In my Life Experience of every other country has shown its the only way to defeat the coronavirus the most vicious threat this country has faced in my lifetime and though the death toll has been tragic and the suffering in metz and though we grieve for all those we have lost it is a fact that by adopting those measures we prevented this country from being engulfed by what could have been a catastrophe in which the reasonable worst Case Scenario was half a 1000000 fatalities. And its thanks to your effort and sacrifice in stopping the spread of this disease that the death rate is coming down and hospital admissions are coming down and thanks to you we protected our n. H. S. And saved many thousands of lives and so i know you know that it would be madness not to throw away that achievement by allowing a 2nd spike we must stay alert we must continue to control the virus and save lives and we must also recognize that this campaign against the virus has come that colossal cost to our way of life we can see all around us in the shuttered shops and abandoned businesses and darkened pubs and restaurants and there are millions of people who are both fearful of this terrible disease and at the same time also fearful of what this long period of enforced in activity will do to their livelihoods and their mental and physical wellbeing to their futures and the futures of their children so i want to provide tonight for you the shape of the plan to address both fears both to beat the virus and provide the 1st sketch of a roadmap for a reopening society a sense of the way ahead and when and how and on what basis we will take the decisions to proceed ill be sitting out more details in Parliament Tomorrow and taking questions from the public in the evening i consulted across the political spectrum across all 4 nations of the u. K. And though different parts of the country are experiencing the pandemic at different rates and though its right to be flexible in our response i believe that as Prime Minister of the United Kingdom scotland England Wales Northern Ireland there is a strong resolve to defeat this together and today a general consensus on what we could do and i stress could because although we have a plan it is a conditional plan and since our priority is to protect the public and save lives we cannot move forward unless we satisfy the 5 tests we must protect our n. H. S. We must see sustained falls in the death rate we must see sustained and considerable falls in the rate of infection we must sort out our challenges in getting enough people to the people who needed and yes its a global problem but we must fix it and last we must make sure that any measures we take do not force the reproduction rate of the disease the are back up over one so that we have the kind of exponential growth we were facing a few weeks ago and to chart our progress and to avoid going back to square one where establishing a new alert system run by a new joint bio Security Center and that could lead alert level will be determined primarily by our on the number of coronavirus cases and in turn that could be the look level will tell us how tough we have to be in our social distancing measures the lower the level the fewer the measures the higher the level the tougher and stricter we will have to be. Theyll be fine alert levels level one means the disease is no longer present in the u. K. And level 5 is the most critical the kind of situation we could have had if the n. H. S. Had been overwhelmed over the period of the lockdown weve been in level 4 and its thanks to your sacrifice were now in a position to begin to move in steps to level 3 and as we go everyone will have a role to play in keeping the are done by staying alert and following the rules and to keep pushing the number of infections down there are 2 more things we must do we must reverse rapidly the awful epidemics in care homes and in the n. H. S. And though the numbers are coming down sharply now there is plainly much more to be done and if were to control this virus then we must have a world beating system for testing potential victims and for tracing their contacts so that all told we are testing literally hundreds of thousands of people every day weve made fast progress on testing but there is so much more to do now and we can when this began we hadnt seen this disease before and we didnt fully understand its affects with every day were getting more and more data where shining the light of science on this invisible killer and we will pick it up where it strikes because our new system movie able in time to detect local flare ups in your area as well as giving us a national picture. And yet when i look at where we are tonight we have the are below one between point 5 and point 9 but potentially only just below one and though we have made progress in satisfying at least some of the conditions i have given we have by no means fulfill all of them and so no this is not the time simply to end the lockdown this week instead were taking the 1st careful steps to modify our measures and the 1st step is a change of emphasis that we hope that people will act on this week. We said that you should work from home if you can only go to work if you must we now need to stress that anyone who cant work from home for instance those in construction or manufacturing should be actively encouraged to go to work and we want it to be safe for you to get to