A future with both hugs and masks select Catherine Kroll Catherine Kroll and Catholic health care Catherine Kroll was 15 when she began working in health care as a certified nursing assistant at the nursing home where her great-grandmother lived. Kroll, however, says it was Catholic health care that spoke to her. “The guidance of the Sisters of St. Joseph made me feel I was called to serve in Catholic health care,” she says. “Especially the mission around social justice — addressing the inequities and helping marginalized people know we’re showing up for them.” She still volunteers in the community, supporting seniors. That’s been true even during the COVID-19 pandemic as she worked more than 70-hour weeks at PeaceHealth. In recognition, the city of Vancouver, Washington, where PeaceHealth is headquartered, named her its 2020 Senior Hero health care professional.
