of being held in a city square while a separate drop in supporting a new self-proclaimed prime minister was also held protesters forced the resignation of the government on tuesday the results of the election have since been. a list of look at the key players here kurdistan's president sort of in biogen because of insists he is in control of the country sadly as jeff put it all does the new prime minister protesters freed him from jail earlier this week the veteran politician had been serving an 11 and a half year jail term for kidnapping also freed on tuesday it was former president . he was close to president gen book off but they fell low to fall in the $27000.00 presidential election opposition groups have failed to agree on a common counted it so far but 2 of them say they will want together in a power sharing deal. well john stratford is live for us in charles 1st of all let's talk about those gunshots that we were talking about and here on what's the latest there. well things are considerably quiet say here now than they were a couple of hours ago indeed there were gunshots coming from the far right hand corner behind me in the square and there is video footage that has appeared that we cannot independently verify this seems to show a gunman indeed fahringer a gun now the incident happened during. a meeting of various different opposition supporters here in the square and it was pretty full at the time and it was a peaceful demonstration going on. around about a 100 yards to my left is the prime minister's office and over the last couple of days there have been supporters of the new prime minister gathering around there and the prime minister being. part of who supporters of his freed from jail. on monday he was 11 years jailed for taking that. he was voted to become the new prime minister in an emergency parliamentary session. a session that most of the opposition groups say was completely illegitimate because there weren't sufficient a number number of m.p.'s to participate in that vote however he says he is the legitimate prime minister and he says that there are what he describes as a council revolutionary forces trying to. move him out of his position and it was his supporters that came into the crowd there were some scuffles there were some started and some bottles thrown and pretty much the majority of the other protesters with the other opposition parties have left now we are effectively an hour away from the state of emergency taking starting and according to that state of emergency everybody. off the streets by then and we understand that the army has set up roadblocks to try and prevent. releasing the statement is saying was the potential for confrontation between rival groups and johnny this seems to be in the last 24 hours a lot of chopping and changing at the top in the government structure of the government and so on just talk us through what's been happening and how the opposition has been reacting to all of that. well interesting enough for the 1st time today we saw in public and heard from the former president who again was released by his supporters in the week. starts now besides. gave a speech and announced the coalition with another group of opposition parties he was highly critical of jeenbekov. interestingly there was no comment from him with respect to the new prime minister but it's another indication of just how factionalized if you like the opposition here. fundamentally the thing that everybody wants except the man behind me here and many more of them around the prime minister's office that's mr chip power of supporters everybody else wants an emergency session of parliament to be held a new cabinet to be voted in and a new prime minister to be voted in and the concern is that we are now seeing. really serious problems of a potential confrontation between mr supporters and other opposition groups here and we're led to believe that that is the big concern of the president who's announced the state of emergency but let's not forget that the president himself lacks any legitimacy with all the opposition groups here it is a very chaotic scene here and. a great sense of uncertainty yet again. this evening . charles stopford live for us from a very intensive bishkek in kurdistan charles thanks very much indeed. the united nations world food program has won the 2020 nobel peace prize for its efforts to combat hunger and food insecurity around the globe it's also being credited for its contribution to bettering conditions for peace in conflict zones the u.n. agency says winning the prestigious award is a proud moment and nothing short of a feat then no we nobel committee has decided to award the nobel peace prize for 2022 the world food program. for its efforts to hunger. for its contribution to bettering conditions for peace in conflict affected areas and for acting as a driving force in the effort to prevent the use of hunger as a weapon of war and conflict the world food program's chief says he's deeply humbled to receive the nobel peace prize david beasley says the award is an incredible recognition of the u.n. agencies work in more than 80 countries around the world i mean this is the 1st time in my life a bit speechless like this without a little talk about the most exciting point in time in your life is the nobel peace prize it is because of the w.t. family they're out there in the most difficult complex places on in the world where this war conflict climate extremes it doesn't matter they're out there and they deserve this award and wow wow wow wow thank you believe it when i spoke to jane howard the spokeswoman for the world food program she says the nobel peace prize is a great boost to the group's efforts to combat hunger in the midst of a pandemic. well it's been a really difficult year for us and i'd really like to start by saying we're just doing the homework the committee has on a world free program with with the peace prize because in the last few years what we've been saying is that sadly the fight to end hunger is being growing not to well the number of hungry people in the world has been rising not falling has it was before and not mainly to do with conflict they were also confronting the challenge of climate change and then if you can imagine on top of that this year with the impact of the coronavirus pandemic it had it's really changed the way we've worked the estimates of the number of people who are suffering and going to bed hungry every night you know with think you