Detailed description is Friends of Mountain Rescue (FMR) leads fundraising efforts to build an endowment to sustain the Vail Mountain Rescue Group (VMRG).
Vail Mountain Rescue Group (VMRG) began 35 years ago—just a few good friends, mountaineers all, would go into the back country to help when someone was in trouble.
But as the Vail Valley grew, so did the need for search and rescue.
Those few good friends have become ~35 active team members who perform as many as 100 annual missions across all seasons.
Each provides his or her own personal equipment, and together, the team has a broad array of backcountry skills.

The men and women of VMRG are your neighbors.
They are artists, business people, shop keepers, back country guides, EMTs, ski patrollers and retirees.
They are unpaid and on call 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
They are responsible for backcountry search and rescue missions in Eagle County, and, they provide each of us a safety net in the event we become lost, injured or need aid..

Team members devote 8,000 hours a year to training and missions, which occur in backcountry areas with diverse terrain and involve people enjoying many outdoor activities:.

Two Eagle County entities provide essential logistical support for VMRG--the Eagle County Sherriff’s Office which also authorizes the team’s work, and the Eagle County Paramedic Services.
In addition, the Colorado Army National Guard’s High Altitude Aviation Training Site (HAATS) provides helicopter support for ~20% of missions.
Helicopters reduce delays in reaching victims and extracting injured people from areas that are difficult and time-consuming to reach by foot.
