Time for europe to come up with a new resettlement policy. Locked up for daring to protest against the better russian president we meet the women now determined to carry on their fight. Plus facing trial for marking a massacre some of hong kongs most prominent prodemocracy activists appear in course of a tenement square memorial. Its been described as a betrayal by the palestinians but is being trumpeted by the white house the United Arab Emirates and bahrain are about to sign a deal to normalize ties with israel its all being overseen by president i will trump in washington d. C. While protests have already been held in gaza and across the occupied west bank against that deal palestinians have described the move as a stab in the back correspondent need to him is in the west bank and well get reaction from the in just a few minutes but 1st lets go to our White House Correspondent can be how it can be any minute now to Foreign Ministers and a Prime Minister is supposed to be putting pen to paper. Right certainly there it appears that this is a little bit behind schedule in terms of the formal ceremony but all of the players now here at the white house for what is known as the Abraham Accords this is what this Administration Says is the beginning of. Peace agreements the formalisation of relations between israel and some of its arab neighbors namely rain also the u. A. E. But notable in the absence of any sort of framework for some sort of agreement between israel and the palestinians in fact i spoke to jason green blatt one of the chief negotiators an advisor to the president working on that issue he has blamed palestinian leadership for that saying that they had the opportunity to sit down and to talk but they dismissed the plan that was unveiled earlier this year now certainly when it comes to the palestinians they have a different point of view but that is sort of a glaring omission that is being noticed also here in washington even by members on the in the u. S. Congress now we should also point out that one of the other concerns in all of this is that there was never a state of war between israel and the United Arab Emirates or bahrain so the question becomes what is this Peace Agreement they say that in many ways this may not be a Peace Agreement instead of military apparatus in other words one that will allow for future weapons sales and that is certainly brought up concerns by many members of congress that this could lead to spur a new arms race so a lot of controversy surrounding this notable some of the guests that are here are in fact from the u. S. Congress but absent are a lot of the prominent democrats that you would expect to see as something that is historic and that just shows that there are concerns what the top democrat the u. S. House of representatives nancy pelosi has said is that this is just a distraction the president looking for a Foreign Policy when it events of the u. S. Election trying to detract from some of the negative headlines over his handling of the current virus crisis in the United States why did want to ask you about committee because the timing of this 49 days to the election president trying really needed a window we are also seeing protesters outside the white house. That. Right because this is a controversy old deal but in many ways the president looking for a Foreign Policy win one that could be fodder for Campaign Commercials as he tries to win reelection and of course this is a bit of a hammer and point for his rival joe biden the democratic president ial nominee they are continuing to criticize the president for his handling of covert 19 the Unemployment Rate in this country with the loss of jobs and the kind of me that is struggling so this is a president looking for a win but we should point out that so is the israeli Prime Minister who is also president having his own criticism of protest over his handling of proto virus not to mention his criminal charge so there 6 are some reasons for both leaders to look for some sort of photo op and distraction but what is notable in all of this is the fact that u. A. E. And buffering do not have the top leadership here again this is something i asked of jason green what he dismissed it as given the fact that theres a pandemic that that is not something but certainly when optics are so important in the middle east it is a glaring omission of president s can be how compare for us at the white house were staying across all of that for you here on out there thanks so much candy well lets now cross to me to abraham she joins us live from the occupied west bank as i can see the numbers of protesters that do appear to have been growing over the last few hours and i know their needs calls for a day of rage what have you been hearing from demonstrations. A lot of anger a lot of disappointment and betrayal is the word that many of them are using to describe these deals and according to a poll of an opinion poll that was released today there is a vast majority of palestinians that says that the palestinian leadership has lost its arab allies that this is a failure of the palestinian diplomacy and they feel that this has been a stab in the back so there are a lot of protests in the occupied west bank weve met some protesters here and. A lot and the message is clear they dont want anyone to speak on the palestinians behalf and they are very disappointed because they say they knew that some are states are having some sort of a relationship with the israelis behind closed doors but they didnt expect them to be normalizing publicly officially and declaring it specially at this time this is a time when the u. S. Administration has been trying to push forward the u. S. Mideast peace plan a plan that palestinians so d as as one that this regards all of their National Aspirations for a palestinian state so they see that the signing of these agreements with israel today as kind of an endorsement of the trump deal and they want the world to know that they are against it and they dont want any you want to be signing deals with israel on their behalf and they want they wanted us to know that this deal only serves israeli interests need or what have we been hearing from the palestinian leadership it does feel like this issue has brought a number of factions much closer together. Absolutely weve seen meetings between the palestinian leadership that included temasek and Islamic Jihad this these meetings we havent seen Something Like that for a while even. This sort of a unity feeling has brought. Many of the how mass the there are to the palestinian t. V. For an interview this is unprecedented and palestinians are saying that unity is the only way forward in light of. Losing the regional and the arab support but according to the poll that i was just talking about that was published today a vast majority more than 60 percent of palestinians do not believe that the unity is going to be the way forward for palestinians a lot of our seniors are trying to say that there is a lot of injustice that is happening and they want the world to stand on their side when it comes to it but they feel that they were left alone by the arab world theyre turning to their leadership for d unity but theyre not expecting much at this point neither one of the big concessions or the main concession that israel managed to get there was to delay potentially or suspend or cancel an expansion plans is there a sense in where youre standing that they feel that israel is going to keep their word. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has said that the us their plans were only put on hold and not to act to begin with but for many palestinians they would tell you that the israeli measures on the ground amount to an exaggeration but even if they dont announce it officially like the israeli measures of an air of confiscating lands of demolishing homes and all of the all of these measures that have been happening over the past years are continuing so for them even if israel doesnt and next areas of the occupied west Bank Officially a publicly they are moving forward with their plaids and with trying to push locals out to using different maneuvers different measures so really for them and excision was just putting thats kind of situation on the ground on a piece of paper meeting abraham for us in ramallah in the occupied west bank thanks so much neda. Well lets now go to heidi is. Standing outside the white house where they have been even more protests i do weve been seeing those numbers grow as well not everyone as clearly happy with this deal what have you been hearing from demonstrators there. Thats right and toss it a little bit hard for me to hear you because were here at a sort of a clash historic between my being rival ringrose the protesters palestinian american all right 50 of them from across the country to protest the signing of the steel which they called the trail and spoke with one of the protesters the man who drove from chicago and its nearly a 3rd of the steel beams signed he sent his quote brothers from the way he can crow about great work to train palestinians and then you have another protesters here who are going room israeli protesters and i also spoke with many who are pro trump calling him the greatest president of the u. S. As