work so you should avoid public transport if a tool possible because we must and will maintain social distancing and capacity will therefore be limited so work from home if you can but you should go to work if you cant work from home and to ensure you are safe at work weve been working to establish new guidance for employers to make workplaces coded secure and when you do go to work if possible do so by car or even better by walking or bicycle. But just as with workplaces public transport operators will also be following coded secure stand its and from this wednesday we want to encourage people to take more and even unlimited amounts of an outdoor exercise you can sit in the sun in your local park you can drive to other destinations you can even play sports only with members of your own house you must obey the rules on social distancing in to enforce those rules we will increase the fines for the small minority who break them and so every day with ever increasing data we will be monitoring the r. And the number of new infections and the progress were making and if we as a nation begin to fulfill the conditions i have set out there in the next few weeks and months we may be able to go further in step 2 at the earliest by june the 1st after half term we believe we may be in a position to begin the phased reopening of shops and to get primary peoples back into schools in stages beginning with reception year one and yes it is our ambition is that 2nd 3 people facing exams next year will get at least some time with their teachers before the holidays and more shortly be setting out detailed guidance on how to make it work in schools and shops and on transport and step 3 at the earliest by july and subject to all these conditions and further scientific advice if and only if the number supported we will hope to reopen at least some of the Hospitality Industry and other Public Places provided theyre safe and in force social distancing. Throughout this period of the next 2 months we will be driven not by mere hope or economic necessity were going to be driven by the science the data and Public Health and i must stress again that all of this is conditional it all depends on a series of big ifs it depends on all of us the entire country to follow the advice to observe social distancing and to keep that are done and to prevent reinfection from abroad im serving notice that it will soon be the time with transmission significantly lower to impose on people coming into this country by air and its because of your efforts to get the are down in the number of infections down here that this measure will now be affected and of course well be monitoring our progress locally regionally and nationally and if there are outbreaks if there are problems we will not hesitate to put on the brakes weve been through the initial peak but its coming down the mountain that is often more dangerous we have a route and we have a plan and everyone in government has the all consuming pressure and challenge to save lives restore livelihoods and gradually restore the freedoms that we need. But in the end this is a plan that everyone must make work and when i look at what youve done already the patience and common sense youve shown the fortitude of the elderly whose isolation we all want to end as fast as we can the incredible bravery and hard work of rock and h. S. Staff our care workers the devotion and selfsacrifice of all those in every walk of life who are helping us to beat this disease police bus drivers praying drivers pharmacies supermarket workers road hauliers been collected cleaners security guards postal workers are teachers and a 1000 more the scientists who are working round the clock to find a vaccine when i think of the millions of every day acts of kindness and thoughtfulness that are being performed across this country and that have helped to get us through this 1st phase i know that we can use this plan to get us through the next and if we cant do it by those dates and if the alert level wont allow it we will simply wait and go on until weve got it right we will come back from this devilish illness we will come back to health and Robust Health and then the u. K. Will be changed by this experience i believe we can be stronger and better than ever before more resilient more innovative more economically dynamic but also more generous and more sharing but for now. We must stay alert control of our us and save lives thank you very much. Youre watching our dizzier that was the u. K. Prime minister baraks johnson giving an update on the situation with regards to lock down and other conditions in connection with the covert 19 spread in the United Kingdom setting out a conditional plan for the what he called the next phase of the fight against covert 19 but for anybody looking for an immediate end to the lockdown no good news there he said there would be no immediate end to the lockdown he said it would be madness to throw away any achievement by a lowering a 2nd spike i want to bring in paul brennan whos been monitoring this for us in london and paul overall the tone of the message seemed to be somewhat cautious to me what did you take away from it. All i think i mean this was a keenly anticipated television address from the u. K. Prime minister you know weve known 3 days ago that he was going to make it and as a result of that delay between announcements and the actual address itself