Spur the Cancer out of Montana is a non-profit organization founded in 2010, by Leon Wieder.
It was created in order to raise funds to give directly to patients, and families who are in need.
We help pay for additional medical expenses not covered by insurance, loss of wages because of time missed at work while receiving treatments away from home, and travel expenses to get to and from treatments..

Spur the Cancer was started in Memory of Leon’s aunt who lost her battle with cancer in 2010.
Leon held several fund raisers throughout the winter.
In May of 2011 he began a journey at the North Dakota border.
A horseback ride across Montana made it possible for him to collect donations from every town along the way.
He arrived in Arlee, MT.
on July 4th 2011, exactly one year from when his aunt had passed away..

Leon presented checks to Tough Enough to Wear Pink of Montana, The Leukemia Compassion Foundation at St.Patrick Hospital, The Head Heal and Hope Foundation, and a family who was about to lose their house because of their medical expenses from cancer.
He was also awarded the Governor’s Service Award for 2011..

Adding a few more people to help run his organization including his cousin Jamie Lynn who lost her step dad to cancer in November of 2011, and good friend Melina Whited who is an amazing event planner and just all around good ol' country girl who wants to help with the cause..

Leon has not only rode across the state again, but we have and continue to hold several raffles, and we held a Memorial Celebration on May 26th, which included a 4D barrel race, and a rough stock rodeo.

This year we were able to help out a little boy and his family with some travel and other additional expenses.
Not only is it rewarding to be able to financially help but we also get the privilege of meeting some spectacular people..
Many more events are in the planning process, and we hope to have a little cowboy fun while raising money for a good cause..
