying u nsettled. And into the weekend, it is saying unsettled. Flaming june it is not, but wet it is sometimes. Thats your latest forecast. Welcome. Im Kasia Madeira in london. The headlines.
