with a huge chunk of delegates as well as colorado this hour we're looking into who would win the $295.00 democratic and $192.00 republican delegates well as the results continue to come in over the next few hours richelle we'll bring you them which of the 2 so mention those states when they come in obviously yes i will tell viewers this is what we do know right now those early results vice president joe biden former vice president pardon me having an amazing night so far those states and blue of the states he is already projected to win alabama north carolina and virginia bernie sanders senator from vermont is projected to win his home state of vermont so far that's the only state that has been called for him there are still some states calm that he's predicting predicted to do very well when but right now only one state has been called for him so this is where the total stands right now biden as that 161 or any sanders 100 coming into the night for the 1st 4 contests we have had bernie sanders was actually in the late senator from massachusetts elizabeth warren at 8 and mike bloomberg has gained his 1st few delegates after winning in the american territory samoa where they do not vote for president they do vote in these primaries we haven't spent a lot of time talking about the republican side because donald trump is going to win that and there are some states and in fact actually canceled their contests. yes because they know donald trump is going to win but just to mention that side the states in red oklahoma arkansas tennessee north carolina. massachusetts for mont and alabama are the states that donald trump is already projected to win so as the polls continue to close as the numbers continue to come in throughout the night morning evening training on what part of the world you're in i will bring it to you all right daryn. all right richelle thank you there are let's cross live now to to austin texas and speak to alan fischer he joins us live again from there allan so texas of course a big prize on super tuesday it's hugely diverse isn't it candidates making lots of effort there so what are the prospects for a biden win that. well you know many people are saying that bernie sanders who has in the polls until the last couple of days but we're seeing a suggestion joe biden just might a win here in texas still very very early days but if you add that to our console and alabama when he's doing exceptionally well and then there's oklahoma where he's expected to edge out might bloomberg then suddenly this becomes a very good chunk of states for joe biden joining me live now here is charlie borna of move texas which is all about getting people out to vote registering people to vote we're hearing that there's problems here in chop this county which is where we are in austin some people having to wait a long time to vote yeah we're hearing about our long wait lines across the state right now here in austin we're also hearing reports just south of here in hayes county i want our campus polling locations that when the polls close at 7 pm there was a 3 hour wait line for students at that campus polling location we're seeing this happen all across the state so it could be a late night and that's not because there's a this huge chunk that's because. of the way that people can vote in this in this state has been impacted by secu supreme court decision absolutely we are seeing a historic increase in the number of students voting so that definitely is a factor thousands registering before this election and turning out today so definitely a factor but the state of texas has really not invested in the infrastructure to support voters' tourney you're talking about registering somewhere in the region of about a 1000000 extra voters yes and $20000.00 got how does not impact the race because most of them if they're young would tend to be democratic i guess so we're seeing about a 1000000 voters since the last presidential election under the age of 25 registered to vote so a fundamentally different electorate as you're talking about in these people are more progressive more diverse than any electorate we've ever seen in the state and i. i think that's going to benefit the same campaign and the war and campaign you've actually been investing in these communities for many months now and you've been looking at the results you see that joe biden is having a very good night what's your take on the i think he's having a good night i'm not sure how it's going to play in texas there's 2 counties that i'm watching right now so travis county where we are where sanders is about 30 percent right now in terry county which is one of those red to blue counties that we saw in 2018 other that better or race where sanders is also leading there and democratic turnout is exceptionally up so i think it's going to be interesting to see these kind of changing electorates what's happening and where they're turning out just for international audience explain why texas becomes important if the electorate changes and if the democrats are right and they can take those 1000000 plus new voters and flip texas and make it democratic in the presidential elections 1st of all that's a big goal state we've got a lot of delegates up for grabs tonight and we have a lot of seats in the electoral college so whoever controls texas can really lead the direction of the nation but also our voters look like america the way that texas goes tonight is really reflective of where the country is right now charlie thanks very much indeed for joining us live here late you're back to the watch party here so people with their eyes on the results but then we were thinking that there might be a result from texas maybe in the next out or so but as charlie says with waiting in the pond late we're hearing reports that some of these students still haven't made up their mind who they're going to vote for so they might not be quite there with who they support for the sent me behind the process or had to out of the fish and then also in texas i will no doubt come back to you to ok some more results in now richelle all right we are projecting right now that they contest in california colorado pardon me that there were no well both senator bernie sanders that are think they think pledged democratic delegates are at stake there he does not. all of them will remind you throughout the night they are awarded proportionally but bernie sanders predicted to be the winner and colorado so let's take a look at the big picture again take a look here joe biden still in the late 174 pani sanders making some progress at 112 elizabeth warren