Brazilian regulator Anatel (Agencia Nacional de Telecomunicacoes) has cleared a proposal that will see the 6GHz (5925MHz-7125MHz) frequency band opened for unlicensed Wi-Fi 6E access.
Anatel approved the proposal after determining that using the 6GHz band for Wi-Fi could generate tremendous economic value, with CommsUpdate forecasting that it could add as much as a colossal US$112.1 billion to Brazil’s GDP up to 2030.
According to the Dynamic Spectrum Alliance (DSA), many Latin American countries are considering a similar strategy to maximize the value of their spectrum with Argentina, Colombia, Costa Rica, Honduras, Mexico and Peru all expected to announce their plans for the 6GHz band this year.