far as negotiating peace deals and as you see the tensions flaring between these 2 groups theres a lot of chanting theres no violence but there are Police Officers secret service trying to calm the temperature certainly this is not the mass protests of the thousands weve seen in the u. S. In weeks past but these are certainly bold call those who are close the deal chanting shame across the fence to the white house and the signing of the deal that is being undertaken at this moment heidi spoke about the deep sense of betrayal that palestinians there around you a feeling how do they feel about president all trumps role in office. Right now and the palestinian American Family that i spoke with said they supported the president s effort to negotiate. The peace deal they said they still have codes that palestinians may be included in what finally may be this socalled deal of the century but certainly up to this point they feel very discounted they feel that they are an afterthought certainly in solidarity with the mass protests that weve seen in the middle east over the steel as far as president of course the signing of this deal today not less than 2 months before the president ial election as my colleague Kimberly Halkett was saying is certainly no coincidence at the moment here spying as a win in the campaigning of President Trump the question though is how much the average American Voter even cares about what is happening here you can see the passion of course of these protesters behind me but if you look at the headlines on the u. S. Newspapers today this story about the signing of the steel its not even on the front page other on the website so certainly that is a bit telling about how much attention the average american is paying to all of this. Castro there with protesters outside the white House Keeping an eye on those clashes for us thanks so much heidi well lets now speak to the director of golf studies at the university and he joins us now on skype here. I want to ask you about the Practical Implications of all of this because bahrain already had ties to israel pretty open about them and the u. A. E. Also had links one of the the real implications of todays deal what will actually change. Nothing will be tamed simply you know what is the importance of having this relational time theres no benefit to the palestinians the israeli context is coming because of the palestinian cause any other countries want to have a relation with israel should be based on basically. Finding a solution to the palestinian across them so if that if this is not the outcome its obvious that you know its a sort of move toward coalition. It is more you know its about survival of this mess political mess around in the region where at least you know that of america was part of it and so i think it comes in a context where they are losing a lot of buttons there but themselves and especially in yemen in libya and they are trying to find basically victory and this applies on the yahoo supplies on. Donald trump all of those parties they are looking for short term victory and the real victim is the palestinian cause the palestinian rights much of how might all of this change dynamics in the cafes and especially ramya show her around. I think. Not to say that theres very literally to have a basis official basis to surround iran is the same scenario they did with janet previously where other big johnno back who were sent to. Quote unquote spy on iran and use that as a center to basically to get that information i think its all seem to be. Careful and when it comes to that because theyre already trying to build ties with iran and they try to have a balance they try to say that we can have an iraqi balance of the our Foreign Policy where we can have a relation with iran and so by what israel i think israel is the main reality to them is that on security i dont think so they are they have any concern about what they might use what i think they are worried about iran and they will try to capitalize on this kind of relations politically and security as well and much iran actually watching live pictures right now and israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu saying but the president trying to pass they just had a bilateral ahead of the signing what when the u. A. E. Said that they were going to normalize relations with israel there was plenty of speculation about who might be next and bahrain has jumped on who is next and on saudi arabia. To be honest i think its hard to say which comes it will be next i think well if the ladies id already got. To much it was not expected to have all of this in a matter of 29. 00 days you know they said the negotiation with a monarch is docked when you know the half would behind 29. 00 days so god knows the next country will be maybe 2 weeks so its obvious that you know there there was something already going on between some of the countries including you know a man we know that was in and must but i think other countries there would be more careful more cautious about whats happening there will be looking at what is the outcome now of this you know these kind of. Agreements between packs between medics and. I think there would be more sure monitoring the situation rather than jumping to the ship now. There is a consequence there is that a medication especially internally where most of the arab public are not happy with this and this shows them security challenge on nontariff show we could also have a very definite ministration of a task on january 20th do you see this as potentially an insurance policy for the various secretaries here to try to sail some deals before things potentially change. Actually with somebody doing actually putting the next administration if it is biden one in the real. I would say because of her situation because he cannot criticize these kind of agreements because the United States the stablish and american politics in favor of israel has peace with a neighboring country even without a country that is their own goal to see is a more secure and safe so even if they say now they are against it but reality its biden basically won the elections he has no choice but to support these agreements and to build on those agreements maybe he will change some of the i would say. Tactical changes but he will not be able to stop that kind of process i think some administration there were so smart of putting displeasure on the democrats if they won the elections if he won of course it will be another he will be have more victories in his list now this was supposed to be part of that deal of the century and we were hearing from our correspondents and even him and from the occupied west bank that that real true deep sense of betrayal on the palestinian side in your mind where does this now leave the Peace Process moving forward. To be honest i think i would say that these kind of agreements is. A death certificate of the century of the deal of the century because if the israelis was able to convince and maintain or build any kind of peace with the palestinians there were nuts rushed to the 2nd event with country life behind them but its the failure. When it comes to the deal of the century the failure to convince the palestinians the failure of you know of bringing any change under daily life but history has actually pushed them to that option because such e. G. Was was a clear he wanted. To make sure that palestinians are engaged that is the 1st step but a sinner rejected so the next step all the option b. Was to go direct to the arab countries who are born of an already this in mind the u. S. In 1992 when there was. A wait the arab political order was was weakened at the time United States jumped and pushed all arab countries to go to battle to. Spain and they have the peace conference at that time which basically was was the important chapter of the peace of resolute israel this is the same thing out of the spring was an ethic which the other political arab system our order is failing its falling apart that is that is gelati on most of the arab countries and that is the moment where the United States and israelis wanted basically to capitalism and to get as much as they can if the arab political order was better than you know it was im sure this would be not the situation you have egypt week you have so the idea that knows whats happening there you have iraq look at what happened in iraq you have syria all of those arab countries where they considered at the center of the. Because our borders they are basically falling apart but that is the moment what is only the american they do want to benefit from and put the bill and force parties to sign even though its all something they may not know what is the outcome of it on the cheap just looking at the israeli side of things how much of this was driven by ness and yahoos need for a win in terms of domestic politics i would argue it was they didnt hide it we were coming because netanyahu was trying to basically. Take the focus of the news and the criticism to Something Else he was always a promise that is what it is that you will bring you know peace he will force others to sign up to be scientists with with the israelis he was pushing for more settlements so i think that that this is a Great Service to the whole