senator at a my point burke so far his the one only at the american territory of samoa and that scott and fix delegates so far so that is the lay of the land as these numbers continue to come in and we will continue to bring them to you back to you daryn richelle thank you we'll see in a bit late to our last call someone out to rob reynolds who joins us live from los angeles he's at a bernie sanders event there rob so before we talk about california just us about those results in colorado that michele dishonors about utah. well those that bernie sanders victory in colorado the 2nd for him of the night will certainly cheer the crowd here at this watch party and organizing area in los angeles bernie sanders is expected to do quite well here in california the polling derren in utah has been pretty scanty but we have seen. in the most recent polls again i think the crowd now reacting to the to the colorado news but we have seen bernie sanders ahead in utah as well however those polls all came out before any close but char and pete would a judge dropped out of the race and threw their support to bernie sanders sanders hopes to replicate here the victory he had in nevada put it together a progressive young people and let tino's you know sometimes let tino's or referred to as kind of the sleeping giant of american politics because they don't vote in the numbers that they represent in the general population or as registered potential ridged voters but. the sanders campaign has been extended conducting some extensive outreach into that ethnic group and they hope that that will pay off tonight. joe biden is has been making some inroads in california he's actually in the state now and he will finish up the night of super tuesday here with a party in california i'd like to bring in a guest now jeremy white jeremy is a organizer for bernie sanders and you're the creative director here for the for the party tonight which means that you've got to put on a good show tell me jeremy why are you voting for bernie sanders. it's probably the number one where that comes to mind he has stood by the people his entire career he's never wavered there's videos of him for the last 30 years having very unpopular opinions about human rights and civil rights that have become more popular and actually shifted the overton window to the left in this country so that it's only his integrity that has allowed him to. grasp the american people in this in this way like with such passion so what are the particular issues that mr sanders has been advocating as you said for decades now that you think are you know have come of age now while environmental awareness that's huge i was standing rock water protector i was inspired to go out there in part by bernie's. you know giving it a platform and talking about it. justice reform and in the war on drugs decriminalizing marijuana there are people still in jail to this day who are there because of nonviolent marijuana offenses well it is just legal everywhere else we look so that's a big one for me jeremy let me ask you this you've probably been watching the returns coming in you seen that former president president joe biden is having a pretty good night so far the question arises if. bernie sanders is not the nominee and another candidate such as biden becomes the nominee will people such as yourself and your fellow supporters of bernie sanders vote for the democratic nominee even if it's not burning it depends on how they come to that nomination if they do it by hook and by crook then why do i owe them my vote we're talking about democracy we're talking about the you know the sanctity of people ability to choose their government and if they try to install bitin as they tried to install hillary in 2016 they're. we're going to be people in this movement that have an issue with that myself included you know i've worked very hard for the platform issues that we're fighting for a porch very hard for bernie to times now working for the people working for medicare this is it's isn't just about political preference this is about people's lives on the line jeremy we're going to have to leave it there thank you very much that's jeremy white speaking to us here at the watch party and as you can see even when the returns come in there will be some questions for example how the supporters the hard core supporters of bernie sanders the people who have worked for him and have believed in him how they will react if. senator sanders is not the nominee to really to tell that voting still got under way here in california polls are closing a couple of hours from now and there may be even some legs well as an absentee ballots and other sort of ballots are counted so we made we might not know for some time exactly how california has voted if it's a close race different there are several brunell's there in los angeles rob thank you for that we've got some more results rochelle's at the wall all right daryn oklahoma we've been keeping an eye on oklahoma and former vice president joe biden is the predicted the projected winner there there are $37.00 delegates up for grabs there he will get a portion of that 37 in just a moment ago just to remind you. bernie sanders is predicted to win and colorado so let's take a look at the big picture now coming into the night. bernie sanders was the leader of al and joe biden of course is coming off the momentum of doing extremely well in south carolina and he is in the lead tonight has been in the lead the entire night 174 delegates 112 for bernie sanders elizabeth warren has now gotten up to 12 she'd been pretty much at 8 all night and mike bloomberg has gotten 6 delegates at us from the american territory of samoa let's remind you though mike bloomberg has spent about half a $1000000000.00 he was not on the 1st 4 ballots he is on the ballots tonight in super tuesday and so far has 6 delegates to show for it so really strong night for joe biden so far there are still some big states yet to be counted that would be texas and california we're going to keep an eye on all of that in the meantime back to you daryn richelle great stuff thank you very much indeed well let's talk to christine some of the machines that a mike bloomberg event live in florida joins us from west palm beach so still no news yet on massachusetts kristen. house elected to payout is it is a bit more unlikely to win there. well it's not looking good and elizabeth warren of course is from massachusetts so a loss there would be devastating but bernie sanders the other progressive voice left in the race is from the nearby state of vermont in his project it's