has been feverish speculation as to what it might contain including for example that mention from saturday off a 14 day koran seen on Airline Passengers arriving in the u. K. In fact during the speech itself it really only got a very cursory mention and with no specifics as far as time you know the 14 days that wasnt mentioned at all. It was also evident in the days leading up to today that would be a dampening down of expectations as far as details go and i think thats what we saw from the Prime Ministers address that very very heavily conditional on a whole range of different aspects primarily though that critical on them but that is the the the infectious rate and if you can keep it below one it means that the number of infections is going to keep declining if it goes above one it means that the infections are rising and rising exponentially and the risk of a 2nd spike becomes. Very real so you look at what he said me the most vicious threat this country has faced in my lifetime we must continue to control the virus he did not that the campaign against the virus has come at a colossal cost to our way of life and he said for example it will need testing literally hundreds of thousands of people a day in order to get on top of this now that in itself raises questions because the government set itself a target of testing 100000. 00 people a day by the end of april it only got to that target many people believe by essentially cooking the books counting tests which have been put in the post not necessarily actually conducted and since that date they havent got anywhere near 100000 tests a day so to hear the Prime Minister talk about needing literally hundreds of thousands a day it makes you wonder what how realistic we are or how close we are to achieving that kind of level of testing that said it will be. Music to the ears of some people in the sense of its a glimmer of hope but as he said it is a 1st sketch of a roadmap and not a clear step by step definition a lot of it is very very conditional. Paul paul brennan live for us in london paul thanks very much indeed i want to bring in Chris Kevin Craig hes the chief executive officer of p l m r its a leading Political Communications agency in the United Kingdom hes joining us and skype from london we appreciate your time so thank you very much indeed one of the recurring criticisms that this government has faced is that the messaging has been mixed and theres more criticism because its changed its latest message on covert 19 from stay at home to stay secure stay alert why do you think they have decided to change that message at this time. Well there has been enormous pressure pressure on the government to try and indicate when the british economy is going to encounter better times at the same time there is equal pressure back from a Prime Minister only a few weeks ago nearly lost his life and we now have a very challenging problem i think for the government in that the the messages from the government in england on health are very different and less are less strong are weaker than the messages coming out of the governments in Northern Ireland scotland and wales and one of the reasons why the retransmission rate has reduced so successfully over the past weeks is there was a slogan that instructed us stay at home protect the n. H. S. And you will save lives and i think now that this message today from the Prime Minister i mean everybody wants the government succeed at this but the challenge is its less clear now what exactly the message is what do you think that theyre trying to achieve the government is trying to achieve by changing the message at this point but using this particular wording. Well theyre trying to help the economy start to recover i mean we we had news from the bank of england here in recent days of the historic challenges facing our economy a 300 year situation in terms of the severity of the recession and the government is trying to move us forward but the problem today is that the governments in scotland wales and Northern Ireland they dont share this changing of message they would have had the message stay the say stay at home protect our National Health service save lives and a new message stay alert robert communications it doesnt really mean anything theres no instruction in the same way as the last message and i think you saw in the Prime Ministers speech just now how the government has had to come back from some of the things they were thinking of doing earlier in the week because theyre just sure all about how to get this right and i weve already seen today in the United Kingdom there is going to be a lot of uncertainty and theres a lack of clarity about what it sees the government want people to do they should really ive just found different wording to try to navigate these next 2 or 3 weeks i want to ask you about this new alert sequence that the Prime Minister was talking about as well where one essentially the bottom line is that theres no covered in the u. K. And 5 is that the n. H. S. Is close to or is or overloaded and it was this mathematical very simple mathematical system of our plus the number of cases in terms of again the clarity of message across the u. K. Given as you say scotland wales Northern Ireland are doing their own thing is this actually going to mean anything to anybody. Well to be actually fair to the Prime Minister i think this regional approach is very