$100,000 United Way donation helps Sioux Falls School District families get through 2020 Shelly Conlon, Sioux Falls Argus Leader Sioux Falls School District officials are giving thanks this January after a local nonprofit helped more than 800 of the district's families make it through 2020. When COVID-19 hit South Dakota, the Sioux Empire United Way asked to help those struggling to get by. Thanks to coordination efforts between the nonprofit, and district counselors and social workers, $100,000 worth of Hy-Vee gift cards were distributed to more than 850 families across Sioux Falls schools, the district announced during a school board meeting Monday night. The last $100 gift card was delivered during early December.
