After a grand jury declined to bring charges against the Lafayette police officers who fatally shot a 31-year-old Black man last year, local activists are turning to what's next. Trayford Pellerin was shot and killed by officers who were responding to reports of a man with a knife on Aug. 21, 2020. A grand jury considered second-degree murder charges but on Tuesday declined to indict the officers involved. Now local activists, like Devon Norman president and director of the Village 337, are looking to turn their frustration and disappointment into action. The organization is asking residents to come to the May 18 meetings of the city and parish councils.