win vermont and also doing well in massachusetts at this hour so that does not look good for elizabeth warren i am standing however at the headquarters of michael bloomberg and west palm beach florida and he also is not having as great a night as he had hoped 1 for the half a 1000000000 dollars that he has spent on this race he did get into the race late and focused a lot of his attention on the contests today he was hoping to do well in the southern states of alabama north carolina virginia where we now see joe biden picking up wins the question though is will joe biden pick up any more delegates when did you hear that he has one delegates from the american territory of samoa will he get any other proportional delegates tonight regardless he says he is going to keep up the fight through the coming contest all the way to the convention. to talk a little bit about the appeal of mike bloomberg and why he thinks it's worth staying in and that he can appeal to job on a spider by other voters i have some of those voters right here laura levine told me that this is the 1st time that she has ever come to a political rally so why is it that you chose mike bloomberg to counter well i got attacked from his campaign and it just really excited me because while i've been a lifelong democrat none of the other candidates really kind of moved me and i was very excited to come and see him speak. joe biden having a good night mike bloomberg seems to be going after those middle of the road joe biden type voters why do you think bloomberg is a better candidate especially now that so much of the party seems to be. rallying behind joe biden one thing about mike bloomberg that i see from knowing him while it is that he knows we hears he does a lot but he doesn't change and you knew him a while because you lived in new york you know that was me yes you know you saw what he did as mayor he's very different he takes a direction and if he makes a mistake or up to it but you know i sometimes feel the bite never quite sure where he's coming from and mike bloomberg touts his management yes credentials would you say that was on evidence as mayor of. definitely i mean he takes been trolling and i like that you also will bring in experts he's not afraid to you know get the best in the business to get an opinion about bernie sanders he's got a lot of passionate supporters by behind him if he ends up winning the nomination could you vote for bernie sanders i don't know i'd have to think about that family that would be tough he's a little. radical for me i'm also worried about his health to tell you. you know ok so mike bloomberg for you and your daughters here she was undecided matty have you made up your mind after seeing my clothes i have not made up my 9 yet but no we're probably here we're seeing all the advertisements i'm 18 years old so this is the 1st year that i can vote and also this marks the 100th year that women can vote would not like to exercise that power and of for myself that's why i decided to come here which is only half an hour from my house and for myself i want it all right but still undecided mom maybe mom will convince her one way or the other a lot of enthusiasm supporters that the bloomberg headquarters tonight but not spectacular results for the house $1000000000.00 that he spent on the campaign so far but bloomberg made it clear that he sees the race to the white house going through swing states like florida wisconsin pennsylvania and he continues to spend enormous amounts of money and those that important battleground states and make the argument should joe biden falter going forward that he'd. it's actually the best moderate the best manager to take on the top of that all right to christen some of that west palm beach in florida kristen thank you for that let's go to john hendren now he's a north carolina at a polling station in charlotte so john just take us through those primaries virginia tennessee minnesota. i mean when it went to joe biden is that likely to bet any fruit in minnesota. that's your idea and actually have moved since i was at that polling station we are now at a democratic watch party where democrats from various campaigns are but in answer to your question about minnesota that was a state where bernie sanders was polling very strong he was actually pulling ahead of any clomid char who was the sitting senator from that state but when she pulled out of the race in the past 48 hours everything changed she endorsed joe biden so did people who judge and that means some of those votes are likely to go 'd to joe biden and if if what happens there is what happens throughout the rest of the country that we've been seeing on the east coast anyway he's got a shot of picking up a significant number of delegates but minnesota had a very strong group of people voting for bernie sanders so it's still yet to be decided what's going to happen there biden will probably do better he was below the 15 percent threshold in polls events how the night ended up he wouldn't have any delegates at all but he has come on particularly strong in the south beginning in he won that south carolina primary on saturday going into super tuesday that gave him a lot of momentum some of the neighboring states here in north carolina where he has got the majority of 110 electoral votes here and then to the north in virginia where he's got the majority of the 99 electoral votes it looks like and then he's looking pretty good next door in tennessee these are. southern states not likely to be bernie sanders territory so biden knew we had to do well because as the night goes on he goes to the west coast and that's where he faces some real strength from the senators part john just before we touch on north carolina we're just reading here that the turnout in virginia is up from 800000 in 2016 to 1300000 this year i mean that's you. know each huge and it's fascinating because this year we didn't have a surge of young voters in north carolina and virginia one of the things that helped biden out in fact was that more than half of the voters were over 5 years old those tend to be biden voters and also 25 percent of those who voted in north carolina in virginia were african-americans as well. biden polls strongly among african-americans so strong turnout and some of the people that support biden came out in good numbers all right john hendren in charlotte north carolina john no doubt we'll come back to you later as super tuesday progresses john hendren thank you very much lots of things this gus with our panel here this morning just mother come to you 1st interesting lee elizabeth