to actually to stay in power and win the election if there is an election next year months i think that is a good gift to him so he can actually add to his list another achievement where he can convince specially those who are very radical in the Israeli Society to vote for him and those parties will basically more radical to vote for him in future elections where either the director of the Gulf Study Center at Castle University always great to hear your thoughts on honestly i want to thank you for being with us pleasure. To let to remind us if you are just joining us we are waiting for the signing of a landmark deal between the u. A. E. Bahrain and israel to normalize ties at the white house all of that will be presided over by u. S. President donald trump we have seen protests outside both pro israel and anti israeli protest outside the white house as well as across the occupied west bank and gaza well be bringing you all the latest here on aljazeera. Moving on now and europes refugee crisis is a joint issue that needs a collective European Response thats according to the European Council president sean michel says the ear intends to make new proposals that will show a renewed commitment to tackle the issue has comments come as hundreds of refugees have now begun moving into a new tent city on the island of the last boss but around 12000 people remain homeless after europes largest refugee count. We need to take more european responsibilities and thats why the European Commission with major country proposals in principle next week in any case by the end of the month and it will be the responsibility of the Member States of the ministers are they to see that their governments to start agreeing a Strong Political dialogue in order to deliver in order to find solutions you know that we improve our tools it is not its not easy we know that its a very complex political debate if we were in the world and its also the same in europe but we need to progress we need to improve our approach. Our correspondent stephanie deck is at that you cant on this boss has this update. Weve seen a couple of more people coming to the camp today moving in because of the p. R. That the authorities here have done is 3 papers yesterday in all languages saying that the only way to ensure your safety and to give you food and shelter is for you to come to this camp and most importantly for them is that their papers will be processed only now if they are inside this compound they remain outside their asylum process will be put on hold its a fact that the morea refugee camp the biggest camp in europe the situation was was desperate yes you had schools and medical facilities but it was many disturb residents describe it as to what theyre saying they dont want to go from that kind of account to the same kind of the situation here also afraid that this time theyll be completely locked up in the sense that they did out or even a moment before before peronne and say that theyre not going to get it here people want to get off the island they want to take this opportunity that the fact that the campus burned down to get us off the island this is something that the locals here want as well in general theres a lot of frustration there is a lot of tension right now when it comes to the situation here when it comes to the refugee population and the local population but certainly the indications as of yet from the authorities here is that theyre not going to be leaving the island this camp is still being expanded because its still not a good old house 12000 people and interesting is well at the moment theyre coming willingly and theres not that many the greek minister of migration or said on Greek Television that its up to the state to ensure that everyone gets put into this common if theyre all going to come willingly and the police are going to have to get involved to put them there. Well Daniel Houghton is the director of life house reports thats an Investigative Journalism unit focused on immigration he says the new strategy on refugees doesnt work and needs a complete overhaul. Theres always been a clash between europe and its vision of itself and the human and human and fundamental rights and the reality of the thing counted by Asylum Seekers who have been prevented often by states who are who are preventing them from channeling and using almost barbaric means. And its also its meant that you use frontline states are essentially containment and warehousing areas a buffer zone if you will so thats likely to continue those those mechanisms will be flooded with even more money. And yet the whole thing will founder again on on what is exactly meant by solidarity and there will be some gestures made but actually any kind of mechanism that will that would that would mean that the number of people currently warehouse increase would be substantially reduced. And nobody really foresees that coming moria burnt down this week but mario was the centerpiece of it the terrence strategy from the European Union which fundamentally hasnt changed the political calculus in brussels and burley and elsewhere that led to a spectacularly squalid camping europes largest refugee camp that fundamental logic hasnt changed theres money available and there will be some nice words spoken. But at the end of that process greece will still be a buffer zone between. Refugees and migrants some of them in desperate trouble and feeling conflict and the rest of europe. Well still ahead here hang on aljazeera neighbors helping neighbors as communities along the u. S. Gulf coast prepare to death for hurricane season. And lining up to london millions of pakistani children head back to school the 1st time in 6 months. Hello thats a very cloudy picture across much of north asia you can see here on the satellite but not just clouds some very heavy rain yet again in the 4 calls now through wednesday will see some heavy downpours through Central China gradually working their way east was not a bad day across japan also across into the Korean Peninsula there will be the charles over some rain showers that again some very heavy rain working its way across the northeast of china that will continue these was on thursday and that is when the rain once again becomes very heavy through eastern sections of china just clipping the south of south korea and very heavy downpours again into Western Areas of japan so it could of course lead to some localized flooding i may have had a landslide sickles across into nepal the rain has been very heavy there the last few days on the still more very heavy rain in the 4 calls throughout wednesday and also extending once again into the northeast of india fairly widespread rains across much of bangladesh but really the heaviest downpours again through Central States of india out across towards maharashtra so a wet couple of days in mumbai to the north that 7 mostly clear we could just still see a listen on wednesday pops and thursday or 2 more shots into southern areas of pakistan but all the while those rain sits across the central and Western Areas so its another what day on thursday in mumbai. The new album the new the boss the heart. Beat. The same old india 10000000 children what in one day are the victims of trafficking in one day or other thats a large number they gave a big number on aljazeera. The and the the a. And again im just on the attainder thats remind you about top stories here this hour palestinians have been protesting against a deal to normalize ties between the United Arab Emirates and bahrain and israel it will be signed imminently at the white house palestinian leaders are calling the agreement a stab in the back. The Prime Minister of greece says its time for europe to change its refugee policy his country is struggling to cope after a fire destroyed a massive county housing 12000. 00 refugees hundreds have now begun moving into a new tent city. How more than 20 prodemocracy activists have appeared in a Hong Kong Court on charges over a vigil marking the 1989 chan and square massacre. Reports from hong kong where there are growing concerns about the freedom of speach. It was a familiar scene for many of those who arrived at court to hear the charges against them hong kongs most prominent prodemocracy activist have faced multiple charges over the past year over the many protests and events that been a part of the time theyre accused of joining organizing an illegal gathering on june 4th to mark the 1989 massacre in Tiananmen Square the maximum penalty is 5 years in prison was this year the vigil was banned by the government citing the corona Virus Outbreak but thousands of people went to Victoria Park where its been held for the past 3 decades to join them prompted event hong kong is the only place in china where the 1919 and square crackdown on democracy activists is commemorated so openly and in such large scale. One of the citys best known activists leach again is known for helping the dissidents from the time he also organized the 1st ever candlelight vigil in a year after the crackdown in beijing he remained defiant as he went into court we insist that point them in the kremlin basket go every year will become a lot if not all prat. Well you said there were there calls or where they express also a very fair or not