clever i can assure you seeing the streets of london in the last quarter to 8 hours. It is a very very very picture in some places across the capital city yesterday you would have been hard pressed to think there was a crisis on top people had been led to believe by the Media Coverage that the situation was much better than the Prime Ministers speech is conveyed just now so i think its very sensible given the immense different cities infection and cope bit rates across the country that there is this system it makes sense because at the moment quite frankly if you live in the east of england you are at a statistic the much lower risk that you have been in london only you are currently in the midlands and up north so that is a Wise Development here is what else is as happened across the world we really appreciate your giving us the benefit of your experience kevin crane thank you very much indeed pleasure new corona virus infections are increasing in germany just days after the government eased social restrictions the Robert Koch Institute to release the report as thousands of protesters gathered to demand the lifting of all lockdown rules he concluded jemmys covered 1000. 00 reproduction bait or the number of people each confirmed patient in facts is now above one that means infections are on the rise germanys recorded more than 170000 cases and 7500 deaths so far. South koreas president says theres no reason to panic after a new corona Virus Outbreak in seoul linked to nightclubs when jay and praised his countrys efforts to contain the pandemic but warned of a 2nd wave of infections later this year robin wright reports from seoul. South koreas response to the corona virus has been widely held up as an example to other countries at one time it faced the 2nd worst outbreak in the world after china but quickly brought it under control by encouraging people and companies to voluntarily social distance while conducting mass testing and Contact Tracing president moon use this National Address to promise further advances. We will reinforce our Epidemic Prevention and wire 900 systems become the undisputed number one epidemic response country leading the world but he had a warning that the world was now on the verge of a Global Crisis because of the pandemic. Is fundamentally changing our daily lives and pushing the World Economy into an unprecedented crisis as an export driven economy south korea faces tough times a global recession means people will be buying less of what the country makes while restructuring of Industrial Production is likely to further hurt trade. Its a National Forum a panel of experts came together to consider ways for the economy to recover the focus is using the countrys high tech advantages like 5 g. How south korea performs could have wider implications just as much of the world has been watching how it handled the pandemic so we will be studying how it now recovers from it mcbride aljazeera sold chinas report of the 1st case of court 19 for more than a month in the city where the virus was 1st detected in december its National Health Commission Says the new case did not show symptoms previously the capital of problems was the 1st city in the world to go into lockdown its been slowly returning to normal since restrictions were lifted last month. Djibouti has turned its back on its plan to lift the lockdown rules this weekend the measures have now been extended until next sunday the government says its too early to lift restrictions with nearly 1200 coronavirus cases recorded djibouti is figures are low on a global scale but it has the highest number of infections per capita in africa the World Health Organization warns more than 190000. 00 people across the continent could die from the virus in the coming year. Other news now turkey says attacks on libyas only functioning airport and Diplomatic Missions in which civilians have been killed amount to war crimes and its warning it will take action against forces loyal to wall hung for hafta if they continue turkey supports libyas un recognized government in tripoli which is now launched a counter offensive following saturdays attack planes were damaged and fuel tanks were set alight forces also struck nearby residential areas killing at least 5 civilians the tripoli government says more than a dozen people have been killed over the last 2 days. Iraqis have resumed antigovernment protests after weeks of lockdown that says the new Prime Minister made good on his pledge to free people detained adjourning earlier protests some other force in reports from baghdad. Protesters are back atop the barricades but thats republican bridge demanding the downfall of a government that has only been in power for 3 days. The me was confirmed as Prime Minister last thursday nearly 6 months after antigovernment demonstrations forced his predecessor. To step down but people here see carded me not as a chance to start over but as the continuation of a system that has spilled them. Into beginning every Prime Minister makes concessions but we dont know what the end result will be were not protesting against one person we are protesting against all parties all the parties inside parliament are still the same so nothing will change since march to his square has been largely deserted after the government imposed a nationwide lockdown to contain the spread of coronavirus the curfew has since been part of the lifted