affairs politics and i've been closely following the pro-democracy protests. thank you so much tara let me let me just share this over with you and this is a statement that came in from the education minister just a couple of hours before the start of our show and he wanted to contribute to our show in some way this is the education minister in thailand he says we sympathize with many of the aims of the protest movement such as the need for constitutional reform but we must be realistic about the pace of our democrats' turn session which will take time tara you've been in the protests you've been reporting on the protests can you explain what the demonstrators what the protesters want that would potentially take so much time. right now the story there are 3 main demands for the pro-democracy protests which is to rewrite the constitution to disarm parliament and to for the authorities to stop harassing the people or critics so you know writing the constitution as off in the parliament that in itself might take a while especially because the parliament right now is set up with $250.00. appointed senators so how the lay of the land how the political system government works in thailand right now everyone is kind of play fair with people who are already on top so it might be a little difficult to challenge the current system and the current. you know groups that are in power given i'm just looking at pitches a some of the most recent protests when you see these young people in thailand some of them young some of the not so young what do you think what do you feel. well i mean s. i'm one who has campaigned for a long time for an open discussion of the issue and to see student today coming out for the same purpose of wanting for and where we form our very excited trio and i think this also showed at the sort of generational gap you know what you see on the street today in bangkok or elsewhere you know across the country are they our different from other precess so in many way i think. they have become more they have become more ambitious and you know that in thailand talking about issue of the would not be can be re dangerous so i mean my hartly go out for them for their career because i think to be aliased realistic if you want to change the political situation in thailand and then you have to talk about the most difficult issue of the country people who will be impacted are always the poorest of the country as in smaller cities and small businesses 'd won't be able to make money so the concentration of the government when it comes to could poor as i get it you titian social media is driving young people one equality for everyone they want to have opportunities for everyone they want social services for everyone they want they don't want it just for the establishment and what is the rich talking is that you have the well educated people question party of the establishment who don't want things to change and who are very well aware of inequalities of the country so that's why the fact that students are leading the way for change and the fact that students are in the streets calling for democracy and of free speech it's because they want a better future for themselves and they want everybody to be heard not only the rich ones not only the kids of rich ones not only the establishment they want everybody to hear be heard kids from the sound want to be heard kids from the south talking about the everyone who wanted to be there has been also wants to be heard he's leaning in ramallah i mean i think the state tried to be polite not to him to win but but i think in the discussion to the today i don't think we should do is track a bit since this is the bar or the direct request from the student you know for. we're not going to stopping there's a lot of slack cases there's a lot of below that all being misused you know name of national security to crack down on humorous activities and then right now when you look at all of equality and that's something that we cannot ignore there's a real inequality gap and they want a real chance you are a real democracy the real equality emily almost at the end of the show. i want to