warren not doing well so far she seems to have tanked tonight. she was she was polling well wasn't she in vermont prior to super tuesday but now got no delegates. yeah. both warren and bloomberg seem to be underperforming their polls in a lot of a lot of areas but warren absolutely underperforming her polls at the moment she's in 3rd in massachusetts which is the state which she is the senator of. and other than that she is coming below the threshold of 15 percent across the board across the board and and this is show and it seems as though the votes are going to biden . biden is over performing his polls this is this is really showing the strength of the democratic voters listening to their party and consolidating around an alternative to bernie sanders it was interesting listening to the bernie sanders supporter talk about how well you know we'll see if i would support you know another candidate other than bernie sanders it depends on how they allocate this at the convention but i think it is important to consider that this is not just the party speaking and saying we prefer biden across the board we have seen this very strong results for biden and this is the voters speaking not just the party and i will also just say in terms of bloomberg he is squeaking ahead of the 15 percent threshold in several states so he is gathering some delegates although if you divide it by half a $1000000000.00 it's quite pricey per delegate. but you know bloomberg got into this race because he said biden's not strong. this is a strong night for biden at the end of this super tuesday biden i think will have shown his strength in consolidating these votes the fact is people who are voting for bloomberg are not going to turn around and vote for bernie sanders they're voting for a billionaire so they'll probably vote for you know buy it and so when you think about bloomberg support going towards biden we would we would see a front runner going into the convention for sure and so. i hope that bloomberg even with some delegate pick up also considers very strongly whether he should drop out after this disappointing for him jones if so so what's going wrong than from his with warmth. it's interesting and sort of and says the opposite of what happened the republicans in 2016 in a very crowded field which allowed outsider to use to rack up plurality wins and sort of one by one pick off opponents democrats a crowded field a strong outsider showing early in the early primaries and instead of all of those candidates continuing in the party failing to coordinate on a main alternative democrats have coordinated around joe biden and elizabeth warren who continues in the race is a victim of that coordination a democratic voters by and large want a strong nominee with the party behind them if you're not a bernie sanders supported by now you're unlikely to become one and so as candidates drop out of the race the majority of their supporters are now going to fall in line behind this sort of signaled front runner for the party and i think elizabeth warren just been caught in the middle of that but she wanted to continue she wanted to beat that 15 percent threshold get delegates maybe go to the convention but as the party rallies behind biden that's not really a tenable position anymore and if more candidates and stayed in you know sort of if if if if bloomberg had had more legs or maybe she could have. sort of seen that strategy through a little bit more but i think she's a victim of circumstance rather than. any sort of error or miscalculation on her when you're talking about optics earlier on in that she can't win in a state that's not what it was a look there are 3 main factors drivers now in this democratic primary money momentum and popular movement the 3 m's as you. sure that was artificial but another thing. but the bike story sanders has a popular movement behind him and this is not just now it's been accumulating over the years he's been in the field and he's been accumulating and there's a new generation is also rallying behind him she has a popular movement. of course mr bloomberg has the money and he's he's like playing with it you know men like boys with more expensive toys he's basically spending half a $1000000000.00 playing really basically at this point in time and then we've course we have joe biden with the establishment momentum so you have all these 3 and where does. elizabeth warren fall in that while she doesn't have that much money that much movement and that much establishment momentum and hence she does really fall between the chairs i think i still believe that she thinks she is or she could be a vice president and i tell you why that is a very important and that's very important because and this is actually tragic that the democrats as an alternative to the 70 plus trump are basically now standing behind 2 late seventy's democrats which means that either by don't sanders if they are nominated they'll probably be one term presidents i mean i don't really think that biden will last through the end of a 2nd but a 10 year 2nd 40 year terms he's what now 78 years old so i think the idea that whoever would be the vice-president of either sanders or a biden is important because i don't think they will last for 2 terms when you come back to the sec. joe rather disingenuously said that. mike bloomberg this is a big playground for him with all his billions you know i mean what's your take on this i mean he's the one who's had political ambitions for a long time and he was mayor of new york he's been talking about running for president on again off again for years now you know i think he did have some genuine interest in being a viable nominee for the democratic party and he sort of picked the moment right when joe biden was was faltering and there didn't seem to be a clear and moderate establishment alternative but point out that as biden now sort of. reassert some momentum and energy in his campaign that rationale goes away he doesn't have a long history of being a democratic officeholder or personal constituency in the party it's hard to see that no matter how much money he has that he's going to be able to pull this off especially after a poor showing to model if we come to you once in one second just in timing is everything isn't it is this the right time to build the. he thought it was the voters are speaking right now that's really the only thing that matters not the polls and it does not necessarily appear that it is the correct time for him of course we have to see especially texas and california are still those states that we have yet to see that those