States like pennsylvania which officials flatly reject. What the president needs to do is frankly put his big boy pants on the show acknowledge the fact that he lost and he needs to congratulate the winner. And unresolved election and a nation on edge 3 days after one of americas most divisive and knife edge president ial votes it appears that the democratic challenger joe biden is moving ahead of President Donald Trump in battleground states which will decide the final outcome biden is projected to have won 264 Electoral College votes trump passed 214 the number of course required is 270 bought a nice to win in only one of those undecided states to get over the finishing line. Lets start with pencil very near where biden is ahead trump by just over 16800 votes the remaining but mail in ballots are mostly from democratic leaning cities of philadelphia and pittsburgh biden is also leading in georgia by just over 4000. 00 votes in an unusually tight race but Officials Say they expect a recount as the margin of difference is within half a percentage point and the state of nevada could well be the last so down it has the highest percentage of votes left to count but those 6 delegates could make or break either counted it and right now joe biden is in the lead there as well. Lets take a look at North Carolina where trump leads by 76 and a half 1000 thats not a surprise the state has voted republican in every election since 1980 apart from when barack obama won in 2008 so while the race is yet to be won a u. S. House speaker democrat nancy pelosi is already describing joe biden as president elect and she accused trump and his team of hurting the nation by denying the outcome it appears that the Trump Administration will use its final moments in office and the desperate last step to destroy every possible return action for American Health and well being so many people have said to me and some of you along the way what damage do you think that trump will do between losing the election and the swearing in the inauguration of joe biden maybe you didnt phrase it quite that way but thats how i heard it and we knew that he wouldnt be up to mischief. Separate and apart from that trying to destroy the credibility of our elections which we criticize other nations for doing and now we all enemies foreign and domestic make an assault on our elections when we have won domestic election Officials Say the as yet to be any evidence of voting irregularities but Donald TrumpsRepublican Party says legal teams have been sent to 4 states to investigate we have seen some discrepancies in michigan and some irregularities that deserve investigation democrats and the media spent 4 years and millions of taxpayer dollars talking about a russian hoax on the grounds of Election Integrity now with just over 48 hours after polls have closed in an actual election for president they want to ignore clear irregularities russia call states as one and the selection we will not stand for that every candidate in every office from president down to the local level has a legal right to challenge irregularities that occur in the process of canvassing ballots we intend to ensure that every lawful voter has their vote counted in accordance with the law that observers are granted the access they are do under state law and that any irregularities that have occurred whether by a malicious attack intent or incompetence are fully investigated to the fully fullest extent allowed under the law. Ok we have correspondents across all the important states lets begin with our White House Correspondent candy help who is in washington lets start with the mood from detroit today whats whats it like that where you are. There seems to be a doubling down of the effort to sort of move forward with these Legal Proceedings not only is there been fund raising theyre looking for some 60000000. 00 and are sending out requests to donors but also the u. S. President will has not been in front of the Television Cameras is making very clear he prefers and will fight this. Because he believes that he has won the white house so hes be moaning on twitter the fact that he has had a very big lead and he believes that he will recover the sleeve when the Legal Proceedings commence in some cases that is already underway but hes also taking issue with something that the former Vice President democratic president ial nominee joe biden had to say when he spoke in front of the Television Cameras donald trump tweeting joe biden should not wrongfully claim the office of the president i could make that claim also Legal Proceedings are just now beginning to be clear joe biden did not say that he had won but said he was confident he will win so there is clearly the irritation of the part of the u. S. President who has made that claim that he won that he feels that this is an attempt to essentially control the narrative something that donald trump is trying to do so what weve got here is a real intense effort from the Trump Campaign on all fronts including from the president who continues to be its biggest Spokes Person meanwhile we have were getting a bit of a mixed picture from republicans some distancing themselves from donald trump others still showing his support. Yeah the latest is one of the more high profile resignations from within the trumpet ministration. Joe 6 who is one of the most prominent africanamericans in the trumpet ministration has announced he is resigning and he still is very positive in the end can gradually start on the the effort that hes done in his Resignation Letter but at the same time its clear that republicans are weighing their political futures in a post donald Trump Presidency and what weve also seen is in fact that some republicans are even stopping short of criticizing the president others are actually criticizing the president what theyre feeling is that well many were ok with sort of riding the coattails of donald trump what he was driving high in the polls given the prospect that he may not win a 2nd term they are now calculating their own political futures many thanks. For us in washington lets turn to mike hanna who is in bidens home state has done a ton of web joins us from d. C. City wilmington now we are expecting to hear from biden at some point tonight what is the mood at the biden camp presumably feeling positive. Well what we understand at the moment is that joe biden will be speaking but