New Jerseyan contingent on U.S. Olympic fencing team There won’t be anyone from New Jersey — or anywhere else for that matter — sitting in the stands at the Tokyo Olympics, which begin on July 23. But the coronavirus lockdown isn’t keeping Garden State athletes out of the competition. A total of 24 Olympians hail from here. Among them are world-class competitors in men’s basketball, women’s soccer, track and field, equestrian, baseball, women’s rowing, judo, swimming and other sports. The U.S. Olympic fencing team has a sizable New Jersey component, who make up 20% of the team. They are Dagmara Wozniak (Avanel), Jackie Dubrovich (Riverdale), Khalil and Kamali Thompson (Teaneck), Alen Hadzic (Montclair) and Francesca Russo (Wayne).