are going to be massive halls right now sanders is slightly ahead for example in texas and we see for example that 8 percent of the voters come in for booted judge so we have this problem with the early voting 40 percent of the vote in california was already in before these endorsements so we may not completely see this consolidation of some of these you know early voting but we're certainly not seen a consolidation around bloomberg we're seen a consolidation around by very quickly my when we're going to say i mean money is the biggest problem in american politics and this man he's the one who is being disingenuous he's basically trying a hostile takeover of the democratic primaries a hostile takeover by a businessman who doesn't have a movement who's basically come you know what it would be what's the expression something completely johnny come lately with a lot of money and trying to win elections i think that's terrible for american politics and democracy joe we've got to go to break soon but just before we go we're talking to rochelle earlier on has given us all you know the results wonderfully tonight she was talking about these long lines and some minority communities in places like texas this is a big problem for voting isn't it. growing state of the population during the electorates growing in the state has reduced the number of polling places over the last few years and done so just proportionately in big cities which is where your minority populations tend to be where he is were more densely packed together and so it's going to create problems in the democratic primary and it's going to have consequences in the general election to me as people sort of you know maybe at the margins show up and you either don't want to or can't because they have other obligations stand in line. you're for multiple hours to vote so it's a problem just in terms of your for tonight and for today making sure the people who want to vote can vote but it's going to have consequences later on because the the extent to which people are dissuaded doesn't fall equally on the republican and democratic parties made constituencies. just you know it is a problem isn't as as joe said there's a systematic disenfranchisement going on in in the us today because it's easier for certain groups of people to vote than other groups of people and by that we mean people who are poor who are minorities who are less educated a lot of people that the democratic party counts on younger voters do fall into this as well people who have not been registered before people haven't voted before and so we really do need to take seriously our voting registration process and also just the access to polling places unfortunately it isn't being taken seriously under the current presidency but we hope that we'll be able to renew these these institutions of democracy in the future all right just a lot to talk about so we're going to take a break here on a special choose their coverage stay with us what you would back in a 2nd. however the weather is coming from both directions in this part of asia for a start you've got the winter storms coming out with cold air giving star you for maybe north korea but it also can occasionally okada and then coming out of china you've got rain and the to me giving you snow on the high right essential hong sure a miserable day in his soccer tokyo blue being rain what's being snow that rain totals back into china has on his way through hong kong all searched your days at 90 degrees overcast with outbreaks of light ish right now most of china still fine and their quote is not volatile beijing is 11 degrees but this is definitely a return to winter for carter that's a lot of snow coming your way and that's all thursday big showers in indonesia a pretty widespread the focus i think in the next day or so still going to be born even soloway see but you cannot rule out flash floods in java or to the east where we have seen recently asked up into the malays here in southern thailand or draw a picture the most not completely and you'll notice some parts of cambodia and thailand are showing shows over land and that's true throughout india bangladesh and pakistan in fact in pakistan significant rain and snow are on their way. from. al-jazeera goes beneath the waves with a team of women determined to save the dolphins we all share the same responsibility needed something for a project i'm aiming at using a variety of more results now. all right tennessee tennessee is obviously been in the news because of the series of tornadoes that tore across the state killing at least 25 people but people did go to the polls it's very possible very likely in fact that some of the turnout of course was dampened by what happened there but nevertheless vice president joe biden is projected to be the winner there $64.00 plagued delegates at stake and joe biden will get the largest portion of that from tennessee so he has been having an incredibly strong night let's give you the map here to show you the states that he has won oklahoma alabama so you just mentioned tennessee north carolina and virginia if you go a little further up north senator bernie sanders won his home state of vermont and also is projected to win colorado as well so this is not a winner take all as we've been saying tonight the delegates are portion allocated proportionally so we don't have we don't have a lot of the specifics right now but let's give you the big map now to show you where they stand in total delegates like i said i can't stress this enough this is a really strong night for joe biden after the 1st 3 candidates 3 contests he was basically considered to have a very poor showing he came back in south carolina and has taken that momentum or is his team calls it joementum and not do that for the night he's in the lead right now $195.00 bernie sanders $123.00 elizabeth warren at 12 and not even doing well in her own state of massachusetts bloomberg is up to 10 delegates so far yet there and i said it joementum i know we heard you loud and that was i don't know if that's a new that's a new word which we will use it's about it's a little bit late so i can assure you of that all right let's bring in our white house correspondent kimberly how could kimberly let's not forget that also this is a republican primary as well as what's been happening what's troubling. yeah well the trip has been uncharacteristically quiet what we have been watching is he congratulating himself on twitter for winning the various states he didn't really have any competition but each state that is declared his he continues to sort of point