this is the largest demonstration here in years where in 2 months and even though the numbers are lower compared to last job or protesters today have managed to send a clear message that simply replacing the head of state is not enough to make the movement go away on saturday the new Prime Minister announced a series of measures aimed at addressing the protesters grievances he formed a committee to bring those responsible for the killing of more than 600 protesters to account and ordered the release of those still in the tension because i think. Well generations that im near we also ordered the release of all detainees who participated in the demonstrations and we asked the High Judiciary Council to cooperate in releasing those who have been sentenced for simple crimes except those who are involved in shutting iraqi blood and the Prime Minister also reinstated popular general abdel wahab by saadi at the helm of iraqs Counterterrorism Service saudis decommissioning last year was blamed on the cronyism and among the factors that sparked protests but there is no quick fix for years of mismanagement no easy way to restore the trust of many who say they have given up on the end tire political establishment. And i mean are they any good maria tired of hearing those promises its like they gave us a general anesthesia but these protesters on the same this time were staying how long have they been in power 16 use they didnt do anything for us we will stay here until we have achieved our demands those demands include jobs Better Services and an end to corruption even if the best of intentions they will take years to fulfill and few here believe that iraqs new Prime Minister can serve the people more than the political interests which brought him to power simona faulty and aljazeera but that still had an aljazeera full time Maximum Capacity atory arms and mexico are overwhelmed by the surge of coronavirus debts. Dream home or only a dream why nigerians are finding it hard to buy a house. Hello there it is fairly warm and also breezy across much of the Arabian Peninsula to the north this cloud has been producing want to show us that beginning to really peter out as we go through monday affecting Northern Areas of iran maybe some rain showers as well into northern sections of afghanistan but elsewhere it is dry maybe some cloud again through the central as a saudi and the winds very brisk coming down from the north are coming from the hot interior so the whole twins 37 and on monday may be a little bit cooler as we head into chooser the waynes actually little bit stronger point but a warm day with a high of 37. 00 and then down into Central Africa the usual seasonal rains at this time of year we continue to see more heavy rain through monday and tuesday along these coastal areas of tanzania again up into areas of kenya and then through cheese day the rains very widespread as is typical for this time of year becoming havea as we go through the day across areas of bone up into cameroon and also nigeria showers in the 4 cost monday and tuesday across central areas of madagascar these could be a little bit havea time some a funnel storms in there of course and generally fine in china throughout much of a south africa slightly for monday but by cheese day we could you see some trout in chiles pushing into the fall south so maybe a damp day in cape town with a high of 21. A breathtaking tropical paradise. Where its former protectors. Are now its their careers. We followed through just as they put their lives on the mine took a. Risk its all medical. On aljazeera. Is introducing a coronavirus alert system as part of the plan for a gradual easing of restrictions outlined by Prime Minister Baucus Johnson is that the priority is to rapidly reverse the spread of the pandemic in care homes and the health service. South koreas president says there is no reason to panic after a new coronaVirus Outbreak in seoul linked to nightclubs in praised his countrys efforts to contain the pandemic but he has warned of a 2nd wave later this year fighting is intensifying in libya after forces loyal to. Attack the capitals only functioning airport turkey says it amounts to a war crime recognized government has launched a counter offensive. Americas top Infectious Disease expert Dr Anthony Fauci is in self quarantine after coming into contact with someone who has covered 19 is a Senior Member of the White House Response Team will go into whats being described as modified quarantine after making a low risk contact to other officials on the task force will go into isolation for 4 weeks president continues to describe his administrations handling of the crisis as a success but as mike hanna reports the u. S. Government is facing criticism for the lack of any Pandemic Response strategy in past decades the u. S. Was the Global Leader in Pandemic Response the Bush Administration largely set the world agenda in combating the h 5 n one or bird flu virus if we wait for a pandemic to appear he warned it will be too late to put the. President obama demanded daily briefings from the pandemic Response Team then ordered troops into the field to fight the 2014 a bowler epidemic the 1st ever deployment of the military in a medical crisis and his stablished a Pandemic Response unit within the National Security Council Called the Global Security team said it would allow for and all of government response in the