disaster. and sports schools 33 points to lead the los angeles clippers the dallas mavericks and into the next round of the n.b.a. playoffs. we begin this hour with the signing of a peace deal and ending nearly 20 years of conflict in sudan an agreement has been reached within the past hour between. and the transitional government neighboring south sudan mediated the deal and the morgan begins our coverage from. nearly a year after the start of talks to dance transitional government and the opposition coalition the sudanese revolutionary front are signing a peace deal the administration made ending conflict across an extent priority and it's hoped this will help achieve it in the same room from the bottom of the me we are glad that we managed to achieve a milestone regarding achieving peace in sudan we know there are other factions that say yes to sign and we hope there will be another ranch negotiate with these groups peace is the most important thing we have for the decisional period and without it all the talks about democratic concision economic developments is not possible so we see this as a 1st step has advanced incision leading up to this deal agreements have been signed by other groups that make up the sudanese revolutionary front each are presenting a different region in sudan the groups some armed oppose the previous government of ahmed bashir who was overthrown in april last year they say their regions have long been marginalized the new deal will give a role in the transitional government and hand over more power to local governments it also paves the way for the formation of a transitional legislative assembly the deal mediated by south sudan would also restarts the dance of 39 month transitional period imo we affirm the commitment of south sudan and sudan's journey to peace because sudan peace is south sudan's peace there are still 2 more groups that are yet to sign a deal and we will continue on the issue of peace until there is a comprehensive peace in sudan we don't want any more war in dar for negotiations to end the conflict in the western region of darfur has taken the longest the war there began in 2003 and has resulted in the deaths of 300000 people and the displacement of 2000000 the forces of the armed groups will be integrated into the sudanese army reparations will be paid to those affected by the conflict and those displaced will be allowed to return home. we've been in these came since 2004 we want the conflict in so we can go back to our. home but we've not been properly consulted on the deal that's taking place all represented and so we can say it may not hold. the deal is not the 1st attempt at peace in sudan's conflict zones but sudan's transitional government and the sudanese revolutionary front say this time there's a political will to make it last. we'll have a mortgage is live for us now in cuts what more can you tell us about the state i'm thinking particularly about what the various groups and wanted versus what they actually got. well came the negotiations to the peace deal that is being signed right now in the south sudanese capital juba took about 10 months to reach now for the for the transitional government to be able to reach these deal with the various groups that are involved in this negotiation they have to divide it into various tracks that's because not all the members of the sudanese revolutionary front which is signing the deal are armed and most of them have different different grievances and different demands we have groups that represent the northern and central part of the country they were calling or demanding for economic representation and saying that they wanted more shares in the government and in the wealth that comes out of their states that's what they got out of the deal now there are 2 areas and southward to find these are areas that were supposed to have a popular consultation as for previous be the bill that was signed in 2005 they were supposed to decide upon south sudan's independence whether they wanted to be part of south sudan or be part of sudan now that didn't happen and it resulted in the breakout of another civil war for sudan in 2011 where they got out of this deal is that they will be granted self autonomy and the the wealth that comes from those 2 states south kordofan and blue nile will be shared between the government and the local government between the federal government and the local government as for the darfur groups they've been demanding reparations and they've been demanding more economic development and more wealth being shared between them and the federal government that is something they got as well as their armies or their armed groups being integrated into the national army throughout the transitional period which is set to restart with this deal now being signed so it looks like most of them got most of what they wanted the negotiations has been very complicated it has helped it several times between the groups and the government but it looks for now that they say that they're set to start a new transitional period and a new face and open a chapter that is of peace sounds like a real mammoth task just even getting to this point what happens next. now what happens next kim is for these groups to come back to haunt so let's remember that most of them most of these members of the armed groups have been out of sudan since the war broke out in darfur and the war in blue nile states and south kordofan so many of those members have not seen the city have not set foot in sudan for a long time or have not seen the capital hot soon because as for the deal there will be reconfiguration of this transitional government and the sovereign council will be expanded as well as armed groups getting representation in the federal in the ministries and in the legislative assembly will be seeing members of those armed groups coming back to haunt them but before that we will be a we're expecting to hear an announcement from the head of the sovereign council of that for the han who is right now attending the peace deal in juba the signing of the peace deal in juba we're expecting him to announce a pardon on those members of the armed groups because most of them have been persecuted by the government so we will be expecting to hear an announcement of a pardon for those members of the armed groups to pave way for them to be able to come to her tomb and start taking up positions in the suffering council and the council of ministers and will start seeing consultations between the armed groups and the forces of freedom and change in terms of how this legislative assembly the transitional assembly which has been put on hold for a long time will be formed ok thank you for that tedham ogunleye for us in the call to move. let's turn now to lebanon where political leaders are meeting in beirut right now to discuss the appointment of