97% of Michigan businesses applying for $15,000 COVID-19 grants will be turned away

Businesses waited in an online queue on Tuesday, Dec. 15 in hopes of getting a $15,000 COVID-19 grant from the state.

There was $15,000 on the line.
Mims is the general manager of Society Detroit, a bar and lounge in downtown Detroit. It’s one of the many businesses currently closed due to COVID-19 restrictions in Michigan. But a $15,000 grant from the Michigan Economic Development Corporation could help alleviate some of the damage.
Only about 666 businesses would get the state grants – and on a first-come, first-served basis on Tuesday, Dec. 15.