event of an outbreak or if a foreign epidemic got to us soil so that we would have coordination across Homeland Security our National Security the military health and Human Services c. D. C. And all the various state Health Agencies Barry Garrett advised the pandemic Response Team in both the obama and Bush Administrations the pen demick flu plan of 2005. You know look at the size of this thing this was the 1st serious attempt to come up with a pandemic plan to the United States a plan that the Obama Administration built on and presented to a new president in 2016 and they they handed it over together with a demonstration of what would an outbreak look like to try and bring the trump team up to speed but. Almost immediately the trump team started cutting everything and so by the time you hit the f y 2018 budget most of this whole construct was gone i think the global Response Team was formally disbanded in sweeping budget cuts imposed by President Trump which was a mess of lee reduced funding of the centers for Disease Control actions that in the face of 19 had global as well as National Consequences the whole world is failing right now and in that the nature of the failure the scale of it may vary from one country to another but boy this is you know this is the the biggest set of mistakes made out a global scale since 929 and may very well end up being far worse than that as a microbe seizes opportunity in the wreckage of the Global Health team that one set the standard in Pandemic Response the nations and cities of the world continue to come to the devastating cost by kind of aljazeera washington iraq status and on stricter measures surrounding Nursing Homes new york has reported nearly 5000. 00 deaths and its nursing home facilities or nursing home staff must now be tested twice a week. Thats not just a Temperature Check that is a diagnostic test we have the tests available we have brought them on line the state is more Testing Capacity if youve been in the state in the country they have to test their staff twice a week lets go live now to kristen suddenly who is in new york for us kristen the numbers out of the care homes are significant we are quite far into the situation that new york is finding itself and why isnt joe cole more talking about this at this point. Yes and many reporters at that briefing had that question as well the governor has faced some criticism although hes been very popular in his calm cool collected data driven response to this pandemic one area where he has received a lot of criticism has been for Nursing Homes in particular an order in the state that Nursing Homes be required to take patients from hospitals. After theyve been discharged from the hospital that was done without testing that led to a lot of criticism that. Potentially covert infected nursing home residents are being sent into red back into residents and infecting other patients so we heard today the governor as he talks about reopening parts of the state later this week clamping down on regulations around Nursing Homes to try to get that under control better under control with testing of staff twice a week and also a requirement that hospitals now test patients before they send them to a nursing home to make sure that they are in fact not carrying the coronavirus where they could potentially in fact other people with it so both of those things as we as we know that a 3rd of all deaths from get the coronavirus in the United States have come from Nursing Homes so the governor now looking at possibly beginning to reopen the state responding to this criticism although he denies it was in response to the criticism he deflected a lot of the criticism saying that new yorks nursing home death rate is actually less than many in the United States he did go this extra mile to tighten restrictions surrounding Nursing Homes and to ride to new yorks problems a body of the state department of health is investigating these are the last count 85 cases of children with an inflammatory illness linked to covert 19 whats the story behind. Well the state of new york is now working with the centers for Disease Control to better identify and understand this condition but as you said some 85 children mostly School Age Children in the state have now been identified as having it for the 1st time today we heard from the mayor of new york city a name for this disease he called it multisystem inflammatory syndrome and in all of these cases the children presented to their physicians not with symptoms of coded 19 but other symptoms like rashes and fever abdominal pain vomiting swollen extremities. And only after being tested was it discovered that in new york city anyway 41 percent of those who had this condition tested positive for coated 1981 percent of those who tested negative showed that they had had the antibodies for coronavirus so they had had it previously so becoming sick with this new condition and in extreme cases which could lead to fade tallaght e. S. These children end up with inflamed blood vessels and heart damage and thats what can potentially lead to tallaght is the good news in all of this is that it can be treated if identified soon enough so the city and the state have been trying to get the word out to parents to be on the lookout for these other symptoms that do not appear to be coded symptoms but could have a link or could be perhaps being triggered by the corona virus