NEW PHILADELPHIA City council is considering granting a 50% tax abatement for 10 years to a developer that hopes to build a hotel on W. High Avenue near I-77. Officials with SAI Hospitality of Monclova, Ohio, outlined plans for the proposed hotel at a meeting Monday of city council's finance committee. The 88-room TownePlace Suites by Marriott would be built at 1298 W. High Ave. between Hog Heaven and the Tuscarawas River. The four-story, 52,000-square-foot structure would have a pool and meeting room. Total cost of the project would be $8.7 million. The hotel would create 14 full- and part-time jobs with a payroll of around $320,000 per year.
