Aboriginal community groups are devastated that the Northern Territory government has approved a Dan Murphy’s ‘megastore’ in Darwin. They said the process was “stacked against community” concerns about the health impacts of alcohol and it amounted to “corporate wilful blindness” by parent company Woolworths. But Woolworths – through a spokesman for its subsidiary Endeavour Group, which operates Dan Murphy’s – said the store would have the “most stringent set of alcohol control policies anywhere in the country”.
