It was a long night for 150 residents of a West Kelowna building. Just before 4 a.m. Sunday morning, West Kelowna Fire Rescue was called to a large apartment building on Elliott Road in West Kelowna to investigate an odour in the building. "Crews arrived and evacuated residents and set out to determine the cause. The regional HazMat team from Kelowna Fire was requested to assist," West Kelowna fire chief Jason Brolund said. "At this time, the issue has not been pinpointed and remains under investigation with support from the HazMat Team." One hundred and fifty residents and their pets were evacuated from the building and the Regional Emergency Support Services Team was activated. A reception/warming centre is being set up at Royal LePage Place arena for the residents. Busses were set to transport those who needed it, there.