that out along with the keep america great or cag hash tag now in the midst of all of this what the campaign is also doing is fundraising and this is something that we often see on big nights this is an opportunity for them to continue to line their coffers in fact that's a big distinction between this time around versus 2016 when donald trump's campaign was fledgling this time they've got an awful lot of money and they're using it for the leather thing that we've seen a lot of in the days leading up to super tuesday is the president continuing to kind of try and so dissent among the democratic candidates pointing out the weaknesses sort of he always looks for the chink in the armor if you will and this is something that he has done up until this night because as long as the democrats are fighting amongst themselves they're not fighting against him and so he wants to keep that going but for the moment he's been very quiet now we don't know if he's watching as these results come in we haven't had any official word from the white house press office on that but it's safe to assume that he is watching in fact we can see when we look at the residence there is a light on in the back where the official residence was so we do believe the president is watching but again he's been a little bit quiet up to this point we expect that to change just a final thought come to before you go so who's the biggest challenge of them at this point in terms of how the republicans and trump looking at it. well there is no question that there are 2 standouts here joe biden the vice president the former vice president in the barack obama administration certainly is the establishment candidate the republicans are watching very carefully but then of course there is bernie sanders and they're watching him as well because what we're seeing and we've been talking about this throughout the night is that possibility of the contested or brokered convention that again is something that haven't changes to the president because that means democrats have to spend money fighting for that nomination to the bitter and versus fighting him so this is something that republicans are really salivating on in the possibility because on the one hand vice president joe biden is certainly someone that donald trump believes he can beat they he continues to bully him on twitter calling him sleepy joe biden making sort of pointing out some of the missteps that he's had in the campaign so far and then of course there's also the republican argument that they would love to get their hands on a candidate like bernie sanders because they believe this is where they can draw the biggest distinction between the u.s. president and bernie sanders making the argument that he wants a socialist revolution using scare tactic to say all of the accomplishments that donald trump believes he's made during his presidency namely the economy that this would all be undone the jobs the the wages all of that would go away under sanders presidency so these are really the 2 that they're focusing on but don't forget there's mayor mike bloomberg in all of this till now i don't think that the republicans have been taking him and his candidacy that seriously but that could all change depending on what happens as a result of super tuesday so it's safe to say this white house this president republicans watching very carefully sharpening their knives but really there is no one single target just yet or it can be held at the monitoring things at the white house complete thank you for that let's bring it back up panel now because we're still waiting. bernie sanders to come out he's at burlington vermont in fact his wife is talking now currently. at the podium talking and obviously we think he will come out shortly after that i want to quickly if i can just talk about strategic voting because that's quite important just let me start with you roland has played in these primaries it appears as though the consolidation around joe biden by various other candidates who have dropped out by the democratic party is is playing out by the voters strategic decisions i mean you take a state like maine for example maine's a quirky state. they were the state that voted ross perot 2nd only to bill clinton in 92 we had an independent governor for many years we have republican senators and democratic house of representatives they can go all over it gave an electoral vote to trump in 2016 for example many of the same people who had voted for obama just before. bloomberg was polling very well in maine leading up to this but right now it is a head to head about 34 percent both for biden and for sanders and bloomberg is way down this is a state where bloomberg would normally do well an independent businessman that works for the voters of maine but not right here we're seeing the democratic primary voters saying to themselves we need to consolidate and if i'm not for bernie as as as joe said they already know whether they're bernie sanders voter or not if they're not they're consolidating around around by strategic voting. yeah i think you see a lot of democrats who maybe had other favorites particularly as those favorites drop out now turning to joe biden another place in addition to maine where that is really strong players in minnesota right there at the polling that's come out over the last week or so showed joe biden very far back in the pack amy closure may be fighting it out with with bernie sanders to to win her home state but is called a short others have dropped out joe biden now looks to be in the lead in minnesota and may. actually porter when there after having been in a single digit polling situation you know less than a week ago and so that's really the right that momentum is the result of voters making choices that he's made was in their 1st choice but it is their choice now going forward in the primary process all right we're still waiting on bernie sanders to talk he's there in burlington in vermont these are pictures of his wife just leaving the podium so as we wait for going to come on stage mom let me ask you in terms of throwing forward what softer tonight i mean it's been a great night for biden and i get to use that made up word by rachelle joe mentum there's been a lot of judgment and that's a night. a terrible night that is about war and hasn't been and then he seems bang on target i think people are quite smug about bloomberg losing but they're quite sad about elizabeth losing and that's just i think a general feeling probably in america because of the way she handled her campaign on so and so forth but in terms of moving forward