every comment re doleful sacrifice the case has generated much interest its seen as here to another step in stripping away the citys freedoms and its putting pressure on activists like joshua long whos twice been jailed for leading antigovernment protests much of the days proceedings focused on the 2 people who did not attend the hearing and both of them are part of the activist or through a long split of. The the law fled to the United Kingdom just before beijing imposed its wide ranging National Security law on the territory on july 1st hes accused of violating the law on grounds of inciting secession and colluding with Foreign Forces while the prosecution stated that immigration records show that 24 year old sunny german has also left the city it was the basis for their request to ban all the other accused from traveling out of hong kong and it was denied. Along with concerns that rights and freedoms are slowly being stripped away is the fear that people in hong kong may never again be allowed to publicly remember the massacre in Tiananmen Square if you go pollan our desire of hong kong. Well mass detentions and valeries have so far failed to stop the weeks long protest movement there after nearly 800 people were detained in minsk last sunday the un commissioner for human rights condemned what she called the violent repression of Peaceful Demonstrations and corresponds to bassan spoke to some of the detainees have been released. And shes relatives are waiting for news at the a question or Detention Center where few weeks ago 103 port of being badly beaten and tortured 23 year old a marine colonel manco spent 2 nights here she was detained at the governments march last saturday together with dozens of others she says she was aggressive be thrown into a van intimidated and threatened. Considering myself a criminal at all i dont i dont think ive done anything bad so to get that kind of treatment is just. Its very nice seeing 18 year old i remember my was taken by mass Police Officers at the same rally standing with her arms locked with other women here in this video wearing sunglasses she was prayed with pepper spray and there were spraying these guests 2 women women who did nothing nothing except maybe flags and like. Posters but banners yes shortly after she was detained at rena managed to warn her parents who then started to look for her we were not miserable we knew that we are innocent that we stand for truth so we had nothing to fear we were 5 playing games guessing fios. Just really sitting and loving and. Im proud of him but i want her to finish her studies i have an operational ready and even more. But he realizes theres nothing that can stop his daughter instead of creating fear look at a strategy of mass detentions and intimidation to stop the protests seem so ive had the opposite effect even people who are released after being violently detained now say they are more determined to continue the protests families and friends of detainees point out that since the protests began last month and with plans to the disputed president ial election something is different in belarus because you know c. T. Hes feeling you have to support each other you know just we were getting really close after taking a rest ana maria sash she will join the protest again its makes me only angrier and. I just. Feel so much injustice in the system. Even after your treatment the experience you had here in the Detention Center you still go back to the stairs because they actually proof what youre trying to say. All the system is not working its highly unfair its highly illegal and i know that for these people for my parents for my brother. Who is to live there i. I know that. Its just a matter of time. After meeting these young women it becomes clear that even with. Office has already changed step fasten aljazeera. Now thousands of people who lost everything in sudans worst ever floods help a didnt start to arrive over the last few days but those affected say it hasnt been enough at least 100 people have been killed and thousands of homes are just the river nile has risen to record levels but as the water recedes theres also a threat of water borne diseases senegal is one of several west african countries thats battered by heavy rain the government is now facing criticism for failing to warn people to prepare for the floods half a large parts of the capital thousands of people there have been displaced from dhaka reports displaced in fighting the elements the rains took away their homes now its taking away their shelter inside. What she can. Thats all i have left fleeing the rains we had to leave our house behind we are devastated we have lost what feels like everything. 3 months worth of rainfall in a matter of 24 hours and because. Neighborhood into an island sinking is overflowing sewage with roads turned to reverse the area has become almost inaccessible most have left their homes stranded or few families like the braving disease infested waters to save their belongings from looters. We cant afford to pay rent anywhere else which you expect us to go we have no choice but to adapt to the situation. As early as february governments in west africa were warned by the un that this years rainy season would bring floods people were not alerted of the storms aljazeera has reached out to the cynically government and is awaiting their comment meanwhile the government announced it will release emergency funds to assist those displaced in 20 and 12 the government allocated more than 1000000000 dollars to tackle the problem of flood but people here are wondering what have they done with that money so far theyve used it for these tents for those that have been displaced but with intensifying rains people here appear that these are temporary solution to a long term problem. Whilst the mayor of como son in senegal says Climate Change is responsible for the destruction angry residents blame the state for its lack of planning. To sue feels like a bad dream the states must come and build a sewage system so that they can be an end to the floods with months to go before the end of the rainy season has no intention of returning home fearing of what is to come because hawke aljazeera the car. Well for those of you just joining us we are waiting right now for the signing of a landmark deal between bahrain the u. A. E. And israel to normalize ties youre watching live pictures now from the south lawn of the white house where that signing is meant to be very very imminent there running slightly behind showed you all there had been bilateral taking place behind closed doors President Trump meeting with israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu as well as the Foreign Ministers of bahrain and the u. A. E. You can see Vice President mike pence there in the foreground jarrad cushion who is the architects of this deal who is there with his wife ivanka trump all the palestinians have described it as a betrayal we have been seeing protests taking place around the white house even some clashes with some pro israeli supporters well lets now go to our White House Correspondent candy health at who is also on the south lawn of the white house can do we believe its set to happen any minute now but there have been this by the trolls was at always part of the plan. Yes it was always part of the plan the guests here the south lawn now set to take their seats the program to begin shortly as you pointed out of the oval the Prime Minister of israel along with the u. S. President meeting talking about this deal saying that they are very optimistic but notable also the fact that the palestinians are not present for this they are not part of this agreement it was something that was asked of both leaders u. S. President saying not only does he believe in the future there will be other nations which he did not name that would be included in this but he said that they are talking to the palestinians and they will be a part of this eventually this is a question i put to jason green but he was also a chief negotiator working on this issue he blamed the palestinian leadership for not being here today heres what he had to say. As a matter of fact i would love for the palestinians to come join but their leadership has 2 problems the 1st problem is there are 2 leaderships there are the terrorist thugs in iran funded in gaza who cause so much suffering to 2000000 palestinians and tremendous danger to israel unless and until they change their ways there is little hope of a Peace Agreement with all of the palestinians separately you have the leadership in ramallah who time and time again refused to engage refused to engage directly with israel their method is to go to the United Nations the European Union the road to peace is not through the United Nations can be very clearly some domestic issues that came both for israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu as well as President Trumpets 49 days now to the election and president desperate name needed a win. This is a welcome distraction for both the israeli leader and the u. S. President who are being hit hard in terms of criticisms over the handling of covert night tina add to that of course with the israeli leader his own criminal trial that is you know certainly those proceedings