could jump 80 that so it's really really important i mean historic really for. the ultra program is not going to is ation that really has people out in the fields and the fact beyond that we're very much at the sharp end even with the coronavirus several of my colleagues in yemen who have died just in the course of doing their own work and i think that. that that recognition that we're having is absolutely. going to be a huge huge help in our work that we feel that the hungry people of world are not being forgotten because let's face it this is all about those people who are going to bed without eating those people who are actually on the edge of famine because there are several countries now where we are really quite concerned that the progress we've made it in the last couple of years has been reversed. well for more let's cross live to our diplomatic editor james bays at the united nations james we heard earlier on the spokeswoman for the nobel organization saying the world food program was being rewarded for being a driving force in efforts to prevent the use of hunger as a weapon of war and conflict this is the side of this that often gets to some degree or at least has been in the past overlooked the diplomatic leverage of fighting hunger. absolutely and of course there is as you heard the piece spokeswoman there say the added dimension of covert 19 this year i can tell you it's very secretive the nobel committee but when people are looking at a possible favorites for this one idea i think people thinking they might go for the was the world health organization that would have been a very controversial choice because it's there in the battle between the u.s. and china and the trumpet ministration is pulled out of it they have gone for another part of the u.n. family that has really been challenged in this year it's head mr beazley who you saw there he's currently visiting west africa he was in the king of france so where you saw that clip where he found out about the prize he was in. and he's now on his way to sudar and well they've really had a difficult year this year he himself got coded 19 early in the year and it's been a major logistical challenge to continue their work and increase their work as it's been needed this year to get to those that are most need most insecure around the world infrastructure and that's just sticks challenge in many ways because they rely on ships they rely on planes and of course there aren't as many of those that have been running in fact one observer said to me that if you look at the situation right now in africa because many of the commercial carriers aren't working the world whose health program so the world food program is probably the main airline now the biggest airline operating in africa so all that work is being rewarded. james thank you very much indeed that's our diplomatic editor james bays at the united nations. well one of the countries the world food program has been warning about is zimbabwe where it says more than 8000000 people won't have enough food if there isn't urgent help by december it's blaming recurring droughts and an economic crisis and the coronavirus pandemic has of course made things worse are the more tassel reports from national and west problems were impoverished communities are mostly affected. one head of cabbage some cooking oil a little bit of salt and about 3 cups of rice is all in mukherjee has left in her kitchen she says she'll have to make it last as long as possible to feed her family of 8. life is hard we don't have managed to eat there is nothing good about our situation we are barely surviving the un's world food program says more than 8000000 zimbabweans would not have enough food by december if there's not agent intervention that's roughly 60 percent of the population militarization of course something that affects mostly young children converting women in zimbabwe also it is a large number of people who are dealing with chronic illness of course their needs in a traditional needs are different from people who are otherwise healthy so it's very important that we keep an eye close eye on those in the current circumstances basic goods and now beyond the reach of many people growing you know food is not an option for some years of drought the economic crisis rising unemployment soaring inflation and now coronavirus of hit families hard millions across the country are struggling in bad light cities and rural areas. desperate families. eating less she has to feed 10 grandchildren her own kids either died or left the country to look for work. i can only hope my neighbors take pity on us and give us food even if it's their left overs we really don't know what we are going to do. zimbabwe's castro government gives food aid and a coke at 19 and now it's all about $20.00 a month to some vulnerable families local officials are worried. sick sometimes. it's the situation. back in the kitchen the children wait for frustrated they grab by the says she hopes to never have to say to them one day she has nothing to give them how to al-jazeera. province zimbabwe. patrick holden's the founding director of the sustainable food trust that's an organization working internationally to accelerate the transition towards more sustainable food systems and he's joining us on skype from lumberton and wells thank you very much indeed for giving us your time sir do you feel that given the fact that hunger is regrettably a constant on the planet that it sometimes gets lost in amongst the sporadic crises that build up. yes i do. like the leaders of the world food program creative i think we should all who by the incredible efforts that they are making to alleviate hunger in areas the world which i hope to watch 'd for one and highly dangerous to get access to and so welcome are these the world preprogramming or its employees very much in the right thinking in parallel with that it should be remembered that very often the conflict which makes the hunger problems much worse is it so precipitation by the great all of the problem in systems due to climate change is that so is that knowledge though and that in turn is due to the way in which are probably created on natural capital and destroyed the ecosystems which used to provide the populations that stable good and i think that if we look to so many of the countries where it got g.o.p.'s have 2 or 2 being syria comes to mind. all the recent interventions are probably connected in the long run with breakdown of sustainable