i'm still not as certain about things even though we are at this time because of texas and california because look texas and california are something like 45 percent of the delegates of super tuesday and we haven't really heard much except that allen saying things are getting a bit murky in texas although sanders was ahead and california was still thinking that sanders is ahead so it's actually sent there's wins california and texas he is going all the way to the convention and he is going to be leaving is imprints on whatever the agenda is coming against trump regardless of what happens within that convention so i think the main things we need to wait and see tonight is texas and california for the $600.00 plus delegates that they would provide for the coalition the prize of course tax california those are the big ones. it's been a good night to bernie sanders job. i think it's been the night he expected right so california which is a place where the politics of the state a very progressive where there's a lot of early voting that's for president a huge number of democratic delegates because of their rules allocating so many to that particular state so i think at the end of the night will end with an exclamation point for him pulling in a large number of delegates but having said that it's hard to understate what a shift towards joe biden has happened over the last week and a lot of what will happen going forward in the rest of the democratic primaries is going to be how the media and the democratic primary electorate interpret these results is it is the story and is the pattern that people continue to move towards biden other candidates maybe dropping out and allowing their supporters to probably disproportionately migrate to him in which case he comes out with with the momentum and with the. you know the opportunity to probably catch up on what will be a bernie sanders lead with those california delegates or as we see the sort of sanders lead and maybe as with warning mike bloomberg staying in. maybe preventing some further shift towards biden and you know allowing bernie into kind of come back in reassert himself at the order of states that comes next is very important. you know are they going to be places with demographics that favor sanders or they can be places that favor biden. and then one of the things we've talked about before which i think is really important paying attention to not just the delegate count but looking at where these candidates are and among whom they're most successful if bernie sanders can pile up wins in california and colorado and vermont and iowa but those aren't the pivotal states they don't have demographics that look like those pivotal states come the general election seeing joe biden do well in virginia. north carolina and minnesota those are the places that look what either are or look like those of the general election swing states where democrats need to reassert themselves after president trump unexpected these are broke broke through the blue fire wall in 2016 and to the extent that there's a possibility of a. sort of contested convention and maybe somebody like joe biden being needing to make an argument that look i don't have the most delegates going in but i deserve to be the nominee being able to say i want in the places in the primaries that we have to win in the general election to to defeat what we see as the most destructive president you know in in modern american history that that may be his best argument if he's not in the lead going in so. not just thinking about what the delegate counts are who's won but where they want how they want to mung whom they've won and what the story is that comes out of tonight i think god i mean just in the you know i mean the wheels are coming off joe biden's campaign just a few weeks ago extremely lackluster was it all going right for him tonight. again it goes back to that strategic voting and a clear message i mean you cannot have collective action unless you have clear communication a signal that says put your actions put your efforts towards this end goal and that is what the endorsements did that's what the party did. as as marwan pointed out we have to see what happens with texas and california because of the early voting because. judge include the shar didn't drop out that will rick didn't make his endorsement until the day before there has been a lot of early voting already so we may not see full strategic voting in these results nevertheless i know people who have indeed in california they were they were rooting say for for buddha judge and their 2nd choice was warren and they voted for biden instead because they are against bernie sanders we we see this kind of strategic voting happening i think we'll see it in the end results will come to a 2nd because we've got some more results. right so yes we do have some results coming in and the past 48 hours senator amy klobuchar the senator from minnesota dropped out of the race and threw her weight behind former vice president joe biden it seems to have definitely made a difference biden is the projected winner in minnesota there are $75.00 pledged delegates at stake there he will get the largest portion of that so again senator amy klobuchar dropped out of the race threw her weight behind joe biden and joe biden has won so this is where things stand right now $257.00 that is the delegate total for joe biden $152.00 for bernie sanders 17 for mike bloomberg and elizabeth warren has fallen down to 4th with 12 that an incredibly strong night so far for joe biden bernie sanders has won 2 states so far joe biden is one all of the rest but there are still some big prizes up california texas to say the least and when those numbers come in we will bring them to you all right great thanks for that you're going to talk about strategic voting should be assisted you get is because look i mean just so that our international viewers get an idea what we're talking about here when we come to the general elections are we talking baseball or football these are the 2 unique american sports are we talking about batting and fielding and running out on circles and calling statistics or are we talking american football and people know what american football looks like it looks like rough stuff tackling and someone has to hold the ball and take it to the end and i think this election with this incumbent president this is no way in the world is going to look like baseball this is football. what hands down democrats are going to have to ask themselves who's going to be able to go up against thrum is that crazy bernie or is it sleepy