in play so these are welcome distractions at the same time there is a lot of criticism about this here in washington. Even particularly from some members of congress its notable that there are no prominent democrats present at this ceremony nancy pelosi calling it a distraction at one point shes just released ringback a statement as the leader of the house of representatives calling this an important day but also that congress will be scrutinizing this particularly when it comes to future arms deals particularly the sale of f. 35 to the United Arab Emirates and thats one of the concerns that is spurning an arms race kimberly what should we read into the Different Countries decided to send in israel has their Prime Minister that Benjamin Netanyahu but weve only seen the Foreign Ministers from the the in the 2 arab nations it is there a slight implied him. The well certainly thats a question i pose to the administration theyre denying theres any sort of slight speculation would have it that in fact this is on the part of the u. A. E. And bahrain an effort to play both sides depending on who wins the u. S. Election that may not necessarily be donald trump it could be his rival democratic president ial nominee joe biden so this could be viewed as governments and leadership playing it safe on the other hand when it comes to israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu there is no question that he is certainly paying a debt of gratitude if you will to the United States and is in many ways trying to help donald trump win a 2nd term one that israel would certainly benefit from given the fact that this is an administration that very early on decidedly put its sort of priority in the israeli side in terms of the negotiations between israel and the palestinians it has done that a number of ways whether it be moving the embassy from tel aviv to jerusalem whether it has made particular recognitions the argument for the palestinians has been that the u. S. Is no longer an impartial arbitrator questions would be whether it ever was but certainly there is no effort to try and appear impartial and candy i was asking our guest nigeria on the air around the fact that we could actually have a very Different Administration in the white house come the middle of january do you get the sense that this maybe both sides will all science in fact trying to seal a deal and get some things down on paper ahead of that potentially happening. You know im going to just pause for a 2nd with announcer that question just to give you a sense of whats happening here in the south lawn so that if you see things happening behind me you know its going on into my rights as i live in this way is the west wing of the white house and thats where the u. S. President i dont know if youve been able to pull up some of these pictures but apparently the u. S. President is standing just to my right so we are expecting him to kind of walk forward but there is a lot of media kind of running trying to get that shot its not clear the pathway the president s going to walk or who he is accompanied by its difficult for me to see but certainly he what im being told is that he is with be israeli leader Benjamin Netanyahu in fact yes i can see them there are standing in whats known as the colonnade right outside of the west wing and right now they are walking it appears towards the south lawn so not far from where im standing right now so this is certainly a signal that things are imminent theres a bit of a hash of paan the crowd theres no question that this is something the u. S. President wants in terms of a photo opportunity the opportunity to be seen with the israeli israeli leader you have to remember that a lot of americans are of jewish descent are practicing and would like to see donald trump reelected and so he needs to have this particular photo opportunity and that is one that hes hoping will play on the front pages in the newspapers moving forward but at the same time in terms of this abraham agreement as its being called or agreements this is not a big deal for most americans i can tell you that well theres a lot of International Attention the domestic attention not so great in fact its mostly foreign media here and in fact when you ask ordinary americans what the top priority would be it would be getting the economy back on track health care and the fact that so much of the country is still shut down as a result of coke at 19 so this is somewhat interesting the timing of all of this the fact that this is coming so close. The u. S. Election the u. S. President clearly looking for Foreign Policy wins trying to show that he has achieved something but again when you look at some of the promises the president made whether it be trying to achieve the deal of the century between israel the palestinians thats not happening the endless wars he promised to pull the United States out of also not happening there are still troops in iraq afghanistan and syria to just name a few of the places where there is a u. S. Footprint so again there is a lot of scrutiny a lot of confusion perhaps about some of the details of this would of course will be dissected once this is signed very much so i will can believe as you were saying we are seeing president along with some of the other dignitaries and israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu approach the south lawn there and there is 4 chairs set up with all the flags behind them ready for that signing ceremony and then and potentially some some statements afterwards you mentioned that that been there is some optimism potentially even some confidence that other countries may follow suit is there a sense of who might do. No there isnt in fact this was a question that was put directly to the u. S. President he always speaks in optimistic terms and this would be perhaps an example of that saying that in fact he believes there could be at least 5 different nations that are in discussions that could be joining on were expecting that there could be an announcement in these proceedings at the moment of potentially another country that is at least present but may not be signing today we are hearing that could be oman but at the same time the u. S. President has not specified who these other nations might be now again he was asked why the palestinians are not here he said well were talking to them and theyll be a part of it at the right time the feeling of this is that this is a framework for dialogue but again we know from one of the top negotiators the palestinian side saab erekat that he said this is not a framework for peace but instead is an agreement for a military apparatus one that could lead to potential weapons sales but in no way will bring any sort of peace or help the people who are trapped in gaza or even if this is the end of the blockade of qatar none of that is in this agreement so there are some glaring omissions even as the administration tries to tout what they see as a Foreign Policy success as well weve also seen Jared Kushner around there not far from here today ken lay and his wife ivanka i mentioned tyrant is very celebre toria having been very involved in this tale where does this leave his attempts at the deal of the century when does this name the Peace Process. Well. Time is running out right alexion is november 3rd and theres no guarantee that this administration is going to be back so in terms of those prospects it potentially is on hold and if they dont win the election it looks pretty bleak and we know from the democratic challenger joe biden that he views things very differently in terms of a solution in fact their approach would be much more inclusive of the palestinian concerns is what the democrats are saying and also its important to note that the u. S. Congress that democrats there are not particularly supportive of this particular event although nancy pelosi releasing a statement calling it important given the fact that they dont want to be seen in advance of an election giving donald trump any sort of win and you have to remember when it comes to the democrats that there are many is the progressive wing of the party which is further left many supporters of Bernie Sanders who feel that the way that the palestinians have been treated by the United States by israel is reprehensible is a human rights abuse and it can no way support any of what is happening or is condone it in any way so there are many members of congress that will not want to be for us here are not present at the same time there are some in the more moderate central part of the political spectrum who do see this is significant in terms of the marking but again its all about wording and the wording chosen is this is an important day not the historic one that the u. S. President is claiming can be how power White House Correspondent on the south lawn where he will be witnessing that signing imminently and well come back to have then thanks so much kelly but for now lets now go to media in britain our correspondent here is standing in the occupied west bank for us and need to how have the protests been going that theres been these calls for this day of rage how how solid is the anger on the streets that youre seeing today. Weve seen several protests in different cities in the occupied