only after one of the major results come through hes waiting it would appear for a projection of pennsylvania in particular to come through before coming to the Convention Center to make his speech why pennsylvania in particular well if pennsylvania is projected for biden that puts donald trump out of the race completely obviously it would take biden over the figure in the Electoral College but it would also mean that donald trump is completely defeated in the selection race so that is a position we havent confirmed that with the campaign as yet that it is conditional on getting a projection in pennsylvania in particular what i can tell you at the moment is that the a convoy has not yet arrived joe biden store relaxing at his home a few miles away from the Convention Center here but he is being an air of confidence in the Campaign Headquarters here as it has been since the results started coming in there was a great deal of concern in that 1st 12 hours when the in person voting which in most areas was counted 1st indicated a swing or very successful showing by President Trump but in the past 24 hours in particular they whole tone changing within the campaign recognizing the immense impact that the 1000000 votes absentee ballots are having on the selection and the result the impact is absolutely immense in pennsylvania for example we are seeing some 80 percent of those 1000000 votes are going to biden and that is why the picture has changed in states like georgia and pennsylvania but that is a position at the moment i must reiterate as well is that the election is only formally surf. Divide in a few weeks time and that is the 1st wednesday after the 2nd monday in december which is december the 14th this only on that day that members of the Electoral College will gather in washington d. C. And formally certify the election and formally confirm the name of the president elect and his running mate so that is the situation a great deal of secret Service Activity here at the Convention Center but as yet we cannot confirm that joe biden will be speaking unless there is a mess of projection for him in the next hour or so. Mike hanna for us from bidens home state of delaware many thanks we can turn to patty called pain in philadelphia which is a state that we have been focusing on for the last 48 hours what is the latest on the count that. We have a news its very excited because you know we hear back and forth throughout the last few days and sometimes we have 10000 votes 20000 votes sometimes we have no new votes but weve just heard from Allegheny County thats on the other side of the state by pittsburgh they basically because of a challenge the ballots they had 35000. 00 that they couldnt cast till today so theyve cast they counted till today theyve counted the 1st 5 to 6000 and joe biden has walked away with 4000 additional votes around in the double trump about another 1000 this was expected because again like that for here in philadelphia thats a city in suburbs that tend to vote democratic so now we think that joe biden is up by about 20000 votes theyre still counting in places behind me like the Convention Center on the other side of the Convention Center pretty joyous celebrations not huge but we dont see a ton of Trump Supporters although we do know the Text Messages have gone out to Trump Supporters saying head to philadelphia come to the Convention Center but the people of the other side of a given setter. Really optimistic they think that joe biden has this just because the last 2 days as the mail and votes are being counted biden is taking 70 to 80 percent of those votes so if theres about 150 that shows you could get another 70 to 80000 votes why does that matter well it matters because the Supreme Court in the state did something a little unusual they extended the deadline to basically bring in ballots before you had to have there by election day then they said up until friday at 6 oclock as long as it was postmarked well that what the Supreme Court the conservatives didnt have the majority was tied but they indicated that we may throw out those ballots and so it has gone back to Supreme Court now so whats going to happen doesnt matter because were talking about 4000 votes so if joe biden has 70000 by the end of this ahead of donald trump taking or 100 of those 4000 it simply doesnt matter so another hours passed we have a little bit more votes counted now it looks like joe biden is about 20000 votes ahead of donald trump here in the pivotal state commonwealth of pennsylvania. And thats been a lot of criticism and focus on philadelphia by President Trump on his focus a lot of his and legal challenges the and it seems that the philadelphia mayor has had enough hes hit back talk us through what hes had to say. Yeah exactly and i think its important to remember why are we here is friday the election is tuesday well were here because the Republican Controlled Legislature simply refused to let Election Officials count those ballots ballots before hand they are going increasingly towards biden because lets not forget what the president said for months belen ballots are. They dont work so his supporters didnt cast malin ballots so basically now you see that the vote has changed and so that leads to all these people saying oh look it was ranked no its simply the way the different Political Parties tended to cast their ballots but there is great concern here in pennsylvania because the president has focused so much of his attention on this state and have and all the states where hes losing talking about recounts i think you know. That within the party to i was going to make the point is how it comes to recounts traditionally they dont move votes by more than just a couple 100 its never thousands and tens of thousands of them which is really what donald trump would need to try to get back in states like pennsylvania but then again the mayor of pennsylvania is pretty much had enough and he used some very philadelphia language to send a message to the president lets listen. Now i think what the president he said do is frankly put his big boy pants on he needs to acknowledge the fact that he lost and he needs to congratulate the winner just as jimmy carter did just as george h. W. Bush did and frankly just as al gore did and stop this and let us move forward as a country the votes will continue to be counted until every valid mail in ballot absentee