Sean Lahman Rochester Democrat and Chronicle WEST WEBSTER -- Christmas Eve is often a time of cheerful energy for families as they make last-minute holiday preparations. But in one Webster neighborhood, it is a reminder of a much darker day. Eight years ago, a gunman set fire to his Webster home and waited for first responders as they arrived. Michael Chiapperini, 43, and Tomasz Kaczowka, 19, were killed that morning as they stepped out of their fire truck on Lake Road, an otherwise quiet neighborhood along the Lake Ontario shoreline. A memorial now stands near the spot where they died, just one of several visible reminders of that tragic morning. Empty lots mark the spots where seven homes were destroyed in the ensuing fire.
