The production of black truffles (
Tuber melanosporum), one of the -most high-value products in the world market, only began to expand in Argentina in the last decade. One of the pioneering companies in its cultivation in the country was Trufas del Nuevo Mundo from Buenos Aires.
The company has more than 50 hectares of black truffle production forests in the south of the province of Buenos Aires, in Espartillar. The company exports this precious mushroom to Spain and France, and it's getting ready to arrive in the United States and the UK.
Trufas del Nuevo Mundo expects to produce 2,000 kilograms of truffles per year by 2024. A considerable amount, considering that a kilo of black truffles costs more than 1,500 euro in the international market.