west bank one of them was here in just i was a while ago and a lot of problems to me as wanted to voice out their anger their disappointment some of them. Told us that even though they knew that there were some sort of relations between some of the arab countries and israel they did not expect that these are countries would be Going Forward with normalization publicly and officially and signing deals specifically at a time when the palestinian leadership is trying to push against the u. S. Mideast peace plan the palestinians have reiterated time and time again that they cannot accept the mideast peace plan it doesnt have any of it doesnt meet any of their aspirations for a future state when it comes to jerusalem when it comes to lads when it comes to different final status issues and why werent were talking about that let me remind our viewers that 27 years ago was the declaration of or the signing of the all slow agreements between the palestinians and israelis and that was supposed to be an interim agreement and there was a few there were a few final status issues that could be discussed later and palestinians had hoped then in 1903 that this agreement would push them closer to a palestinian state now they say they cant be further from a state when it comes to the regional situation when it comes to the arabs boasting that they are normalizing relations with israel and when it comes to the situation on the ground israel has been confiscating more lands using different maneuvers in different ways opposed to me and say only aims to push palestinians out and kind of consolidate and. Expand israel even in the occupied west bank so it is really a way that one of the worst times that the palestinian cause. Has been through according to many protesters weve met today in. Different cities and the message here is clear they dont want the arab states to be speaking on their behalf they dont want them to be signing deals with israel and and calling them as helping to a dialogue or helping their situation they say their situation on the ground cannot be worse and this is why the palestinian leadership has convened a meeting that was included that that have mass and Islamic Jihad would include it in and they want to say that unity is the only way forward for them let me just point out that according to polls many palestinians do not really feel that these unity and reconciliation efforts are going to mean one you know we are actually now saying president on trying to come out with. Israel the u. A. E. And ran a speaking thats a. Prime minister netanyahu of israel and mrs netanyahu thank you so much thank you sir. And foreign minister. Bends the. United. Arab emirates u. A. E. Thank you very much and foreign minister. See if. Any. Thank you. Thank you very much. Actually lies that the jews and arabs who are enemies and that. Mosque was under attack constantly they would say it was under attack these lies passed down from generation to generation field a vicious cycle of terror and violence that spread across the region and all over the world these agreements prove that the nations of the region are breaking free from the failed approaches of the past today signing sets history on a new course and there will be other countries very very soon that will follow these great leaders. The people of the middle east will no longer allow hatred of israel to be fomented as an excuse for radicalism or extremism so important and they will no longer allow the great destiny of their region to be denied. On my 1st foreign trip as president i had the honor of addressing the leaders of more than 54 arab and muslim nations in saudi arabia my message that day was very simple i urge the nations of the middle east to set aside their differences unite against the common enemy of civilization and Work Together toward the noble aims of security and prosperity i offered americas friendship i offered americas help but i said clearly that the nations of the regions had to decide what kind of a future they wanted for their children and for their families and for the nation itself no one could make that choice for them they had to do that themselves today the world sees that theyre choosing cooperation of a conflict friendship over empty prosperity over poverty and hope over despair they are choosing a future in which arabs and israelis muslims jews and christians can live together pray together and dream together side by side in Harmony Community in peace once again let me congratulate the people of israel the people of the United Arab Emirates and the people of the kingdom of bahrain god bless you all this is an incredible day for the world this is a cruel really wonderful and beautiful occasion i want to thank all of the members of congress for being here senators congressman congresswoman we just appreciate it so much everybody wanted to be here its a very important day for the world its a very important day for peace. Even realistic what was only dreamed of a few years ago is now achievable and we can see before us a golden opportunity for Peace Security and prosperity for our region let us together and with our International Partners were snow time and seizing it thank you thank. You. Well you have been listening there to representatives from the United Arab Emirates bahrain and israel all speak that to our countrys foreign minister and israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu this is all ahead of signing a deal to normalize ties with us on the south lawn of the white house and as you can see there over seen today by a very proud u. S. President donald trump donald trump has been describing today a signing of what theyre calling these Abraham Accords as the doors of a new middle east and President Trump congratulated all the different parties and he says that he is optimistic confident even that other countries will follow and then we heard israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu also saying that this could potentially end the arab israeli conflict once and for all still though the bahraini foreign minister insisting that there is the potential for a true state solution that this does take them one step closer however palestinians as weve been hearing from our correspondents in the west bank and then also in the protests in the crowd just outside the white house saying that they do feel like this is the end of any potential Peace Process between the arabs and the israelis in the middle east and that there is a deep and profound sense of betrayal and anger that this is taking place today it does look like theyre about to sit down and sign that deal. White house correspondent can be helped as theyre on the lawn with them and we will be speaking to you as this. One. Of the United Arab Emirates will sign a treaty of peace diplomatic relations and full normalization. They will each sign 3 copies one in english hebrew and arabic we kindly ask that all guests remain seated for the signing of the documents. Lets bring in our White House Correspondent kelly how that from a standing there watching all of this happen as it takes place live out and came to us saying only and this is being regarded as a really important moment but not necessarily a historic day oh talk us through the significance of what were saying right. I think its significant and certainly many people will argue that this is historic given the fact that this is. Sitting down one of the regional neighbors who have not sat down recently in front of the white house in this manner and so this is being heralded at least by the participants as historic and it was important to note that all of the leaders seem to call for departure of cynicism that they are trying to see this is the template for moving forward in the dawn of a new era of peace in the middle east now notable is the palestinians are not present in order also in terms of the Israeli Palestinian conflict but even that really are told in terms of the agreement it has prevented further annexation of Palestinian Land something that the foreign minister of u. A. E. Acknowledged risk particularly important and so whether hopefully this will allow for other arab neighbors who also normalize their relations so that is something good is being celebrated recognizing that there are so many other nations to join on to the so greenman but in terms of the message thats being sent i think its important to acknowledge that the israeli leader speaking in arabic at one point saying. This is certainly an acknowledgment an overture if you will of reaching out and they say its very important. That when we were speaking earlier you mentioned that there is more International Interest in whats happening today than perhaps domestic interest that average americans arent necessarily watching super closely what sort of reaction have we been seeing there especially in the lead up to this day which me we knew was going to resign today. Im sorry its a little bit distracting to hear what youre saying as im also hearing the loud speaker in my ear but what i can tell you is happening right now is of course the fact that they are in a very much momentous occasion all of these leaders side. These documents its important to know that they are being signed in 3 different languages in english. And also in arabic