There will be no in-person observation in First Baptist Church in Dover this year of Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. Day Monday. The annual event for Tuscarawas County has been called off because of concerns about the COVID-19 pandemic, according to church officials. However, there are online observances available from elsewhere in Ohio. On Monday, U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-OH) will deliver remarks at the King Legacy Celebration: Justice Moving Forward, the National Underground Railroad Freedom Center’s Martin Luther King Jr. Day celebration. The program begins at 9 a.m. Brown will honor Dr. King’s legacy, and highlight his continued efforts in the fight for racial justice, including the recent expansion of My Brother’s Keeper Ohio (MBK Ohio). My Brother’s Keeper was started by President Obama as a national initiative to address the opportunity gaps facing young men of color, and to ensure that all young people reach their full potential.