ballot and provisional ballot is counted so while some including the president continue to spew baseless claims of fraud claims for which his team has not produced one iota of evidence what we have seen here in philadelphia is democracy pure and simple our Founding Fathers who conceived the system just a 15 minute walk down the street i know would be proud. And this is why theyre concerned because were actually starting to see potential threats of violence the police here say that just yesterday as the votes were being counted 2 gentlemen from virginia 2 men from virginia came up here heavily armed f. B. I. Tipped off the police here they found their car found the men Walking Around with weapons that they werent allowed to have in philadelphia you know their licenses for it so they were arrested and charged with felonies dont know what their intention was but again the vote is being counted behind me and the thought of heavily armed men from out of state Walking Around the Convention Center it could give you some pretty bad ideas of what might have happened so people are very much on edge here even though it is friday night and they have very loud motorcycles theres a heavy Police Presence people want this over were getting closer and 100000 votes left to cast and then maybe talk about provisional ballots but thats all the time. There for us in philadelphia lets get more on the race in georgia. He joins us live from miami in neighboring florida and so we have heard today that georgia is going to go for a vote recount what sort of timetable will that look like well from my understanding the timetable is they have to complete that recount by november the 20th and this is a kilian task however you look at it these are officials and ballot workers dealing with a pandemic dealing with. How to deal with before so they may finish early or they may finish it on time but i think november the 20 theres a date we have to bear in mind here now the lead between biden and trump biden leads by about 4000 votes at the moment but if we go back in time to choose day on election day which feels like a long way away at the moment. Donald trumps lead was about 370000 votes and just like in the rest of the country as those 1000000 ballots were pouring in weve seen that lead being eaten away told now its gone in bidens favor but it has to be outside of a margin of error of north point 5 percent and it isnt at the moment so theres nothing controversial here this is whats written in law if those are the margins between the 2 candidates a recount is what has to be done but really this is a state that should have even been playing in this election its been solved a republican for decades bill clinton won it in 1992 as a democratic president ial nominee and thats a long time ago its been very republican since then but also in georgia there are a couple of key senatorial races going on they will be run offs in january and that could really change the balance of power in the congress so really all eyes on the state of georgia even though i cant bring you anything new as we know theres going to be a recount but that recount is potentially very important less so of course if pennsylvania nevada or arizona goes for joe biden but nonetheless georgia playing a very big role in this president ial election and if an hour many thanks and to get together for us talking about the state of georgia we can go to rob reynolds in los angeles hes been monitoring the races in arizona and nevada so bring us up to date with the count in arizona 1st. Well you know arizona is is extremely interesting state because for decades it has been a very strong republican state a red bastion in the southwest and but due to the kinds of demographic changes and generational changes that have been going on around the United States and in the state of arizona that is really no longer the case and that may be a sign of things to come for places like texas although it didnt obviously happen this year these inexorable demographic changes go on so right now after a new batch of votes was released from the city of yuma arizona joe biden leads donald trump by 38500. 00 votes this is not an enormous amount its not a huge number but if you look at it in context donald trump beat Hillary Clinton in arizona 4 years ago by 91200 votes arizona is due to put out another batch of votes in in a few hours but the thing is the President Trumps problem is that there are increasingly fewer and fewer places where he can get a lot of votes all of the Rural Counties that are mostly republican have reported so that the votes that are coming in are coming in from Maricopa County thats phoenix and its suburbs and that tends to go you know more than 50 percent sometimes much more than 50 percent. For joe biden so that thats an issue for for President Trump now lets move on to nevada the other state thats still in play there are joe bidens lead there has increased 223500 votes after a new trickle of votes from the slow counting state of nevada has come out there are still tens of thousands of ballots to be counted 94 percent of all the precincts have reported in. Now its interesting when were listening to patti culhane discussing the mayor of philadelphia with is a big boy pants comment which will probably be one of the more notable or memorable comments of this strange period of electoral politics that were going through right now but all across the country as the trumpet ministration or the campaign i should say has filed these lawsuits theyve been strongly refuted by virtually every. Campaign electoral official in all these states for example arizona the. Secretary of state katy hobbs said a few moments ago in an interview that there is absolutely no irregularities in the process that she has observed whatsoever in the vatican where the campaign has filed a lawsuit alleging that people who actually didnt live in the vada were allowed to vote in the vada the secretary the attorney general in that state aaron ford dismissed the action saying that the complaint is in a word garbage so nevada has 6 electoral votes arizona has 11 these votes are important of course so the whole process and every vote has to be counted as everyone has been. Proclaiming but in fact they may not matter that much if things in georgia and pennsylvania continue to move in joe bidens direction joe bidens going to speak later on tonight perhaps so well see how things turn out as the hours go on but reynolds many thanks speaking to us from los angeles. Well another race were keeping an eye on is the senate the upper house of Congress Control of this chamber hangs in the balance 2 right now the republicans the democrats are deadlocked with 48. 