Aged and Community Services Australia CEO Patricia Sparrow says new legislation around the nation’s aged care system is critical to improving it and getting away from the “ageist” attitude toward elderly Australians.
Council of the Ageing CEO Ian Yates told the Royal Commission into Aged Care many of the problems within the system stemmed from a sense of ageism.
Ms Sparrow told Sky News she agreed with Mr Yates’ comments, saying “I think we do live in a relatively ageist society, I think we’ve had a youth culture for a long time”.