and that is really significant in terms of the partnership and this recognition that all of the people of abraham as you heard one of the speaker saying now able to move forward to bring stability and prosperity they say to the middle east also saying and bear that with the Abraham Accords and their signing that in fact all muslims will now be able to go to pray at all how exhaust of course the 3rd holiest site for islam and this is a significant achievement and also the fact that they feel that many. In the region were held back by old conflicts particularly the Younger Generation senior generation thats now trying to show an example set aside some of those conflicts to give the opportunities for not just prosperity but even scientific a few critics of the best from the brightest in the region regardless of religion regardless of language spoken will now have that opportunity. To me i was asking you and i know its very loud theyre just around the reaction that youve been seeing from the different political factions in the u. S. How would they regarding this. Well its notable that in the midst of this event actually taking place right now what theyre focusing on is not reaction at the moment itself that is what is taking place and certainly that is what will make it on to the Television Screens but theres no question with the coming hours that there will be reaction we know that there was some caution is often ism by the top house of representatives leader nancy pelosi who said that she felt this was an important day but also a day that congress will need to be nice in terms of future deals with regard to arm sales and in fact reno for the house deal in stinney and. Negotiator that info. Act im just trying to keep an eye about whats going on keep one ear as i talk to you that there is a fear that this isnt a sharing of an arms race and there certainly are going to be questions up potential sales of f. 35 fighter jets to the u. A. E. That is one thing that congress is watching very carefully but theres also concern that this in some way legitimises some of the concerns with respect to human rights and the contributions the u. A. E. Has played in the conflict with regard to yemen and u. S. Support for that conflict the saudi led conflict there which the course we know the United Nations has called a humanitarian disaster theres also the prodemocracy movement in the u. A. E. And whether or not the quashing of batch has somehow been legitimate given legitimacy in this deal so there is going to be a reflection in the coming days but certainly again these leaders asking that that cynicism be set aside so that they can focus on what they see as the future for the Younger Generations as heralded through this deal and a template for peace they hope that other arab nations will sign on to become very limited interest here on the grounds that there has been a lot of trouble economic consequence any time as well as the Practical Applications like being able to go and wash it out and there has been a lot of speculation around how this might change regional dynamics and a lot of of talk about how this really paints iran and the region as as the kind of neutral enemy of all the groups here how might this affect Foreign Policy Going Forward in the region for all these Different Countries. Well there some sort of sinister cynicism that in fact it doesnt change anything at all but this is really just a show of good fact posturing against iran already was it claimed that there were already informal exchanges in terms of a united concern about iran between the u. A. E. In israel as well as rain and the this is just an advance of the election an opportunity for allies that give the u. S. President a win that you might need on the Foreign Policy stage so many would argue that nothing has changed of course there are others there will view this as a provocation and thats certainly something that i could forward facing green glass in terms of how iran couldnt react and they said good ministrations sees it in their view get iran sees everything as a provocation and that that is no reason for them to move forward but certainly that is a concern the u. S. Congress in practically the subject of an upcoming hearing with respect to not only the weapons sales but how those will be utilized and the u. S. Role in iraq so you heard the leaders here today say that the u. S. Has a very firm quote currently live is one that should be recognized but again it is always as it has been in the past and will be in the future one that is controversy you can believe were seeing everyone on the balcony about looking very very happy indeed and take a President Trump looking very proud you mention the timing of this 49 days to the election can president trying to expect expect a boost from the. Its unlikely that the domestic audience is going to be paying much attention to this this really has more to do with the g. O. P. Politics and a realignment there but in terms of Foreign Policy circles in the United States and in the u. S. Congress that will certainly be recognized its something that the u. S. Can the u. S. President can put in his Campaign Commercials but again its not a focus of ordinary americans what theyre concerned about is the economy Kitchen Table issues like making sure theres a job that their children are safe to go back to school in the midst of a pandemic those are the issues that will be important but i again in terms of sort of the larger scope of creating a checklist of wins for this president certainly this is one that he will add whether or not this will win over any new voters is unclear but certainly it is something the u. S. President felt was important enough to put in advance of the u. S. Election as one of his in his view Foreign Policy achievements White House Correspondent ken lay how cut watching that event for us that very very land being signed on the south lawn of the white house thank you very much company. Wont just out scient the white house protesters who have gathered against the tail. Palestinian americans are calling it trace for us and they say they have left out of efforts towards peace. Castro is with those protesters there heidi we were saying competing protests. Emotions are clearly running high there. Thats right and youll notice the palestinian flag unfurled behind me namely the one flag missing from the ceremonies weve seen taking place within the white house and that really encapsulates the sense of betrayal the left side of these palestinian american protesters have been expressing to me they are few theres a few dozen people here theyre joined by some jewish allies and other allies but they certainly have been vocal now staging a press conference outside of the press house earlier they walked around the block kept at a wide berth from the proceedings there by police in secret service but there was a few moments of tense ricksha and when they encountered some road do you know. Counter protesters will hear from those folks in a moment the 1st this is what a man told me who is palestinian american drove here with his family from chicago thats a 12 hour drive to be here he said to their witness to this moment which he calls it the trail and a great disappointment. Its. With the palestinians. They deserve. To have their lives. To have to. Just go live these would be with us then have a problem. That is. Good with their lives i didnt vote for a minute into the 16 im definitely voting for him in 2020 because his arse upstairs. It is. The best for him was the president in generations. And that last protester the last voice a counter protester who was speaking out his newfound support for president as Kimberly Halkett was named that is just within 2 months of the us elections here may be part of that Campaign Strategy of President Trump at least hes won one new voter there but certainly on the minds of average americans here this is not been front page news here in the u. S. And whether or not this house move the needle as we near the election favor is still to be seen. Just outside the white house and washington d. C. For us thank you very much heidi while palestinians have also been protesting in gaza and the occupied west bank our correspondent everyone is there and joins us live from ramallah. Where. Mentioned the level of anger there have people been watching the signing take place. Not around me we didnt see people watching it and we didnt see people posting a lot on social media lately namely because many of them have been saying that this is not surprising that some arab states are normalizing with israel but they werent expecting that the timing of it would be so close to the american plan that this administration has been pushing for the u. S. Has been trying to get the palestinians to sign and to agree on a u. S. B. The speed splat which palestinians see as a plan that doesnt meet any of their aspirations for a future as the if you will the palestinians here feel that they were betrayed by the arabs they feel like this is a failure by the palestinian diplomacy and that the palestinian leadership has lost its regional and arab allies many officials have told us that these 2 agreements wouldnt have been signed today without the approval of the regional powers so they feel like