00 seats each 51 on needed for a majority the race for a season georgia is already set for a runoff in january and 3 others in georgia North Carolina and alaska remain on decided well back to the white house race and President Trump has prematurely declared victory several times now since election day while also alleging of voter fraud his remarks have driven some republicans to distance themselves from their partys candidate jeff flake former republican senator from arizona cold on Party Members to defend u. S. Elections and Democratic Institutions saying no republicans should be ok with the president s statements marylands republican governor larry hogan joined the condemnation of the president s comments tweeting there is no defense for the president s comments tonight undermining our democratic process america is counting the votes and we must respect the results as we always have before no election or person is more important than our democracy. But leading republican Lindsey Graham is standing by the president democracy depends upon parallel actions President Trumps teen is going to have a chance to make a case regarding. Voting irregularities they deserve a chance to make their case and will stand with the pros of trump your democrats are doing this and be cheered on. A spring in Barbara Perry shes president ial studies director at the university of virginia she joins us from Charlottesville Virginia as weve been hearing we dont have a conclusive results yet but it does appear that biden is edging towards victory what do you make of where we are today did you expect it to be this close. I think i did have we lived through 2000 election and bush v gore it had that same sense about it despite the polls that seem to indicate that joe biden might win by a landslide and of course in the end he probably will win by a landslide in the popular vote and its even possible as all of your correspondents have been pointing out in these reports should he sweep these last lets say 4 of these 5 states maybe all except for North Carolina should that happen he will have probably over 300 electoral votes and i should point out that was about the number john kennedy won in 1960 and he only won the popular vote by point one percent so you know it looks to me like biden is going to win if not by a landslide by comfortable margins possibly in both the popular vote new electoral vote but its the latter that matters the most but given the small margin of victory in some of the states what lessons you think can be learned from either of the parties. I think that they approached by did took this i did see it coming in a positive way for him was that the Democratic Party while it has a movement afoot of progressive young progressives particularly people of color in the Progressive Movement reforming Police Climate change advocates older socialists like Bernie Sanders but thats not where the United States is at the moment so i thought that more moderate approach that joe biden took was the one that would be the winning approach both for getting the nomination and possibly when any of the presidency and i hope that the lesson for the republicans is that a demagogue in the white houses is not the best thing for the party and its certainly not the best thing for the United States and its democracy but do you think they have to send accent to thank donald trump because youve seen how close a result saw do you think the bones of the Republican Party have changed as a result of President Trump it is now essentially a party of white noncollege educated people this is true i doubt that donald trump will be revered as a Ronald Reagan figure for example but youre absolutely right at least for the short run he has changed the very bones and marrow of the Republican Party and as long as they continue to see success republicans in the senate and the house as they did this time around then they will be reluctant i think to depart from that change of this demagoguery this approach to dividing the country ginning up anger there is a certain percentage and its a very High Percentage of americans who buy into that what do you think happened now weve seen donald trump at least for now resisting. In any way except saying the results as they stand at least will republicans be able to persuade trump to give up the fight did they even have to i dont think they will i think the President Trump has shown us over these 4 years that he doesnt allow cooler heads to prevail usually and that he wants to go out in a blaze of glory as he would see that so i think he will go out if he does in the end lose but fighting to the end with these court cases and i think that i could forsee for example that he not follow the more recent tradition of president s who are out going from the white house even incumbents riding in a limousine to the inauguration on capitol hill and sitting in the audience on the stage while the new president sworn in its hard for me to see him doing that i can see him leaving perhaps the night before marine one Helicopter Air force one to bands lots of glitter lots of flags much as he came back from the hospital back in september after he can interact and coated so its hard for me to say that hell follow any precedents on the way out should that be his fate because hes really followed none of them for these 4 years Barbara Perry really good to get your thoughts she is president ial studies directs the university of virginia minnesota. This is his era these are your top stories the race for the white house remains too close to call with the outcome resting on a few battleground states the democratic candidate joe biden has taken the lead in pennsylvania and georgia and nevada donald trump has made some gains in arizona but not enough u. S. House speaker democrats nancy pelosi is already describing bided as president elect and shes accused trump and his team of hurting the nation by denying the outcome this morning it is clear that the biden harris ticket will win the white house his election is historic propelled by the biggest vote ever in the history of our country 73800000 and counting americans
