At Summer Camp: More Anxiety, More Learning, More Hugs

Some school district-run and traditional summer camps infused more academics into their programs, while others doubled down on arts, crafts and physical activity — but all focused on fun. Summer camp is seeing a massive influx of cash: The American Rescue Plan Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief Fund earmarked $1.2 billion specifically for summer enrichment. Federal guidelines also required school districts to use at least $21 billion in aid for evidence-based initiatives to blunt the impact of the pandemic, some of which also went to summer camp programs.
