The citys bid had already been approved by the department of culture, media and sport as they were preferred to liverpool, but now they have treasury backing. They will formally submit their plans to the Commonwealth Games federation tomorrow. Other uk cities have hosted the Commonwealth Games in the past and we have seen a strong legacy from them hosting that. There has always been a boost to the local economy from hosting the event, and you see a strong like viewing in terms of both participation combo but also use of the venues after the event. This is a real opportunity for birmingham and the West Midlands and the uk to showcase itself is hosting these Major International events across the world.
