Arj Barker has never made a secret of his belief in aliens; that he hasn’t aged a day in his 20-plus years of stand-up suggests he might have some alien tech in his garage.
Barker’s amateur ufology isn’t the only thing that betrays his Californian upbringing. Here he extrudes heady laughs from his yoga journey, doles out faux inspirational quotes and squeezes in this festival’s sharpest turmeric gag. With his velvety SoCal lilt still firmly in place, it’s easy to forget he’s been an adopted Melburnian for decades, especially given it’s one of only a clutch of non-Aussie accents at this year’s festival.
