And says it is filing for administration. The east midlands based airline, which operated more than 29,000 flights last year, blamed recent spikes in fuel and carbon costs. Some passengers have posted messages online saying they only found out about it after turning up at airports this evening. Our Business Correspondent rob young reports. Flybmi, no longerflying. Its cancelled all flights with immediate effect. The company is also filing for administration. The carrier flew more than half a million passengers last year. Its smalljets operated on routes from aberdeen, bristol, newcastle, east midlands, sta nsted and others, to 25 european cities. Passengers who have been affected are anxious. Im in belgium at the moment and ijust got the bbc alert that flybmi have gone into administration. All the flights for me to return home are really expensive and flybmi have said they wont return the £134 that i initially spent, so i dont know how im going to get back. Flybmi, based here at east midlands airport, says its collapse was unavoidable. Its blamed a spike in the price of fuel and changes in the cost of carbon permits. It said these had undermined efforts to turn a profit. The Company Statement said todays news was a surprise to passengers, but the airline is just the latest carrier to get into difficulties. We are now most of the way through whats been a miserable winterfor a large number of airlines. Weve seen failures, including germania, small planet, cobalt of cyprus, primera air of iceland, all these Small Airlines have been collapsing and im afraid that flybmi has flown for the last time. Passengers booked to travel with flybmi are being told not to go to the airport unless they have booked an alternative flight, but with School Holidays at the moment, the airlines collapse comes at an inconvenient time for many families. And joining us now from austria is charlotte edwards, a flybmi passenger, whose return flight to the uk from munich next week has been cancelled. Charlotte, thank you forjoining us. Can you just tell us what happened to you and what the first sign was that he knew something had gone wrong . Well, basically we arrived at the airport, Bristol Airport, went to security, went to the departures gate and then there was an announcement to say that the flight had been cancelled and to come to the gate. And then we were directly told that sorry, not really any information, but we have sorted taxis from Bristol Airport to heathrow, which obviously was really inconvenient. And then myself, my husband and three children had to get to heathrow in the taxi, and then we will put on a transit flight to munich. And then yeah, so then we have arrived in munich and now we are making our way into austria. We did not know anything about what had happened at bma and we actually arrived at munich and got a message my friend, saying we are a bit shocked. Bmi. My friend, saying we are a bit shocked. Bmi. Are you quite surprised that you did not know much about it for you got on this other fly tippers now presumably, you got to try and get home again next week . Yes, exactly. It would have been very good for us to get a heads up to make an informed decision as to whether we still wanted to come out here. We at now caught in the situation where we are out here, return flights on the sunday to get back to work and the children back to school, are really expensive and yeah, were just got to get our heads around how we are actually going get home. So yeah, it is a bit ofa going get home. So yeah, it is a bit of a nightmare but it could be worse. I suppose you get your weeks holiday in what there durably, you will be quite anxious about how you get home. Having had any help from the airline at all about how you get home . It had an email thatjust said to go onto their website and look at the information there, but when we tried to go onto the website, it crashed because obviously everybody i think. So no, not really. Yeah, so we do not really know what we are going to do. We will have the kind of think about all look into the mire and i potentially, we will not be able to come home on the sundayjust because the cost of travelling on a sunday is just the cost of travelling on a sunday isjust going to the cost of travelling on a sunday is just going to be too much, the cost of travelling on a sunday isjust going to be too much, to be honest. Well, i hope you do manage to have a good, relaxing holiday despite your concern about getting home and good luck with thatjourney home and good luck with thatjourney home too. Thank you very much to charlotte edwards, who is in austria. Now, thejustice secretary david gauke says the governments main priority has to be the safety of the public, when considering the case of Shamima Begum. The family of the pregnant teenager who left britain to join the Islamic State group say theyd welcome a Police Investigation into her actions, but want the government help bring her home. Sophie long reports. This is the al hawl camp in Northern Syria where the 19 year old from east london is living as she awaits the birth of her third child. Shamima begum says both her son and daughter died, and she wants to come back to britain so her unborn baby doesnt suffer the same fate. Herfamily, who had feared they would never see her again, have asked the government to help them get her home. But the justice secretary says there are risks to allowing people like Shamima Begum to return to britain, and they would look at her case very closely. What has to be the priority of the British Government is ensuring the protection of the british people as a whole. We do have a number of powers in this area. We have to act within those powers. But we need to make sure that the british people are not put unnecessarily at risk. In a statement, Shamima Begums family said, as a british citizen, she has every expectation to be returned to the uk and be dealt with under the british justice system. Shamimas child, who will also be british, has every right as a total innocent to have the chance to grow up in the peace and security of this home. Shamima begums case is not unique. Some 850 people left the uk to join so called Islamic State. Around half have already come back. Some working against extremism say there needs to be more focus on what caused her to go, to prevent others from doing the same. I realise that she is a bit of the poster girl of that phenomenon of those young girls going off tojoin daesh. But if we take stock of whats happened, we need to see how did she get there and how can we stop other people from going down that route . The home secretary has said he would prevent people in terrorist organisations returning to britain. It is unclear what that will mean for Shamima Begum, who was just 15 when she left the uk for syria. The american Vice President mike pence says the Islamic State group in iraq and syria has been decimated. He was speaking after a commander with Kurdish Forces fighting is claimed that within a few days theyd be able to announce the end of the groups existence. 