joe but and in a sense whatever their answer is they're going to have to really rally behind their candidate and that's why bernie without the establishment will not work and the establishment without bernie and his movement will not work they're going to have to play tough ball come november that's the strategy and they have to prepare for that i am not very clear whether sleepy joe is going to be able to tackle trump because i remember very clearly that 2016 elections when trump tower to 6.5 or 6.4 he towered over hillary clinton and you could see for a 2nd americans looking at that and saying well look i mean this guy. before for him. yes it was 2016 so there's a very strong pattern in american politics mother things right to the parties sort of take turns in the white house americans kind of get tired for a variety of reasons of one party being in control so going back to the end of the 2nd world war. eisenhower had 2 terms kennedy and johnson and 2 terms nixon that's the pattern so when a party has 2 terms it's likely the other party will return to power after and 2nd as the economic voting right in the economy is good we reward incumbents in 2016 we had a 2 term democratic president and a kind of middling economy and it was a year that the republicans should have won the popular vote and should have run up the score in the electoral college and didn't do that whatever trump was doing compared to hillary clinton net drove people who should have been republican voters to the democratic party even though trump still won and republicans kind of have that same built in advantage this year right they are seeking a 2nd term the economy is doing well i'm so. i think we overplay the importance of this candidate versus that candidate come the general election and the democrats i think have the most uniting issue they've had which is very trump being the incumbent president and all of his baggage and scandals and the impeachment and corruption and immigration and detention centers there's tons to motivate and unite the democratic party and the things that net drove voters away from trouble last time the scandals and the terrible attitude about women and the corruption are still there and so i think the democrats. can make a strong play with any of these nominees and i think the again i said this earlier i think we overplay the divisions because that's what's in front of us tonight but the potential for the democratic party to come together and worked over to defeat president trump i think is probably the something we need to pay more attention to thinking about the general election all right joe thanks that we'll talk about minnesota a must use in a 2nd just in with you but let's close of about 2 richelle she's got some more results from this and i was hoping michel that joe mentum was a was a phrase that you made up our minds are not a game but as a writer that i wouldn't say joe biden's campaign in there is actually. they are feeling good and they're feeling good for a reason they continue to rack up wins there and the latest is arkansas buys president former vice president joe biden has declared to be the winner and projected to be the winner in arkansas there's 31 delegates up for grabs there he will get the largest portion of that so when you look at the map it is really starting to actually we'll get to the map later but the point is it's starting to really fill in a lot and most of what we have seen so far for the night is for joe biden he's at $257.00 bernie sanders at $152.00 mike bloomberg 17 and elizabeth warren is down there at well so a really strong night for joe biden still waiting for the big prizes which are texas and california when they close in. as numbers come in we'll bring them to you but the latest win is arkansas in joe biden's column all right derek great thanks for that i mean that puts into context sort of in stark context kind of where we are now before we go off air let's quickly talk about minnesota in massachusetts and again it goes back to that strategic voting i mean as as mentioned previously massachusetts is the state where warren is the senator she was polling a strong 2nd. bernie sanders was actually polling 1st and biden was a 3rd at 3rd in the polls but that has flipped. up a thorn is now coming in a distant 3rd and biden is winning that state that was not the projection ahead of of these this voting day that is showing even the massachusetts voters who have some of the most reasons to care about elizabeth warren that they are consolidating around what they perceive as the stronger person to take on trump in the general election in the fall. i think it also shows the right the role of the political party it's an organization for coordinating and so the office holders the other candidates having a. discussion some might publicly amongst themselves over the best path forward and then signaling to the party's voters about what the solution they've come up with and the solution to rally behind their reasonably popular reasonably well regarded a former vice president as the party's candidate as opposed to senator sanders who despite his virtues right has not been a member of the party by his own choice right for you know his whole political career is refused to associate that party and so the party is an organization choosing a candidate from among their own ranks in the in the party in the electorate following the leadership i think are the 2 important political science stories of us tonight i want to quickly from you what should have been. of course bernie sanders says differently he says he's always been caucusing with the democrats he is part of the democratic leadership he legislates with them in the senate and so on so forth so he does have a counter-argument and of course the biggest counter-argument of all is that mr trump who used to be democrats republican suddenly became a republican nominee and one day lashes of course we all know that it's also issues with the 2 party system in the united states and we also know that is a problem within each each of those parties and we've seen how trump basically devoured the republican party and why the democrats now are making sure preventing any outside that you know quote unquote like a bonus down to devour their own there's a big issue whether they're 78 year old potential nominee joe biden is the best possible candidate that could take on donald trump it is. mind boggling a country a young country like america industrious you know with incredible mobility incredible energy that they have 3 men and their seventy's what will continue after the break thank you
