Emperor Feroz Shah constructed a lot of historic monuments along the northern and eastern side of the water tank.
Three of the most important structures are a Madrasa (Islamic school), a tiny mosque and his tomb accompanied by 6 pavilions with majestic domes.
All of these were built in two years (1352 to 1354AD)..

Madrasa.

This madras was constructed during 1352 and remained one of the most respected schools in the Sultanate of Delhi.
The infrastructure and the size of this seminary make it the best and the biggest Islamic schools in the world today.
During Feroze Shah’s rule, there were three significant madrasas – with one of them being the madrasa built by the ruler himself.
Islamic education became highly respected in Delhi after Bagdad was sacked from its position.
City of Joy or Tarababad was the name given to the areas located around the seminary.

The madrasa is known for its unique and creative design.
This is located towards the south and eastern parts of the reservoir and is an L-shaped structure.
One part of this L shape that runs in the North-South direction is 76m long and the other arm running in the East-West direction is 138m long.
The huge tomb of the ruler is where these two arms are pivoted.
One can find a tiny mosque towards the northern corner of the reservoir.
A few tow-storied pavilions are found between the mosque and the tomb.
Gateways in the shape of domes are found in the intersection point of these arms.
The 76m long arm runs up to 2 floors and has three different towers.
The balconies on the upper floor are nicely decorated with brackets, whereas the lower floor has corbelled support.
Eaves are found only on the upper floor now.
A flight of stairs from each floor leads into the lake.
All along the path, many square and octagon shaped cenotaphs are found.
These are believed to be tombs of the teachers who taught at the madrasa..

Pavilions.

Towards the northern side of the reservoir is the madrasa and towards the southern side is a beautiful garden.
The eastern gate that crosses the village complex opens into this garden.
There are six majestic pavilions in this garden.
These pavilions are basically domes that are designed in different shapes like octagon, hexagon, rectangle etc.
The inscriptions that are found in this area lead us to believe that these pavilions are actually graves.
There are three domes in the shape of a hemisphere – with the largest one of them having a diameter of 5.5m and the smallest of them having a diameter of 4.5m.
These three have an innovative architectural pattern, where on the drums one can find foliated motifs and on the top layer of the domes, one can find Kalasa motifs..

The pavilions stand on an elevated platform of 0.8m.
Columns in the shape of squares support these pavilions and these have highly decorative capitals.
Towards the western side of these three pavilions, one can find the architectural remnants of a courtyard.
Double columns were used to construct this courtyard.
This area and the three pavilions were part of the madrasa during the time of its construction.
Just opposite to the tomb of Feroze Shah, one can spot the beautiful garden.
A chattri made of eight pillars is found inside the garden.
These have cantilevered beams that offer ample support to the eaves found inside the small dome..

Mosques.

Towards the northern side of the Madrasa, one can spot a mosque.
This is small in size.
One can find a projection of up to 9.5m of the qibla of the mosque, into the reservoir.
There are three rooms found inside this mosque.
A gateway that is covered by a magnificent dome towards the south east of the reservoir that opens into these three rooms.
It is still not found out as to what these rooms were used as in the earlier days.
The prayer hall that opens to the sky is in the shape of the letter C.
It is made up of dual row of pillars and is constructed on an elevated plinth like structure.
From one side of the reservoir, one can clearly notice the walls of the mosque’s qibla.
These walls have five mihrabs.
The central mihrab is constructed in the pattern of avant-garde.
The sides of this mihrab are open but its huge chattri is in the shape of a dome.
When it projects into the reservoir, this mihrab gives the look of a pavilion.
All the remaining four mihrabs are found on the sides of the central mihrab.
The windows of these are grilled and they too have intricate architectural styles on them just like the central mihrab