0ur chief International Correspondent lyse doucet reports. The caliphate has crumbled. Its last piece in this small syrian town of baghuz. And this, their last stand. These pictures are said to be filmed by Islamic State fighters, but they are under fire on all sides, from Kurdish Forces, backed by american firepower. Translation the area that is is still in is around 700 metres and they are surrounded. The delay to us storming the neighbourhood is due to the presence of civilians, who the terrorists use as human shields. As local forces advanced, frightened families flee. Amongst them are believed to be is fighters on the run. A far cry from when they ran their cruel caliphate. Here in munich, us Vice President mike pence tried to reassure allies. Us troops are coming home, but america isnt leaving. The United States will continue to work with all our allies to hunt down the remnants of isis wherever and whenever they rear their ugly head. The end of the caliphate matters, but it is not the end of is. Thousands of its fighters have already slipped back into syrian and iraqi society. Theyre again feeding on local grievances and already conducting attacks and assassinations. Americas allies here, and in the region, worry about whats coming next. The caliphate has been a magnet for foreign fighters. Thats over. But iss extremist ideas still pose a powerful threat far beyond the region. Lyse doucet, bbc news, munich. League 2 newport countys dream run in the fa cup is over, beaten 4 1 by Manchester City tonight. Having knocked out the likes of leicester and middlesbrough en route to the fifth round, the premier league champions, who are 82 places above them, proved a step too far, as Patrick Gearey reports. Are bare pitch in bearpit, newport isa are bare pitch in bearpit, newport is a long way off the beaten track for Manchester City. This is the fa cup at its purest, dragging millionaires into the mud than hurling things at them. Not subtle, but merely sensational, this was the moment, this moment cruelly and brilliantly snatched from him by edison in Manchester Citys goal. His colleagues were not moving as well. Struggling for rhythm on a pitch churned by hosting rugby. U nfortu nately for leroy pitch churned by hosting rugby. Unfortunately for leroy sane, in this game you get nothing for over the bar, and city got nothing for the bar, and city got nothing for the first half, but minutes into the second half, sane adjusted his aim. Poorjoe day in the newport goal became famous when his wife gave birth to twins during the last round, and unfortunately he missed this delivery as well. There is no shame in conceding to this city team, after all, chelsea give it six times last weekend. The threats are everywhere, this is danilo, the right back, and this is phil foden, the great english hope, a goal that seemed to suck the suspense from the air, but newport dont go away that easily. Padraig amond has scored in every round of the cup and this one will stand out. Newport have done what many of englands besides havent managed and scored a goal against mighty Manchester City. The problem, of course, is that city can go and get another of their own. Fodens second, citys third, closed the question. Then riyad mahrez, whose diamond still shine even in the newport mud. Millwall booked their spot in the last eight as they saw off fellow south london club afc wimbledon i 0. The only goal of the game came early on from murray wallace. It means the 2004 finalists are now one win away from a semi final spot at wembley. And brighton are also in the last eight after beating derby county 2 1. Anthony knockaert scored their opener before Yves Bissouma doubled their advantage. Former england defender ashley cole pulled one back. He has won the cup seven times. This was his first fa cup goal. Rangers missed the chance to narrow the gap between themselves and celtic at the top of the premier league down to three points. Rangers had to settle for a 0 0 draw at home to stjohnstone. That means celtic could go eight points clear with a win at kilmarnock tomorrow. Third place aberdeen were also held at home by st mirren. Elsewhere, there were wins for hibernian and dundee. To rugby unions premiership, and saracens are back at the top of the table, dislodging exeter chiefs after an impressive 33 10 win over leicester. The defending champions had to come from behind, though, to get their bonus point victory over tigers, as David Strettle scored their fourth, keeping their hopes of an unprecedented treble alive. Britains laura muir set a new National Indoor record over the mile at the birmingham indoor athletics. She won in a time of four minutes 18. 75 seconds to beat kirsty wades record, which had stood since 1988. The time was also the fastest in the world this year and the third quickest of all time. And that wasnt the only sporting feat of the day. Mike bushell never shirks from a challenge, and this afternoon was no different, as he raced against some of the fastest men in the uk at the birmingham indoor athletics. Mike somehow managed to persude the organisers to allow him to compete against the best of britains under 23s in the 60 metres sprint, and this is how he got on. Not the best start from mike in lane four, but he started to get the boosters on midway through, accelarating through the line. But well done, mike. You can see more about his day on breakfast tomorrow morning from 6 00am. Thats all the sport for now. You can find more on all those stories on the bbc sport website. That is bbc. Co. Uk sport. An expected visit to china by the chancellor, philip hammond, will now not go ahead. It follows reports that beijing pulled out of trade talks after the defence secretary, gavin williamson, indicated that the uk may be willing to deploy a warship in the pacific. The treasury says that the trip had never been confirmed. 