The first symptom was just extreme nausea, the room wasjust spinning. The first scary part was when my arm was tingling and speech was becoming more difficult. I thought, ive seen these signs before on television, i know what to look out for, etc. Ijust never quite believed that it would happen to me at such a young age. Because of the duration of the nausea, i did actually vomit quite heavily, which is not nice, but i do think it got me more seen to more quickly in the a e department. My symptoms cleared quite quickly. And after a couple of days i was completely symptom free. Yeah, as i say, i was lucky that there was no damage caused and that the clot didnt mess around too much. Do you know what caused it yet . Yes, weve got a very good idea. We know that it was caused by a vertebral artery dissection, which is damage to the artery that feeds the brain. The cause of that, the likelihood is due to a bobsleigh crash. You know, what we put our bodies through is stressful. You know, bobsleigh can be dangerous. Most of the time it isnt, but itjust shows that every now and then it can be. You know, ijust rode my luck too much. But the good thing is, there is no underlying cause in terms of health considerations. Ive had my heart checked out. You know, as far as im concerned, theres no risk of this happening again. Did you ever think when you were going through that, hang on, i might have to take a step back . Or was it always a single focus, i want to be back . Theres no health dangerfor me now. Im fit to resume. As soon as theyll let you yeah, as soon as theyll let me, basically, im chomping at the bit to get back. Well see what the next cycle sort of holds for us. Sir Bobby Charlton was one of the survivors pulled from the wreckage and was at a ceremony at old trafford today to mark the sixtieth anniversary of the crash. Vince hunt is from Manchester Metropolitan University and is organising an event at the university tomorrow to mark the disaster. Vince, thanks forjoining us. We will talk about how it shaped the city in a moment, but first, just of the ceremony at old trafford today, very poignant. It was. If they could get more poignant, they do get more poignant, particularly with Bobby Charlton. He is such a gracious man. And he feels it is so deeply. Its almost painful to see how he carries it on his sleeve, isnt it . And he is of course only one of two survivors, two of the players that are still alive today from that crash. I think were really commemorating the last time that were going to be able to hear from the people who were there. And how did it affect the city of manchester at the time . And how has it shaped the city since . Cast your mind back to the days before social media, instant news. People were waiting for the latest editions of the newspapers to come out. It hit manchester like a shock wave and it kept on rolling, because remember Duncan Edwards was critically ill for two weeks and then died. And these things just kept hitting the city. And the commemorations, the funerals for the commemorations, the funerals for the reporters. People were eight deep lining the streets of manchester. As we know, there were journalists on the plane as well alongside the Manchester United players. 0bviously incredibly hard for the families and those who lost their lives, but equally as hard in many ways for those who had to carry on, especially the players, who had to turn out for the club in the end. Can you imagine pulling on that red shirt for the first time after the munich disaster, when you lost your team mates, your friends, a munich disaster, when you lost your team mates, yourfriends, a whole group of young lads who had just won the league title twice in two years and were tipped for a third. It mustve been unbelievably hard for quys mustve been unbelievably hard for guys who were just lads to run out and carry on playing football, when something as disastrous as this had just happened.
