5 men sentenced in robberies of 3 Jackson businesses Share Updated: 11:58 AM CDT Apr 6, 2021 wapt Share Updated: 11:58 AM CDT Apr 6, 2021 Five men have been sentenced to federal prison for their participation in the robberies of three Jackson businesses.Joshua Cowards, Christopher Delaney, Cortez Kyles, Tyreik Lackey and Marquarius Rogers were indicted by a federal grand jury on Nov. 27, 2018. The businesses robbed by the men were Community Choice Financial, Speedee Cash, and Dollar General. Four pleaded guilty to their roles in one of the robberies and one was found guilty by a jury, federal prosecutors said.The armed robberies, which prosecutors said were coordinated by Delaney, occurred in August and September 2018. Delaney provided transportation to each robbery and served as a lookout while monitoring police radio traffic during the robberies.While Delaney served as the lookout, others went inside of the businesses. Those who went inside of the businesses were armed and held employees at gunpoint. During one of the robberies, an employee was injured when dragged across the floor. In another robbery, one of the men pointed a handgun at a Jackson police officer, prosecutors said.Kyles, 25, pleaded guilty and was sentenced April 2 to serve 14 years in federal prison. Lackey, 24, pleaded guilty March 12 and was sentenced to 10 years in prison. Rogers, 20, also pleaded guilty March 12 and was sentenced to 17 years in federal prison. A jury found Cowards, 29, guilty for his role in one of the armed robberies. He was sentenced May 11, 2020, to serve 15 years in federal prison. All five men will serve five years of supervised release and have been ordered to pay restitution totaling more than $85,000.