crude systems and climate change so i think it's important that as well as treating the symptoms and getting these this food aid to the people who really need it today we will certainly think about how we can change our probably system to make them both secured sustainable for the future when you describe it like that it seems fairly clear certainly to somebody who's inexperienced in it like me but why is this not being done before. i think there's been a presumption which is prevail if you take a little bit of countries but the technologies the personalizes the chemicals and the high yields which we've achieved in the developed world are what is needed. to replace the reverse of the self-sufficient systems which i myself witnessed and something which you just because feature to be replaced by the license and they genetically modified seeds of all this high input type of approach and i think that reality those systems are not resilient climate change they tend to destroy soil and now that the world is covered with farms both large and small it's actually making the problems and so it's more sustainable and regenerative which is probably the key challenge which faces humanity at the present oh and let's not forget of course that as we were talking about earlier in the program hunger can be used as a weapon which is what the spokeswoman from the nobel committee said and that really becomes an issue when you're talking specifically about these conflict areas and as that yes it's absolutely right and so we need to be mindful about the real real terrible circumstances of these people and support and people are elite we aging there how good it is and recognize that it can often be used can be used as a weapon of war but at the same time we must be making sure we build more secure systems because they will have migration and we won't have these conflicts or at least not to the scale they exist at the moment patrick holden of sustainable food to trust we appreciate it sir thank you very much indeed thank you. plenty more ahead on the news hour including iran accuses the trumpet ministration of conspiring to starve its people as the u.s. imposes new sanctions on a rainy in banks. and the houston astros pollo their way into the next round of major league baseball's playoffs joe's going to have the action in sports. france's expressed hope a ceasefire can be agreed soon enough kornel caught a bug the foreign ministers of our own the media and as a by john heading to moscow for peace talks later on friday it's the latest effort to end the ongoing conflict over the disputed region the worst since the cease fire in 1904 mediators from the u.s. russia and france have also been holding talks in geneva to find a solution a media accuse us of the forces of shelling the historic holy savior cathedral in the golan okada back on thursday a media says several journalists were injured in the strikes that damaged pews and left rubble strewn across the floor button and smith is in the a median town of goldish with more details on the talks that are due to be held in moscow. both of these are off the back of the talks between russia france and the us in geneva on thursday and there are talks scheduled on monday in moscow again between russia. russia the u.s. and france where the armenian foreign minister is expect to be in attendance as a by john's foreign attend foreign minister was in geneva on thursday but clearly of the timea putin who's been calling for a cease fire for several days now as time has decided to sort of ramp things up hands this invite to both foreign ministers is there in armenia to go to moscow today it's not an invitation when inviting me putin invites former leaders or leaders members of the leadership team of former soviet republics to moscow it's not an invitation you turn down now on the ground fighting as lol the bits certainly on the armenian side step in aca it will have sustained bombing really from sunday in gathering in intensity through monday and tuesday much of the day much of the night and then started reducing slightly there is still bombardment going on and we know we've been told it's been going on this morning but to a much lesser extent but in the midst of all of that again on both sides on azerbaijani side and on their meeting inside the line of contact remains very tense and the human cost as they make these diplomatic efforts to a cease fire the human cost is increasing. so of course he also has been following developments from barda in azerbaijan. of course these diplomatic talks are held under the shade of the conflict of the fires from both sides targeting each other this tonight was relatively quiet compared to the last couple of days as several for piece of garbage on have been hit by artillery and rockets from coming from the going to iranian forces for instance yesterday. to civilians were killed dozens were injured and today we are in bear there close to attack their city which has been intense which has been under intense artillery strikes from the main inside since the conflict began and from time to time we are able to hear the artillery sounds again here the fight still continues from time to time it is the density the tension goes down but it is so there and. many people are displaced and there are volunteers and who are trying to gather some. food clothes for the i.d.p.'s the displaced people who came from our city and this is the situation on the. u.s. president donald trump is trying to arrange a campaign rally for saturday night in florida. says he's never completed his course of treatment for corona virus and the bones will be safe for him to resume public engagements the president is expected to take another covert $900.00 on friday his campaign appearances were perspire after he was hospitalized last week. thank you so the doctors today don't think i'm in great shape i mean great shape or you know test negative but i'll tell you this region around is phenomenal but i think i'm going to try doing a rally on saturday night if we can we have enough time to put it together but we want to do a rally and for our probably in florida on saturday night what we're doing is probably that cast will be tomorrow and the actual task is to don't really toast all the time but they found very little infection of virus if any had only that they found it and i didn't go into it greatly with the doctors but i will say it is absolutely is ok because absentee ballots. community absentee ballots are fine