they stand alone and many of the shells have said that this is the today considers that they consider today as the as a black day and that the death declaration of the Arab Peace Initiative which calls for the normalization between relations between israel and the arab states but only when israel and its occupation of the Palestinian Lands when needed we had the foreign minister today ahead of that signing thank israel for holding an extension of palestinian territories is there a belief on the ground there that they wont keep their promise and for how long. On the contrary for the palestinians they dont really care if there is an announcement of halting annexation because for them the israeli measures on the ground when it comes to house demolitions when it comes to annex in lands and trying to push palestinians out of their lands in the occupied west bank are still ongoing so even if israel has delayed its. Plans to annex parts of the occupied west Bank Business goes as usual when it comes to the actions of the Israeli Government in the occupied territory so for them really they didnt gain anything from the u. A. E. Yes deal with israel and they also said that the bahraini deal didnt give even anything not even kind of a statement to save face that they did that for the Palestinian People they dont want anyone to be taking credit or to give give them and to show that they did that for the palestinians they say we dont want anyone to speak on our behalf this is a message weve heard from many protesters and a whole lot today. This is clearly also brought a number of the palestinian factions much closer together has this helped with the unity that. There is definitely a move towards unity palestinians the palestinian leaders have been saying that they really have the way forward for them is to go in a word they really have no support among a lot of the arab countries that they were hoping that they would support them so they could organize their Leadership Meeting and it was attended by us and Islamic Jihad officials and they agreed to renew steps towards the palestinian reconciliation between namely between fatah had amassed but also between the occupied west bank and the gaza strip but its worth noting that palestinians who were interviewed in a poll released today there are around 60 and more than 60 percent of them do not believe that these reconciliation efforts will be fruitful namely because its been more than 13 years on the palestinian split then the palestinians are not. Had signed so many agreements to reconcile but they never did. Need abraham there for us in the occupied west bank my 1st i want to thank so much. I spoke to his director of the Gulf Studies Center of counseling in avastin and he explains why this alliance between the u. A. E. Bahrain and israel will not benefit the palestinian cause. What is the importance of having this in relations this time if there is no benefit to the palestinians the israeli context is coming because of the palestinian cause any out of countries wanted to have a relation with israel should be based on basically finding the solution to the palestinian question so if that if this is not the outcome its obvious that you know its a sort of move toward coalition its. More you know its about survival of this mess political mess around in the region where at least the United Arab Emirates was part of it and the plane as well so i think it comes in a context where they are losing a lot of buttons for themselves and especially in yemen in libya and they are trying to find basically victory and this applies and supplies on. Donald trump all of those parties they are looking for short term victory and the real victim is the palestinian cause the palestinian rights. Well moving on to some other news now and europes refugee crisis is a joint issue that needs a collective European Response thats according to the European Council President Shall michelle says the e. U. Intends to make new proposals that will show a renewed commitment to tackle the issue has comments come as hundreds of refugees have begun arriving into a new tent city on the greek island of the last boss around 12000 people remain homeless after europes largest refugee camp back but down. We need to take more european responsibilities and thats why the European Commission will make your country proposals in principle next week in any case by the end of the month and it will be the responsibility of the Member States of the ministers are they to see that their governments to start agreeing a Strong Political dialogue in order to deliver in order to find solutions you know that we improve our tools it is not its not easy we know that its a very complex political debate if we were in the world and you still feel the same in europe but we need to progress we need to improve our approach well our correspondent stephanie deca is at that new cap unless paulson has this update. And weve seen a couple of more people coming to the camp today moving in because of the p. R. That the authorities here of don issuing papers yesterday in all languages saying that the only way to ensure your safety and to give you food and shelter is for you to come to this camp and most importantly for them is that their papers will be processed only now if they are inside this compound they remain outside their asylum process will be put on hold its a fact that the morea refugee camp the biggest camp in europe the situation was was desperate yes you had schools and medical facilities but it was many disturb residents describe it as well so what theyre saying they dont want to go from with that kind of account to the same kind of the situation here theyre also afraid that this time theyll be completely locked up in the sense that they did out or even a moment before before peronne and say that theyre not going to get it here people want to get off the island they want to take this opportunity that the fact that the campus burned down to get us off the art and this is something that the locals here want as well in general theres a lot of frustration there is a lot of tension right now when it comes to the situation here when it comes to the refugee population and the local population but certainly the indications as of yet from the authorities here is that theyre not going to be leaving the island this camp is still being expanded because its the law to get all to house 12000 people and interesting is well at the moment theyre coming willingly and theres not that many the greek minister of migration or settle Greek Television that its up to the state to ensure that everyone gets put into this competition all going to come willingly and the police are going to have to get involved to put them there. Daniel houghton is the director of lighthouse reports thats an Investigative Journalism unit focused on immigration he says the new strategy on refugees doesnt walk and needs a complete overhaul. And nobody really foresees that coming morea burned down this week but mario was the centerpiece of it the terran strategy from the European Union which fundamentally hasnt changed the political calculus in brussels and burley and elsewhere that led to a spectacularly squalid camping europes largest refugee camp that fundamental logic hasnt changed theres money available and there will be some nice words spoken. But at the end of that process greece will still be a buffer zone between. Refugees and migrants some of them industrial trouble in flowing conflict and the rest of europe now reading on and more than 20 prodemocracy activists have appeared in a hong kong course on charges over a vigil marking the 1989 channel square massacre our correspondent upon reports from hong kong where there are growing concerns over the freedom of speach. One of the citys best known activists leach again is known for helping the dissidents from the time he also organized the 1st ever candlelight vigil in a year after the crackdown in beijing he remained defiant as he went into court we insist that point them in the premier market go every year will become the light if no prat. Well you said there were there called the right to express also a very fair monarchy and recall margaret told. The case has generated much interest its seen as here to another step in stripping away the citys freedoms and its putting pressure on activists like joshua wong whos twice been jailed for leading antigovernment protests much of the days proceedings focused on the 2 people who did not attend the hearing and both of them are part of the activist or through alongst Political Group the 3rd law fled to the United Kingdom just before beijing imposed its wide ranging National Security law on the territory on july 1st hes accused of violating the law on grounds of inciting secession and looting with Foreign Forces while the prosecution stated that immigration records show that 24 year old sunny german has also left the city it was the basis for their request to ban all the other accused from traveling out of hong kong and it was denied. Along with concerns that rights and freedoms are slowly being stripped away is the fear that people in hong kong may never again be allowed to publicly remember the massacre in Tiananmen Square if you go pollin our desire a home kong now the u.