that will remain under investigation who says hillary new york christine thanks very much. Police in hong kong have broken up protests in several Major Shopping Centers despite social distancing controls hong kong is seeing a revival of antigovernment demonstrations pollen reports its the 1st weekend since hong kong strict social distancing rules were eased many shops and restaurants opened expecting celebrations for mothers day instead there were scenes like this in several shopping malls across the city movie there was protesters would appear in different parts of the mall then disperse a sin is there was word that police were on their way to visit some of them but this day is a tradition in there so i find it really annoying and i have no idea why the police are so i guess the. Protesters gathered spontaneously to chant slogans and sing and in line with the days theme calling for independence for hong kong the chance for independence are likely to provoke beijing and the Hong Kong Government and the protesters say had taken advantage of the coronaVirus Outbreak to crackdown on the citys Democracy Movement thing for which in the midst of the coronavirus the government has imposed restrictions on gathering and turn it into a crackdown on freedom of assembly not only for the human rights of citizens but also for religious activities i think this is a gross violation of human rights. Hong kong has not had any new local infection of covert 19 for nearly 3 weeks on friday its government eased social distancing restrictions increasing the number of people allowed to gather from 4 to 8. Months or we have to spread in groups in a flow as it moves the police go is great as we can only go guerrilla star anyone flouting the rules could be immediately find 250. 00 a large sum for many of the young protesters this is one of hong kongs main tourist and commercial areas and. Hard to tell who is a protester all whether they are simply here to shop the boss police could identify protesters because they wore masks to remain anonymous but now almost everyone in the city is wearing a Face Covering as advised by the government to help stop the spread of coronavirus. Most of the crowds on sunday were part off or supported the prodemocracy protests last year which would often lead to violent confrontations between police and demonstrators the karuna virus pandemic has said did many activities including the antigovernment protests but it seems to have done little to diminish the anger of the protesters who see the government taking advantage of the situation to further their erode hong kongs freedoms and many here are calling this the start of protest season if you go palin our designer a hong kong iran has been reported as saying its ready to conduct a Prisoner Exchange with the u. S. Without any preconditions government spokesman was quoted in local media saying tech wrong has expressed willingness to exchange all prisoners but has not heard back from the us both countries have called for the release of prisoners because of the covert 19 outbreak. Brazils president is facing renewed criticism over his response to the pandemic on the day the numbers of deaths past 10000 jailable sonando was seen writing a jet ski on a lake in the capital brasilia his actions are in defiance of advice and social distancing from his own health ministry. Has dismissed growing along over luck in americas worst outbreak as neurosis. Mexicos government says that its at the peak of the pandemic it has more than 33000 infections but experts say the numbers could be much higher because of lack of testing John Heilemann reports from near mexico city. For 2 weeks this mexican criminal tore in has been going day and night exhausted workers told us that almost all of those here a covert victims. Of the method that we are working to triple what we usually do we just cant keep up before we committed it when one and 3 bodies a day now its up to 15 or 20. The countrys official quoted they have told is it just over 3000 thats in a country of almost 130000000 people at the peak of its epidemic there are fears in reality it could be higher. Of a criminal for him to report there also at max capacity like this one in its to palapa on the outskirts of mexico city that i have assisted enough imo sometimes our ovens are so saturated we have to cremate the following day we leave the bodies at the hospital because we have no room for them if it is that the countrys coronavirus saw sit in a prove that the real number of cases likely to be at least 8 times higher than the official figure. Many other countries also admit the data but it could be bigger here because the testing rate is so low and that goes for faith to its own as asians come articularly in face 3 in a serious condition which doesnt give us the chance to do the test it could be done after death at that rarely happens so we have people that die and have the scene terms of corbett at our in vegas there is such. But some local governments say that on top of those problems the death toll sleeper reported havent been reflected in the federal count. Where you see those they counted us as having 24 dead but we had 87 more than 3 times more than that as the any given up until last night we had 54 people who died of cold meat 19 according to their medical certificates and in the daily roundups from the state and federal government theyve only registered 16 that.