a new prime minister the lebanese ambassador to germany stuff looks like to get the job he's won support from several parties including the future movement and the shia block his pull up. could be all political factions are aware in order to achieve this goal and bring our country back on track the upcoming government must be formed from among professionals with proven expertise efficiency and integrity such a government must be formed swiftly and present its plans at the earliest all political factions have declared their readiness to fully cooperate with such a government in order for the aspired reforms to be implemented swiftly across one and then when i was standing by there for us in beirut the 1st let's take a look at how we got to this point lebanon has been looking for new leadership after its government resigned on august the 10th prime minister made the announcement after a string of ministers stepped down they were pressured to quit after amounting anger of the huge explosion in beirut just days earlier the blast was caused after nearly $3000.00 tons of ammonium nitrate exploded at the city's port many blame the country's leaders for the devastation saying it was the result of negligence and corruption tens of thousands of people have protested demanding political change lebanon was already struggling with its worst economic crisis in decades and a collapsing currency let's go now to. tell us how most of our there has managed to garner this support how its name is managed to rise to the top. well like you mentioned most of the guard during the majority of the vote parliamentarian said emerged last night that there was a political deal among the different factions in lebanon a divided political landscape he was a little known figure and ambassador to germany and then his name appeared almost really last minute as a surprise leading many to believe that there was some sort of outside pressure that led to this this man diplomats who was one university professor he also was an advisor to a former prime minister to now become the head of the next cabinet what we understand is that france which really has been a main power broker in the political crisis the french president is returning later tonight it will be his 2nd visit to bay within less than a month he arrived just 2 days after the beirut 4th explosion he called for a change he put forward a new political initiative so there's many who believe that france really played a role in bringing 11 on different factions together factions really will have little choice at this point in time because that country is thinking this state this close to collapse and it needs the support of the international community in particular financial support but it's a tough. announced as the next prime minister and we are standing by for that announcement what happens from there. he's going to have to form a new government which will then receive the vote of confidence in the parliament but he's facing really a lot of challenges we mentioned the dire state of the economy talks with the international monetary fund have stalled the previous government on able to make any progress because the political establishment who appointed either or the previous prime minister has said they are reluctant to carry out reforms and to fight corruption in the state because it would automatically mean their interests are threatened because they benefit from the state's resources so they're going to have to show seriousness that they're ready to fight corruption in order to unlock billions of dollars in aid beirut also needs to be rebuilt many of the city's neighborhoods were destroyed or damaged in that port explosion some people do not have much hope that there will be change but others believe that this time around the political class knows if they do not make any concessions then they will lose the country and they will they will rule over a destroyed country which really means they have no power and no influence. so i want to thank you for that live from the roots well name salim is a professor of international affairs and diplomacy it melted on university in lebanon he joins us live from beirut by scott thank you for your time and correct me if i'm wrong but when i was on dia came and he too was apparently a little known figure in academic who apparently failed to implement the change that people were asking for will mustafa be able to succeed where has failed. well. the previous prime minister. was brought by me to be a ship by the forces of marsh. that. generated a good deed awful position by. march 14th led by mr. 11 on and so out that 8 months in which. dr was prime minister and now it's. got a government that has been a great deal of shock and take and take this as an opposition to his cabinet and his route as it were for when the huge explosion which took place in the sea port of beirut and i miss it is and destruction which goes it it. became just through which broke as a comet is back in force it is this big catastrophe destroying about. to one degree or another. straw that broke. its back and was attempting to resign not because. had any singalong with him sent but the 2nd stance is. not international did not help him at all now that has a quite a bit of difference between so the choice of mr dr mostafa and. dr did not that will stop plenty of times of traumatic back in don't also have the academic that could go on and it has been 11 of them better to do it many to berlin for the past 67 it. is a difference how it is that the. it is a kind of positive attitude or positive. new a ship off the dock that will stop at the end as bit by one by one is a majority of the groups anybody can mark 8 ounces and 11 as that it said represent a positive push for mr adie to head to government and probably a successful government without hoping now that the next period 11 oms will. take the company toward more stability but to complete that it has been kind of a consensus among that letter is the battery was dead but he's a group and this would be affected by that on some patients that are being undertaken by the president of the republic general to be shown it is unclear if that's an absolute majority of supplement that again will vote for dr must. in addition it is also support putting a support outside support for the premier ship of the idea by friends who want to be honest by saying my kid states because clearly that united states has given it or has given it the way for france to undertake a major role for the next lebanon but if it has had to put itself on the sideline for many years and never want but as we know france was not only on about what it meant meant date the but what about 11 on more than one the invite and actually as we know the french i don't own so on his way back to lebanon now i will have to leave it at the time thank you so much for analysis names on
