A changing relationship Last Updated December 21, 2020 The 2020 college football season has been defined by COVID-19. After a chaotic couple of months and a Pac-12 season that was studded with cancellations — Cal had four of its own — it is fair to say this year will not be remembered so much for its football but for the context in which it took place. What we should not forget, though, is how 2020 threw the relationship between American society and college football into sharp focus. Scrolling through Twitter following the cancellation of Cal’s final game of the season against Arizona was similar to witnessing a microcosm to the entire pandemic — some understood the precautions taken, but some were upset at the cancellation.
