Working with alpacas for 23 years has not lost its appeal for Jody Pellerin.
Pellerin, who runs Backyard Alpacas with her husband Kevin just east of Grande Prairie, started with first-generation descendants of animals imported to Canada from Peru.

Alpacas’ famous fleece is harvested without killing or hurting the animal, and the ease of handling them appealed to Pellerin.
“I like working with the fleece because there is so much you can do with it between felting, spinning,” Pellerin said. “(Alpacas) are easy to manage. A small person can handle them as long as you get a well-mannered one, which most of them are.”