0ur Political Correspondent ben wright reports. Theresa may courting china last year, as the government looks to life after brexit. Beijing is important to its plans. The uk wants closer trade links, and eventually a new deal, and plans had been made for the chancellor, phillip hammond, to make an imminent visit to see chinese officials. The treasury says nothing was ever confirmed, but now the trip is off. Why the hiccup . Well, it comes days after a pretty bellicose speech by the defence secretary. China is developing its modern military capability and its commercial power. I can announce the first Operational Mission of hms Queen Elizabeth will include the mediterranean, the middle east, and the pacific region, making Global Britain a reality. Pledging to send a british Aircraft Carrier to chinas backyard in the pacific, and possibly create a permanent british presence in the region, are remarks that will have been noticed in beijing. An mod source said it was completely untrue to say the speech had anything to do with Philip Hammonds trip not happening. But the former chancellor george osborne, who was aggressively pro china during the cameron government, today said the current british approach was confused. Youve got the defence secretary engaging in gunboat diplomacy of a quite Old Fashioned kind, at the same time as the chancellor of the exchequer and the foreign secretary are going around saying they want a Close Economic Partnership with china. And ultimately, its the responsibility of theresa may as Prime Minister to sort this out, cause at the moment, it looks all at sea. It is a challenge balancing the need to have close economic ties to china with security and strategic concerns. Philip hammonds trip may well be rescheduled, but the uncertainty around it is another reminder of how sensitive relations between the uk and china can be. Ben wright, bbc news, westminster. The government is considering forcing mobile phone companies to open up their networks to competitors, to try to improve reception in rural areas. Ministers want 95 of the uk to have a mobile signal by 2022. More than 20 of the uk is without access to an adequate signal for basic Voice Services from all mobile operators. Thousands of criminals in england and wales will be tagged with gps trackers to allow authorities to constantly monitor their wherabouts. In recent years, rainbow bootlaces have become a way for sportsmen and women to show their support for the lgbt community. But now, Non League Football team altrincham have taken it to a new level by playing a game in a whole rainbow kit. 0ur reporterjo currie was at the match. Altrincham Football Club was looking a little more colourful than usual this afternoon. And it was a scene also reflected in the changing room, with these specially designed one off rainbow shirts taking the place of the teams usual kit. It is in support of football v homophobia. It is a simple idea, but it is one that has seen the club go viral. Itjust shows how much work weve got to do, that something being done at this level by a club like ourselves has resonated so clearly around the world. The club has sold over 250 shirts, with proceeds going to charity, and theyve gone down well with fans. Im part of the lgbt community. Im bisexual, and ive come to games with my civil partner for years. Homophobia still exists in football, and anything we can do to stamp it out is a great idea. In football especially, its one of those subjects that isnt approached much. I think its really great to support it. Altrincham believe they are the first senior Football Club anywhere in the world to have a kit based on the lgbt flag. They hope this move will help encourage other teams to promote the football against homophobia message. This may only be one small gesture by one club, but it represents a much bigger ideology that football really is for everyone. Jo currie, bbc news. Derbyshire did ok for much of the day, it felt springlike even though temperatures not as high as the last couple of days. We will get to see some sunday sunshine either side of an area of cloud which may give you a bit of rain moving in from the atlantic. I say it may because it will move we can weaken as it moves east across the uk. Northern ireland and scotla nd the uk. Northern ireland and scotland under cloud, a bit of rain here and there but some heavier burst. They wont really be moving in until late in the night for Northern Ireland scotland. Any cloud affecting parts of england and wales will tend to clear away. So temperatures are not going down too far. A very mild start to february, in belfast, 10 degrees. At 9am, for many of us there is sunshine. A fairly narrow area of cloud and rain the south west england, wales, moving into north west england, beginning to pull away from Northern Ireland. Some heavier burst still around parts of western scotland to start the day. A windy day tomorrow, these are average wind speeds in the arrows, gusts of up to 50 mph in western scotland, for example. So the story of sundays weather is just watching this zone of cloud and the chance of rain gradually moved east. Northern ireland is soon back into the sunshine. Western scotland, wales and west of england brightening up. Rarely any rain left once this weather system pushes into eastern scotland and eastern england. A little bit milder, we could see 16 degrees in east of england, in the sunshine. That will last four a lot of the day until the cloud arrives, lurking in parts of east anglia and south east england through sunday night into monday, delivering a bit of rain at times. Elsewhere, clear spells but showers moving in from the north west. Some of these could be quite heavy, no frost is monday starts. 0n through monday, plenty of showers pushing into the north west on a brisk wind. Hail or thunder possible with this. Plenty of sunshine around for the bulk of the uk, rather cloudy for the south east.