the speaker of the u.s. house of representatives is looking to introduce legislation that questions whether donald trump is fit to serve in office nancy pelosi says the trunk may be in an altered state and his judgment impaired because of the steroids he's been taking for covert 19 of those his move is being taken under the 25th amendment it's unlikely to succeed as it needs a majority vote in the republican controlled senate plus the support of the vice president or pollutions proposed bill relies on section 4 of the u.s. constitution's 25th amendment that allows for the president to be removed from office if the cabinet and the vice president consider him unfit to perform his duties it also says a body established by law and the vice president and declare in writing that the president is unfit to carry out his duties pelosi is office says the bill will happen sure effective and uninterrupted leadership in the highest office of the government ok let's go now to our white house correspondent kimberly holcomb is joining us from washington d.c. let's talk about the next few days for donald trump obviously the biggest question is going to going to be can you hold a rally and is he fit enough to do that. well the u.s. president has been for days trying to project normalcy from the white house even as he continues to recover from kofi at 19 as a result the u.s. president has been giving a number of interviews including the one where you played a clip just a moment ago and heard the president coughing and clearing his throat that happened several times as he called into fox news on thursday evening still the u.s. president is pressing forward he suggested he could be campaigning as early as this weekend we know he has something planned for monday in pennsylvania but in the midst of all of this he's doing a radio interview today and he has also just announced that he will be doing his 1st in person interview again with fox news on friday evening and as part of this interview he says that he will be having a medical evaluation not with his white house physician dr sean connelly but one of the regular doctors that appears on fox news it certainly does it is reminiscent of donald trump and his reality t.v. days but this is what the president plans to do as he believes that he needs to project this image that he has recovered now asked about this the press secretary kaylee back in 80 who also has covert 19 she said the president will be tested in advance and he will not if he is still contagious be doing anything to expose others can let's talk about this move by nancy pelosi and with the full section 4 of the 25th amendment it seems as though as as i understand it this is very unlikely to succeed what do you think is the motivation behind doing this. what clearly this is nancy pelosi flexing her political muscle as the woman who after the vice president mike pence would be next to succeed president trump should it be determined that a majority of congress a majority of a body such as this presidential commission she's trying to set up or even the cabinet of the president they if they deem to him is not mentally fit to be in office they could remove him so she's reminding people that she has that power but there is a question of the timing you're absolutely right i mean we're 3 weeks plus a few days from the u.s. election where american voters will have their say so it really does appear to be a political stunt and as you pointed out it's not like this hasn't been tried before and failed and we also saw them try to pitch the president that failed to do so again this is this is politics at its best in advance of a u.s. election governor thanks very much kelly hall from the white house well it's time worker sophie song and i arrived at the. place in front she was greeted by french president emmanuel that's crossed over to in the who's live for us in paris there had been rumors on several occasions before that sophie was going to be released now it has finally happened it must be a tremendous feeling for her family. yes what we saw in the tar tarmac of that airport just outside paris where the french president went to meet sophie petron and as she arrived in france was really a display of such roar and very moving human emotion a totally overshadowed the politics really. in this small in stature woman 75 years old walked down the steps of the plane and she was greeted by a man in the french president bush she soon turned to towards a group of relatives who were waiting there for her among them grandchildren and she just fell into their arms and they all hugged each other for a very very long time in fact the french president just kind of had to stand aside he had planned to make a speech but in the end there was such emotion and it was a real moment of reunion between this former hostage and her family that a man or decided not to make a speech in the end he put out a tweet instead only just saying you know welcome back to sophie. now she had spent nearly 4 years in captivity she was abducted in 2016 in december by armed groups in the northern city of galle where she had run an orphanage and she'd known molly very very well she had lived there for years and obviously she has said since that she she loves the country very much in fact she considers it in many ways a home and what's interesting is she said that once she's caught up with her family and friends here one of the things that she really wants to do is actually go back to mali and visit the children in the orphanage and resume some of her work there which i thank you very much that's natasha butler live for us. well mary bono is the president and c.e.o. of african international media group she's joining us on skype from paris and good to have you with us so in the last few days or so the african union we know just a few hours ago says that it's going to lift its suspension suspension of mali we've seen the hostages released we've seen a prisoner swap all of this i would imagine is going to be good news for the mali and government but in your perspective is it as good as they think it is. the problems santa gago ports this is a bridge that leads to nowhere in the leafy london suburbs it's supposed to connect it has become a symbol of political squabbling between local authorities and the government the daily commute resembles an obstacle course with children and parents of bumping into each other over railway lines through only woods with no social distancing. and if it's been
